Cowboys of Moss Creek #9

Cowboy of Convenience: Moss Creek PD

Rate this book
Grady’s spent his whole life in Moss Creek, Montana, helping out on his family’s ranch and keeping the town he loves safe. There’s nowhere else he’d rather be.
Except for Evelyn Warwick’s bed.
The newly arrived New Yorker is a breath of fresh air in his stagnant and stale life— one he seeks out at every opportunity.
Which is how he ends up claiming to be her fiancé, hoping to run her meddling twat of an ex out of town.
But it turns out a vindictive ex is the least of Evelyn’s problems, and when Grady offers his help she makes a proposition he can’t refuse.
Now he’s pretending to be her future husband indefinitely, complete with wedding plans, shared closet space, and nights in the same bed.
And it’s not long before there’s very little fake about their arrangement.

Cowboy of Convenience is a fake fiance, only one bed, opposites attract, small town romance. It's low angst, high heat, and guaranteed to leave you with a hankering for a man with a drawl...
And a set of handcuffs.

Janice Whiteaker has written a group of amazing stories with her recent additions to the Cowboys of Moss Creek series. Cowboy of Convenience is no exception, in fact it may be the best one yet. It’s sweet, spicy, and emotional!
Evelyn has been on my radar ever since she showed up on Muriel’s doorstep in No Coming Back. The sassy mouthed dynamo that came all the way from New York to support her best friend clearly had a story that needed to be told. And man is it a story!
Cowboy and a cop? Yes, please! Janice created the perfect man when she wrote Grady. The man brings home tacos and cake for dinner! He’s protective, acutely aware of his surroundings and seeks to defuse situations. Grady is proud of the skills he’s honed as a law enforcement officer, but the women around him, especially mature ones, are trying his patience! Why does the phrase “good girl” send a tingle up and down the spine when it comes out of his mouth? Yes, Grady is a dirty talker and Evelyn appreciated it.
It’s always a good sign when I laugh snort when I read a book. Where was Grady when my grandmother was alive? I would have loved to sit back and watch him deal with her. Evelyn’s Gram-Gram is a unique character. She developed throughout the storyline in a fun way. I will think of her when I drink mocha coffee. And keep an eye out for the trouble making old ladies that create chaos, just because they can!
Admittedly, I felt like crying a few times. My heart hurt for Gram-Gram and Evelyn, so much time was wasted because of expectations and misunderstandings. Grady has a tough family situation that was difficult to read but it’s a truth that many families are struggling with.
I didn’t rush through the story. I would read and reread scenes to truly appreciate and savor every bit of the words and feelings. Humor with a hint of snark is there, even in those sensual moments that kept me glued to the pages.
Everything I expect in a five star book is in Cowboy of Convenience! I will reread this book and enjoy it every time!

Books like this are exactly why Janice Whiteaker is one of my auto-buy authors. CoC was funny, sad, sweet, and sexy. It’s characters ran the gamut of emotions, and family was at the center of the story, in so many ways. I read it quickly, pouting when I had to set it aside to feed my children, and with I could start over again as if it was new. I will ALWAYS recommend this author to everyone I know, and this story is a prime example of her skills.

Cowboy of Convenience is an all the feels wonderful read.

Janice has covered all the emotions in this one, prepare for heartache and heartbreak, laughter and smoking hotness with this one.

If you’ve read the previous Moss Creek Cowboy series you’ll know Grady (not required, but enhances the reading experience) and he’s getting his story, it’s a HEA but it’s not all sunshine and roses to get there.

Evelyn only been in Moss Creek for a year but she’s settle well, making sure she’s keeping well any from any of the male attention. There is one however that she would love more attention from., but doesn’t seem to be noticed.

Circumstances throw Grady and Evelyn together when a previous suitor, yes suitor! turns up demanding she returns to New York to marry him, when Grady does the only thing a good cowboy would do….make for the fake relationship.

This story has its ups and downs, the ups had me belly laughing, the downs bought me to tears, then throw in a twist where you want to slap someone!

It’s a fantastic read, very touching at times

Loved seeing both Grady and Ev get their Happy Ever After, I didn’t want it to finish!

Gram gram is another level…..I’ll leave it at that. 😏

This is my new favorite story by Janice Whiteaker. Of course, I say that about every one of Janice's books (and it's true), but Cowboy of Convenience touched a very special place in me.

