Nov. 2019. I was watching a show the other night, it was about a brothel, it was thinking of adding sex dolls to the prostitutes. They thought the dolls might be popular - no headaches, no periods, always make the right noises, they needn't ask if it was good for them (who cares) and the can change it's head to have a blonde or brunette, as they desire. What more could a man want?
__________

The author must have hoped that readers had not heard of The Stepford Wives because this story was not a million, or even a dozen, miles from it. Whether this is a dystopian or utopian book would depend on your point of view. Or perhaps your gender.

Mark's wife Donna, has had an accident and is hospital in a deep coma. But when he gets home from the hospital, his wife is in the kitchen, warm, welcoming, cooking, just as a wife should be. The insurance company have provided a near-perfect replica. Actually, perhaps more perfect as she will never answer back, never ask him to help with the washing up and never have even have.stubble on her legs. What more could a man ask for?

Perhaps she was better even than a Stepford Wife who were still human and no doubt had periods? The author though was not a better writer than Ira Levin, but 3.5 stars rounded up.

Read in 2013, reviewed in 2019. Some books take a long time to think about (I just came across it actually after watching the tv show about the brothel and it reminded me of it).

From BBC Radio 4 - Dangereous Visions:
One of three plays nominated as Best Single Drama at the BBC Audio Drama Awards 2014.

Mark's wife Donna has an accident and ends up in a life-threatening coma. But when he comes home from hospital, Donna is in the kitchen. Not Donna, in fact, but a near-perfect replica provided by her insurance company.

Award-winning writer Ed Harris tells a wickedly twisted tale of love - and adjustments.

What if identical copy replicants actually could sub in to replace your sick love one?
I wonder if living with lifelike mannequins is something that will happen. Like Invasion, this is essentially like a black mirror episode.

Creative, inventive and terrifying, Billions is an interesting take on the concept of human cloning. Fantastic scifi story with some of the most naturalistic dialogue I've heard in a long time.
