Dale has been on the run - on the run from himself and the demons that haunt him. However, when he comes across a stunningly beautiful woman he cannot resist, he knows that he must do whatever it takes to possess her. She is a Druid with secrets of her own, but he is drawn to her like no other. Even when danger closes in around them, Dale knows that the true threat is to his very soul, which he will sacrifice in order to save her.

In this novella we find out what happens to Dale the warrior who saved Aisley and how his future entwines with Rennir, a lonely Druid on the Isle of Coll.
Yet another great book in The Dark Warrior series. Can't wait to start reading another one of Donna's series. Donna is fast becoming one of my favorite authors in this genre.
Good story but suffers from a little information overload that is difficult to avoid in shorter stories. Will be looking to read more from this series.
I really am glad that Dale and Rennir lived happily ever after, with the Warrior being able to find redemption and the Druid not having to feel lonely anymore.
Really. I am.
This novella certainly packs a punch with its storyline containing a wealth of information...leading to an unfortunate less than successful follow through, in this case hindered by a lack of adequate space. It doesn’t help that the supposedly celebratory Winter Solstice theme, I’m sure meant to convey the warm and fuzzies, fell short of feeling festive.
I can appreciate the premise of the story, however, upheld by the ever present writing skills by this author. Overall, an entertaining read that concludes a series with an important factor that can make or break a romance story for me.
We get a nice surprise short story from Ms. Grant for the last Warrior.
Rennie inherited the land on the Isle of Coll from her aunt. Her first thought was to sell it, even though it's been in her family for generations. Once she arrived, there was something that kept her there.
After his last battle on the side of evil, Dale felt a pull of a Druids magic. He followed the feeling to the Isle of Coll and the Druid that held him enthralled with the feel of her magic.
Together, the discover what is on jer land that a local drough wants. And they work to find Rennies destiny so they can have their happy ever after.
This was a great short read that gives us a great ending to the Warriors. I enjoyed the story and I'm glad to see Dale get his Druid.
This was a short read that blended well within the timeline of the story of the warriors and druids. Dale is lost, haunted by a magic that both saved and thralled him. He must find the source of the glorious magic, the magic that saved him when he thought he was a goner.
Rennie loves her farm, but the Isle of Coll is a lonely place, so she makes a Christmas wish that she can find someone who will share in her dream.
As these two aouls unite, a drough who weilds dark magic approaches and test both their united magic, and their love. The story was full of great moments and well worth the time spent to read.
I know with a novella there isn't much space to let a story unfold, so the Insta-love was expected, but some of the reasonings throughout the book were mighty annoying. For instance, why would Harriet think she could all of a sudden charm her way into getting Dale's help and why would she think that if she killed Dale, Rennie would cooperate with her. That makes no sense!
Its 2 short!! Dales deserves 2 b happy after all he went through in his past. It is good that he helped her get her full potential even though it could hurt him in the long run. With the help of her ancestors she got her dream come true and her magic is much more than she thought possible. I wish he could at least contact Ansley that he was on since he saved her so much b4. At least he got a fresh start about just about everything.
Dale survived and escaped Jason Wallace and finds himself drawn by magic to a druid on the Isle of Coll. Rennie is alone because her magic gives people who touches her visions. When Dale saves her after she fell and hit her head in a storm their attraction comes hard. It's a quick tale, with Dale saving her and she in turn saves him. Nice read.

I’ve wondered what happened to Dale, after the selmyr. Now I now and he got is *spoiler alert* HEA. I grew to like Dale, when he helped Aisley. Thank you Donna.
Spoilers Ahead..... * * * * * Wow, Dale is the first in many many years, that has his god binded. Which was an hea. With Dale and Rennie together. I really enjoyed this novella.

Midnight’s Surrender, another wonderful addition to the Dark Warriors series, pulls you into the dark world of the warriors and you surrender from the first page to its magic, danger, adventure, passion and love. You’ll be hooked into that world and left wanting for more, much more, when the book ends.
I loved this book, even if was a very short one. The characters in this story have a shot at love and a chance at finding a new path in life with the perfect person. There are not many twists and turns here, the length of this book doesn’t permit it but the author made a fabulous job with the writing and didn’t leave out any important details. It has action, a good fight, magic, love and my favorite detail: a wonderful happy ending with wishes coming true and dreams fulfilled.
Fleeing the wrong choices of a tumultuous past and hiding from a malevolent evil, Dale, a warrior, is pulled to a mysterious island, Isle of Coll, by the threads of an ancient and beautiful magic. He knows the magic belongs to a Druid woman and he must find and protect her. Rennie is everything he wants in a woman; even if he thinks he doesn’t deserve another chance at happiness. Her powerful magic attracts him to her more and more each day and he finds he is unable to resist. They each are confronting their own issues and secrets, but the magic of their love is stronger than any threat or magic and will win, as it always does.
I’m a big fan of Ms. Grant’s writing and this book delighted me as much as any of her books. Even if it was a short and quick read, I was able to take my usual dose of Donna Grant’s magic.
