Rate this book
856 CE, Ireland is a land of myth, magic, and blood. Viking raiders have fought the Irish for over half a century. Rival Irish clans promise only betrayal and carnage.

Kaireen, daughter of Laird Liannon, is suddenly forced into an arranged marriage with her sworn enemy, a Viking. She refuses to submit. With no mention of love, only land and the protection of her clan, she endeavors to get her betrothed banished from her country. Will love find its way around her stubborn heart?

Bram, the Viking, finds himself without future or inheritance as a younger son in his family. A marriage to the Laird’s daughter would grant him land if he swears fidelity and if his men will fight along with the Liannons against any foe—Irish or Viking. However, the Laird’s feisty daughter only holds animosity for him and his kind. Is marriage worth the battle scars of such a relentless opponent?

With the blame for a rival laird’s death treacherously set against the Liannons, Kaireen and Bram must find a way to lay aside their differences as an unforeseen darkness sends death snapping at their heels.

Andrea has always enjoyed creating characters and stories. But it wasn't until she was in her late twenties that she started writing novels.

What happened that ignited the writing flame in her fingers? Divorced, and disillusioned by love songs and stories. They exaggerate. She thought. Love and Romance are not like that in the real world. Then she met her husband and realized, yes love and romance are exactly like the songs and stories say. She is now a happy wife, and a mom to three kids (two boys and a girl).

Once she heard about a writer who never let her characters deviate from the script. If they did, she just killed them. How sad, she thought. For her one of the best parts of being a writer is letting the characters have a mind of their own and seeing where the story takes them.

She loves this quote from Robert Frost, which sums up her opinion on allowing the characters their freedom: “No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader.”
― Robert Frost

Andrea writes fantasy, paranormal, and historical romance. When not writing or reading, one may find Andrea dancing in Zumba.

What could be better than a romance set among castles and lairds in the magical isle of Ireland where arranged marriages could make or break the tenuous peace of the land? Apparently, author Andrea R. Cooper knew the answer to that when she added some Viking Fire to the mix ! Kaireen Liannon, is a beautiful, independent-thinking, strong-willed, and slightly spoiled daughter of a powerful laird who has just discovered she is to marry a stranger, for the good of the clan. As far as Kaireen is concerned, this is NOT. HAPPENING. PERIOD. To make matters worse, her marriage is to a Viking, of all people! Enter one charmingly hot Viking, tall, muscular and blonde, with a superior sense of humor, brave to a fault, full of honor, and ever so slightly cocky. Naturally, Kaireen is determined not to marry Bram, or find him attractive, or even like him. Just as naturally, Bram is determined they will marry, and Kaireen will not be able to stop herself from wanting, needing, loving and lusting after him, no matter how much taunting and teasing it takes! But, has Bram met his match with Kaireen? There is more at stake for Bram than Kaireen knows, but he is honor-bound not to say anything, yet.

When danger strikes, and lives are threatened, these two are thrown together repeatedly and Kaireen begins to see Bram in a totally different light, in spite of her resolve not to. There is evil afoot that could mean the end of the Liannon clan. Will Bram and Kaireen live long enough to discover if they have a future together? What madness and trickery has been right under the noses of Liannons for years? Are people really who they seem to be? Who can be trusted?

Andrea Cooper must have magic in her keyboard! The world of long ago came to life, from the rushes on the floors to the smells all around. I swear, I could even feel the mud, smell the blood and the heat of being trapped in a raging fire! Dialogue isn’t always easy, but Ms. Cooper nailed it with the bantering between Kaireen and Bram! I admit it, I was grinning, doing the eye roll thing, smirking throughout most of the book! I was that involved, that lost to reality!

Would I recommend this book? You bet! But only if you enjoy a light, fun, fast-paced romance from the past that makes you feel good and a little dreamy…Oh! WHEN you read Viking Fire, remember a prediction about a huge stranger who came from the sea. I see another great story there, for sure!

Kaireen Liannon, third daughter to Laird Liannon and the feistiest one at that, is being forced into marriage with a stranger, and may the Gods help her, a Viking! She'll have nothing to do with those kind, pillagers, and not so long away, their enemies. But, time changes, things aren't the way they used to be, and the striking Viking grows on her, from his audacity to the way he works under her skin.

Bram, a Viking by birth and soon to be an Irishman by marriage, has seen the young Kaireen, and even from a distance, he knew that one day, should Valhalla be willing, she would be his wife. Little does he knows that enemies abound and are hatching vile plots to steal what is his, and an attempt to take his life is in the making. Can he be saved? Will Kaireen?

It's not until Bram is nearly lost that Kaireen discovers her mistaken ways.

