There’s a new monster in town. I’m so grateful Jellyfish Beach has preserved its small-town charm, despite the new residents who constantly arrive here. Especially when many of them aren’t human. Case in a species of ogre from Venezuela and Colombia called the munuane. Known as the “Grandfathers of Fishes,” legend has it that these ogres don’t take kindly to humans who over-fish or otherwise abuse the environment. So, when fishermen and hunters start turning up dead around town, my handlers from the Friends of Cryptids Society suspect a munuane is to blame. Who is assigned to investigate? Yep, yours truly. With help from Matt, naturally, along with all the magic I can muster. The police don’t suspect a hairy ogre from South America. And their “usual suspects” are surely innocent in my eyes. But, like most of my life, the investigation gets weird. And dangerous. Then, wouldn’t you know it, my black-magic sorceress mother has to turn up and make my life even more complicated. Will evil prevail? Ogre my dead body! Dive into a wacky world of murder, magic, and mayhem with the “Monsters of Jellyfish Beach.”
Ward is a Florida native and author of the the Memory Guild midlife paranormal mystery thrillers, the Monsters of Jellyfish Beach paranormal mysteries, and the Freaky Florida humorous paranormal series, all of which are chock full of psychics, witches, vampires, werewolves, dragons, and other bizarre, mythical creatures, such as #FloridaMan. He also pens the Zeke Adams series of noir mysteries. He lives in Florida (of course) with his wife, cats, and a demon who prefers to remain anonymous.
Missy against a Munuane aka an Ogre? This was another great story of Missy, but this time, as she is working in her store, occasionally helping a non-human with health issues. There is someone killing fisherman! As Missy and Matt start tracking down what is going on, it becomes apparant that the ones being killed are taking over the limit! Kind of taking 'policing of fishing' to a whole new level! So, they have to track down who could be hiding and where. And it is really kind of unnerving when their eyes are in their knees... Yep, in their knees. This was yet another fantastic story of Missy and the messes she ends up being in! Being book 3 in the series, it could be read as a stand alone, but it is much better when read in order. Thank you, Ward Parker for yet another great story! I received a complimentary copy of this story, and this is my honest review.
Get Ogre Yourself is the latest story from Missy’s life in witchy, wacky Florida. She and long suffering boyfriend, Matt, get involved in adventures a bit more odd and more deadly than usual. Power, who has it and who doesn’t, (and even how they got it) is a much stronger theme this time around. The book is still full of the same great things that make Parker’s books fun. His humor, unique characters and intricate storylines fill this story with fun and giggles. He can also make me stop and think seriously and I love the combination as always. I just hate when I get close to the end- I don’t want it to end! As always, more than worth your time to read this!
Missy, with help from Tony and Matt is on another case for the Friends of Cryptids Society of the Americas. This time, a munuane, the "grandfather of fishes", is supposedly attacking fishermen who exceed the legal limits.
Also, various houses of worship are being targeted by black magic, with Missy's biological mother the prime suspect. Although there are other black magic users in Jellyfish Beach, so the culprit may or may not be her.
This time, the book was released before I was given a chance to get the Advance Reader Copy. I checked the book out anyway because I am enjoying this series.
Members of a local sports club are dying. A new cryptid is in town that protects sea life. There are also conservation groups whose members have had brushes with the law. Missy is trying to protect the cryptid but must find out if its responsible for the murders. Meanwhile her friend is kidnapped by it, she and Matt are chased by a killer blob. They have offended the new chief of police as well as the boating captains that may work for the local drug lord. A drug lord who collects and plays a mean kazoo. The only thing left is for Missy's black magic welding Mother to pop up. OOPS!
Although the werewolves and vampires of Jellyfish Beach, Florida, are a lot less prominent than in the first 2 books of the series, Missy and her friend Matt are back trying to solve a series of murders that might have been perpetrated by a South American ogre, called a munuane. While working to improve her skills as a witch, it is Missy's job to catalog and study the munuane and to determine if the Friends of Cryptids Society needs to remove them from the area. Ward Parker has given us another twisty, turny fantasy mystery with lots of suspects while always remembering to keep a level of humor in the story.
The storyline in the book was very interesting. It was a combination of fantasy, mystery and crime solving action. I love the characters, the main character Missy and her reporter semi boyfriend, along with Missy’s cats and familiar iguana and ancient ghost helper. I also enjoy her business partner and their magic supplies store along with the vampires and ware wolves that she helps out.
I was reading 3 other books at the same time and I constantly kept going back to this book because it was so interesting and enjoyable
This is excellent! A beautifully crafted fantasy, mystery story! Brilliant selection of characters, well thought out & written storyline, that had me chuckling if not smiling through the entire adventure! The third part to this incredibly enjoyable series, you never know where these mysteries will take you but it is always a good fun read! I do recommend this & all I have read by this author! You will not be disappointed!
Another adventure for Missy. This time she’s asked to look into ogres (aka munuane) killing humans who are allegedly overfishing or in other ways hurting marine animals. She soon learns that all that she has assumed about ogres is completely wrong. Soon she and Matt (her devoted friend) are being rescued by a father ogre. She also meets a drug kingpin who has a passion for the munuanes and kazoos.
Missy is having a rough time lately. More monsters are appearing in her life and she already had too many to count. This series is very entertaining. You will love the characters and Jellyfish Beach. Join Missy and Matt as they try to solve the mysteries. Who are the new monsters that have moved to Florida and who is killing sportsmen? Try this series today.
What a great addition to this series. It totally changed my perception of what Ogres look like. LOL Matt helps Missy try to figure out who is killing people. Is Matt Missy's boyfriend? Or are they going to stay in the friend zone. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
I volunteered a honest review as I received an ARC copy of this book.
Missy is helping the Society look into the sightings of Ogres. She needs to get some proof. At the same time fishermen are winding up dead. Who is killing them? Is it the ogres or something else? Who is practicing black magic and why?
This book is definitely laugh out loud funny! My favorite scene was Missy trying to sleep under her cats. I have never heard munuanes but I found them intriguing! This is another rollicking fun mystery in a FANTASTIC series!
My type of book had vamps werewolves ogres witches etc. And a great mystery on who was doing the killings. The murder wasn't given away until toward the end so that was good as well. Definitely would read another book from this author
I really enjoyed the paranormal story with the paranormal characters, murders that were hard for me to guess who was the murder and humor to break up the suspense.
