Beautiful Monterey's usually where people go to escape their troubles.
Not this time.
FBI Special Agent Max Harris has followed the vigilante Gabriel's bloody crusade from Seattle to Monterey, where his investigation crashes right into fellow Agent Jon Stevens. A ritualistic killer has left three bodies for Stevens to find, each one a kind of message. It's all a game to someone, and Stevens knows he's losing.
Meanwhile, Jake Martin is now singing with Jimi Christian's band, making dubious alliances and skirting the law as they plan an event that will rock the world.
The secret tying them all together is converging on Monterey. And it just may dye the beaches red.
"The Singer" is the explosive second book in the Rock Series Trilogy.
'The Singer' is the fast paced, action-packed, horror-drenched follow up to 'The Rock Star'.
This is an awesome follow up novel, even more thrilling, horrifying and entertaining than book no 1. The only real complaint I had with the first book was the number of characters, but now they are crossing paths and everything's really coming together very nicely. I love Mischka, she's a great strong female character and a lot of fun to read about. The twins are spooky and intriguing, and all of the others are interesting in their own different ways too.
The chapters are fairly short, which adds to the fast pace of the book and certainly kept me turning pages. The action is almost constant, though there are some nice moments between this where I felt like I got to know some of the characters a bit better. There are also several chillingly vivid, and quite gruesome, scenes of horror.
The tension is building up very nicely. I found it a nail-biting read, particularly when it got close the end because I was dying to find out what was going to happen at the big concert! I knew it wasn't going to be in this book, it's obvious as there's a third book still to come, but the build up was just so suspenseful and I really cannot wait to see how it all ends.
This is an extremely entertaining and suspenseful novel. I would recommend to anyone who likes action, horror, or thrillers.
This is my book, which is the follow up to The Rock Star and carries out the story lines that were started there. Bodies are found, Monterey County Sheriff Ken Dalton is working with FBI Agent Jon Stevens on the investigation, but are coming up cold. Meanwhile Gabriel is leading FBI Agent Max Harris to Monterey. While The Russians are working with the Band and The Hacker to pull off the Concert. Story lines start to converge in explosive and bloody ways, with more twists, turns, and surprises that will keep you guessing. I thought it was great fun as I was writing it, and I really hope you enjoy it.
This is the second book in the trilogy but you do not need to have read the first one to follow the characters as they develop through these story lines. The action keeps moving on all fronts and I can not wait to read the final book to find out all the "Who dun its" Rick Soper In compliance with FTC guidelines, I disclose that I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
The fact that this is a middle book is apparent from the outset, but The Empire Strikes Back was also a middle film and some call it the best of the all the Star Wars films, so don't hold that middle book thing against this one because it's a pretty good book. The Rock Star started a whole lot of story lines with a whole lot of characters, so there are a whole lot of balls up in the air as this one starts, and Soper hit's the ground running from the gruesome death that happens in chapter one. Soper doesn't stop there he keeps pushing forth with the action till it hit's its peak with what I will call the "Aleksei Moment" which is both surprising and satisfying. There are some story lines that end in this book, but there are still others to be resolved in the third and final book of the Rock Series called The Stage, which after the first two books, I'm really looking forward to. I would highly recommend this book if you enjoy thrillers, but caution you that there are some pretty intense scenes in it.
4 stars again for grammatical/editing errors. This is definitely not a stand alone - you need to have read The Rock Star first, and if you have read this far, you will want to have The Stage ready to go. It is, at least at the time of this writing, available on Kindle Unlimited, which is a big plus for me. I had had the first part on my Kindle for quite some time, not realizing the three books told one story. I see it is all available as a "box set" now, and I would highly recommend purchasing it that way if you are not a KU user. Picks up directly where The Rock Star leaves off, and pulls some of the side stories together more, but the climax does not come in this book. I am still mystified enough to keep reading, even though it verges on too convoluted at times.

It was a book that had too many characters to follow very early in the book. I had a hard time knowing how each character related because of the jumping around in the very short chapters. With it having so many russian names it made it harder to remember who was who. i'm sure it could have been a better book but it was just to jumping from thought to thought to often.
The plot thickens as the characters from "the Rock Star" are fleshed out with better definition. Certainly the stage is set for "the Stage", the next book in the series.