Viking Fire by Andrea R. Cooper is a sweet romance filled with action, adventure, and a stronghead lass against the will of an unrelenting Viking that makes the reader wish you could spend a little more time with the characters. And the Viking, Bram, is super sexy (just like a Viking should be!). Their marriage is going to be wild and cantankerous to say the least. There were several laugh out loud moments and moments when you wondered if Kaireen was ever going to admit her attraction to the maddening Bram (by the way, I love his name!). It was easy reading, you could almost heard the brogue.

Viking Fire will lit up your summer reading list. It's a fun, fast read, and I enjoyed it immensely! I found myself smiling as the book came to an end. For those who love lite historicals, this is a must read as well as for those who love sweet romance. I felt fortunate to be able to read an early copy of the forthcoming book. Thanks go out to Ms. Cooper!

Five out of five fairy kisses for this reader.

Thanks for an early review copy Ms. Cooper, all opinions expressed are my own.

I like my historical romances but the ones I usually read are set in the 19th century. My one attempt at reading something set farther back was a complete fail *cough Born in Sin cough*. This book is set even farther back, in ‘856 CE’ but the idea of Vikings being involved was intriguing enough for me to overlook the last time I got burned.

This was certainly a whole lot more tolerable than Born in Sin but the story itself was lacking. The setting was pulled off really well but when it came to the plot and characters, things just didn’t work out.

Starting with the main character, Kaireen, who is a speshul snowflake. She isn’t ordinary like her sisters, her father taught her how to use a bow and arrow and she also happens to be the only sister who gets a dowry. I do not understand. Why is she so special? She seems too brazen for a girl in that time. and is always running around doing things she shouldn’t be. The only quality about her that I actually like was how she was somewhat self-centered. We’ve encountered all those female leads that are so nice it’s sickening. The ones who probably go skipping around town throwing flowers everywhere from their special flower basket *gags*. I liked how she was actually aware of her position as the daughter of the leader of the clan. She wasn’t rude to the servants but she didn’t go out of her to be nice… and she actually got pissed at how she was treated during the term of her punishment (which she got for running around doing things she shouldn’t have… so that’s another plus).

I was really surprised by how everyone around her seemed to be fawning over ‘the enemy’ and she was the only one who had the common sense to actually realize that he was the enemy. Hotness shouldn’t be used as a way to redeem a character. That never helps. I suppose he’s never done anything ‘wrong’ but how can they be so certain he isn’t like the rest of the Vikings that raid their lands? What happened to self-preservation?

Getting to said enemy, Bram, why? Why is he so enthusiastic to marry her? I mean from what I understand he basically creepily observed her and fell in love and wanted to marry her. What? No. Ugh. He also happens to be a tad bit too perfect for my liking. Stopping men from beating up their wives, rescuing sisters (not once but TWICE), swearing fidelity to a girl he hasn’t married and who knows nothing about him, oh and he’s really hot.

The romance set off all my alarms, INSTA LOVE ALERT. One day she is hating on him, the other she is worried he is going to die. What? How did you even get there? I thought you didn’t want to marry him and now you’re telling yourself you don’t love him. Huh? Let’s not forget they know NOTHING about each other (well Bram did creepily observe her).

The plot did not work at all. It lacked substance. It was like trying to piece a puzzle where the pieces obviously did not fit. The pacing in general was messed up. Events occurred one after the other but they were never dwelled on. It was almost like a check list. They get attacked, check, there is a fire, check, etc. I just don’t understand what the point even was. The villain was very dull and seemed more like a wannabe than anything else. Like being evil for the sake of being evil and nothing else. I didn’t completely understand what made her tick and why she was out for blood. Some of the things were just vaguely mentioned never to be talked about again. The plot was all over the place and things didn't really tie back.

Simply put, this book did not work. It was decent enough but it lacked substance and couldn’t keep my attention.

The last thing Kaireen wants to do is get married, especially to the blond Viking who happens to be sitting at her favored spot beside her father's left hand. Immediately, we dive into Kaireen's struggle, against her father's ruling on her marriage as well as her growing attraction to the Viking Bram, who slowly makes room for himself in her heart.

Cooper did an excellent job creating her world without overloading on the sensory details. I could see where Kaireen and Bram rode from her father's land to the ocean and I could imagine the ships looming on the horizon. The small, intimate details of their surroundings built a stronger image in my mind than describing the entire scene down to the blades of grass. The rivalries and tense relationships between the other clans added to the tension of the entire novel and lead to the plot twists that are to come in the end.

The depth of the characters themselves was fascinating. Each character, from the unnamed handmaiden to Kaireen's mother's annoying handmaiden, was created with intention and deliberation. It made the entire story (running a short 172 pages) engaging and fascinating - I couldn't put this down. Bram's character was the epitome of compassion, kindness, and sexiness, with just the right mixture of roughness mixed in. He perfectly matched Kaireen's stubborn yet sweet warrior princess personality.

