Cece Levine is stranded with a crew of snake aliens. Luckily, these ones like her. The last ones she met tried to kill her.

The crew and I have a few things to work through now that we can communicate. Like why was I pretending to be a pet? What are we going to do now? And why are all of these aliens trying to kill us? Before we do anything, we need to get our ship fixed. With no better options, we fly to the closest planet to find the least reputable mechanic we can.

When an ambush turns into a city wide brawl, we're suddenly in a race against time to save one of our own. Unfortunately, the entire universe knows who we are and they all want a piece of us. There's no hiding this time. We've got to face it all head on.

In order to survive, we need to work together. How can we do that when our goals are on opposite sides of the universe?

Follow Cece and the Nest as they fly across space dodging assassination attempts left and right.

Author's Note: This is still a slow-burn romance. This book has some spice, but don't expect it to overpower all of the crazy fight scenes. We will end up with a reverse harem, so be patient *wink*

I am a writer from Seattle. Growing up in the woods listening to stories about ghosts, monsters and myths I learned to love the things that go bump in the night. I currently live in the South where there are a lot of haunted hunts to investigate. My overactive imagination makes for fun writing.

This is a surprisingly controversial opinion in the romance reader community, but I actually like cliffhangers. I’m flakey and forgetful AF, so much so that I rarely manage to finish a series even when I love it. So anything that helps to draw me back to read the next book is a godsend to me.

However, if you’re the kind of reader who hates cliffhangers, do be warned that this book ends on a doozy of a cliffhanger.

Susurex was a lot of fun to read, much like Susix. Now that the snake alien crew knows that Cece is a sentient being and not, in fact, a wild animal, they are doing their best to communicate and satiate their curiosity about their human stowaway. Culture clashes and silly shenanigans ensue.

There’s actual romance in this book too. Three out of the five crew members take an active interest in Cece, and it’s clear that all five will get there. Cece reciprocates, but haltingly, since she thinks there’s a good chance the Susix will kick her off the ship at any moment. They don’t do nearly enough to disabuse her of that notion, either. (Why so eager to get rid of her?? Seriously!! Just make her a part of your nest! Who cares if it’s a little inconvenient that she’s human?)

This is the part of the book that got on my nerves…there was quite a bit of drama that felt fabricated and unnecessary. Cece and the crew are clearly falling for each other but pushing each other away for flimsy reasons.

Another thing that was annoying to me was the way the Susix kept on treating Cece like she’s an idiot. Yes, she doesn’t know much about the galaxy because she’s never been off her home planet. But they act like she’s some kind of toddler who might tear apart the ship then kill herself accidentally if left unattended. Have some trust, hm? She’s got a brain.

Overall, I blew through this book and can’t wait for the next book’s release, whenever that is. I’m hoping for more romance development and to see Cece take charge of her own destiny a little more. Also, I want to see Susurex! The worldbuilding so far has been phenomenal.

I will say this: Amelia, your editor is failing you. There are more than a few typos and errors all across the book. Grammarly is also failing you. Lots of the comma misplacement issues I noticed are exactly the kinds of errors that Grammarly will cause if you run your entire manuscript through the software and accept all changes. The program is not all-knowing, and it’s especially stupid when it comes to commas. (This is one of those extremely rare edge cases in which I actually know what I’m talking about, since I’ve worked as a line editor going on five years now.)

Also, Amelia, while I’ve got you—put me on your ARC team please and thank you 😇 I’m gonna need book 3 ASAP 🥰🥰🥰

I love a slow burn poly romance where the heroine is a great help to her men and the character development feels believable and coherent.

More than a second book in a trilogy, this felt like Part II of one very long sci-fi romance..

I can't wait for book 3 in the series, Sepheti!

