We all have skeletons in our closets.

Doctor Erin Novak was only sixteen when she was accused of a crime she didn't commit. Since that moment, she has made it her life goal to pursue emergency medicine, pouring her heart and soul into assuring another innocent life isn’t lost to the hands of the wicked.

We all have secrets we've never shared.

Detective Adam Trent has lost control of everything, starting with losing his partner to a punk with a gun and then everything else to the crushing guilt. Now a member of the elite Auto Theft Task Force in Philadelphia, it's his job to be one step ahead of the criminals stealing expensive cars in the city. Too bad the television cameras keep getting in the way of his investigation.

We all have pasts that we can never escape.

A stolen car, a tragic chase, and a traffic stop crosses the fates of these two, tying them together in ways that are unimaginable. As their love and trust grows, so do the enemies that threaten their survival, testing the strength of their commitment. Can true love endure half-truths, past pains, and secrets never meant to be shared?

Some things are just out of our control.

Out of all the books on my bookshelves, this is one of them. I remember when Tina Reber was writing this book because I have a good memory. I also have good taste in books. This one tastes like paper, but if you read it, you'll like it.

DNF at 10%

I loved the Love series and I adore this classy author but unfortunately this book was not for me. I couldn't move past the 10% mark after several hours of reading and so I decided it was time to throw in the towel. There is an insane amount of insta-lust going on in this first portion and though I'm not a fan of that, normally I can suck it up and move forward.

However, the way the hero and heroine meet makes their attraction look out of place and it just really bugged me.

This is probably just the case of me being picky and such, but after attempting to read this book 4 times since yesterday afternoon and not being able to move on past the 10% mark, I'm out.

ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Sparks fly when Adam, a police officer with the Auto Theft Task Force, pulls Dr. Erin Novak over one night, mistakenly believing that she was driving a stolen vehicle. Erin is having one of the worst nights of her life already, so being cuffed and frisked on the side of the road is just par for the course. The only thing that could make it worse is if the video footage of her being arrested is shown on TV. She's worked too hard to have her reputation ruined by some misleading video footage.

After Adam figures out that Erin was an oblivious pawn, having her car plates switched at the hospital while she was inside working without her knowledge, he feels bad for being such a jerk. He likes the sexy Doctor and is determined to make up for his initial impression. He gets his chance, as fate has their paths repeatedly crossing again over the next few weeks.

What follows is a flirtatious, back and forth, on and then off again relationship. These two had so much baggage that it was painful at times. They each kept pushing each other away, only to turn around and do it all over again. It was tedious.

While I did eventually come to like the couple, it was a long time coming. This book just dragged on and on for me. There was a lot of time spent discussing boring, unnecessary, details of Adam's criminal investigations and Erin's workdays at the hospital. I just couldn't bring myself to care.

All in all, it was an "okay" story. It definitely wasn't a favorite of mine, but I know I'm in the minority there. I was honestly a little disappointed because I'd had this book waiting for me on my Audible shelf for quite some time and I kept looking at the cover thinking that it would be a super sexy read. It had a few notable sexy scenes, but overall fell kind of flat for me. I think I would have liked it a lot more if it had been about half the length.

For anyone who has read Tina Reber's Love Unscripted series knows how she takes her time with her characters building up their relationship slowly, what I like to call a slow burn. Jacked is no different and for me not a short read took me a week to read it.

Doctor Erin Novack is having the night from hell and on her way home she is stopped by Detective Adam Trent and his ATTF team under extreme circumstances even though they are both attracted to each other they do nothing about it. Then as days go by they start seeing more of each other through work and then after work for breakfast dates. They become a couple but Adam is keeping something from Erin that will tear them apart when she finds out. What has the future got in store for Erin and Adam and can they survive everything thrown at them?

Jacked has everything you need for a great read, strong characters, funny sexy banter with cute nicknames, plenty of sexy steamy moments, lots of emotional heart wrenching moments, laughs and enough suspense to keep you on the edge.

Looking forward to Amped Jason and Kate's story the second book in the Trent Brothers series in the future.

OTHER WOMEN

Let me preface by saying there's no cheating in this book. That said...

description

Nikki, his long-term ex, was mentioned 91 times .

"But Erin was Nikki's polar opposite."

And it goes on and on and on throughout the book.

At 44%, he is still saying shit like...