Final Thoughts: I was nervous for Kaireen, amused by her stubbornness, flattered by Bram's attentions, and thrown by the plot twists. The book itself was incredibly entertaining, grabbing me from the moment I clicked my Kindle on. I liked this book because it was the typical romantic formula that many historical romances use, but it had that special something that makes it unique. Kaireen's stubbornness was endearing instead of a little irritating, possibly because she wanted to admit her love for Bram but wouldn't let herself. His calm, patient (and sometimes impatient - wink) courting of her was so lovely, it was impossible to not cheer for them.

This captivating, edge-of-the-seat tale in the days of Vikings, Druids and brutal clan warfare is set in the enchanted Emerald Isles. It tells of the impassioned love the Viking, Bram, carries for the reluctant, beautiful and fiery Kaireen. These were the days of marriages arranged for the sole purpose of land acquisition and protection and Kaireen wants none of it. Bram, who has no prospects of wealth or land is willing to marry the daughter of a traditional enemy in exchange for his loyalty and access to warriors. But from the moment he sees Kaireen he knows she is the perfect wife for him with her courage, stubbornness and determination.

Andrea R Cooper creates magnetic characters who charge through her novels with fire and passion. Her heart-pounding writing style leaves the reader with no time to take a breath before they are pulled headlong into the next crisis or adventure. A wonderful adventure and very hot romance. Loved it.

This was a fast-paced read with lots of action and intrigue. The story hit the ground running and never let up.

I loved the descriptions of period food, clothing and customs which added to the richness of the world. Bram and Kaireen had loads of chemistry and fun romance.

Kaireen is a worthy heroine who began as a bit entitled but came into her own through the tale.

I loved the touch of mysticism and would recommend the read to not only historical buffs but fantasy and parnormal fans as well.

So – I was expecting something unique and different, and I certainly got it with this book! Ireland of long ago: green, dotted with castles and battles for territory is beautifully detailed and recreated for the reader by Andrea R. Cooper, and the added bonus of this sweetly plotted romance certainly kept it interesting.

Kaireen is the daughter of the Laird, and soon to be married against her desires to a Viking which will ensure the clan’s stability. While Kaireen is not a happy camper with the situation, her bold and often brash sense of entitlement and ornery streak keep her determined to not find anything remotely intriguing about the man. Then Bram appears: tall, blonde, sexy, smart and determined to have her begging for his companionship and touch.

When the Liannon clan is threatened and the future of the clan, and even Bram and Kaireen’s future is endangered: she begins to see the wisdom in her father’s choice. Soon the two are bantering their way into a happy ending, with smiles all around.

Cooper has penned a wonderfully fun, fast-paced and well-conceived story that manages to present a new historic hero for readers to appreciate. With clever dialogue, intrigue and just enough danger to feel possible and natural for the time, this story was a delightful escape and is sure to please readers who like a little ‘what if’ with their romance.

I received an eBook from the publisher for purpose of honest review for the Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility

856 Ireland is a wild and barbarous time for Kaireen, daughter of a Laird, to be married to a Viking invader she's never met. The fiery red-head is determined to avoid her fate and tries at every turn to persuade her barbarian she will not marry him. But when his rugged good looks and superior fighting skills begin to sway her heart, Kaireen must work hard to guard herself from falling for the Viking.

Bram, the ultimate hot, hunky hero, is easily attracted to his reluctant bride. He puts up with her attempts to discourage him and mounts a subtle but constant campaign to win Kaireen's heart--even offering to set her free from the arranged marriage. Does she take him up on this offer? Read Viking Fire to find out!

I don't think I've ever read a Viking romance before, so Viking Fire was a wonderful introduction to this era in Irish hsitory. I adore all things Irish and this book gave me a fascinating glimpse into an earlier period than I've encountered before.

It's a fast paced historical that will keep you on the edge of your seat and turning pages into the night. These two feisty lovers will absolutely capture your heart as they encounter mauraders, hostile clansmen, and a bit of magic during their struggle to find a way to their HEA.

Two things I'd like to have seen more of: deeper POV for Kaireen so I could feel her emotions better and more POV period for Bram. He's such a hot hero I wanted more "face time" with him! Otherwise, another fantastic romance from Andrea Cooper.

BTW--Will Shay get her own story? I'm dying to know!

Kaireen, has watched her sisters be married off and wants to avoid an arranged marriage if she can. As the daughter of Laird Liannon, she knows it is her duty but when she is told that she is to be married to a Viking she adamantly refuses.

Viking, Bram knew that Kaireen is meant to be his. With her fiery hair, her temper to match Bram makes his intent clear, they will be married. Kaireen plans to fight him all the way, she doesn't plan to fall in love. Even if with each day it is getting harder to resist his teasing, smile, and those little kisses that make her want to melt in a puddle on the floor.

