When Karma Comes Knocking...

Rate this book
I never intended to meet him looking like this, tired, muddy, wet, and messy. I never intended to meet him at all, but here he was laughing his ass off at my miserable state. My first spoken words to him were nasty and reflected poorly on me. But he wasn’t much better, laughing at another’s misfortune. By the time I learned the reason behind his strange laugh, he had given me a glimpse of his true self, and I could only hope I would prove myself worthy of his love.

Dear Author,
“I cannot believe how badly my day has gone what with the rain and the mud. To top off this craptastic day, my roommate invited some friends over. The guy I have been crushing on took one look at me and laughed his pretty ass off. I really want this day to be over.”
This poor boy. Do you think you can make his day better?

Photo Description:
A well-built young man with longish brown hair stares sideways at the viewer. His hair is wet and hanging over his eyes. His face and naked chest are splattered with mud. He does not look happy, in fact he looks furious.

This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Love Has No Boundaries" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

This is another story from the wonderful LHNB event.
The picture prompt was sexy, it's of a good looking guy, looking very dirty and very mad.

It starts out really funny, Ray the narrator is having a bad day, like drops expensive wine in front a bunch of strangers in his apartment, while he's wet, shirtless and dirty, and just to top it all of he breaks his arm.
Fun is had by all..not! :)
Winston has been crushing on Ray and vice versa, but it doesn't seem like it's going to happen now. See, when Ray came in and dropped all his stuff, Winston laughed at him...Ray was not amused.
They do get over that bump in the road and start to get to know each other.
I did like Winston's profession and how it was all *weaved into the story. ( *my lame attempt at humor)
The story then changes a bit and becomes more serious and darker as we find out more of Winston's past and another woman's situation in the story.
The scene near the end with the dad, I'm still not sure about, can't decide if I loved it and finally Ray is what he is always thinking about himself as or not..

I was a little surprised that Ray had NO clue who Winston really was? I mean he had his whole name...that seemed a little unlikely, but then so did some of the other stuff, so I just decided to say oh whatever, I'll go with it and just enjoy.
There is a lot going on in this short, I found it entertaining and interesting.
The end is then sweet and cute and HEA.

FINALLY, A FIVE STAR READ. Don't miss this one. It was a complete surprise. A very good, five star surprise. This one had the things that are must haves to make it a five star read for me. I'm not going to tell you anything about the story. I am going to tell you it made me laugh; made me cry and then I had happy grin and sigh.

Humorous story for the most part, although it has some serious themes (rape,PTSD)crop up. Mostly it details the mishaps and thoughts of the narrator, beginning as his bad day gets worse and he has a disastorous first encounter with the man of his fantasies. And the path of love is definitely not smooth from there. What really makes this story great in the first-person voice of the narrator. His thought processes and some of the things he thinks and observations he makes are hilarious. I laughed a lot reading this. Very creative and (I hate to say cute, let me think of another word) enjoyable story, with great use some popular cartoon characters. I will definitely be rereading this one when I need a little mood boost or laugh after a serious day.

Breathless chain of consciousness narration. Almost likeable but for me a bit too much. I didn't get the superhero theme, rather thought the gun at the end was security not a threat. Winston has to apologise for laughing but our narrator whatever his name is gets to act a complete jerk and be the hero. But it's OK because he's read up and donated money. I still thought him an immature jerk.

Oh God, this left me smiling. This is one of the best I've read so far.
Right amount of loveliness, drama, a lot of fun, smexy times and great friends/family. I love this type of stories.
Ray's voice is just adorable. Tigger and Pooh the papa. Man.

I loved this! It may be that Winnie the Pooh was my favorite cartoon character growing up, but I adored all of the references to him and Tigger here, and honestly laughed out loud several times. Adorable.

What I loved about this story, though, is that in the midst of making me laugh and entertaining me with an engaging narrator and an endearing romance was that it addressed some deeper issues. Winston was a fascinating character, and I appreciated the slowness with which we, along with the narrator, got to know him and understand his background.

I can't help but wish that Ray would have brought up the family thing before the picnic, or that they'd have had a chance to talk about things at SOME point... I agree that the pace got a little frantic there at the end.

Still, a lovely, lovely story. Will definitely be on my comfort-reads list.

