Liliana Hart spent five years teaching music in the public education system. She molded America’s youth, busted kids for smoking pot in the restrooms, and broke up illicit affairs behind the stage on a regular basis. (Liliana’s Addison Holmes Mystery Series, about a small town teacher who gets into a whole lot of trouble, is somewhat autobiographical, but she won’t confess to which parts).

Liliana began reading romance novels with all her new found free time, and when she ran out of things to read, she decided to write her own novels. The result was a 150,000 word thriller—a dazzling adventure—where the heroine was a thirty-year-old virgin assassin (Yes, you read that right). She couldn’t imagine why people weren’t knocking down her door to read it, but she persevered and began writing a second book. She finally got the hang of things, and eventually learned that losing one’s virginity wasn’t all that romantic after all. All of her books involve some kind of suspense (she just can't help herself), laughter, and a lot of steamy sex.

Since the failure of her first attempt, Liliana’s books have won awards such as: The Daphne Du Maurier, The Suzannah, The Linda Howard Award of Excellence, The Maggie, and many others. Her affiliations include Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America.

Liliana loves to cook, and is addicted to reading, Internet Boggle, kickboxing, and Bones. She lives in a big, rambling house in Texas with a couple of cats to keep her company. She loves to get emails from readers.

Enjoy the Adventures!

***3.5 Stars***

This was a really solid start to what looks like a great series centering on four brothers in the small town of Surrender, Montana.

I love me a good ol' small town setting.

Here we're introduced to the second oldest MacKenzie, Dane. Dane blew out of town weeks after his mother's passing. Grief, confusion, frustration and a host of other emotions began suffocating him. Losing his best friend and biggest supporter was a blow too difficult to get back up from....so Dane left Surrender in search of himself. He left behind his family, the woman he loved and his feeling of inadequacy.

Charlotte has lived the last 10 years of her life caring for her son and making a life for herself. As a teenager she was left alone and pregnant and decided the best course of action was to flee town and hide....hide from the town and hide from the memories that Dane left behind. She's spent the majority of her adult life living in Chicago, but six months ago she found herself back in Surrender after her father's passing.

Dane and Charlotte's paths cross the moment Dane sets foot back in Surrender. Ten years have passed, but the memories and feelings are still alive and fresh. Both Charlotte and Dane have held on to the memory of their love and have never found anything that could come close.

Do Dane and Charlotte have a chance of building a future together? What happens when Dane finds out exactly what he left behind? Can Charlotte find a way to forgive Dane for leaving her? For not confiding what he was going through after his mom's passing?

I'll tell you one thing, this was way hotter than I was expecting. Was it a bit too much gratuitous sex? Yes. Did I mind? No. I may not have felt the depth of connection between the MC's that the author was going for, but I definitely bought into it. The author has 100% succeeded in piquing my interest in under 50 pages.

This doesn't exactly end on a cliffhanger, but it does end with some major unresolved issues for Dane and Charlotte. For those that are curious, I'll put it under a spoiler. The last chapter of the book is too rushed for me...especially with the type of decision these two are making without all the puzzle pieces....but I'll go with it.

This series has me kind of excited at its potential. You have a band of 4 intriguing brothers, a small town vibe (you know the one....gossipy, nosy town folk chattering at the local diner), a nicely laid out foundation and an author who clearly knows how to write a scorching hot sex scene.

Bought on Kindle; short and sexy. That's about all I can say about this one. He rode into town, straight into the arms of the girl he left behind 10 years ago. They do the deed on top of her desk, and she leaves. Later he finds out she has kept a BIG secret from him, he finds her again the same night, confronts her with the secret, she confesses, and this time they find a bed. The declare their love for one another. The End.

Note: Nothing different, same old.

2 ⭐⭐ - Meh!
==============

The hero leaves town and kicks the heroine to the curb ... returns home 10 years later ... the two meet, have sex and everything is fine! She became celibate raising their son alone while he fulfilled his professional dreams and had countless women. Same BS as usual.
The end.

PS: They changed the cover and I clicked the book again. Aff!

It had been ten years since he'd been home. Sure, he’d kept in touch with his brothers. They got together once a year for a vacation and again at Christmas. But always somewhere else.

But now that he was here he wanted nothing more than to turn around and head back to the airport.

He was here to face his demons. To face his past.

His brothers had told him Charlotte had packed up and left town just a couple of months after he had, and they didn't know where she'd gone.