" In all the time I was with Nikki I never felt this attracted to her like I did with the woman in my presence right now."

At 51%... Yep, we are still on Nikki...

"Nikki hated cuddling."

And, at 73%, more Nikki...

"I probably let Nikki down a lot when we were together, but she never gave me a reason to care."

If he's not comparing every move Erin makes to Nikki, then he's back peddling to tell us about his and Nikki's horrible relationship or what he specifically hated about the chick. That's just TMI.

And it's not just Nikki....

description

" Last girl I told that to lurched over the table, pawing at me with such fangirl exuberance to find out dirty details, I was afraid, not to mention instantly turned off by it. But not Erin. She had class. "

description

All the OW talk and comparisons were always to show favoritism to the FMC,and such can be endearing in a 'she's so special' kinda way when it's done in small doses. But, here we have TMI being delivered way too often.

I personally didn't want to think about various random past women in his life every 30 seconds for over 3/4 of the book. Safety gang friends beware~

Other Men

description

The author went for gold with OW/OM TMI.

It's a similar TMI problem with her. She has an ex that works with her. She seesaws between reminiscing 'what ifs,' regret, and hate in the first 1/4 of the book, even after she meets the MMC.

She has a fuck buddy that she calls up for a one night stand after the MMC goes radio silent for a week after their initial couple of dates. She doesn't actually get to go through with it because someone dies and sends her on a bender. Still, she would've if not for the death...

description

Her thoughts continue with the OM reminders all while they first have sex at 47%...

"I hadn't been with someone in a while."

"He probably had a hell of a lot more lovers than I did..."

"I'd had other lovers before but none of them compared to what I was feeling for Adam."

"I'd had plenty of just sex over the years with a few select men who made me feel more like a receptacle than a counterpart."

^^^ and those were just the gems during ONE sex scene.

Secrets

description

There are a lot of secret skeletons in the closet here for both MCs.

The 'secrets' plot line(s) were all well done in how they unfold into the story. They're meaningful and understandable hang-ups.

The details and reactions, however, are a little lacking. Ehh, too easily solved considering how long each took to be told.

I found his reaction to the first secret she shares, for example, a bit unbelievable. He insists it's not her fault, an unbelievable stance considering his own battles with alcohol and his own experience as a cop. Forgiveness? Of course! SPOILER >>>
but for a cop and alcoholic to INSIST that a 21-year-old adult wasn't at fault for giving her underage sister alcohol and the resulting wreck that followed is just not believable.

And then the incident isn't mentioned again..: I was like, okay, I thought this was a big deal and now one talk erases it from thought?!? Io okay.

Kink

description

Shibari... Never heard of it. Kudos for a unique subplot.

Time Line Issue

description

Even after three years , Nikki never got me.

He and Nikki broke up
"last summer"

"... the night Nikki's cop father brought me home butt-ass naked."

"When I was seventeen, senior year of high school, I took the girl I was dating out to the lake ..." "Chief cuffed me butt-ass naked, tossed me in the back of the squad car....." "Guess he was pretty pissed I was caught defiling his daughter..."

"Damn, thirty-two-years-old."

Now... How exactly did our 32-yr-old MMC have a 3 year relationship when he mentions being with her 15 years ago in HIGH SCHOOL, too?

Perfect Woman?

description

The FMC is smart, funny, and can be kinda ballsey when need be. She's not particularly annoying most of the time, but when she is annoying, it's bad.

She's very confident in everything except her relationships. She is full of self-doubt, low self-esteem, angst, distrust, and assumptions when it comes to her relationship with the MMC.

It's a highly annoying character trait, and it's particularly frustrating because the MMC has monologue after monologue about how his ex lacked ambition, empathy, toughness, understanding, respect, etc etc etc... Particularly concerning his job as a cop.

We have to hear on repeat how perfect the FMC is for him.

Yet, when his job touches her life through no fault on his part, she runs and refuses to talk to or see him for weeks.

&

At 88%, we have this scene...

"What footage is that?"

I paused the video. "Uh, sweetheart, no offense, but I can't really discuss that with you."

Erin tried to pull away; I felt like a huge asshole.

"Doc, it's part of an ongoing investigation. I can't..." She slipped out of my hand and walked away, shutting me out.

"It's okay. I shouldn't be discussing any of my patient cases with you either." She set a dirty pan in the sink. "No matter what we do.. I guess we have no choice but to live in secrets anyway."