Bram is pure male, but he understands Kaireen's spirit and knows she will make a perfect match for him. Wonderful story, I was swept away in the spirit of it and will be reading more from this talented author in the future.

Viking Fire is an exciting and unusual read. Set in 856, a time I know little about, it is about the romance between Kaireen, a Laird’s daughter, and Bram, a Viking. Their marriage is arranged by her family, but feisty Kaireen is determined not to wed Bram. These are dangerous times however, and soon she starts to realise that Bram has qualities she admires.

I loved the historical descriptions in this book, the author has brought to life brilliantly a time period that little is known about. The characters are wonderfully depicted, especially the very attractive Bram! I also liked that fact that the world was not shown in an unrealistic way, but that the hardships and loss were all part of life.

Overall, a great and fascinating read that’s just that little bit different!

There is nothing more delicious than being swept into ancient times on the whims of an independent female and an over-sized Viking. Not only did I enjoy the tug and pull of Irish Kaireen and the Lochlann Bram, but I found incredible nuggets of fun detail braided like ribbons through the tale.

Set against a backdrop of early 9th century Ireland, Andrea R Cooper infuses her debut Historical novel, VIKING FIRE, with liberal amounts of adventure, romance and intrigue.

Ireland…land of myth, magic and blood

Ms Cooper brought the medieval era to life for me with the rich detail that is interwoven throughout the novel. I could picture Kaireen climbing into the giant kettle to scour the encrusted blackened stew. I could smell the sour milk, rotten swine slop, and urine in the dyeing room. I could hear the monastery bells and the clang of swords and shields.

I love a hero with a sense of humour and a heroine who can take care of herself and I got both in this book.

Bram, son of Ragnar

Bram is the typical Viking warrior…tough but honourable, brave but compassionate. More than once he risked his own life to save others. What made him different was his cheeky sense of humour which he frequently displayed in his ‘wooing’ of the reluctant Kaireen.

“I thought the air would clear your head.” He cocked his eyebrow, examining her.

“My head is fine, thank you.” “Aye, and the rest of you is fine to look at too.”

His thick dialect chased shivers through her. Her hands smoothed her gown. She caught herself and stopped. At seeing his grin, her frown deepened.

“I believe it’s improper for you to stare at a lady so.”

“Would you rather I stare at you on our wedding night?” She opened her mouth to speak, but he continued. “Whilst you are without clothes?”

Kaireen, daughter of Laird Liannon

Kaireen is strong-willed, a trait that often found her at odds with her father, especially when he informs her that she must marry the Viking Bram, someone she regards as a foreigner and an enemy. She stubbornly refuses to marry him, despite the fact that she finds herself unwillingly attracted to Bram.

Thoughts were lost in his embrace. It was as though she had drunk too much wine and could think of nothing but him.

She’s a bit of a warrior as well…proficient with both sword and longbow and willing to wade into battle to save the man she loves.

The romance was fun to watch and I enjoyed the lively exchanges and sexual tension between Kaireen and Bram . A Happy Ever After is always more satisfying if it is hard won and they certainly have plenty of obstacles to overcome…betrayal, vengeance and treachery.

The interesting cast of secondary characters includes Elva, Kaireen’s handmaid, who is far more than she seems and the villainous Feoras O’Neill, who would have been well and truly at home in an Alfred Hitchcock psychological thriller.

This book has a great climax with the traitor revealed and a fierce and bloody battle.

Men blurred in blood and sword.

Overall, this was a very impressive debut novel with just the right mix of romance, action and intrigue.

This review, and many others, can be found on my website, My Written Romance .

I must confess that in the past, I would have probably walked right on by Viking Fire. It wouldn't have been for any reason other than this particular period of history hasn't always captured my interest. However when I was approached to review this, I decided to leap into the unknown and I was very pleasantly surprised. There was plenty of action, mystery and intrigue, as well as wonderful chemistry between the hero and heroine.

Kaireen is not excited at the prospect of being joined in marriage to Bram, a Viking raider. Being married off to a sworn enemy with no indication of a love match? "No, thank you" is her reaction. She vows to do whatever is in her power to prevent him becoming her husband.

Bram is a younger son, and as a result, he has no defined future and no lands to inherit. He has agreed to marry the daughter of an Irish laird in exchange for land and loyalty. Despite Kaireen's utter reluctance to become his bride, he is drawn to her and does all he can to convince her otherwise.

The chemistry between Kaireen and Bram is electric. Their opposing personalities bounce well against each other. Kaireen is headstrong and feisty, with absolutely no qualms about voicing her distaste for the situation. However Bram is calm and patient with Kaireen, and takes great joy in teasing and answering back (in other words, he's a real flirt).

