From the time she was a small girl, Alice Graves has been groomed to be a vampire slayer. While other children learned to jump rope and recite their ABCs, Alice was schooled in the arts of staking, bloodletting, and decapitation.
It's a good thing, too, since she's just followed a giant vampire down a rabbit-hole, only to find herself plunged into a strange world ruled by an evil Blood Queen.
Welcome to Alice's Vampire Wonderland, where nothing is what it seems and all of her slayer's skills will be put to the test if she's to survive the treacherous hours between dusk and dawn.
Since I decided to read this book, I knew that it won't be any literature wonder (pun intended) but I didn't regret my decision.
Indeed it wasn0t any reading masterpiece, but enjoyable enough.
It was a quick fun reading.
The story gave me just what I was expecting, a retelling of the classic Alice in Wonderland but with a vampire oriented angle.
I think that the author did a fair job merging the original storyline with the new vampire approach.
CURIOUSER AND BLOODIER
Something that I quite enjoyed is that here, the Cheshire Cat got a status way over the Caterpillar.
I don't hate the Caterpillar but I always liked better the Cheshire Cat.
And lately in various retellings like Zenescope's Wonderland and Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, I felt that the Caterpillar was presented more powerful and/or wiser.
But here, in this retelling, the Cheshire Cat seems without a doubt with more experience than the Caterpillar.
However, I would expected a little more of character development on Alice, taking in account that she is definitely not the regular Alice that you may being acquainted. Oh, you get the whole picture of how was her life since she was younger (in the story she is 16 years old) and how her family has a long line of slayers.
In that, the author not only got elements from Alice in Wonderland as the core setting but also got elements from Buffy, the Vampire Slayer stating that Alice thinks that only women can be slayers.
Still, a little more to define a tridimentional character could be appreciated and not just being the basically expected result from merging "Wonderland's Alice" with "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer".
You will get some twists and surprises, especially on the climax of the plot. (Easy, no spoiler! Hehehe)
So, while it's not a spectacular book, if you are fan of "Wonderland" related stuff and/or vampire related stuff, well, this an acceptable option, after all, you only invest like 2 hours at most to read it.
My daughter let me read this book and I was pleasantly surprised. This is an Alice in Wonderland meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer type of mix and it is interesting. You have the classical feel of Alice in Wonderland and the all popular Vampire Slayer setting all rolled into one book that you just can not seem to put down. Excellent book - you should definitely give it a read :)
I tried to finish it, but I got really bored. I admit I'm not a big fan of the original story, but I still like it. And most of the retelling I've read were from good to great. This one was unoriginal and simply boring. It was just a rewritten version of Caroll's tale. Take some elements and replace them with vampires - that's how it was written.
Pacing is definitely reminiscent of the original Alice: In Wonderland. Some of the original “Alice” characters are present, though not all. Alice herself is definitely more capable than the original, I’m sure the age difference helped that, among other things. Pretty interesting. Wasn’t overly fond of the way vampires work… a certain “vein” thing had me rolling my eyes when it was finally completely explained. But yeah, other than that, this was a quick, mostly enjoyable read.
As indicated by the title, Alice in Wonderland: The Vampire Slayer by J. J. Maddox and Lewis Carroll is a retelling of Alice in Wonderland set in a world in which vampires are real. Alice's profession is vampire slaying, and she ventures to Wonderland in order to destroy the Blood Queen hoping to put an end to the vampire war once and for all. This short story was an ok read, but I don't think I'd have any interest in reading it again, and I'm not entirely sure I'd recommend it. For those that are curious, it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to read it though. For the most part, the story seemed to stick fairly close to events from the original tale with details changed here and there up until the end. When reading this story, I got the feeling like I was reading fanfiction, which I suppose it essentially is, but it also had more of an amateurish feel to it. There were also a few errors here and there in the text, which would be much easier to overlook if this was a free piece of fanfiction posted online rather than a published work. I really don't think that this short story is worth the price it is being sold for on Amazon.com, so if you really want to read it, I'd suggest waiting for when it goes on sale for free like I did. This short story is also labeled as being the first in the Vampire Wonderland series. I have no plans to read any additional stories in this series unless I can pick them up for free like I did with the first one.
I picked this up as I liked the cover and the title of the book. Lewis Carroll is to be recommended for giving his beloved book a twist.
When I started reading it, it took me back to when I used to read Alice in Wonderland as a little girl. I loved the twist with Alice being a Vampire Slayer. It didn't take me long to read the book particularly as I had a way of reminiscing the olden days of reading the story.
I would recommend this for people who remember Alice in Wonderland and who love Vampires.
I saw this book on the Kindle Free list and considering it deals with Alice in Wonderland and a vampire slayer I had to read it. I'm looking forward to more works by this indie author. It was a nice blend between two worlds and I couldn't put it down until I finished. It was a short read, but it was entertaining nonetheless.
Alice iwn wonderland step by step but now alice is after the big bad vampire instead the white rabbit. it seems interesting but its so not. One of the worst books i have ever read. did i mention i didnt finished it???
This is a short story, kind of Buffy:the Vampire Slayer meets Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Luckily it was short, because it jumped around in the story and I really couldn't get into it.