Rennie MacBeth lives on the Isle of Coll in the house she inherited from her Aunt Martha two years ago. The plan had been to sell the house and move back to Missouri. However, every time Rennie decides to sell the place, something changes her mind. She is able to live a life without worrying about being a Druid. When she touches people she gives them visions and she can’t control it. She has learned to stay away from people as much as possible. Yet, she wishes for someone to love but knows that her magic will never allow it to happen. Dale Alexander is a warrior who has a primeval god inside of him. He is running from an evil man, Jason Wallace, who forced him to fight with him. He is hoping they think he is dead. As he was healing from the last battle he was in he would dream of a strong magic calling him. It would entice him and give him a reason to heal. Once he was able he started following it. It brought him to Coll. Dale knew Rennie was the Druid he was looking for when he saw her. He could feel her magic and it was the same that called to him only stronger. He is instantly drawn to Rennie physically. Her kindness and gentleness calms him like nothing has before. He is determined to protect her even if it means leaving her. He is afraid that the evil he is running from will find her. When evil does find them, they must make hard decisions in order to survive. Dale will protect her no matter what. This novella is apart of the warrior series and the first I have read. I didn’t really like it for the fact it was too short. I see where the author was going but it felt so rushed and thrown together. The whole story took about two days to cover. It was too much story in too little of time. I give it a 2 out of 5.
I have two books by this author sat on my kindle as they were recommended to me and for some reason I just haven't got around to reading them. Well when I saw this short story advertised I thought it would be a good way to quickly get a feel for this popular authors style and I'm so glad I got it! Ms Grant has a way of pulling the reader into her story and although this is a short novella it didn't lack in either storyline or passion. This is part of her Dark Warriors series and catches up with Dale a Warrior who previously had been coerced into helping the uber evil Jason. Dale had sacrificed himself so that Aisley could escape from her wicked cousin ( her happy ending is told in Warriors Temptation) and has found himself running and hiding since. Believing that there will be no redemption for his past wrong doings he is nevertheless drawn towards a young Druid woman Rennie whose magic calls to him. Rennie has spent her life plagued by the ability to give visions to others when she touches them and views it as a curse. Attracted to each other from the start it's impossible for them to ignore their feelings but when Dake starts having visions when touching Rennie it's clear that time could be running out. Danger is closing in and it looks like Dale will face losing so much more than just his life this time! Set around Christmas time this is a sweet romance with a surprising amount of story packed in. This may be short but it's not lacking! Obviously it would be better to read these books in order but I still felt that although a quick read it was a fulfilling one. The couple have instant chemistry but in a novella the author really can't afford to mess around. Romance, mystery, suspense and seasonal cheer. Short stories are always hard to rate as I naturally want a longer read but this was a great little book and I'm off to read more of her work.
midnight's surrender-dark-warriors-donna-grantDale surrendered his life so that Aisley could have hers. So why is he still alive? He isn’t sure. But one thing he does know is that he’s tired of working for evil and wants to live for himself now.
And, ever since he woke up after the selmyr attack, he has been plagued with dreams of a druid. In his waking hours the pure mie magic calls to him. And, now that magic has brought him to the Isle of Coll and to the stunning druid, Rennie. But when evil threatens her, he will sacrifice anything to save her, even his own life!
After reading what I presume was the last book of this series, Midnight’s Promise, based on its ending with everything tied up in nice neat bows, I was stoked for a chance to read one last Dark Warriors story; even if it is a about a warrior that was on the side of evil throughout the series.
But I’m sad to say that this book just didn’t do it for me.
First of all, I found how accepting of everything Rennie was to be unbelievable. She wakes up to a strange large man in her house, who claims she hit her head and he brought in the house. She doesn’t question it, but invites him to stay the night. And, before the night is out she’s having sex with this complete stranger? And, they’re in love by the next day? She comes off as a bit desperate to me. Also, she didn’t know that Harriet is a threat until Dale tells her so, and then she fears her and never questions Dale’s hunch? I just wish she would have thought for herself once in awhile.
Overall, I couldn’t get invested in this book and couldn’t connect with either Rennie or Dale, and found the book to really be lacking compared to the other installments in the series.
Perfect for the holidays, whether it's Christmas or the Winter Solstice is the just released (5 November 2013), Midnight's Surrender: A Dark Warriors Holiday Novella. If you were curious about Jason's warrior, the former British military man Dale, well here is his story. We last saw him at the battlefield defending Aisley with his life, defying Jason. Now he's in search of magic that has called to him from his almost deathbed.
He finds the source of the magic in a Druidess called Rennie on the Isle of Coll in the Inner Hebrides. Rennie is someone who thinks of her magic as minor, but if anyone touches her they may see their own future without her knowledge. To prevent this, she's chosen to isolate herself at her aunt's home on the island. Phelan finds her and when he touches her sees an image of himself he finds impossible to believe could ever occur, but that's another story (or part of Midnight's Surrender, actually).
Of course we find that there is a drough Druid on Coll who threatens Rennie, but this time it is not Jason. I really enjoyed this short novella that combined suspense, romance, magic, and some wonderful holiday cheer.