It was a lot of fun watching Kaireen battle against herself in regard to her feelings for Bram. Here's this man she wants so desperately to dislike, but he gets under her skin to the point where she finds resistance is harder to maintain than she expects.

When Bram is wounded in a battle with other Lochlann raiders, Kaireen steps in to help him. You'd think she'd be lauded for this - oh, no...she gets punished. I thought the punishment she was dealt seemed a tad extreme, but hey, my knowledge of 850s-era punishment is pretty weak. Can't say I'd be that keen to scrub arm-deep in lye soap.

The other characters in this story were brilliant, adding much drama and intrigue. Feoras, of the rival O'Neills - wow, is he a misogynistic piece of work? His thirst for vengeance is pretty extreme. There was a rat in the ranks at the Liannon keep, aiding Feoras in his evil plans - it took me a while to work out who that was. I like not being able to work out the bad guy straight away.

Being set in the first millenium, there were plenty of battle scenes. On occasion, they went a little long, however they were really well-done.

The quest for revenge by Feoras and the "mole" comes to quite a dramatic conclusion. I won't spoil the fun and tell you exactly what happens. However, I will say this: "Go you, Elva!".

As I said at the start, I've never been one much for Viking-era romance, but if you can find me others like Viking Fire, I may just be a convert.

My rating: 4 out of 5

Kaireen is a young Irish woman who lives in 856 CE where dragons, fairies and Vikings still bless the lands and pillage all the same. She is the last of her sisters to marry and is stated to be lucky to marry at all with her being in her twenties and too old for some men. Her father has arranged for her to be married to Bram a foreigner and also a Viking. Kaireen despises the man and tries anything she can to get out of the marriage, but when the perfect opportunity arises and he becomes wounded while fighting for her land, her heart can’t let him die. Will she marry this man? Will the unforeseen darkness take them before a marriage can occur? Read it!

I enjoyed reading this book. Usually I get lost in books that authors try to explain in olden times, but there are a fair few that suck you in and you can’t put down. This is one of them! Kaireen is a strong minded woman who believes marriage should be for love and not allies, but she also longs to have a true, honest husband that only loves her. My favorite scene has to be the bath house.

Bram the Viking is, without doubt, one of my favorite heroes from this year. Every time he graced the page, I swooned (as did the heroine, though she fought it tooth and nail, poor girl). Viking Fire had some very rich world-building. The keep, daily life in the BC era, the cast of characters--all contributed to create a setting that surrounds the reader and brings the story to vivid life. If you're a Viking romance fan, this is a don't-miss for sure!

I love books like this where the main character starts off one way and grows into a wonderful person. I dislike books where the main character is perfect and never develops.

Andrea writes characters so three-denominationally that you'll either love them or not. I for one love her characters and her stories.

I'm looking forward to many more books by this debut author.

So, I received this book in exchange for an honest review and I have to say that I was so excited to read it because I have a new found love for historical pieces/romances.. and honestly I believe I learned to love them with the Clockwork Angel Series by Cassandra Claire and the fact that I loved history in school. :) Well..... I actually give this book 4 and a half stars..... was not sure if I should stay on 4 stars or round it up to 5..... but decided to post 4 stars. Again... I give this book 4 1/2 stars!

First let me give you a synopsis of the book from Goodreads....

This book was fabulous! You do have to get used to the dialect when reading it, but once you do it is such a great story! I loved the "love story" that the author built between Kaireen and Bram.... and all together there was plenty of mystery throughout to keep you guessing and entertained. I never once felt that the story dragged on, or was too slow or hard to get into. I must praise Andrea Cooper for such a beautifully written story. I honestly cannot remember any editing issues.... it was written smoothly and a was a truly great read from beginning to end! I loved Kaireen's character... she was such a tough and spunky character for the time period that this book represents and it made me love it even more! Thank you Andrea for the opportunity to read the beautifully written book and recommend it to lovers of romance, historical fiction, YA/NA, ANYONE!!! I am a huge fan of The White Queen Series on Starz and if you are as well..... this book is definitely for you!

A marriage to the Laird’s daughter would grant him land if he swears fidelity and if his men will fight along with the Liannons against any foe – Irish or Viking.

REVIEW:

It’s been a while since I’ve read a Viking romance, so I was excited to immerse myself in a world that had long since vanished. The beginning of the book was a little shaky for me. Kaireen was not a very sympathetic character, coming off as a spoiled child. As the book continued, I was relieved to discover her reaction was due to her fear of her pending nuptials. That’s when we meet Bram. Bram was a big, burly Viking that instilled fear and lust in Kaireen in equal measure. He flirted instead of giving her the fight she wanted. She had no idea how to handle him or the stolen kisses that made her forget she’s supposed to hate him, and Bram used that to his best advantage.

