Ok, you're probably wondering why am I still reading this if my rating in the previous volumes was so low, aren't you? No. Well, I'll just tell you anyway.

*drumroll*

I don't know! Suprise huh? Yeah! Probably, because of Kai. I just love that guy! I still have this 1% hope that he'd end up with Mei or me, but I'm not in the manga so...

I really like the fact that there are new characters in the story now. Everything was getting boring, but now I see a little star joining the team and making my rating three here.

The eleventh volume of this manga, and while at times I am getting a bit bored, it was still interesting.

This volume has many things. We have a new school year starting (Senior year, so you can all guess what that will mean, yep, either the manga will stop soon, or it will continue into college), a new first class (with 2 interesting new characters), decisions to make for the future, dieting (because Mei (and actually all the girls in the manga)), serious talk, romance. The manga was full to the brim, and while like I said it was interesting, it was also a bit boring. It just misses the spark it had in the beginning. Things are starting to settle, and while there are some exciting things happening, it is all pretty much slice of life.

Also, like I said in previous books, while the whole thing of girls thinking they are overweight is realistic, it doesn’t feel realistic when the girls are twigs. And yes, I know that girls that are twiggy can also feel fat, but sorry, in the manga it just feels weird and out of place. Luckily, I am not the only one. Quite a few people are worried about Mei, especially Yamato, who is worried she will just fall over, or isn’t eating enough. He is happy with how she is, doesn’t mind it if she is a bit more fluffier. I am quite a bit worried about Mei at times. She does her best, she is amazing, but there is just no need to diet if you are already thin like that. :(

Mei’s problems don’t stop at dieting. She has to think about her future, senior year is here, but she has no idea what she wants to do. Everyone around her seems to have a general idea, but she? She just doesn’t know. But her friends, her teachers, her mother, everyone tries to help her. Also letting her know that it isn’t bad that she doesn’t know it yet. That at her age it is normal to feel confused.

I also felt for Meg. She is quite a great girl (if she wants), but we see that her life isn’t the easiest. While she is a doll (with how she looks, this is what she is called), she is tiny. And that might just interfere with her job. Poor girl. I do hope we will see how it will go for Meg. Will she give up on her job and go for Language arts? Or will she continue and just try?

I loved the romance between Yamato and Mei, there is more and more of it, which makes me happy. If only other manga *cough*My Little Monster*cough* would do the same.

The new characters? I like them, they seem like nice characters, though I do hope that the guy doesn’t do anything to get between Mei and Yamato.

All in all, a pretty good volume, and I can’t wait until the next one.

All of my reviews of this series are basically me heaping praise on its creator, Kanae Hazuki. Well, here I go again. I love that Hazuki was surprised and a little upset that people thought that the story could end now that the main characters slept together. Sex, she says, isn't a facet of character development; it has nothing to do with the main plot of Mei learning to be in the world. With that statement she ought to win some YALSA award for taking down one of the most overused tropes in YA girls' fiction.

I’m loving the author’s notes in this series!

In short, this volume explores the larger question of Mei’s future and her deepening relationship with Yamato. Newer characters are added in while older characters like Megumi get some panel time circling around her insecurities when a new model comes to school and her hopes for study abroad plans prove more difficult.

author’s note: I wanted to explore how the heroine would think and grow in situations she’s never experienced before. Sleeping with the guy she loves is not part of Mei’s growth.

I like this for Mei.

I didn’t love the whole “gotta lose weight!” A plot, even if it was just a vehicle to introduce some new characters. Otherwise, though, nothing wrong with this volume, it was just very obviously a “let’s start a new arc” set up volume.

Suki-Tte Ii Na Yo a.k.a Say I Love You

A light read filled with positive messages.

(The rating and review are conclusion for all of the volumes excluding the synopsis. Beware of spoiler.)

《 Plot 》
The pace of the story is good. Although there are 18 volumes all over, it doesn’t make you lose interest in it. The story starts by introducing Mei who's a bully victim. She doesn’t have any friends because she always distances herself from people. This is because she has been betrayed by her friends back in the middle school. Ever since then, she never trusts people anymore. However, she begins to change when she gets to know Yamato. Yamato is a popular guy that has many friends and is wayyy too friendly with girls. He starts to approach Mei when she kicked him because of some misunderstanding that happened. Yamato pursues Mei every day which eventually leads them being together. The story starts to develop from there and it’s being told from Mei’s POV.

《 Characters 》
Mei Tachibana, the heroine
When Mei starts falling in love with Yamato, she feels scared of showing everything to him. I can relate to that a lot because you don't know how things will be so it's scary. There are other moments that I can relate to but I won't tell you to avoid spoiler.

At one point, Mei begins to change herself by engaging more with people around her. That's what makes her strong and kind girl. She is very observant of people around her and tries to help them the best she can. I love her character development.

Yamato Kurosawa, the hero
Yamato is a typical cool who is popular for his kindness. Despite being a cool popular guy, he still has his own flaws. There are some issues that he struggles with but didn't let people see him in that way. I wouldn't really picture him as a really good guy. He has his flaw but he learns to change little by little.

《 Pros & Cons 》
Realistic & healthy relationship
↳ There are several couples born in this comic and each of them shows what relationship is likely to be in real life especially Mei’s relationship. If you have been in a relationship, several situations that happened will make you go “Omg, I went through that too!”. On top of that, most of them are in a healthy relationship making it enjoyable to read.