What this series brings that other sci-fi romances and reverse harem romances fall short with:

- Solid and believable relationships between the men, even those who are not lovers.
- world building that expands with each book and the details are on point: because the reptilian Susix snake men go into stasis and hibernation when temperatures drop too low, "frozen" is a common expletive/insult
- Great dialogues between the heroine and the men in the poly relationship she is not yet attracted to (I feel that the believability of ambivalent relationships really makes or breaks a reverse harem story)
- the heroine being an asset to her nest again and again, because she contributes her own skills and her cold determination
- tensions, fighting and suspicion: I think the author really shines in the moments where she describes the fights the main cast get into among themselves and how they react. Down to the antics of the rather childish extrovert in the group, I feel that the characters in this series profit immensely from the author's keen observation of human nature. Even if thy are aliens!

Hmmm.. it did not live up to the hype of the first book for me. I’ll try to figure out why if I reread it someday. I am looking foreword to the next book though.

— ———— - —
I’m sad it’s not out yet but relieved to see there is a cover and a potential release date! I just found Susix and was completely blown away but how good and different it was from the normal alien romance genre! This is now at the TOP of my want to read shelf!

I really enjoyed the continuation of this story. I couldn’t put it down this morning and had to read all the way through to the end.

The world building and character/relationship development continued to be top notch. Hot schmexy times. I liked the FMC and all the guys in the harem.

It did end on an interesting cliffhanger though. Definitely will read the next book.

This book was similar to the first. Great plot, good relationship development, terrible writing/editing. There were SO many mistakes. The author used the word literately instead of literally THREE TIMES.

Also I know there's pressure to put spicy scenes in RHs and people complain if the spice doesn't pick up by at least book 2, but it felt SO out of place in this book. They'd literally (not literately 🙃) go from stressing and freaking out that their nestmate was dying to hooking up, it was so not the right time to introduce that. I would have rathered it stay slow burn and introduced spice in the next book than to force it in like that.

This one was fun, but now that the misunderstandings are cleared up from the first one, I found I didn't find this one quite as fun. Can't wait to see everyone back together and happy.

It took me a while to read the whole book. The first 55% were slow. But it took a turn after that. actually I paced myself until I hit that point. After that I read the rest pretty quickly.
I like the story and it ends on a cliffhanger and has every fan waiting for the third book. The ending was surprising. I loved both books of the series. And thats a big compliment as I normally do not read sifi romance a lot. And yes Amelia, I would also like an ARC of the third book, but who wouldn't 😉.

As I'm still not in the review mood I recommend this review:

Well I am about ready to cuss out Amelia Rademaker. How DARE you?
First, I was feeling all the angst from the post-reveal of Cece as a sentient species and the rest of the crew struggling to deal with the aftermath.
THEN, I was upset and CRIED about 60% of the way in with what happens to Seethur. (This would have been a far worse dressing down if events had been different for Seethur after that, I assure you.)
Then there was some bittersweetness mixed in when the romantic feelings are being explored between everyone and we get some cute and spicy scenes. Just a few poignant moments sprinkled in, you know, as a treat.
And THEN, you went and threw that twist in the mix towards the end!
AND THEN!!! you had the AUDACITY to end the book on another cliffhanger!! Unlike book 1, book 2's ending doesn't even let you know where all of the characters are! HOW DARE YOU AMELIA?

Ugh, I loved this. I ended up purchasing a copy and tore through it last night staying up WAY too damn late until I got to the part that started making me cry and I finally gave up in favor of trying to sleep. Waiting to finish this book until after work was agony and then you had to go do me dirty like this? Amelia, why? Do you like hurting me, Amelia?

I'll tell you what: You can make it up to me! I will graciously volunteer to ARC read for you. That way, you can get more help on cleaning up these grammatical, wording, and spelling errors to ensure this series is the best possible work you can offer. Meanwhile, I get my grubby lil gremlin hands on the next installment as soon as humanly (or susixly? susixually? susictically? we can workshop it) as possible. Totally 100% altruistic.

