Hoyle Templeton has just found love again. A carpenter in the mountains of North Carolina, he is caught off guard by the attention paid to him by an attractive, newly divorced woman. But his future happiness is put in jeapordy when his daughter turns to him for help to kick a drug habit and escape a violent, psychotic boyfriend. Injured in a deadly shooting, he is ultimately forced to confront his past failings as a father and choose between his own desires and his daughter's wellbeing.
I just read this book for the second time and found it as powerful as the first time. It is a book about a father's unconditional love for a troubled daughter, sacrifice, and redemption. The author has a gift of placing the reader there, with all the sights, smells, and emotions of the characters.