FUCK. I was able to hurt without even trying. Her shoulders fell- instant defeat.

"I don't want that."

" Neither do I."

"Erin... Please come here."

She ignored me for a few beats, pretending to be busy washing a plate.

"Baby. Please."

I tucked her between my legs, rested her on my thigh, and clicked the arrow to play.

She cuts and runs at trouble & can't understand that she can't watch a fucking police investigation video?!? Ehh.

I'd also say that the 'oh, no baby is mad because she can't watch my investigation tape persona that the MMC adopts and all the chasing he does of her is a far cry from the alpha male this guy started this book as. I'm all about softening, but the author basically put his balls in a frilly pink purse with kitties and rainbows as she handed em to the FMC.

description

Just saying~

Otherwise, Did I Hate It?

description

^^^ Just Kidding. I know it sounds like I hated the book. I didn't. I was irritated with the above elements, but the actual plot was good. I felt like I'd been told a damn story at least.

There's some humor, sexy times, cuteness, drama, mystery, danger, good friends, interesting insight into the life or doctors and cops, etc...

The author just needs to be careful building jinga houses full of plot devices - needs more attention to details - so it doesn't collapse when shit doesn't line up...

description

The story is fairly long at 495 pages, but I didn't feel like it was laced with fluff. For the most part, the plot points stayed on task; they dragged, but remained fairly focused.

Standalone ...

There's no cliffhanger. All the mystery and suspense plot points are tied up. The MCs relationship leaves on a HFN note.

The last chapter is an intro to the next Trent brother and ties characters from this book to him. So just be warned that it ends with a teaser for a book not out yet;)

Overall

3 stars for storytelling. That said, I would not recommend this to readers sensitive to OW/OM mentions after the MCs meet.

This book has taken me three weeks to read! Of course that was all over the Christmas holidays, but still, it was long! I'm not going to lie, it was a little relief to get to the end of it, finally.

I absolutely loved Tina's previous work, Love Unscripted and Love Unrehearsed so naturally I was excited when I knew Tina was writing another book. Unfortunately for me, this one just wasn't up to the same standards. I found it was too long and a large portion of it was just unncessary. A lot of time I found myself skimming the book just to get to the juicy bits - the dialogue. That's where the most information is. However, I did get to the end of the book so that is always a bonus. If anything, I just wanted to know certain bits of information, and they were cleverly at the end.

Jacked is the story about Detective Adam Trent and Doctor Erin Novak. They meet in unlikely circumstances and grow from strength to strength in their relatinship. There are ups and downs along the way, but on the whole, it was kind of plain sailing. I just didn't find the story all that interesting. There is a BDSM aspect, but honestly, I found it all a little too random. In my opinion it didn't suit the characters, at all. It also didn't bring anything to the story.

It could just be me reading it at the wrong time of the year, but it really wasn't my cup of tea on the whole. I'm happy to move on.

Jacked (Trent Brothers #1) by Tina Reber
4.5 stars!!

“I didn’t know what I’d done to deserve this man but I now knew I’d kill to keep it. Both of us, damaged and flawed, and yet together we were more than the sum of our fears.”

Well it has been a long wait for a Tina Reber book, I fell in love with her writing style when reading the Love Unscripted series and have been waiting rather impatiently I might add since. Still my Facebook stalking has not been in vain as I have been thoroughly entertained with Fluffy et al which has left me dreaming about living near a forest and having my own personal harem of reindeer to feed.

Anywho, I digress, back to Jacked. This is a longggg book; however, it did not feel that way when I was reading. As soon as I was past the 10% mark, I was in, hook line and sinker and the book never let me go until the end.

This is the story of Adam Trent and Erin Novak. Trent was an ATTF cop; he was the lead in a specialist undercover unit that dealt with organised crime in relation to motor vehicle theft. He was sexy as hell, alpha, commanding, he was just perfect! He was also the front man for a new reality TV show that followed his every move recording the busts that he and his task force undertook. He was a celebrity in his own right, but this was the kind of attention that he didn’t want, but with the amount of money the show was throwing at the task force, he had no say in the matter, much to his chagrin.

Erin was a doctor, she was kind, caring, compassionate, everything that a doctor should be. She was a work-a-holic, her work was her life, and she was such a beautiful person, both on the inside and out. She had failed miserably with relationships and had sworn off men, she was extremely career minded and decided to focus on that rather than the opposite sex.