We find out that a character is dealing with a sick family member. I related to the emotions and heartache that Grady experienced. (I miss you, Mom 💔) As always, JW takes on a serious topic with empathy, sympathy, and a bit of levity to help lighten the mood. This is not a downer of a book, though. In fact, this story lifted me. It may have taken me back to a time in my life that reminded me sometimes life sucks! But my Mom was my biggest fan and supported me always!! 💕 Thank you, Janice 💜.

Grady and Evelyn are each dealing with their own personal family baggage. Along the way, they discover that sometimes perception & reality can be distorted and you NEVER have to go through the journey alone. They make each other whole. The chemistry between Grady and Evelyn is combustible. Their witty banter is a pefect balance to the more serious part of the story. The fake fiance/1-bed tropes are hilarious. 😂 If you've been following along, you know the geriatric girl-gang will be getting into all kinds of trouble. And - they aren't shy about recruiting new members to participate in their high jinks! PSA - keep the tequila out of reach 😆

I have a little confession to make. Officer Grady Haynes has been on my book boyfriend radar since the first Moss Creek book (Cowboy Seeking Nanny). I've been waiting for his story for 10 freaking books. I was SO NOT disappointed. I could go on and on and on and...... I definitely recommend this book and give it 5 🌟 to infinity!!!

This book can be read as a stand-alone, but if you find that you like Moss Creek; you can go back and visit all the other cowboys and the strong ladies that complete them. 💙 💙💙💙💙

As seen on my blog (Jessie's Reading Corner):
DISCLAIMER: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I absolutely adored this book, and completely devoured it in two days! Grady and Evelyn…I couldn’t get enough of them! I loved how they acted when they were together! Grady is such a goofball, I absolutely loved how he helped lighten Evelyn’s load through his humor. Evelyn, I loved how she was there for Grady when he needed her. Her upbringing didn’t give her many tools to work with, but caring for Grady came as naturally to her as breathing. I really loved when she would just stop whatever she was doing and hug him.

Grady isn’t the only one Evelyn cared for in this story. She also cared for the geriatric girl gang who are more often than not, up to no good lol. I love the breath of fresh air and the snorts of laughter these characters bring to Moss Creek! I also really loved Evelyn (and Grady’s) relationship with Evelyn’s grandmother. I loved what Janice did with her character!

This is the first book in a brand new subseries that Janice has written in the Moss Creek world about the fine men of the Moss Creek Police Department. If you have not read any of the previous books in the Moss Creek world, you can rest assured that you don’t have to read any of them to understand this one. I do recommend that you do read them though as they are fantastic! You’ll also get to see some repeating characters (such as the geriatric girl gang) sprinkled throughout those books.

Thank you Janice and Julie for the advance copy!

Grady and Evelyn have been dancing around each other for a while but neither knows how the other feels and is afraid to risk saying something. But when someone from her past shows up wanting her she says she’s engaged and Grady is there and only too happy to be the fake fiancé. But when Gram Gram shows up from New York they are now sharing a bed. Things get hot quick like and Grady’s life becomes more complicated with his family. I loved how these two fit together so well. He’s protective and bossy and she is giving and never had anyone to protect her. Of course we get the Girl Gang and their kind of crazy, Evelyn’s Gram Gram (as Grady calls her) is uppity and couldn’t do anything for herself, and the butler came (in more than one way), Grady’s mother’s dementia, yoga, secrets revealed and two people falling in love.

I've been waiting for Grady to get his book ever since he was introduced in the earlier books set in Moss Creek. To say it did not disappoint would be a vast understatement!

Grady's struggles will give you all the feels. And Evelyn's slow discovery of who she is and who she wants to be put a smile on my face. Her relationship with her grandmother, initially the reason Grady and Evelyn enter into the fake engagement evolves in a very satisfying way. And Grady, just being the sweet and thoughtful man he is, made my heart squeeze. Such a cinnamon roll!

A thoroughly enjoyable read! Janice you've done it again!!

Janice Whiteaker is a new author to me and when I read the blurb, I was intrigued. I didn’t know what to expect, but I am so glad that I took a chance on this author because I really enjoyed reading this! It made me all up in my feels… This book had it all… heartbreak, passion, heartache, swoon-worthy moments, laughter, heat and ALL THE FEELS!!