"Charlotte?" he whispered, afraid he was hallucinating. "Well, if it isn't the Prodigal Son himself. You worthless son of a bitch."

She'd never gotten over him. He'd destroyed every youthful dream of love she'd ever had. And he'd left her with a child to raise on her own.

"I'd prefer to see you roasting over hot coals in hell, but I'll have to settle for never seeing you again. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get home."

Even though I wasn't expecting to see you in Surrender, I was hoping the whole way home that you would be here waiting for me."

He crushed his mouth to hers with a passion she never thought she'd feel again. His mouth was hot over hers, his tongue wild as it parted her lips and delved inside.

She tried not to think of the last woman who'd pleasured his body, or wonder exactly how long it had been, but it was hard to keep jealousy from rearing its ugly head.

"I don't think that's a good idea, Dane. I've got things to do, and I really think it's best if we chalk tonight up to insanity and go our separate ways. It was fun visiting memory lane, but that's all it can be. Tell your brothers hi for me."

Her heart couldn't bear any more pain. It had taken her ten years to build her life back up after he'd walked out.

It wasn't until she was in the shower, soaping away the evidence of Dane's passion, that she realized he could very well have left her in the same position he had last time. Alone and pregnant.

"Would it have made a difference?" Coop asked. "She was here ten years ago and you still left. I thought you were over her."

You put her through hell. I'm not sure you're making the best judgment call messing with her again. Maybe you should just leave her alone."

"How long do you plan to stay this time?" Thomas asked, his own anger coloring his question.
"I don't know.

"I need to make love to you again. I need it like I need to breathe,"

Tonight was Christmas Eve, the first one he’d spend at home in ten years, but he felt little joy in the season.

And she had the child growing inside of her that she’d kept to herself because she worried how Dane and Jayden would both react to the news.

Dammit, i need to do better research before starting new books...this is a novella. An erotic one. That means the H and h jump into the sack waaaay to fast and there's hardly any story...seriously, to some extent I wonder why they even other with a plot synopsis in books like these? While this author does a great job of tying up the story at the end, maybe only 10 % ( if that) of the story is actual...well, story.

It's sorta like watching a movie with someone who's already seen it, and fast forwards through just to get to the love scenes...you have no idea who the characters are, why they're together... You're pretty much a voyeur watching 2 strangers go at it. ( if that's your cuppa, enjoy :D)

I think what irritated me most was the characterization...what little there was...and this is sorta a spoiler, so I'll use the tags but oh yeah, and the heroine's kid, he's mentioned but never actually appears anywhere...and for a mother who's worried about protecting her kid, she lets this douche back into to their lives way to easily...

Okay, so I'll totally admit to a jaundiced perspective, but on the plus side, the sex scenes were well written..now if only they had some plot to go with em'!
2 stars.

It had potential, including (what could be) a great cast of characters for a full-sized series and some good writing, but over all it was too short. This was just a very short steamy novella. Much was left unsaid and unaddressed. BUT, since this was a teaser for a full series we may get those answers in later books.

This had so much potential, but was way too short. The author could have given us a bit more in the way of character development and it still would have been a nice little novella. What I did read however was very very steamy, I was insanely attracted to Dane and his brothers, but I wanted more!

Dane was the first book in the Mackenzie Family series by Liliana Hart. It was my first book by the author.

Ok wow, this was a short and quick read. I really liked both Dane and Charlie (Charlotte) and truly would have liked their full story. Dane was one of four brothers from the small town, Surrender, Montana. Dane had been gone for ten years and had left immediately after his mom died. He had been traveling the world as a journalist but decided to finally come home. His biggest regret was leaving the love of his life behind, but at eighteen, he wasn’t thinking maturely, and he had an entire decade behind him.

Dane was a second chance novella. It was uber short and sexy. It was written well for what it was, but way too short to be fully developed. Since it is offered for free, read it and enjoy it as it was intended, an introduction to the series. And based on this quick read, the series has a lot of promise!

Super short novella.

Dane deserts Charlotte without a word of farewell, following his mother’s death, in search of fame and glory...leaving behind a permanent reminder.

She leaves shortly thereafter to put distance and gives birth on her own. She returns after her father’s death to settle his affairs, six months ago.

Ten years later, Dane returns from his self-imposed exile for a visit, having established his career and sowed his oats. His car breaks down and he walks to a garage, Charlie’s.

Charlie tosses a tool at him, but later lacks self-control and within minutes they’re groping each other and engaging in unprotected sex.