Positive messages
↳ It touches the issue of bully and friendship. Although Mei has been bullied, she doesn’t retaliate at those who had betrayed her back then. It also shows that life is more wonderful with loyal companions being by your side.

The art drawn
↳ It’s not that the art are bad or anything. It’s just not really my cup of tea. I noticed that the art was changing slightly as the volume continues on. It got better in my opinion.

《 Extras 》
My favourite manga! I keep going back to this whenever I feel like reading something light and fun. This is my first manga that I read when I first started to read comic. I was so happy when I found out this comic had completed in English version. These are several quotes that I love from this story.
“Nothing makes a girlfriend more insecure than a boyfriend who's kind to everyone.”
“No matter how beautiful you are, when you're dating someone, all of your flaws come out.”
“If you want to move forward, sometimes, you can't keep doing things the way you've always done them. That peace of mind ruins you and hurts people.”
“You can get stronger by loving others and letting them love you.”

⚝ Who should read? ⚝
❥ Enjoy high school story.
❥ Love friendship theme story.
❥ Can tolerate typical “famous guy” falls for “unpopular girl”.

Haha.

4.5 As they all go into senior year everyone is considering their futures. I'm glad we get to see them struggle and grapple with the uncertainty of what they want to do beyond school. Its a key point of relatability for that stage in life that sometimes is overlooked or isn't given the empathy or full understanding. and like so many other topics like it Hazuki writes it excellently.
Its great to see the range of how Hazuki shows people come about their future goals. Mei is unsure. Yamato has an idea but it's a newer one and the future is still unclear enough. And then Mei has a clear goal but she's facing issues she can't really overcome in the “look” necessary for global modeling.
There's an interesting focus on weigh loss and self-image here. Just like all the way back in volume 1 Hazuki handles it well. We get to see two sides of it in Mei who does it to a healthy amount and Megumi who doesn't seem to.
We also get two new faces in the sibling duo of the lone wolf Len and the model Rin. Both has this interesting stark hairstyle that Hazuki really makes pop. Len is fun in how awkward and standoffish he is. I enjoyed Rin too as she sets up an interesting dynamic with Megumi as both are jealous of the other.
Speaking of Megumi she gets a good amount of time here. I'm so glad Megumi keeps on developing and growing. It sticks true to Hazuki's philosophy that's written all over the manga and she's become really enjoyable to read and watch grow. In here she struggles with modeling as well as her relationship with Takemura as the new up and coming Rin both reminds her of her modeling flaws AND begins engaging with Takemura.

This is when things start changing in the series…
First of all, the Aoi twins join the storyline. I don’t remember being fond of them when I read this the first time. But I kinda like them more this time around. Ren can be antisocial but he’s so funny. Rin too.
Now, that the main characters are 3rd years, college/career choices are to be made. That part of school days manga is not my favorite. But it seems that Yamato found out what he wants to do. But Mei is still confused.
Also, I’m sensing that Yamato is uncomfortable with Mei being close with Len. I mean it doesn’t help that she would let a text from him interrupt their sexy time!!!!
And finally, the Kai and Rin thing! Ugh Meg seems jealous but she is stubborn as hell.. Kai really likes her but it seems like it’s not going to happen…?

3.5 stars.

I really liked that we got to see all of the kids considering their futures and want they want to be after high school. I appreciated that while some had clear ideas of what they wanted to do, there were also others who were really lost and only just starting to think about what they want to be and where they are going. (Because I just like drama, I'm curious to see how Yamato's jealousy is handled. I really don't want it to go in a toxic route. I want him and Mei to be able to talk about it and for him to realize that he doesn't need to be so insecure.)

I think the next volume might be my last, I have it out already. Still seems light on the romance and I just wish we saw more of what they were saying about our MC. That she seems to like epeople more and that she was less blunt/harsh with people. Also, I just can't these characters are sooo skinny and there was so much fat talk in this volume. le sigh... Also if characters are gonna be sexually active why can't we see that the girl likes it. I think exploring sex can be really sweet so why do they always say no but act like they mean yes...

Rin is so sweet and pure???? Unexpected, but Im not even mad about it Im enjoying her character so far. Seems like the manga is getting a bit too real now setting up their future careers and everything that comes with that. Yamato going into photography is such a good idea!! I support him wholeheartedly. Im aching to see what direction Mei is going to take, but I think if she sets her mind to it anything is possible.

Está llegando un punto en que es más interesante la historia de los secundarios y amigos varios y familiares que de los protagonistas xD (solo por eso, sigo, porque la historia de Yamato y Mei Se está volviendo pesada y él bastante cargante)

Enjoyed this volume and really liked the author's note at the end. I enjoyed the quiet insightful reflections she had as it related to the series and where the characters go from here plus her own story and her mother's support/unconditional love.

So far this has been the volume of this series that I’ve related to most considering that I’m also in my last year of secondary school this year and the fact that although I plan to go to college I’m still kinda unsure about my future. Nice to be able to relate to something once in a while.

This book covered the insecurities of the unknown after high school. Decisions that students find themselves contemplating, as they go into their last years of high school. What do I want to be?
