Ana Martin #2

Hidden Light

Rate this book
The Hidden Light is the second book in the Ana martin series, which follows Ana as she is drawn into the secret world of the Siis, an ancient race of empathic beings torn apart by war, treachery and the consequences of past actions.

Ana believes that Gabriel's departure will keep her out of harm’s way; little does she know that it is too late for that. She already contains some of Gabriel's Shi which allows her to sense the bad intent of others. This ensures that wherever she goes, trouble will find her. After a run in with a local psychopath and more dealings with the Fae, she finally resides herself to the fact that life has changed.

Then children start going missing from the local area, leaving the police mystified as it appears a different person is taking each one. Against her better judgement and with the help of Maria, a natural witch with a stubborn personality, she decides to investigate.

Suddenly, she is drawn further into the world of the Siis and Ana finally realises that her troubles have only just begun.

I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy so it’s not a surprise that’s where my writing has taken me. In my stories, I won’t promise you pink skies and bouncing bunnies, nor will I promise you happy endings and love everlasting. The reality is, I seem to have a bit of a dark side. I find a scenario, stick a couple of characters in it, and sit back to enjoy the ride with as much idea about the direction as you will have. Real people aren’t always nice, they are unpredictable and messy and will often make the wrong choice. I write these people. Don’t get me wrong, I get to write about love and friendship, but there is also betrayal, pain and heartache. There are the unexpected storylines that will annoy and frustrate, and the story dictates the ending, not me, which can be irritating at times. So although I can’t promise you the fairytale story, I can promise you a twisted story with so many subplots you head will spin and characters that will keep you guessing. Enjoy reading. 😋

Once again I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Having enjoyed the first book in this series so much I was looking forward to reading this second instalment. I was not disappointed. If anything it has wet my appetite for reading the whole series. This second book was better than the first. Maybe that is because the characters and situation have already been established so that there could be more action and plot twists in the book. Whatever the reason the pace of this book was just right for me.

The original ideas and concepts from the first book developed more in this second book and many more details were revealed. I especially liked the council of the siis and the "trial" of Gabriel and Ana. I was scared for Ana, irritated with Gabriel and at the same time understanding that the siis were just following the way they had always done things. Quite an achievement for one scene. That is one of the things that I like about this series, things are never one dimensional.

I am also pleased to see that both Ana and Maria remain the feisty independent women that I liked and did not morph into damsels in distress when the going got tough. I was also equally pleased to see that Adam stuck around to be there for Ana, and that they became closer. He has turned into someone that Ana can always rely on, unlike her bonded one, Gabriel. He claims to love her but doubted her at the first opportunity and caused her much pain.

Gabriel's only saving grace so far in my opinion is that he tried to keep Ana protected by sending other siis to watch over her as she (and good for her) would not let him move back into the house. Understandably she does not want to be around him and sends him away. I was encouraged that he tried to apologise to her after the trial but then the idiot brought along the daughter that tried to kill his lover. Not the best way for a reconciliation. He only realised his mistake when the truth about his two faced daughter was revealed and he could no longer take her side. Far too late for Ana. Adam and Eris also seam to be less than impressed with him.

I know that the bond is proof that they did love each other, but Adam would of been a much better fit. Ana is the type of character that does not cope well with mollycoddling and although at times she finds it tough going, Adam's no nonsense way is better for her. She seams to have grown in abilities and confidence more with Adam than she ever did with Gabriel. I think that the two of them are good friends who are drawn to each other and in need of comfort. Even as she is acknowledging that she feels drawn to Adam, Ana realises that it is different to how she still feels about Gabriel all be against her will.

I feel like I really know these characters and I want to see what happens to them, how the story unfolds. I will be reading the rest of this series and I would be interested in reading any other books that this author writes in the future.

Fast paced

Very enjoyable and fast paced. Great characters with a surprise or two. No sexual content but some sexual tension. I recommend it and am looking forward to reading the next one.

In the second book of the Ana Martin series, Hidden Light, by Lyneal Jenkins, Ana is trying to live a normal life now that her Siis lover, Gabriel, is gone. But, she has some of the Siis power within her, enabling her to sense evil intent, and when children start going missing, she is drawn into finding them with the help of her witch friend, Maria.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review. After reading Night of the Fae, I anticipated a thrilling ride in this second book, and was not disappointed. This was one of several books I had on my Kindle Fire that I read during a recent two-week stay in the Mojave Desert. An interesting venue to read a story like this—it’s hard to go to sleep after being subjected to Ana’s chilling adventures as she fights the Fae, dodges Creed, a crooked cop who was her abusive ex-husband’s partner, and tries to stay one step ahead of the Siis who are keeping a watch on her.
The author has a fine way with words, orchestrating action, both physical and psychological, in a taut tale of magic, evil, and destiny that you will absolutely not want to put down until you reach the end.

After reading the first book and following our heroine through the many paranormal sticks she gets herself into, I had great expectations for the sequel. It definitely does not disappoint! First (an older) Ana is figuring out her new power of hearing or understanding people's intentions, with a much stronger personality, more self-confidence, and as a much more developed character. I definitely sense that she is more complete, settled down in herself almost. As with the first book, I cannot exaggerate how creative the author is in weaving the real world and real problems or situations with the fantasy world that she has created here. It's absolutely amazing the way that she can make such unrealistic situations feel so real! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by Lyneal Jenkins!