She leaves him stranded and he has his brother fetch him like all good dogs. Based on revelations, he calculates that he is a father...and goes to her house, once again they have unprotected sex. Same night. No resistance whatsoever.

Someone needs to extinguish these two and their over-active glands. First night back, he declares his love, proposes, she accepts and ten years of desertion vanishes.

All is forgiven.

Dane and Charlotte,

You haven't seen each other in 10 years and not even 10 minutes after meeting again, without even discussing birth control or even having a STD conversation, you just jump on the bronco and ride not once but twice. Not even a rubber between the two of ya. Charlotte did you not remember what happened the last time you did that?? Evidently not. WOW Kids do not try this at home!

Too short! Too short! (63 pages) Plenty of potential, some really hot scenes, but could have used some more character development. If you really want to read how good it can be when Liliana Hart develops her story and characters, read Cade: A MacKenzie Novel. 3 1/2 stars.

What a yawn but I'm a sucker for a good cover and uploaded and read this before I checked the reviews and how many times have I promised myself never to read anything without checking the darn reviews first and I see now reviews are mixed. Never again.

Short but definitely not sweet by my definition.

I did like the writing style and clearly this is a short teaser into the series but for this reader I'm done. The only appeal? It was short and over in no time.

This was a very good short story. IT is an erotic romance with a nice storyline thrown in with it.

Dane is one of the four Mackenzie brothers and he has just come back to his hometown after being gone ten years. He has a history with a girl name Charlotte who he has never forgot while he was away. They reconnect when he returns and there is a "secret" she is hiding from him.
Considering how short the story was I thought the author did a wonderful job with making the story have "hot sex" as well as a convincing storyline. Also thrown in you got a brief taste of the other three brothers and the dynamics of their relationship with one another. My only complaint is that I wish this series was a full length novel because it for sure is worth the read!

Super HOT

I quite enjoyed this short story. I want MORE . But it was too short. There really isn't a plot just alot of hot sex and promises. Looking forward to the rest of the brothers in the series.

I enjoyed this, but it is really, really short. It's a quick, hot read, but not a lot of character or storyline development obviously due to the length.

Dane by Lilana Hart

Dane and Charlotte

HOT, LOVING, AND FAST!!!

Ok... for starters, those of you that gave this a bad review because it was "too short," pull your heads out of your %$!@#%'s... The first sentence of the synopsis says it's a Novella... don't know what it means??? look it up doofis people!!! Here it is: Short Novel: a fictional prose work that is longer than a short story but shorter than a novel... While it was short (a.k.a. novella) I found it full of wonderful, exciting stuff!!! If you read all the MacKenzie books, it's quite a story. Dane just happens to be the opener to a wonderful "novella" series!!!! I read all of them a long time ago, but never reviewed any of them... so I'm back to rereading and reviewing!!!

I was moved by this novella right from the start... I just know all the MacKenzie's are going to rock my world!!! This one is free so you've got nothing to lose by picking it up.. but trust me when I tell you... you're gonna want the rest of them... There's really not anything too dark in this one, but there is a few skeletons coming out of the closet that need to be dealt with!!

Dane and Charlotte really were great characters with an awesome history to build on. I loved all the sexual banter between them! I was glad to see the introduction of all the MacKenzie brothers! Can't wait to get to the rest of these Novellas!!!

The book was VERY fast paced and never left me hanging!! Moving onto Thomas's book... catch you all on the flipside of Surrender Montana!!!

5 stars!

This book was not the best. The plot was just wrong and the characters you can barley relate and you don't learn about them. So Dane and Charlotte dated ten years ago and then Danes mother died and he decides to leave. Charlotte overwhelmed by the heartache of missing Dane moves to Chicago and has his baby Jayden which Dane doesn't know exists. So ten years after this Dane moves back to town to find that Charlotte has been back in town as well for the past six months. She seems pissed but then fucks him on a desk. In the details it says that she doesn't want a thing to do with him PUH-LEASE. All she did was say ok I'm going home now great sex bye. And then he goes to the bar with his brothers where he learns about Jayden. There is a tiny fight which is apparently why he got his bad-boy name. Um NO! He is so harmless. He then goes over to Charlottes house and fucks her 4 times and then proposes an says he loves her (for the billionth time). She says yes and then in the chapter they give you of the next book which I definitely will NOT read it says they got Mattie and are happy.
So this book sucked she should have made him work for it the author did a horrible job with this book you know absolutely nothing about Jayden and very little about Charlotte and Danes past.
2 stars and if you read all of this you don't need to read this because well this is all that happens.