But things were not what they appear. Rival clans, deceit, espionage, an epic battle and a touch of the paranormal kept the action of the book speeding along. When everything Kaireen holds dear crumbles around her, she must decide what is really important, and find the courage to risk everything for the Viking who’d stolen her heart. The writing could have been tighter, the paranormal element not so blunt in the end, but I enjoyed the story and the vivid peek into the past. Everyone should have a Bram in their life.

Kaireen, an auburn-haired beauty with a fiery temper to match, is furious with the marriage that looms ever closer in her future. It is not the marriage itself that angers her so, but her match. He is a Viking, a Lochlann, and in Kaireen’s eyes this does not bode well. She sees the Lochlanns as no good and untrustworthy. She even sees him as a possible spy, infiltrating her family’s lands. However, what her mind thinks and what her body thinks could mean an internal struggle for her once she sets eyes on her betrothed.

Bram is a man who knows what he wants, and he wants Kaireen. He tells her time and time again that they will marry, and seems to see through her protestations. This aggravates Kaireen to no end, causing her to want to resist him even more. However, a series of events will soon begin to change her mind.

This series of events is caused by the corrupted ways of one person. An enemy who is bent on seeing the destruction of Kaireen and her family’s rule and who will not stop until this is fulfilled.

Bram could be the saving grace. But will he risk his life for a woman who wants so desperately to deny him?

I love this book so much. It has fire to it, and action. It is probably unlike a lot of the romances I have read before. I love the inner struggle for Kaireen as her body fights her mind regarding Bram. The way Bram kind of goads her at times regarding this struggle is priceless. But, even through all the goading, you can tell he truly does want to marry her. He truly does care for her, but it is all up to her to decide her own true feelings.

I recommend Viking Fire to anyone who loves romance and a fight, because you will definitely get both.

Andrea has done it again. She creates a world that we want to fall into with characters we really want to know.

The setting is done in a way that really works. She's taken the time and effort to craft a world that is believable in both details, setting, and facts, but also the people that she's placed in it.

Bram (perhaps, an little tribute to Stoker?) is a raider with no real prospects... it sucks to be the younger son, doesn't it? And Kaireen is a true Irish lass, she doesn't want anything to do with him (makes me think of Meirda in Brave). This would seem to be like a match made in Hades, but the chemistry between these two is likely to burn all those around them.

Andrea weaves a spell with her words that draws her readers in and makes them want to know more. They need to know what will happen between these two. They become invested- a sign that the book is great.

If you're a fan of period pieces, specifically with Vikings, you'll love this one. It's romance, but it's too good to sum up with just romance. Check it out.

Cooper’s novel is historically accurate while remaining approachable to modern day readers. The mixing of Celt & Norse mythology gives a very unique feel to this tale as well. The storyline is solidly put together and presented to the audience in an enchanting way that will leave you wanting to become part of the tale rather than simply read it. Cooper melds vivid battle scenes with heartfelt interactions to complete this.

Cooper’s characters are well developed, but in a very natural way. You don’t feel like you’ve read about them in a history textbook, but rather that they are individuals that you’ve met and interacted with. This goes for the main characters as well as the supporting cast.

This is the type of story that draws you in completely and doesn’t let you go. I was left with a sense of wonder and completeness while still wanting to continue on further with these phenomenal individuals.

Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

You had me at Viking.

Kaireen is feisty, independent, and won’t let anyone tell her what to do. I pretty much loved her right away. When Bram comes for her hand in marriage, Kaireen digs her heels in and tells him she’ll never marry a Viking, convinced he’s a spy and will betray her family. Except, her attraction for him refuses to dissipate. It escalates with each passing day, especially since they keep bumping into each other. The scenes in the baths were on fire, and Bram had me smiling with the way he teased Kaireen, well aware it made her uncomfortable. I’m a huge fan of Bram and wanted more of him. A lot more!!
This was a fun, fast read that had me captivated, and I enjoyed every scene. Set against a backdrop of mystical castles in historical Ireland, Viking Fire brings to life a beautiful romance that I highly recommend to all romance readers. I can’t wait to get my hands on more stories from this author. Andrea R. Cooper is an author to watch.

Viking Fire, the fist book I have read by this author, was a very delightful and thoroughly entertaining read. I was drawn into the story since reading the synopsis and the book did not disappoint!

The novel is very similar to some of Monica McCarty's works- falling more under the young adult category rather than adult- and I absolutely love those novels, so this story was a great fit for me. The mixture of romance, history, action, suspense and a fiery heroine makes for a classic story. While a tad on the short side, characters are very intriguing and the story is wonderfully written. It takes you back to a time long ago and keeps you hooked the entire time.

Viking Fire includes an epic battle scene, betrayal, and a little spice to top off the sweetness. It is a great novel in a genre that is often times hit and miss with me.

I am anxious to read more from this author!