A LHNB Story 2.75 Stars This had lots of nice humor with some Pooh Bear references. The pace was a little jumpy as the story went from one idea to the next. I wished it had stayed focused on a couple of things like the reasons why Winston was so shy. By the time we get the big reveal on that we don't get to see the emotional confrontation between Ray and Winston and instead they have to deal with some other crisis. Too many storylines for such a short story. In this case, less is more.

It started out funny but then the story lines got into the way of the actual conflict.
SPOILER ahead: I'd once like to see a story where the poor guy just got intimidated by learning the one he loves is actually rich and not jumping to the unreasonable conclusion, that the rich guy is just playing with him. It seems to me to be such a forced conflict, especially when poor guy has absolutely no reason to think so, rather the opposite.

This was fantastic! I really enjoyed this story and omg, Ray is just the best! I loved his narration though this story, there were some very funny lines. The first person POV was great for this story, and I really enjoyed reading this one from start to finish. I especially loved all the Winnie the Pooh nicknames and references, so cute!

Just a shade under 4 stars
A nicely written story with a well balanced mixture of drama and humour from the narrator. The wrap up to the HEA was rather quickly pushed through after the slow development of the start of the story

For the most part, this was a very sweet, charming, and heartwarming story. It is both well written and well edited. There were some dark themes but it was nice to see love rise from tragedy. The only real issues I have with it is Ray’s constant rehashing of Winton laughing at him (get over it!) and Ray’s over-the-top reaction to who Winston and his family are (get over it!)

I didn’t think it was just part of a bad day to hear your arm bone snap. The intrusive friends laughing at his appearance and the busted wine bottles was not affection or friendly. Passion and depth was sacrificed for too much exposition in the writing.

I found both the MC and the writing style annoying and the ending was too much.

I was kind of on the fence on this one.... There was a lot going on at all times; I feel like Ray's attitude over Winston laughing at him was a bit much and then the way he treated him after was kind of ridiculous... I didn't notice Winston being shy at all, even though Ray mentioned his flinching a time or two and the story behind it and the connection between Winston and Sally.... I dunno, it was just a lot...
The story itself was cute... the dialogue was cheesey at times but I thought Winston was cute... Ray's internal dialogue was funny and cute at times and it helped make up for the fact that despite having a big ol crush on Winston he treated him poorly in the beginning...
Overall, it was a cute little read with a cute ending.

2nd re-read.

Dropping my rating from 4 stars to 3 because half way through I started skimming. There was too much telling that it got tiring and with my book funk it is not conducive for me to read something from start to finish.

And if I wasn't feeling it before Ray losing it when he learnt who Winston is, would have done it. Nvm the whole heroics thing....

Another thing Winston's name is mentioned 142 times, Ray's name is mentioned 27 times. Yes the story is entirely(?) through his POV but we almost didn't know his name.

rereading again and still a wonderful fun read. Ray was pretty much funny guy, i really loved him but poor guy is having a bad day first it started as an raining day got mud on him comes into his apartment and then laughing happens and then he falls literally falls breaks his arm. And then he falls in love with winston the guy who laughed at him. It really was innocent laugh. It started out funny then we had abit of a past abuse but all in all i loved both guys they we sweet.

I love this story and not just because it was written from my prompt. The first-person pov is done really well. The internal dialog of our hero is very funny.
Our hero does have a couple of really bad days, but manages to find the humor in most things and those he cannot find the humor in, he tries to make better.
Thank you Junjur for the story!

Another sweet little Love Has No Boundaries story.

I felt at points that the author was trying a bit too hard to make the men masculine. I liked the geekiness and the Pooh theme. The violence almost felt superfluous. A man meets the love of his life on the worst day in his life... it's cute. But he ends up seeming a bit of a disaster and not the best boyfriend either. Still enjoyed it.

Love the components and the heart felt emotions behind the story--LOVE Tigger and Pooh, but the pace was so frantic at one point that I felt like both characters needed Ritalin as we jumped from one thought to the next.

– Ray’s been admiring Winston from afar but when he finally runs into him he’s covered in dirt and then proceeds to fall and break his arm. The build of the relationship is sweet but then it gets sort of unbelievable.

Very smaltzy in the end. Sweet, but maybe a bit too far on the innocence. Definitely a bit too much on the action elements.

[NOTE: I rate most writing event stories (free reads) 4 or 5 stars because of my appreciation of the author's participation.]

2.75 stars. This story is sugary, saccharine sweet. Not my favorite, but cute none the less.