To Recap, great stuff:
* Fantastic story
* Love the characters and character development
* Slow burn romance (between books 1 and 2, it's about 550ish pages before any of the MMCs talk to the FMC about their romantic feelings)
* Reverse Harem/Polycule relationship - All 5 of the alien crew are part of a found family that deeply cares for one another, some more carnally than others. At least 3 of them are also interested in our FMC Cece but it's clear all 5 end up caring for her.
* Each of the 5 MMCs have distinct personalities and feel like fleshed out people
* Some cool worldbuilding when it comes to this alien race, the Susix. There is only minor information about the galaxy at large but the impression is that there is a LOT with the sheer variety of alien lifeforms around. This gives me hope that maybe this story can continue for awhile and/or maybe there can be related books in this same universe.
* SPACE ADVENTURES (that means there are adventures.. but IN SPACE)
* SPACE HEISTS! In each book!
* SPACE PIRATES!
* This book also features visits to TWO other planets!

Cons:
* Cliffhanger that breaks my heart in two (loud enough that I hope you can hear it Amelia and think about what you've done)
* Minor grammatical, wording, and spelling errors that can be easily fixed - this was the case with book 1 as well and most if it can be easily ignored. There was at least one place where the wrong character name was used that confused me and some wording confusion over a part that seems to imply half the nest is related to each other, even though they aren't. I reread that passage like 3 times and I'm still not sure what was intended but the way the rest of the story is written, that passage makes no sense.

ALREADY EAGERLY AWAITING BOOK #3

This one didn't flow like the first. Everything went from barely communicating with each other as assumed pet to instant romantic relationships across the board. Zero to 1000 in 3 seconds. It didn't work. While I enjoyed the backstory about the crown and the trials, the horrible clan they're trying to beat and why, the budding nest relationships didn't fit within it well. And Cece went from barely understanding their behavior to being an all wise sage handing out advice to a culture that went from very different to nearly identical to ours- outside of family building. And I'm ok with a good cliffhanger, they don't bother me, but if her language and biometrics aren't something the any of the systems recognize, how are the group that rescued her able to function? Doing what they do there would be medical emergencies and casualties, some stranded during missions that would have attracted notice. You can't exactly be "off the grid" when you have to connect to said grid to survive across galaxies. I have questions, so many questions.

As for the writing itself there are many more grammatical errors than previously seen. Homonyms swapped, tenses change in a single sentence let alone within a paragraph, odd floating punctuation (like a single set of quotation marks when no one is speaking or any other excuse for them), first to 3rd person swaps, and POVs changed within chapters without announcement. We won't discuss the way her language changes in the bedroom and how odd it sounds, or the fact that he understands every bit of it when they couldn't figure out the translator earlier puzzles over dog. If it couldn't translate dog into pet then how did it translate cheesy bedroom talk to where he understood it? Also, and this is a me issue, but I feel it is an important one: she mentions a lack of toothbrush many many times. But then she uses saliva as a lubricant? That was an instant ick. Please, please add in somewhere before that scene that procurement of a toothbrush.

Did I love the first book in this series? Yes!
Did I love this book? Eh... I liked it?

Now, why wasn't this a five star read for me? Well actually the sex. After the glacial pace of the first book, this one did an absolute zero to sixty when it comes to the sex department. Suddenly the snake aliens are so hot and irresistible that the FMC is getting horny all over the place. Not to mention the alien MCs are sniffing her like she's a chocolate factory and they are ready to eat. After a short segment of weird hot and cold, some aliens admit their love and the FMC starts having wild monkey sex with them. It just didn't feel like a proper ramp up? I really wanted to see the group bond more and slowly start incorporating physical intimacy into their relationships. There was barely any discussion on what the different individuals (or species) liked or didn't and I really felt that that took something away from the whole romance of it. It didn't feel like the sex added anything to the emotion of the story, it was just there, because... sex.

Besides that, I also wanted to see the FMC have more agency in this story, and besides the thing she does at the end, that wasn't really the case. It didn't feel like she was leading the plot in any meaningful way.

Will I read the next book? Yes, after that cliff-hanger of course I will. Let's see where these snake aliens take us I guess.

it could have been better

So I am dinging a full star for all the bs talking about how there is definitely some smexy time in book 2. There is BARELY anything and what we do get is EXCEPTIONALLY lackluster. This definitely is NOT a reverse harem. This is a polyamorous relationship with the entire nest. But the whole like 2 smexy scenes get lost in the 300+ other pages worth of stuff. And there is a lot of stuff to the point that now I am losing steam for book 3 if it continues to be so lackluster.