After a particularly long and brutal night in the ER Erin is on her way her home, this is where her path crosses with Adam Trent for the first time. Their first meeting was explosive, but not the sexual kind. Sparks flew and you just know from that moment onwards that this could be a match made in heaven or a match made in hell. In the beginning I was leaning more toward the latter.

“One thing was for certain. She was the source of the light snuffing out the darkness within me.”

I absolutely loved this couple; they were so good together and so right for each other, despite the fact that they were polar opposites. However, Adam’s alpha tendencies were the perfect balance to Erin’s low self-esteem and confidence issues. He brought out her harder side and she brought out his softer side. He bigged her up and she brought him down a peg or two or three. Adam was struggling with the limelight though and the attention that it garnered and the fact that more often than not it hindered his work. With past relationships scarring the both of them this couple had a lot to work through, but despite all their problems these two were fast becoming a solid unit, now the rest of the world just had to leave them alone.

“…trust is the basis for everything. Without it, relationships are superficial.”

This was a slow build, but once they had both made that commitment to each other these two were all in and it was HOT! I felt the chemistry, the pages sizzled and we all know that Tina Reber can write an epic love story. With a plot full of twists and turns this was some roller coaster ride, but one that I never wanted to jump off of. The ride was intense and suspenseful and Tina Reber really created the edge of your seat ride that I am sure she was aiming for. It made for some intense reading whereby the world took a back seat.

“I’d been bleeding inside for so long, missing something I couldn’t quite name. It was hard to hide just how desperate I was for her to heal me.”

The last chapter of the book was told from Adam’s brothers POV, Jason Trent and this I believe is the introduction to the next book in the series called Amped. Jason was in the forces and was wounded in action so this I can tell is going to be an emotional read. He has a long road ahead of him and I am sure that we will be treated to another Tina Reber masterclass.

JACKED 4.5 STARS .. so will my punishment entail being cuffed by Detective TRENT?

Adam & Erin ♥

description

".. how does she do it? how does she stay so beautiful amidst this ugliness?

description

HOLY HOTNESS! A doctor & a detective? DAYUM.. talk about POWER couple. And how may have these two of met? Of course .. it would have been a car chase. As soon as they laid eyes on one another; I knew, they knew, we all KNEW they were destined to be together. I can't even add Adam to my book boyfriend list because Erin and him are basically a team which results in .. being my book POWER couple. I adored these characters equally except when Erin .. talk about PLOT TWIST (warn a girl next time)! Fortunately enough, Mr. hot-DETECTIVE has a few brothers thus resulting in more books .. YAY! I'm so glad for the last chapter which was a preview to come for the next book!!! However .. I was kind of hoping for a more thorough ending or beginning for the power couple which wasn't completely given. The story did take a while to build up and was quite long but not long ENOUGH! With that being said, it was built up and then it felt rushed and finished? UNLESS their having another book?! (I WOULD REALLY PREFER AND NEED THAT)

Title: Jacked
Author: Tina Reber
Release Date: December 11, 2014
Rating: 5.00+ stars
Cliffhanger: No
Spoiler-free review

Tina Reber knocked it out of the park! I LOVE everything about this book...characters, plot, steam factor, etc. I feel like I played the book lottery and won the jackpot with this hot winter release! Be prepared to fall in love with Adam Trent and spend a sleepless night reading this 5+ star gem.

I am writing this mini review on two hours of sleep, and I will write a formal review later this week.

-I knew at 25% into this book that I was going to miss these characters when this book ended.

-At 47% - I read one of the hottest love scenes. It wasn't that it was super smutastic that made it nuclear. It was so intense and well-crafted with emotion.

-I woke up at 3am thinking about this book...and then I had to pick it up again. So here I am on 2 hrs of sleep, exhausted and need to do something about the book hangover I am nursing.

This book is long -- 563 pages. I didn't realize this until the end. It was that effing good. No cliffhanger -but we get a glimpse of the next Trent boy story.

By the way- I called dibs on Adam Trent as my book boyfriend.

This review appears on http//:www.kindlecrack.net, http://www.facebook.com/kindlecrack, Goodreads, Amazon, Google+, Pinterest, and Twitter. A review copy of this book was kindly provided by the author in exchange for a honest review.