I loved Grady and Evelyn so much! They were nothing alike, so opposite yet they worked so well together. Evelyn was sassy, funny as hell and such a fun character! I loved how the author wrote her. She really stood out to me and Grady. A sexy cowboy and a cop? Ummm… Yes, please! He was such a dork and I couldn’t help but laugh at the way he acted sometimes! He had a way of making Evelyn lighten up, which I feel she needed. He may have a fun side but he also had a protective side, which comes with his job.

Even though this book was full of laughter and fun, it was also emotional and hard my heart breaking throughout the book, I found myself tearing up in parts of the book because I could relate to a lot of it.

This book took me on a roller coaster of a ride. It had ups and downs. Headache and laughter. It was full of intense chemistry and fun banter. I couldn’t help but fall in love with this amazing story and these amazing characters. This book was so well written and so easy to get lost in the pages. I loved seeing Grady and Evelyn get their HEA. I didn’t want the story to end!

5 STARS!

What a fantastic read. Janice writes such soulful books. She is a master at making her characters interesting and relatable. These two mc had chemistry from the start. I know we always love the main characters but Janice made the reader fall for gram gram. I truly think she played a bigger role than the two mc did. When we thought we wanted to despise gram gram it was not true. She made her very redeeming and as the reader we understood her better. And by understanding gram gram we understood her granddaughter. This book touched on very sensitive subjects like dementia and the loss of a parent. I enjoyed this book and I loved the brief passages of humor. Hope you enjoy this beautiful story.

I loved Grady and Evelyn’s story! Lots of emotion, the small town, the sass, and our favorite granny girl gang. I could move to Moss Creek if it were an option.

I read this book way too fast and was sad when it ended; the story hooked me in. With all the ups and downs, the story is of family. We have met both Grady and Evelyn in past books, and both have more than one suitcase full of baggage, but as we learn of their stories, we can relate to their pain. As Grady comes to Evelyn’s aid with a story, will it stay a story or become real?

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

nice and easy

Cowboy of convenience is an easy, nice read.
Evelyn and Grady have always admired each other from a distance, but never acted on the attraction they felt.
When Grady gets the opportunity to be her knight in fake engagement, he takes it in a heartbeat.
I liked the story and the characters with their different background stories and I enjoyed getting to know more about these two.
Their romance is a very nice romance and it progresses really smoothly. There is no doubts, no miscommunication and no third act break-up.
I can understand why a lot of readers would love this, but for me it was not enough. I enjoyed reading it, so a solid three stars

Super cute story and a lot of angst love the fake engagement and then how they started to develop feelings for each other and did not expected but loved how they fought to be with each other. Could have used a little more spice but either way it was a great read

So Much of Everything I Love in a Story!

Swoony police officer who’s also a bonafide cowboy? Check. Feisty, independent, yet vulnerable heroine who’s harboring a secret she fears makes her non-relationship material? Check. Hilarious octogenarians who will keep you in stitches but have the best hearts ever? Check. And a twist (or three) you’ll never see coming? Checkmate! Must be a Janice Whiteaker novel.

Cowboy of Convenience begins a new spinoff series from Janice Whiteaker’s Cowboys of Moss Creek novels and combines the humor, heat, and heart readers have come to expect from those swoony Montana residents and their perfect and perfectly flawed HEAs. Pairing easygoing Office Grady with spirited and bold Evelyn in a fake relationship narrative creates an amazing and ideal foundation for them to each finally embrace their ultimate HEA. Surrounded by circumstances they’re forced to acknowledge, they find their strength with each other, learning to rely on their individual resilience and accept how much of a united force they are together.

Grady and Evelyn are surrounded by an incredible cast of characters, both new and established. Of course, the Geriatric GirlGang is back, and up to their usual mix of hijinks and endearing wisdom. And a host of new characters advance and enhance the story as well, weaving in elements of depth and emotional acceptance along with several a-ha moments for more than just the main characters.

Of course it wouldn’t be a Janice Whiteaker novel without some level of suspense, and that final twist is a doozy! Just desserts are well-awarded. And rewarded. The depths of connection created in the most unlikely of places will warm your heart and create some strong new notions of people’s motives and intentions. Grab the tissues, too. Because you’ll need them to wipe the tears of joy, sorrow, and laughter throughout. And a cold glass of water. Because Grady is a seriously swoony, seggsy, dirty-talker. And Evelyn is one lucky woman.