The idea for this story itself is actually really great; the plot was good, but it just sort of lacked depth for me overall. It could have used a lot more detail in some parts, and really the main problem I had with it is the main character Kaireen, because she just wasn't likable to me. She's a bit self centered and spoiled and doesn't ever really seem to appreciate anyone around her until she finally falls in love with Bram, but even by that point it felt kind of hollow because I just spent the whole book not liking her. I especially didn't like that she never appreciates her handmaiden Elva, who is beyond amazing and does so much for her, but even in the end, Kaireen doesn't seem to realize that. (Maybe it's supposed to be implied that she does, but... it's not really ever there to me.) I suppose she is somewhat nice to her sister, but even with that at one point she has a selfish thought of wanting to basically give her a beat down for something that happens -- that seems to be a common theme for her, having selfish thoughts of wanting to punish someone for something she thinks they've done wrong. I just didn't get that. I mean I get that she's a high born and would be spoiled to some degree, but she just doesn't seem empathetic enough to like or be able root for, and you want to root for the main character in a story like this, that's what makes the happy ending special. She actually at one point calls her sisters "plain" in comparison to herself... which again, makes it a wee bit hard to care about her. She's also particularly mean spirited towards the character Rebecca as well, which is also nasty on her part. Again, Kaireen is just not likable and so thus I didn't root for her or care about her getting the guy in the end.

I will say that even though this story didn't work for me, the author is obviously very talented and I'm definitely curious to read more of her work and would certainly recommend it. It's absolutely worth checking out.

C- rating.

I’m not sure exactly why I’m so disappointed with this book. I adore historical fiction when the Irish or Scottish are involved. I am completely fascinated by Norse/Viking history. Imagine my giddy glee when I was offered the opportunity to read a title that combined both!

There were a lot of things that detracted from my enjoyment of this title. I didn’t get enough description of the landscape, nor the things that attract me to the time period. During this period in history, religion was important. Mother Earth was the be-all, end-all. Until the end of the book, nothing was mentioned about Druidism. Mention of Norse belief systems were oaths uttered. Even the blurb mentions myth and magic. Usage errors that WORD wouldn’t catch. Really, I’m not a snob about these things (ok, maybe I am…), and I would probably have been alright with them if the story had been more captivating. The plot was predictable, and the conflict was pretty much meh for me. I almost felt like we were just reading Kaireen’s diary.

I liked the two main characters, for the most part. I also liked Kaireen’s handmaid. A lot. At times, I felt she drove the plot. Kaireen’s parents were incidental characters, and I felt that their presence was mainly conflict-based. While parents do have their place in conflict in historical titles, for me, there needs to be redeeming interactions when there’s conflict with the ‘rents. The ‘other’ clan, the O’Neills, provided the bulk of the conflict. The younger brother seemed like a psychotic, spoiled brat that didn’t get the prize out of the cereal box to me. I was disappointed at his ending. I wanted more. There was the potential. Rhiannon, Kaireen’s mother’s handmaiden and the dominatrix of the dye room, was quite a surly one. I get the whole revenge thing. I get the plotting and conniving. I even get the whole betrayal thing. What I don’t get is why, if she despised the family, would she serve them in such a capacity for so many years? Most surely, there would have been other ways to go about her revenge. And ways to make the ends meet in a more timely fashion.

I did see the romance between Bram and Kaireen, and I like the way it played out. I would have liked to see more between them, but understand the author’s plot development between them. Their chemistry was palpable from the first moment they met. The foreshadowing about Bram was pretty much the only thing I’d not predicted in the entire story before hints were dropped. I wanted more stolen moments. I wanted Kaireen to declare her love for Bram after the fire at her sister’s house. I wanted Kaireen even more frantic and compelled to see Bram than she already was. As a reader, knowing that two characters have declared their love for one another gets me more invested. Even if Kaireen hadn’t told Bram, if she’d told SOMEONE … that would have been fine with me. It seemed like loving Bram was her dirty little secret, and she was being a petulant child to defy her parents. Even though ‘everyone knew’.

Bram was the shining star in this title for me. Except we never were regaled with Viking/Norse religion. I wanted to hear more about stories from Bram’s childhood. There are several that would have beautifully tied into the story and helped to drive the plot. Bram’s heroism was stellar. I liked the way he became emotionally invested in Kaireen’s family – especially her sister – from his initial introduction. I liked the way he gave Kaireen space to make her own decisions and be headstrong. Because those were qualities he loved about her.

I wanted to like Viking Fire. I really tried. Mr. VampBard can attest to the fact that I started out sighing and shaking my head, which turned in to groans. Then muttering. Ms. Cooper did a great job with the development of her two main characters. I wished, however, that the bulk of the story were further developed and embraced the culture, religion, and general feeling of the time period.

I received a copy of this title for an honest review. Originally published at twimom227.com.