Dane left from his home 10 years ago.Along with leaving his brothers in order to make something of himself,he left his girlfriend(and his one love) Charlie. When he returns back,he doesn't expect to find Charlie after having been told she left 10 years ago too. When these two see each other, memories come back and they are reminded as to why they loved each other so much. When a HUGE secret is revealed, everyone's lives change and Charlie is left with a decision to make. But can she really let this man into her life again?will she?

I was going to go on a short trip so I started downloading a few short stories onto my kindle.Dane was the last one on my list and almost didn't read it because I really disliked all the other short stories I had chosen.Boy,am I glad I read it!This is exactly what I was looking for.Short story, but with an ACTUAL story line.Hot and Steamy, but still had love and romance in it. I loved this book's story line and it left me craving for more(Though I do wish this short story was turned into a novel.I would love to read more about Dane and his new life) .I will most def be getting the rest of the Mackenzie book series!

Argh, I held off writing a review of these books as the first five or six are just novellas/short stories and I wanted to see how they panned out.

Ms Hart is a bit like one of those chefs who don't have the courage of their convictions and so keep adding their favourite ingredients to different recipes so that they all kind of end up tasting pretty much the same.

She has a man and a woman, either estranged (unknown teenage pregnancy in this case) or loving from afar, or meeting under suspicious circumstances.

She slants it as a mystery/suspense ( in this case the existence of a son, Dane knew nothing about).

Then she thinks, he has to be an Alpha (in most cases they are more Alpholes!) so she makes him ex-Marine, ex-SEAL, FBI, local sheriff (we did get a doctor once).

Then she inevitably makes him a Dom – honestly if I were with a man who found it acceptable that I should pass out during sex I would have myself sectioned! She also has an anal fixation.

I suppose what I am saying is that the mystery/suspense stories and the back-stories are different but they all have the same formulaic sex and same formulaic Alpholes.

Lately I've been in the mood to read short, hot stories so that's the only reason I downloaded this freebie.

All I can say is that the sex was hot. There was an attempt to create a story with a secret baby plot - which was dreadful - but there was no way you could really believe this two people were still in love with such flimsy evidence. It would have been better if it had been left at 'we'll continue to have sex and see how it goes' instead of trying to tie everything with a bow.

So if you are in the mood to read something a steamy short, this could fit the bill, just don't expect the 'conflict' to make much sense.

I got this as a freebie from Amazon, thank goodness I didn't purchase it. The story was very trite about Dane who came back to his hometown after ten years and surprised to found out that he has indeed fathered a child with his longtime girlfriend, Charlotte. So he tried to convince her to give them a chance on being a family.

My say is -been there, seen it, done it and had a Hot cover to prove it. I am not very impressed with the story. Apart from the Hot cover there really was nothing special about the book.

Short story. 24 pages.

10 years ago Dane left Charlotte to start a life without her, the only problem is she was pregnant. Now he wants back in her life and to get to know the son he didn't know he had. A little too sugary sweet for me and things speed along super fast. But then it is a short story so the author has to jam in a lot. Maybe if the story were longer, I would have liked it more.

This itty-bitty story, the first in the MacKenzie Brothers Quartet series, does exactly what it intends to do. It arouses and ravishes. But wait! There's more. If you buy now, you get a sweet little story to go along with the sex-ery. Seriously, this short story is a real pleasure and LH's writing is so crisp, she's won a new fan. I'll be reading more from this author.

This had potential. Unfortunately it didn't deliver. Both characters acted immature and it feature a secret baby plot. I don't mind those as long as they're done well, but her reasons for keeping the baby from him were selfish. Plus, the baby in question is 10 now.

I liked her writing, however, so I may try another book in the series.

I have to say I really enjoyed this and will definitely continue this series.

Though it was very short I got a good feel for the characters and the love scenes were pretty hot.

This, IMO, is what a novella should be, a teaser of things and characters to come and a chance for the author to show us what they are capable of & what we can expect from them if we decide to read more by them.

3.25 stars. This book could have been one of the greats...if it wasn't so short. The story was literally meet, intimate moments, confrontation, more intimate moments lol. I wish we had gotten a full story because if feels too short. However, I really loved the premise behind the book. I just wish there was more :-/