I read the first one it’s great. The second was suppose to be a payout but it’s still an incredibly slow build and Cece is still a backseat character even though she is the FMC.

I think the story is good. But we have just a bit more long winded aspects that I think weren’t critical to the story and for who this is marketed to maybe add some spice to your risqué scenes or just don’t include them at all if we aren’t going to make it worth reading.

So WTF just happened

I thought this was a 2 book series, the ending was really not fair, funny or cute. It would be considerate to your readers to give a heads up regarding the authors decision to leave the ending hanging in such a unfinished place. I will not be picking up another of your books.

Deceptively Brilliant, Utterly Engaging.

This snuck up on me, just as the first did.
Was utterly miserable for the first 16% or so (my personal issues ☺️), but little by little it sucked me in, until by the end, I was trying to read two words at a time, gripping my iPad so hard I feared for it, and bouncing in my seat with the tension. 😳😲🥳

There were a number of improvements from the first.
Where B1 waffled just a little, feeling like it included fillers in order to provide scenes to further the characters, this was more plot driven, amping up the suspense, tension, and providing a tighter pace.

We got an added dose of action, which just flat out worked for me. 😬 Bringing this closer to a Space Opera, rather than the more simple and one dimensional SFR genre reads.

The romance continued to have more depth than you often find in this genre also. Though be aware, for those who this distinction matters to, it’s polyamorous, not RH. The characters have multiple relationships with each other, not just the FMC.

Once attraction had been acknowledged, it developed with the same class, depth, and attention to characters that B1 delivered on.
[Though the sex scenes were a bit more rough and blunt than I anticipated, particularly with all the blushing and manners previously..]

I won’t say anything didn’t work for me so much, as parts that I would add or alter only bits of:

I MISS THE HUMOUR OF B1 🥺 this was pure angst, drama, tension, and interspersed action. I LOVED all the aforementioned, just would have worshiped the additional inclusion of the previous quirky humour also.

The start was a tear jerking, heart breaker. I’ve no doubt it works for most, but I struggled to forgive those who didn’t speak up or argue then and there. That would have hurt me so much more than the bullying.
That those I considered friends didn’t stand by me… 😧 [while I know later circumstances fixed much of this, I needed a few loud words. If it were my friend… 🤨]
Was also greatly frustrated by her ‘understanding’. I needed a reason-explanation, for how she was so grounded and understanding.
I would have at least been pissed, even if I felt I had no choice but to go along, not just hurt.

In tightening things up, we lost some of that character building that was so special. This needed a little more development to retain and build on its beautiful and engaging story depth.

All that said, the story is brilliant, fascinating, and addictive.
The relationships keep growing with complicated mixes of both positive and negative traits, making them distinct and believable, and most importantly, likeable.

I LOVE the growth the author has developed with her romance.
I read some of her first books, and they sadly didn’t work for me at all. I disliked so many of the characters.
Here…the balance between flaws and forgiveness works!
The sweetness at times is a little thick, but I prefer that over cruelty presented as sexy, where betrayal only requires a sentence or two to ignore, or women ‘swoon’ despite alphaholes, with only ‘physical perfection’ required. 😳🤣

Truly, my biggest issues here, are a few areas simply need ‘more’.
Otherwise, HIGHLY recommend! I can’t wait to read more!

As for that cliffy…yes it’s a doozy, but the kind that leaves you wanting to read on, rather than frustrated and feeling jipped.
This also still felt like a real ‘ending’. It’s worth the suffering of having to wait. 😬🥸

Uma ótima continuação, estou amando essa trilogia.
Para mim não teve o mesmo brilho do primeiro livro, mas isso se deve a premissa exótica do outro. Amei ver mais aventuras em outros planetas e o envolvimento da Cece com os outros personagens.

There’s just something about this story

I don’t know what it is but it grabs you by the gonads and you just have go along for the ride. Damn I’m dying for the next book and this one just came out!
This book series needs to be read in order, go back to the first book if your just finding this one.
I love the development of the story, the spicy I can take or leave to be honest, usually I’m only reading spicy alien books but this one is different. I am rooting for Cece and all the guys. Amazing! Thank you for the glimpse inside your beautiful head Ms. Rademaker.