I first marked this one down as DNF at 30%, but my curiosity won out and I decided to finish it.

Typical adult contemporary.
It seems to include a lot of things that make me roll me eyes while reading.
The slow pace of the story also didn't help.
I really disliked the main characters, the "heroine" more than the "hero".

Will I keep reading the series? My curiosity tells me yes.

#mustclick http://amzn.to/1w8rP9c

I picked up Jacked because I loved Ms Reber’s 2 book Love series, Love Unscripted and Love Unrehearsed (if you have not read these we highly recommend to 1click) any who I loved her style so I added Jacked to my to read list.

Ms. Reber did not disappoint, I truly enjoyed Adam and Erin’s story. Detective Adam Trent and Doctor Erin Novak are both adults, both successful in their given career and both with pasts and secrets. I loved their first meeting, it was very unqiue and continues to amp up the energy with each page. You were also able to feel the sexual tension from almost the moment these two locked eyes

I throughly enjoyed the story that went along with this relationship, the story had a lot of moving parts all of which build into a story that kept my attention as “Cop” and “Doc” navigated the murky waters of their blossoming relationship. Ms Reber masterful intertwining a love story with both characters careers.

Adam is well HOT and when he gets Erin alone he will set you kindle ablaze with lines like this:

“I don’t need you to tell me what you like or don’t like. I can tell just how your body reacts under my touch to know what gives you the greatest pleasure. Read you like a book, open you at my whim, just waiting, anticipating my perusal. Will I? Won’t I? That’s not for you to decide. I take those choices away from you, just like I did earlier. Your part is just to feel and enjoy and know with every fiber of your being that I will take you to places you’ve never been. Touch you in ways you’ve never experienced.” His eyes leveled on mine.

“So to answer your question, Doc, yes, I want to do so much more than just have sex with you.”

I really don’t want to give away the how these two final come together or what almost destroyed it all as experiencing this journey in the vivid picture crafted by Ms Reber is so worth the read.

I will say the end of this book was so well done; I knew Erin and Adam were meant to be together and that their happy was solid no matter what live throws at them.

I am truly happy this is the start of a family saga. I can’t wait for Jason, Adam’s youngest brother story! I will not tell you why I am so anxious for Jason but I will say the very very end of this story has hoping his book releases soon!

I am very much looking forward to Amped (Trent Brothers book 2); Jason’s story.

3.75 stars. This was hard to rate. It was a good story. Had action, drama, some angst and a strong H and h. Not too much angst and no cheating. But it was LONG. I did not skim, but I found myself wondering how long Adam was going to live in his head instead of the real world. It got frustrating. Plus the endless comparisons to his ex got old fast. I also thought Erin should have given him a harder time over his disappearing acts.

Overall, I liked Adam. A lot. I understood his insecurities. I also likes Erin. A lot. It was refreshing to read a book where I could tolerate both main characters.

I would recommend.

I really loved this book! Both Erin and Adam were fantastic characters. This author did an exceptional job with the character development - I really felt like I knew both these characters. The sexy scenes were hot, there was some witty banter, some drama, a little angst and a good amount of suspense. I did not want to put this book down. I loved the mystery and suspense - especially towards the end. I got this book in my bookworm box a while ago and I'm kicking myself for not reading it sooner - it was a fantastic book and I really connected with this authors writing style. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

I love Tina Reber's stories! So of course I was going to one-click this baby. What Can I Say? I enjoyed and loved every second, minute and hour of this story.

Two Kindred spirits. With secrets and the same journey. Trying to redeem themselves.
What I love the most was that we actually get to see and experience, word by word, how Adam and Erin start to shared some stuff they buried a long time ago and how love grows between them.

It's intense, romantic and yes we have a "I didn't see that one coming". The writer did an excellent job with this twist.

I thought this was published by Atria, but I guess I was wrong. Editing was a huge issue. It dragged and dragged, some parts could've been cut out. Typos. Hmmm... too many to count, but enough to be annoying.

Erin was a bit wishy washy. She's strong, she's not and back again.

Adam could be a bit annoying at times. His alpha male role wasn't exactly sexy.

I do like the alt POV and hope that when we get Jason's story, it continues that way.

The storytelling was good. Plot was fine. Lots of excitement, but also lots of unnecessary information.

Wow what an amazing story!

I really loved Erin and Adam's relationship. It was great to read and I was hooked from the get go.

