Addie Myra Campbell had been in love with her betrothed from her cradle. They were to be wed when she came of age. However, it would seem, Conall Barra MacLaren had no interest in her, until she turned of age. He begins to woo her and eventually wins her heart. Unfortunately, tragedy strikes, cursing, Conall, into the walls of her home, and leaving Addie no choice, but to fling herself from her attic window!
Conall has been imprisoned within Addie’s home for centuries, reliving the fate filled night she fell from the window, as he was imprisoned by the demon, McIntosh. Just when he was about to give up hope, his Addie comes back to him. He thinks she is surely here to lift his curse, and bring him pleasure during his walking hour of mid-night.
They meet and start an affair that cannot be matched by time or place. However, secrets accumulate and threaten their destiny. Addie wants to free her Highlander, but at what cost?
Will true love conquer all? Or will witch craft, Warlocks, Spells, Ghosts, Demons, and Time keep them apart?
Aubrey Brown was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has had a passion for writing for as long as she can remember. The first book she read, outside of a school assignment, was a pilfered romance from her mother’s collection. And she has been addicted to the written word ever since. She is married to her high school sweetheart and has one incredible son. She started writing to tell fabulous stories to those who want to read something different from the average erotica. She is a firm believer there is a happily ever after for anyone who has the courage and conviction to reach for it.
Cursed is a must read. It is such a lovely story. I read through it in one sitting, Aubrey’s words are so addictive. This book really touched my heart. I love happy endings, but I especially love reincarnation stories. Conall MacLaren has been cursed for a very long time, trapped in a nightmare inside a house, reliving the worst moment of his life, when his beloved threw herself out a window after discovering he had betrayed her. But, that was far from the truth and he was still cursed.
When Addie Campbell finds out she is the sole heir of some land in Scotland, she leaps at the chance to discover more about her heritage. Leaving her old life behind, including a jerk of an ex-boyfriend and numerous pressures, she immerses herself in her new house, in the culture and finding out the secrets buried there. Addie learns of the tragic lovers’ story, and to her surprise, comes across Conall MacLaren in the flesh. I won’t give any more details. But, the passion between them is very hot, and Addie learns a lot about herself as she works to free Conall from his cursed existence.
You just have to read this beautiful story! Aubrey Brown is a wicked artist with her words. This is a timeless love story.
I received a copy of this story for an honest review for Paranormal Romance & Author's That Rock.
There’s just something I dig about a story featuring lovers so destined to be together that even death can’t keep them parted forever. “Cursed” is a fast-paced, solid paranormal romance that spans the centuries and features lovers Addie and Conall, definitely a pair deserving their own HEA.
The story opens in 1825 at Campbell Manor, Scotland 1825. Highlander Conall Barra MacLaren has struggled against the idea of an arranged marriage to Addie Myra Campbell for years. Just as the two connect and begin to truly fall for each other, Addie’s best friend Beatrice accuses Conall of fathering her unborn child. This ignites the wrath of Beatrice’s wicked father McIntosh who uses his dark magic to strike out at innocent Conall. Distraught at the loss of her lover Addie stumbles, or is pushed, to her own tragic death.
“As the wind rushed through her hair, she swore she saw Conall by her side, screaming for her. It was fanciful, for he was gone, and so was she.”
The story then jumps to modern time and finds American Addie Renee Campbell arriving at Campbell Manor. A deceased relative has left the Manor to Addie and after finding her cheating fiancé in bed with her so-called best friend, Addie jumped at the chance to get away.
“It would seem the whole Campbell family befell one tragedy or another. It was as if since the original Addie’s death, a curse had been placed upon the family. No daughters were born, only a few sons, and it was a stretch, as to whether or not they survived their first year. It was such a sad state and tragedy.”
Little does the Manor’s new owner know that when she inherited the building she also inherited the ghost of Conall. Cursed by McIntosh to spend eternity within the walls of where he was killed, Conall is made flesh for only one hour every night at midnight and cannot venture beyond the Manor’s attic. When he spots modern-day Addie exploring the Manor he sees in her the opportunity to regain his lost love and potentially his freedom.
“She looked of Addie. Her hair even smelled of Addie. She had to be his Addie. A just God would not have placed him in such a state between the spiritual and mortal world for so many years to deny him a second chance.”
I won’t give away any more of the story for fear of spoilers but I will say that “Cursed” really moves. It was such a fun read that once I got into the story I had a hard time putting it down. Modern day Addie is very spunky and I loved her tiny struggle accepting how quickly she fell in love with a ghost. But with a ghost as hot as Conall, who can blame her? Dear lord, author Aubrey Brown has crafted one helluva sexy Scot in Conall. I’m thinking a lot of readers would be happy to have him haunt their attic any day.
I highly recommend picking up “Cursed.” I’ll be checking out what other stories Aubrey Brown has to offer.

Cursed is a touching, romantic and magical story about soul mates and their unbreakable bond. Love and the belief in it, conquers all! My only real complaint about this story is some of the dialect ruined the flow of it. I had to pause many times to figure out exactly what was being said. Otherwise it's a great read that many fans of the genre will enjoy their time spent with :)
I loved the book, It was so sweet and unexpected. It did need a little editing but other than that it was fantastic and I love me some Conall! It sucked me in til the very end. And the twist actually caught me off guard.