2.5 rounded up to 3 stars. I really enjoyed the first half of the book but then after that the overall plot seemed too stall while the romance/spice went off the deep end. The author was building the relationship with each character so nicely before just kind of insta loving it all to the extreme very suddenly. Plot events turn the relationships and spice into kind of a cringe and cheesy rushed mess. Overall I'm really disappointed by this book I really loved the first one but this one let me down.

4.5 stars, rounding down only because this didn't quite live up to my expectations after the first book, but it was still a very enjoyable read and I'm still eagerly awaiting the next book in the series coming out.

The story here is still great, and I'm still just as impressed with our MC Cece's ability to take things in stride and remain perfectly reasonable when working through legitimate misunderstandings and miscommunications (the lack of unnecessary drama is so appreciated!!). I really enjoyed reading about how the relationships between her and each of the guys shifted as they all adjusted to the new Cece-is-not-a-pet world order, and am now very invested in seeing these relationships through to the end.

The pacing (both of the larger plot and of the individual relationships) is balanced and feels organic. That said, things got a little chaotic for my tastes toward the end of this book, and I couldn't help but feel like I was getting whiplash from the last 10-20%. BUT, in fairness, I binge-read both the previous book and this one all within less than 24 hours and then had to crash into the wall of realizing I don't know when the next book will be coming out. ...Sooooo, that could be amplifying things a bit. I also didn't loooove the steamier scenes, but that part I do think is really just personal preference, and I'm picky. /shrug.

The writing still isn't as polished as I like, but it's better than most pieces you'll find on Amazon KU these days. There are a decent number of typos or cases of missing punctuation throughout the book, and I still don't love how choppy and fragmented the writing style can be at times... But, that said, I am once again happy to report that the plot is interesting enough, the pacing is quick enough, and the characters are engaging enough that I didn't really notice the typos or choppiness.

Still a great read, still a series I'm eagerly awaiting the chance to read more of, and still an unbelievable find on Kindle Unlimited. 4.5 solid stars.

I devoured Susix - loved it and added it to my favourites - and immediately preordered Susurex (lucky me, it was released a couple hours later).

Susurex has all the things that made Susix great, a fun cast, interesting premise and plot, breathing room for the characters to build a relationship, and an established dynamic between every single character in the harem that we get to see and enjoy. However, it also has some of its issues.
With Susix, I had trouble getting used to the writing style, it felt a bit choppy and at some points phrases or words seemed to be repeated alot. After a couple of chapters I got used to it and it didn't bother me that much anymore. While reading Susurex, I never got used to it, the writing threw me off quite a bit and I got into the habit of rearranging and rewriting sentences instead of simply enjoying the book. In addition to that, there were some errors here and there and at least once character names were mixed up - so, at least in my opinion, it would've benefitted from another round of editing.
I struggled with the last 20 or so pages because I was really scared where the book was going, so I skimmed ahead to brace myself and I have to say I was not happy but also not completely disappointed. The cliffhanger and twist fit into the story quite well and I'm excited to see how things will go down.

All in all, I had a wonderful time though. Didn't love it as much as the first part but I'm still looking forward to the next book and have high hopes for it being great.

Five stars for the story, One star for a short second book with a poorly timed cliffhanger

So, I truly love Amelia Rademaker. She’s an extremely talented, creative author, and I freaking love the Susix trilogy so far. It is truly standout.

What I don’t like, is how book two ended so abruptly. I mean, this book just came out about a week and a half ago, and book three is now “TBD”. Worse, the author’s next book is something completely outside the trilogy, so “TBD” definitely doesn’t mean soon.

Susurex (Book 2) was great, but it was too short, and where it ended did NOT leave me happy AT ALL. I was literally shocked (and if you can’t tell, frustrated as hell) to turn the page and realize that was it. Granted, if this trilogy weren’t so awesome, I wouldn’t be infuriated right now, so take it as a high compliment as much as a raging complaint.