The reason it is four stars instead of five is because there were a few mistakes in grammar and spelling. They weren't many, but they were noticeable. However this definitely doesn't affect the story, and I still highly recommend it.

Wow. She's done it again. Completely shocked. The Ana Martin series has a way of making me hold my breath longer than is healthy. There were so many actions scenes that had me completely engrossed to the point where I didn't even want to blink, but I also had to fight the urge to close my eyes and hide in anticipation - almost like during a really suspenseful scene in a horror movie.

When I finished The Night of the Fae I couldn't really figure out where the next book would go, but man oh man. This book was so action packed and full of twists and turns it made me dizzy, In a great way!!

I can't wait to see where book three leads. Will this turn into the most deadly love triangle ever?? Will Ana survive any more heartache? Will she give up and run into hiding??! I'm not usually one for "supernatural" books but Lyneal Jenkins has this amazing way of making the supernatural seem completely real and natural. It just feels like I'm reading an AWESOME thriller/drama. Definitely add this series to your TBR list!

Hidden Light easily has one of the most exciting and interesting plots in a book that I have come across in a long, long time. I found it easy to connect and identify with Ana and I could relate with her struggle in my own weird way, always wanting her to prevail even in the parts where it seemed like she might not make it..This reminds me, the author does a good job of keeping the reader 'on edge' right before something is about to happen - it's the type of suspense that you feel in a really good thriller book, yet with the author's own twist and with the obvious fantasy vibe. It's not hard to conclude that Lyneal Jenkins is a truly talented writer so I will definitely be checking out what else she has to offer and I recommend any other fantasy fans to do the same.

REVIEW
Ana is back but without Gabriel as her love this time. She can not forgive him for trying to kill her and taking his daughter Suraya's side. Adam however becomes a great advisor to her and friend. Her good friend Marie is getting stronger in her abilities and it's up to these two to figure out who is kidnapping the children. In this book we are given more of the suspense and action and a fighting and learning Ana. I enjoyed this book and the continuing of the story of the Shii and the others.

I was gifted a copy for an honest review.

I liked the first book in this series, Night of the Fae. I loved Hidden Light.

Ana is trying to move on with her life after Gabriel left her. She is attempting to be "normal." She has the Siis light in her so when children start disappearing she is drawn to try and help.

I enjoy Ana and Maria's relationship and their witty banter. They are like two beacons for trouble!

Lyneal Jenkins has a beautiful way of describing scenery and characters and I can picture them all in my head. Her fantasy creatures are wonderfully depicted and their dialogue is exactly how I would imagine they would speak. I truly enjoyed this story and the grand imagination that created it!

After reading the first book (Night of the Fae) I had high hopes for this sequel, it did not disappoint! It is even better than the first.

Reading and actually seeing in my minds eye the characters develop is a really great experience .

The writing is of a very high calibre, the story and plot are epic in both scope and imagination. Lyneal Jenkins is a very gifted author and the characters seem to come alive from the page. One of these special and rare books that actually draws you into it in the best possible way. Fantastic!

Truly one of the best series I have discovered in a long time. I highly recommend this book, and also the series. Really can't wait for book three.

brilliant plot. went directly back into the story, which was fine for me as had just finished the second book. if you hate endless recapping (which I do) you will find this second book in the ana martin series refreshing. my only bone, the third one isn't out yet, though have learnt its due for release near xmas. I know what i'll be putting on my list. bonus for me, very little in the romance aspect and more into the action. have to say, have enjoyed seeing the main character develop. she has gone from a Bella like woman (twilight character who is very 2 dimensional) to someone who I really like. all characters are very rounded and change when confronted with different issues. loved it!

The second installment in the Ana Martin Series is action packed from beginning to end. Ana needs to learn to survive in the Siis world without Gabriel to protect her. You get to see the emotional young woman grow and change as her character strengthens. It is nice to see a book in which this actually happens. I feel it is more true to life, and gives real depth to the characters. We get a small insight into the Others (the other side of the Siis) and the war going on between them. And we get to see the friedship develop between Maria (a witch) and Ana. I loved this book, and couldn't wait to get onto the next one.

I didn't think there was much scope for this book to be better than the first, but boy was I wrong. the story expands far beyond what I expected could happen and I read this book in a day, not able to put it down until I knew everything. its fun, scary and entirely gripping. the only downside...the third book isn't out yet - am gutted. I wish the author would hurry up and get it written as im having trouble finding another series that has gripped me this much.

this is better than the first one and have to confess I was a bit late for work as didn't want to put it down (only by five minutes). what a story line. there is loads happening, but you never get lost. you follow ana as she experiences the troubles around her and there were a few occasions I found myself vocally routing for her. My husband thought I was mad lol. cant wait for the next one and will be looking for other books by this author.

I loved the first book and really enjoyed the second. It did take a few pages to get into due to no review of the first book and the start. But straight back into the story of the characters. Really enjoyed the new highs and lows of the story and I'm wondering what the next book will be from this wonderful new author. Keep it up Lyneal.

I was asked to read this second book in the Ana Martin series and found it, like the first, a good read.

This time, this fantasy series sees Ana develop and get to grips with her altered life. Some new characters alongside old, together with a involved plot, make this an entertaining read.

I don't give spoilers but will say that for those who enjoy fantasy, you should enjoy this series.

Another brilliant story, I would even go as far to say better than the first. Loads of action and I can promise that you wont be bored throughout. The character development is amazing, unlike most other books I have come across. If only they were longer.