I did find the pacing to be a bit off. I found it to move perfectly at the beginning but once Erin and Adam got together it slowed down and then sped back up again to close off the story. I thought some parts where unnecessary and that this is what disturbed the flow.

Other then that I really loved this book and I cannot wait to read more from Tina Reber.

********EDIT************
Ok I went back to finish it. My rating still stands.

***************************

I DNF at 70%. I really tried. I really did. I stuck it out for hrs. I was hoping it would click with me. The writing style is just not for me. This book is soooo unnecessarily wordy and the characters' relationship borders on Insta-love. I can't. I wont rate it since I didnt finish it but my heart and brain are screaminggg 2.75-3 stars.

This was a really slow burn. Erin and Adam were two equally flawed characters with serious baggage. I enjoyed the build up of their relationship. As it neared the end, the action really kicked in and the little twist at the end was one I didn't see coming until the last minute. There was a brief intro to Jason Trent's book and I'm very anxious to see how the author handles that very delicate topic. 4 Stars for Jacked. I really enjoyed it!

This one started off very hot indeed. There's excitement, thrills, mutual instant attraction and car chases. Then it just kinda slows right down to almost a complete stop for at least 40% of the book. I mean don't get me wrong it's still really enjoyable as it's focusing more on the relationship between Adam and Erin. I guess it just started off so fast paced and then practically nothing for the majority of the book it just felt like it could have been a shorter read. It does pick back up by about 70% then it's a no holds barred read till the finish. Plus it's very erotic at times, Adam is dominating, sexy, likes the odd use of ropes and he has handcuffs so what's not to love about him. Erin has a lot of secrets,  keeping them locked up well. It's just a good thing that Adam knows the exact way to get those secrets out and in the open. They do work very well together, you can almost feel the electric connection they have. There was just one thing that bothered me slightly about this one and that was sometimes when things were getting hot and heavy between Erin and Adam, the author would cut off that part of the chapter. It probably won't bother a lot of other readers but it's just a pet peeve of mine. I like to see parts of a story like that finished. I did think this book was written brilliantly and the story flowed perfectly. 4 stars

WOW this was an amazing hot, suspenseful read! I was drawn in right from the very first page. I guarantee when you are finished you will want your very own Adam Trent!

Adam is a HOT detective who is working on investigating a sold car ring. Erin is a trauma doctor working in the ER who meets Adam when she is pulled over for a case of mistaken identity.

This book has a little bit of EVERYTHING, romance, mystery, suspense and an amazing story-line. I can't wait to meet the next Trent Brother!

Such a great book. It has everything. Action, mystery, love, and passion. Great story line.

The way Adam and Erin's story unfolds is amazing. Adam is a hot, slightly dominant, alpha male who after being hurt before still decides to go after what he wants. What he wants is Erin.

Erin has had a lot of pain in her past. That pain has made her who she is. Can she let go and let love in? Is Adam the man to help her?

One of my new faves! Can't wait for Jason's story!

Jacked - 4 Stars - Tina Reber

Enjoyed this tale woven by the awesome Tina Reber! I would have read it sooner, but besides having to write my own novels, this title couldn't be found through any other outlet other than Amazon, so it missed my radar when it was released…four years ago. Not all of us are strictly Kindle users, just food for thought. Anyway, when I came across this, I was elated due to the fact her Love Series is in my Top 20 list of all-time favorites. It feels as it's been an eternity since she came out with a new title and I am looking forward to her next work Amped. She can't write fast enough. Okay then, if I enjoyed it so much, why only four stars you ask? The beginning hook was a bit confusing, so I had to reread it again and the buildup was too long and drawn out. I read other reviews which readers admitted to bailing on the story due to this fact. There was a lot of unnecessary back and forth that could have been left out and the story would have remained strong. In addition, while everyone has gone through past relationships and constantly compare them to the one they are about to enter into, I have to say, it got tiresome after a while. I felt as though the characters were whining. Yes, we've all had bad ones in the past, there's always a Nikki in the background somewhere, but grow up already. The final intense sexual scene between the two characters where Erin admits as to her reasoning of why she won't have children left me a bit angry. It went a bit too far. I was on the fence about Adam throughout the entire book, but his deep insecurities and anger never should have been taken out on Erin like that, no matter what the goal. So, in the end, he fell on the side of me not liking him at all. However, after taking a step back and looking at the whole picture, I get it. Two fractured souls trying desperately to embrace the new, while guarding their hearts at the same time. I laughed where I should have, cringed where I was supposed to, and my jaw dropped on cue. It's a great and lengthy read I highly recommend from an extremely talented author.