Authors, if you’re doing a cliffhanger with a bunch of the plot in the air, you need to have the next book finished, or at least NEARLY finished and ready to come out in weeks, or at most a month or two. “TBD” doesn’t cut it.

As for readers, if you don’t mind cliffhangers, I highly, HIGHLY recommend the Susix Trilogy. If you hate them, hold off on the trilogy until the author finishes the third book - whenever that is.

I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first book. The pacing of the romance happened a bit too quickly here. I thought we would spend some time with everyone getting to know her and for them to adjust to the idea that she isn’t a pet. While that does happen to some extent, it feels like some scenes are missing to justify the sudden shift to sexual attraction and intimacy.

I also wondered if I was the only one who thought Cece would come up with an Either way, I still liked the direction it went—especially the ending. I was not expecting that.

I was also hoping the editing and grammar would have improved by this book, but there are still noticeable issues.

3.5 stars. I really enjoyed the slow burn at first however the result was somewhat disappointing. The build up and tension to the first “intimacy” scene was lacking. The scene was poorly written and even had a spelling error. There was a lot of potential for some amazing scenes and sexual exploration that the author missed out on. I acknowledge that a romance book is not just about sex however if you are going to include it and have it detailed, it must be done correctly. I did enjoy a lot of the other aspects to this book. I liked pretty much all the sci-fi aspects even if some explanations were a bit confusing (I can also chalk that up to my lack of sci-fi knowledge). It was very fun to hear descriptions of new planets and aliens. I enjoy the characters interactions after Cece was finally able to communicate. There was well written enjoyable dialogue and conflict resolution between characters. This book was very enjoyable regardless of its flaws. It seems like this author is fairly new. I believe she has a lot of potential. I will still be reading the next book and possibly more by her in the future

I'm gutted by the cliffhanger, but I enjoyed the story!
Cece was brilliant, I loved how she contributed however she could to the good of the nest. The guys were amazing, all of them felt like their own people, their personalities were distinct and their relationships very sweet. I liked that some of them had more romantic, or sexual relationships where the others loved each other platonically. Huzzar was such a bratty hussy, but I couldn't help loving the idiot, Seph was such a gentle soul, Hix was the cutest awkward guy ever, Vesex was a bit of a dick sometimes, but he got better. Seethur... he was so sweet and fell so fucking hard for Cece, I loved the big marshmallow and my heart was broken when he suffered.
The universe grew more in this one and it was great to see more planets and environments. I hope the third one is still coming, because the cliffhanger hurt. We don't know where are the others, how is poor Seethur, and what the hell even is happening!
God, I need the third book ;)

This might be the first (and probably last) reverse harem book that I actually like. All the main characters feel like their own person and the interpersonal relationships feel different from one another. They really did feel like a family and I did think it was understandable that CeCe bonded with them so quickly. The plot was very enjoyable and it felt like there was a lot more action in this book than the other one which I did end up liking. This is a fun world and I will probably re-read these once or twice. Also even though it was a cliffhanger I really liked the ending.

I am still super unclear on which of the dudes are sexual with each other and while I suppose it doesn't really matter all that much I kind of just want a chart of who will have sex with who. Like how epic fantasy authors include maps and glossaries and pronunciation guides. Reverse harem authors can include like a little flow chart of who their characters are willing to be sexual with. Again not super important but it would definitely give me a little giggle to see it.

Again, this is a weird series, but it's addictive.

I honestly didn't think I'd read this entire book, but found myself flying through the pages to see what would happen to Cece and the crew. I'm not reading it for the romance (which STILL weirds me out — it's giving The Shape of Water, but okay), but the characters are unique and don't feel like checkmarks off the trope box, which has kept me reading far past the point I might've put similar books down. The pacing is just right to keep my interest without whipping me through the plot too fast, although I admit to some skimming when the crew starts talking snake politics.

In a move that shocks me more than anyone, I think I am going to complete this trilogy. Yes, it's weird. No, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to anyone. But I've had some flop reads lately, so anything that can keep me turning pages is a good book in my eyes.