Cowboy of Convenience starts off Whiteaker’s new series, Moss Creek—PD and can be read as a standalone novel. Of course, if you want the full vibe of the Moss Creek community, I definitely recommend binging the frack out of the Cowboys of Moss Creek series. The humor, heart, heat, and HEAs are epic, and definitely a fantastic place to get lost in more seriously swoony stories.

Spice- 🌶 🌶

Series- Moss Creek PD book 1

Troupes- opposites attract, forced proximity, only one bed, alpha protective hero, city girl, Small town

Representation-

CW- parent with violent episodic dementia, death of a parent

Ok I was not prepared to like Evelyn’s book so much! And Damn Grady for not only being a hot cowboy but a hot cop too? Needless to say I enjoyed this book.

Evelyn is a runaway pampered city girl who didn’t know one end of a horse from the other when she first got to moss creek, but now she’s got a yoga studio and a home and knows how to make her own coffee and she’s happy. So when an ex she only shared 3 dates with shows up and tries to take her back to the city it seem all to reasonable to claim the sex cowboy cop she’s been pinning after is her fiancé. But when her even more pampered grandmother then shows up and moves in with them things start to get a little out of hand.

Grady jumps at the chance to have the distraction of playing Evelyn’s fiancé his life is stressful and honestly he’s depressed and he’s been crushing on her since she got to town. Have the opportunity to get close to her is a dream come true. Her Gram Gram moving into the house with them is an interesting twist but he’s game to play.

These two have a tentative chemistry about them that was so intriguing pinning after each other while pretending to already have each other was a sweet kind of torture that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I also really loved Gram Gram, she starts out as the harbinger of death to Evelyn’s happiness and ends up as a part of the group of octogenarian ladies who play the comedic role.

I cried and laughed and a got a little horny with this one folks and if that’s not the sign of a good cozy cowboy book I don’t know what is.

Thank you Janice Whiteaker for the Advanced copy, all opinions are my own.

Written in third person from an alternating dual POV, book one of a new series set in Moss Creek can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA.
Evelyn has made a fresh start in Montana making life choices completely opposite of those she has made in her previous life. Grady is a protective cinnamon roll of a hero who I fell for almost as fast as Evelyn did. I admired Evelyn’s resilience and her bravery as she took steps to create the life she wanted. Grady: he is a perfect book boyfriend. His good heart and his protective nature make it easy to swoon. There is so much in this book. There is witty banter, practical jokes, deep emotional moments, romance, and heat. There were moments when I snorted as I laughed out loud. While Grady and Evelyn deal with the arrival of her grandmother with as much humor as they can, they are also coming to terms with the realities that life has thrown at them. Evelyn has a lot of baggage to move past with her familial relationships. Grady has things happening in his personal life that are breaking his heart and exhausting him physically. When they commit to their fake relationship though, they are a team working together. The friendship they form, and the respect they grant each other along the way, is a beautiful and mature thing.
Though the story is a little bit of a slow burn, the heat when they get there is worth the wait. The support they offer each other and the love that easily comes to them was beautiful to read. The author handles some difficult topics along the way, but does so with a gentle hand. Having been in Grady’s shoes, I appreciated the delicate touch with his mom. This was a beautifully written and romantic story with likeable characters and depth to the plot that I didn’t expect, yet fully enjoyed.
I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.

Who can resist the allure of a "feel good" narrative? Certainly not me, especially when it comes from the talented Janice Whitaker, as demonstrated in her latest creation, Cowboy of Convenience. I'll openly admit, I have a weakness for Whitaker's storytelling, and this one surpasses all expectations.

The plot is nothing short of marvelous – picture a rollercoaster of emotions, with Grady pretending to be Evelyn's fiancé just to escort her ex out the door. It's a wild ride, and that's just the beginning. Evelyn grapples with her own challenges, and Grady, the cowboy with a heart of gold, steps up to the plate. The supporting characters? They're a riot. Witty, eccentric, and the perfect spice to keep the story moving. I found myself laughing at their antics and wholeheartedly cheering for Grady and Evelyn through every twist and turn.