Kaireen have just been informed that she is to be wedded to another. This would not have been a problem except for one minor little problem. Her husband to be is a Viking, known for their raiding they aren’t considered to be the best choice of a husband, not even an ally. She doesn’t take the news very well and refuse to marry him.

Kaireen’s ears heated, “I am not marrying,” She shook her head for emphasis. “So there will be no morning, nor night, nor wedding.”

When she finally meets her husband to be, he catches her eyes but she refuse to give in to him. Standing firm she decline all Bram’s advances. But Bram isn’t going to let her win so easily. With charm and wit he turns the table, and Kaireen find herself blushing many times.

“Careful,” His dark sapphire eyes twinkled. “People would think you swoon for me.”

It was a delicious fight for dominance between the two but as time pasts and Kaireen sees the true nature of Bram, he slowly and surely changes her mind.

It’s when her clan is in danger that Kaileen finally decides to follow her heart, and find it cold on the ground.

“I love you Bram. I - I tried to come sooner.”

Andrea created an amazing tale, filled with a feisty vixen that guards her heart and believes with pride and courage. Complementing this, Andrea introduce us to the very charming and delightful Bram that shows that to cast judgment before you know someone is ill advise. The characters and the plot is intriguing and you will find yourself lost in this tale and never whishing it to end.

Andrea’s writing was well written and I didn’t find myself stumbling once. A great read with impressive editing. If you are looking for a great Scottish tale, then you can indeed pick this one up and enjoy the tale with me.

Kaireen’s life is about to take a drastic change. Her father, Laird Liannon, have just sold her off for marriage with a bloody Viking - their enemy. Stubborn in nature Kaireen vows that there will be no wedding, but a funeral, his to be exact. She wasn’t going to be betrothed to a bloody Viking.

But the Viking Bram have watched Kaireen for a while before the announcement, he knows how stubborn and hard-headed she can be, and he is well prepared. She fights him around every corner and refuses to submit. But when Lochlann’s invades their country Kaireen sees another version of Bram, a version se fears would destroy her. Will she deny herself the entangling Viking, or fall head of heals for him?

This was such a fabulous read. I just love Irish and Scottish romance. Andrea created and amazing heroine Kaireen. She is stubborn, hard-headed and doesn’t take any crap from anyone. But behind this mask is also a strong warrior and a woman that is ready to be loved, yet denies herself the opportunity.

Bram was the Viking sent from heaven. Gorgeous and a born hero, Bram ensures that you will be flustered by the end of this novel. The development of the characters was sweet and intriguing. The more you read the more you start seeing the real characters. The plot was developed amazingly and I wasn’t disappointed to reach the end.

Andrea’s writing style is fresh and perfect. I didn’t stumble one time and was reading page after page. It’s a beautiful romance, set in an enchanting time with amazing characters and events. This was well worth reading and I can’t wait to ream more from this author. A well-deserved 5 stars from me.

Viking Fire is the tale of Kaireen, a young Laird's daughter who suddenly finds herself in an arranged marriage with a stranger. And a viking no less. Angry at being bartered off for extra manpower, and furious that no one seems to remember these same people were recently their enemies, she refuses him. But Bram doesn't seem to mind the chase, after all it is her fiery emotions that captivated him in the first place, so he's willing to work to win her over.

If a book is set in Ireland or Scotland, I am so there. Plus this book had vikings, and it has been a very long time since I read a book with a viking hero or heroine in it. Normally, I find viking romance tales, to be, well barbaric. I know that at the time women had no say in pretty much anything, but when authors pass that off as romance, I get very, very angry. But the romance in Viking Fire was sweet, and -with the exception of one scene at the end- tame. They were such a cute couple.

At first I wasn't sure what to think of Kaireen. She's very stubborn. While I could understand her motives, and even respect her for it, I was a little afraid she wouldn't see reason if presented to her. After all, there was a spy in her home. But as things go on and she endure something she never would have experienced if it wasn't for her own actions, she grows up some and it kind of tempers her expectations a bit. Which only makes her all the more likeable as a character.

We do not get much about Bram since the story is told mainly from her point of view. The reader learns why he thinks she'd be a good match for him from his thoughts, but is left to ferret out his personality from his action and words. I kind of liked him from the beginning, but it was once he said something rather spoilerish that I really adored him. It's something so small, but changes things, and it made you realize that he too is growing during their experiences.

The story itself was entertaining. I liked the romance bit, but I also liked the who traitor aspect to the story. It kept things interesting and made you feel like you traveled back in time to a land of danger, magic, and adventure. I won't say more about it, because I didn't know anything more about it going in, and I rather liked that. It made things adventurous as you tried to figure out the why before our heroes were even aware there was a problem.

Viking Fire was a quick, fun read. If you like Vikings, Ireland, or cute love stories, than this may be the book for you.