DNF @ 20%.

I kept waiting for something to happen. This book was sooooo slow! I get that the H is sexy but I didn't need to read sentence after sentence about his lips, muscles, voice, etc. Plus, the h just lost her aunt and her uncle is in the hospital after losing his arm. Shouldn't she be focusing on that since it just happened 24hrs ago? Instead, she is flirting with the H like its any other day.

Jacked is the perfect name for Adam Trent and Erin Novak's story - two people whose souls are broken and find themselves in jacked up situations due to their pasts and their inability to let go of incidences that were out of their control.

Both Adam and Erin feel as if they have to atone for situations that irrevocably changed them and altered their mindset. They both hold their secrets tightly to the vest and never truly show themselves to anyone. It's going to take a lot for either of them to let their guards down, especially when doing so would risk someone walking away without even looking back.

But in a twist of fate, these two people who deal with death and destruction on a daily basis will find a connection with one another that neither have felt before, and when their paths cross in rather unexpected ways, both Adam and Erin will have to figure out if they're too "jacked up" to be in a committed relationship when half truths and an inescapable past constantly threaten to tear them apart before they even really get started.

Control - that's what Adam and Erin's lives thrive on. As a police detective and a doctor, they always have to be at the top of their games; their minds need to be on the alert at all times because it's a matter of life and death each and every time they are on the job. With one impulsive act or miscalculated decision, lives can be lost, and neither of them want that on their conscience, not with what they both have already had to endure. But sometimes, things go awry regardless of how calculated every maneuver is, and this is the exact type of situation where Adam and Erin find their lives intersecting.

Adam Trent is definitely an alpha male. He's a passionate man who loves his job and gives every part of himself to getting the job done and putting the bad guys away. His past is filled with loss, betrayal, and addiction, but he's moved on from it all, for the most part, and his focus is solely on being the best detective he can be despite all the bullshit in the background threatening to turn him into something that he's definitely not. He wasn't looking for a committed relationship when Erin enters his life; in fact, he does everything he can to prevent anything starting up between them, despite his insane attraction to her. But the pull towards her is too great, so even though he doesn't know if it's the right decision to give into his desire for her, he can't help but want her in his life because she makes him want to be a better man and makes him feel more than he's ever felt before, providing a calming presence in a rather dark existence.

Erin Novak is a doctor driven to help others any way that she can. This has been his singular purpose since she was a teenager. She's worked her ass off to prove to herself that her past cannot define her no matter how much it tries to pull her down. She's compassionate, feisty, and in control at all times. But in terms of a personal life, she's been knocked down too many times by men who only want one thing from her and then walk away, leaving her to pick up the pieces. Her attraction to Adam scares the shit out of her because it occurs quickly and it's intense. She knows that if she gives her heart to Adam and he hurts her, she'll never recover, which is why she walks on eggs shell at the beginning of their relationship. She's used to being the one to hold everything together, so when her life starts spiraling out of control, she doesn't know how to react, and when Adam steps up to help her carry the load, she's afraid that she's too far gone to prevent him from destroying her.

Boy have I missed Tina Reber's writing. She has a way of effortlessly telling a story that draws readers in from the start because she fully immerses readers into the characters' lives by providing concrete insights into their pasts and presents. There's no doubt as to what the characters are thinking and feeling because Reber gives it to us through her first person perspectives and internal ramblings. Adam and Erin are extremely well developed characters, so even though readers may not like the things they say and do at times in the story, the actions make sense due to what we know about them.

The storyline is also well developed. It may seem slowing moving at first, but that's because there are a lot of variables to describe and understand. There is a lot of back story and background information that needs to be hashed out in order for readers to get an accurate perception as to how each and every event coincides; without it, the story would be choppy, and when you're dealing with two main characters who have high profile jobs and quite involved lives, all of that information is necessary to have. I loved the length of the story and the time it takes for Adam and Erin to trust each other enough to move forward despite all of the chaos that surrounds them.

Jacked is a fantastic start to the Trent Brothers series, and with the small preview readers get into Jason Trent's story, I know I'm going to love book 2 as well.