Whitaker's writing style is simply outstanding – like savoring a warm cup of cocoa on a chilly night. Smooth, comforting, and absolutely delightful. She masterfully spins a tale that grabs you from the very start, keeping me hooked from the first page to the last. And can we discuss the passion in this book? It's steamy. The chemistry between Grady and Evelyn is off the charts, and I couldn't help but fan myself more than once. So, if you're in the market for a low-stress, high-temperature, small-town romance with a dash of humor, "Cowboy of Convenience" is your golden opportunity. Brace yourself for a narrative that's as enchanting as it is heartwarming.

I want a girl gang just like Evelyn has…
It’s a beautifully written story that pulls you in from the get-go – full of love, laughter, and plenty of shenanigans.
These women know how to live life, bust chops but always support each other with love and kindness.
We are introduced to Gram Gram, who grates on everyone’s nerves but as the story progresses, we get a glimpse of whom she really is and what she wanted to be for herself and for Evely. She becomes a big part of the girl gang unit and they welcome her with open arms!
Gradys and Evelyn’s relationship has been simmering for a while but is pushed to the forefront when an unwelcome ex comes back into town. It’s a couple finding their truth worth and not giving up in whom they want to be even though the towns people see them differently. it takes them a while to sort themselves out whilst in a relationship that started off on an interesting note…
Grady relationship with his mum is such a powerful piece of the story and with all she goes through …its heartfelt but also heart shattering and is written with such truth and understanding -such a credit to Janice to be able to bring all the emotions across the written page and to honor those who suffer this disease.
It ends with a twist that you won’t see coming and in the end all comes full circle where it should be!
Thanks, Janice, for the opportunity to read this charmingly written story!

I absolutely loved this book! Evelyn & Grady should be relationship goals for a lot of people...lol
The way Grady stepped up to help Evelyn when Sasha decided to come back into Evelyn's life without so much as an explanation at first is perfect. And when Sasha decided to call in the big guns, Evelyn's grandmother, I did not expect Grady to not only step up but also stand up to her grandmother, or as Grady so eloquently put it "Gram-Gram". Grady absolutely went toe to toe with Gram-Gram and it was so much fun reading about these 2 trying to outdo each other. Eventually we get to see that the relationship between Evelyn and her grandmother is not because of their making, and they have wasted a lot of time not actually talking to each other. The most heartbreaking part for me was Grady having to deal with his own personal issues...his mom's illness. I tried putting myself in a situation where someone who has known me my whole life, doesn't remember me and treats me like a stranger. It just broke my heart. On to a slightly lighter note, Moss Creek's geriatric girl gang! I have a feeling that Gram-Gram will fit right in with them, especially after the scene where Evelyn and Grady caught her in a compromising act with her "assistant" Bernard. I only wished there was more of an interaction between Gram-Gram and the girl gang. But other than that, another great book!

Wow! I'm not sure where to start!

I LOVED this new series! It has an amazing mix of sweet, sexy, crazy, funny and wild, but it also manages to tackle deep and heartbreaking situations with care and respect. Grady is one in a million, he is a protector, a carer, a man of the law and has seemingly endless patience. So he doesn't hesitate to have Evelyn's back and run with her crazy story when others would have run for the hills, although I think the only people they are fooling are themselves! What begins as a charade actually gives the two of them the push they need to explore a relationship, they may lack experience in relationships but they are exactly what the other needs to survive the wild ride that is their life as it spins out of control. Grady gives Ev the confidence to grab for the future she wants and in turn Ev gives Grady the support and love he needs as his life crumbles beneath his feet. Gram Gram is a surprise in the best way...and the most haunting of ways too, but she brings humour and relief even as she makes you cringe in horror and gape in shock. Life has some big changes for Grady and Ev, but it also has some of the best surprises too.
I read this book on Kindle Unlimited and look forward to book two.

Fake engagement turned real love

Since his Dad passed away Grady struggled with being a police officer, managing his family’s ranch and taking care of his Mom who suffered from dementia. Evelyn is Amelie’s best friend who moved from NY to escape her family especially her Grandmother trying to marry her off to continue the family reputation and wealth. Grady has been attracted to her since day one but Evelyn was very stand-off. When the man Evelyn’s Grandmother wants her to marry shows up Grady steps in and tells him they’re engaged. Evelyn never had a real relationship just sex to try to ruin her reputation so her Grandmother would give up. Grady doesn’t have the time for a relationship and it has been hard for someone else to deal with his life.

Grandma shows up in town too so they are forced to continue their relationship both falling for each other as they learn more about each other.

Many obstacles are thrown at them but this couple doubles down and supports each other through it all. I loved the no 3rd act breakup! Things are not as they seem and they survive the good and bad life throws at them.

Loved this story a lot. Grady was a great book boyfriend and Evelyn was a strong character coming from a rough childhood. Excellent read,

Evelyn move to Moss Creek, Montana, because she was sick and tired of her super rich, oppressing family, specially her grandmother. Her family wanted her to marry a duch called Sasha, because marriage is a business. And Evelyn will have non of it! So she ran.
She’s been in Moss Creek for a year, opened a yoga studio, and is living her life. When surprise, surprise, Sasha comes for a visit. But officer Grady was there to protect her, as her fiancée ☺️.

This entire book happens in the space of a week. So it has a lot of insta love vibes. They mention they’ve been attracted to each other for a long time, but the insta love is there…
I love how bossy Grady is, how he just takes over and protects Evelyn. There’s just something about a protective man that I absolutely love. And when Grady’s plate become full, Evelyn was there to protect him. Her grandmother too 🤫. Who would have guessed an urn would be such a great weapon? Not me…. 🤷‍♀️
Anyway, this was a great story. If you are looking for a small town, fake dating romance this is pretty cute one. The ending, or rather the plot twist was stupid, and a little out of nowhere, but I still really enjoy this book.

Happy Readings 🤍

Janice Whiteaker's "Cowboy of Convenience (Moss Creek-PD Book 1)" is a sizzling and heart-warming small-town romance that will rope you in from the very first page. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Moss Creek, Montana, the story introduces us to Grady, a dedicated cowboy who finds his world turned upside down by the arrival of Evelyn Warwick.

Whiteaker expertly weaves a tale that is equal parts sweet and steamy. Grady's charm, rooted in his loyalty to family and town, is magnetic, and Evelyn's character brings a breath of fresh air and a dash of city sophistication to the small-town atmosphere. The dynamic between them, from Grady claiming to be Evelyn's fake fiancé to the inevitable development of genuine feelings, is both entertaining and heart-warming.

The fake fiancé trope is skillfully handled, and the chemistry between Grady and Evelyn is electric. As the story unfolds, readers are treated to a rollercoaster of emotions, from the humorous situations arising from their faux engagement to the deeper, more tender moments that reveal the authenticity behind the facade.

"Cowboy of Convenience" is a perfect blend of low angst and high heat, with the promise of a small-town romance that will leave you yearning for more. Whiteaker's writing style is engaging, and the pacing of the narrative keeps the reader hooked until the very end. If you're in the mood for a captivating love story set in the charming backdrop of Moss Creek, with a cowboy who'll steal your heart, this book is a must-read. It's not just a romance; it's an irresistible journey into the warmth of unexpected love, complete with a hint of spice and a touch of humour that will leave you with a smile.

In this edition of Ms. Whiteaker’s Cowboys of Moss Creek world, Cowboy of Convenience does not disappoint! Evelyn is a feisty heroine who doesn’t want to just be on her own, she wants to do it her way and not what she “thinks” her grandmother wants. Grady, *swoon*….hot, protector of Moss Creek. Everyone wants a Grady in their lives.

Through all kinds of miscommunication on Evelyn’s part, she thinks her Grandmother wants her to marry someone with social status but Evelyn wants nothing to do with that so she runs away from the big city and ends up in Moss Creek. Grady has to fend off all kinds of women who throw themselves at him but when he meets Evelyn, she is the one he wants to protect and protect he does.

I have loved every book this author writes and this one is no exception! I will always recommend her to anyone to read. It is sweet, sassy, hot, emotional…you name it, it has all the feels! Read it….now!

“If she was ever going to fall in love with a man, showing up with tacos and cake might be what made it happen.”

Evelyn moved to Moss Creek to get away from her life in New York, but it seems New York doesn’t want to get away from her.
When a man from her past unexpectedly shows up in Moss Creek, Grady didn’t think twice about stepping in. And now they’re sleeping in one bed and getting ready to get married!

Evelyn’s never really had a relationship before but Grady is making it look easy. A good man with a big heart and a dirty talker, what else can she ask for? Is it possible that what they have was never really fake at all?

Evelyn’s a city girl looking for a new life and Grady is a small town cop slash cowboy balancing a whole bunch of responsibilities and together they make the perfect pair:

A small town, fake dating romance that will have you laughing, crying and falling in love.

Do read the TW in the beginning.

Officer Grady Haynes had his eyes on transplanted NY socialite, Evelyn Warwick for the entire year she’d been in Moss Creek, she just didn’t seem to be interested. Anyway, he didn’t have time for a relationship when he was already a full-time police, a rancher, a homeowner with a mother slowly disappearing from vascular dementia. Evelyn had run away from her NY life, determined she wouldn’t let her NY status force her into an arranged loveless marriage or life.

When a piece of that life in the form of a highlighted, eyeliner wearing wanna be travels across county to claim her as his fiancé corners her in an ally, Grady just happens to be on patrol and oh so ready to pretend they’re engaged! Not willing to believe Evelyn’s refusal or that she and Grady are anything, he calls for re-enforcements, Evelyn’s heavy-handed grandmother! Meanwhile Grady’s mom worsens, seldom recognizing him.

Cowboy of Convenience is the first book in the Moss Creek-PD Series. It is a fake fiancé, opposites attract, small town romance with a lovable cowboy cop, a FMC who is running from her old life, and steam and wit galore.

I loved this book! The characters and storyline are fantastic! The thing I loved the most was the banter and wit between Evelyn and Grady, and also between them and Gram Grams, which were honestly some of the funniest things I’ve read! Not to mention the Yoga class scene and the elderly ladies who terrorize the town, it’s all hilarious!

I don’t like to give away too much in my reviews, but I will tell you that the writing, flow, pace, storytelling, character development, relationship development, and world building are all terrific! I would absolutely recommend this novel and personally consider it a Must Read!

Cowboy of Convenience was sweet surprising throughout the entire book in the best way.

Grady was the ultimate book boyfriend in how he supported Evelyn, finally letting her know what it felt like to have someone in her corner for the first time. He was caring, smart, and attentive towards their budding relationship giving her support to stand up on her own.

But turnabout is fair play, and instead of just being an escape from all of his responsibilities, Evelyn was the light Grady was desperately missing. Even though she never really had a loving, nurturing relationship, she was extremely caring and in tune with what Grady needed.

Overall this was a very sweet book with some unforeseen twists and a wonderful HEA.

Best of the Moss Creek stories

When I saw the trigger warning was about dementia I hesitated. See I lost my own beloved momma from her battle with dementia on July 13 of this year. I'm still heartbroken. But Jamie's stories have touched my heart. I'm so glad I gave it a chance! The dementia is hard but written with such accuracy and care, it was easier to read. Grady and Evelyn came two entirely diff
erent worlds. Hers of wealth and privilege with no love and his with way more love than money. Their journey together is woven so beautifully together. I laughed and cried through the whole story. No spoilers but the string bikini clad spray tan had my water squirting out of my nose. Run don't walk to read this amazing heartfelt story, I promise you won't be sorry

JW does it again !!!

Janice is such a good storyteller , I have to read everything she writes . I love how she’s reeled me into Moss Creek and gives me tidbits of couples/people I’ve read about in her other books . It’s nice to know that the happy ever after exists for them when I’m reading a new story. Hope she keeps them coming. It nice to read a book that though has the cute love story also gives us the real life hardships. This just makes the story that more believable and interesting . Would definitely recommend anything written by this author and know that if you want to read a good story that pulls at different emotions then go ahead and start with this book . I am positive you’ll end up looking up all her other books .

What a way to kick off a Spinoff Series! Be ready to feel every emotion throughout this story. Janice does a fantastic job of dealing with the hard things and emotions but finding parts to laugh and feel light again. Grady & Evelyn’s story was fun and sweet, while they both were dealing with things in their personal lives. I’m so happy we got to love Gram-Gram and that Grady had Evelyn to lean on through his mother’s illness. Grady & Evelyn had many great tropes – fake marriage, force proximity, shocking twists, and a mixture of crazy old ladies. You’ll laugh and cry throughout, but will love the way their story unfolds!