I'd advise any paranormal romance fan to make sure that Donna Grant's books are in the library on your e-reader or on your bookshelves (though some of her books, like the novella, are only available electronically at this time). I vote five bunches of mistletoe for this series of three spellbinding tales by Grant that help to round out a fabulous series.
Title: Midnight's Surrender - A Dark Warriors Holiday Novella Author: Donna Grant Publisher: St Martin's Press Published: 11-5-2013 ISBN: 9781466847118 E-Book ASIN: B00DK42O66 Pages: 60 Genre: Romance Tags: Time Travel, Paranormal
Rennie MacBeth, a druid, inherited her Aunt Marta's home and had come to Coll Island to sell it and move on. Yet something kept her from going through with it. Dale Alexander came to Coll Island following a trace of magic that had called to him from the moment he was fatally wounded by the selmyr, a mythical creature with ashen colored skin, stringy hair and lots of teeth. After all he had done and seen during the war between Jason Wallace and the Druids & Warriors he welcomed death to escape Wallace. Dale knew he was dying and crawled to the woods and was surprised when he lived and lived and lived. All without aging a day.
When Dale arrives on Coll and finds the source of the magic is the beautiful Remmie, he finds the first inner peace he has known for years. After a fall he carries her into the house and receives a vision of him growing old with someone. He must get Remmie to tell him what this vision means. Is it what could have been or what still might be? She helps him control his Warrior. What evil is after Dale? Or is it really after Remmie? Why? What can they do? What does the future hold for them? Does either have a future? Read Midnight's Surrender to be pulled into the lives of Dale and Remmie. You will dread the last page only because it brings a close to this great novella. Well done Ms. Grant. Thank you for the enjoyable few hours of escape from the daily grind.
I was blown away when I found out about this story coming so close on the heels of the series finale, Midnight’s Promise, but I knew as soon as I read the hero’s name that I just had to read it. Dale is one of those characters that you always thought you understood until he would surprise you. He was a bad guy with a sweet side who you really wanted to be able to like, but knew that he was fighting on the wrong side. Without the influence of Jason Wallace leading him continuously down the wrong path, Dale is finally able to show us the man he really is. A Warrior and protector in every sense of the word. Seeing him fall in love with Rennie and bring out her confidence in herself and her magic was a great conclusion to the entire series. If you’ve never read the series you might be a bit confused, but I look at this story as a gift from Donna to all her loyal readers, showing us that even the most misunderstood of her characters can find their happiness and the love of their lives as long as they make the right decisions and travel the often more difficult path of righteousness. Traveling through time, watching defeats and victories with our heroes, and of course watching each Warrior find his mate makes the series one of the best I have ever enjoyed. And though I know the series is technically ended, I have a feeling we will be seeing more of them in the continuing Dark King Series. I read this sexy little novella at the wrong time of the year. I prefer to read my Christmas novellas after Thanksgiving. They always leave me wishing for the sights and smells of the holiday season. Dale stumbles into Rennie’s life a few days before Christmas and just in the nick of time. Rennie is a Seattle gal who has been relocated to Coll Island of Scotland due to her deceased aunt leaving her her home and property. Rennie’s plans have always been to sell the property and go back home to the states. The problem is that the home and lands calls to her in a way that keeps her there. It is most likely the same magic keeping Rennie in Scotland that pulls Dale to Coll. Ever since he woke from the selmyr attack he has been drawn to the island. Once he arrives on the island he is pulled to a specific place. It’s that place where he finds Rennie. Dale’s arrival to Rennie is a time when she will need him most. An unforeseen foe attacks while seeking something special that Rennie never knew existed. Midnight’s Surrender gave me my favorite type of hero. I love any hero that I’ve gotten acquainted with over the course of several books that has walked the fine line of good and evil. Dale has played for the wrong team within Donna Grant’s Dark Warriors books. He had his reasons and I was pleased to see that he & Rennie both saw in him what I had seen. He was definitely deserving of his happily ever after.
In this Christmas novella featuring Rennie, a druid and Dale, a Warrior who used to work for the enemy are paired together in this short, but action-packed story.
When Rennie takes a fall and is unconscious, Dale helps her until she is on her feet again. Their romance is instant and quick, readying them for a test that will see how deep their emotions fun for one another. Harriet wants to buy off her land and when Rennie continues to refuse, Harriet takes more drastic measures.
Grant has some great characters in this novella. I loved the action and the storyline but felt that the HEA and the proclamations of love came on a little too swiftly. This is a short novella so I can understand the need to pace oneself, but the wrap up seemed too quick to really be believable. Also, considering this is a Christmas novella, I will say that the holiday theme is on the light side. It’s more of a sprinkle of Christmas cheer than anything else really.
All in all, this short in the Dark Warriors world was a pleasure to read.
First I need to say that this is my first book by Donna Grant, so therefore, I had no knowledge about this series going into it. I received this from Net Galley in exchange for an honest and fair review.
Rennie lives in near isolation on a small obscure isle. She is a Druid and has some special powers but in her family her powers aren’t that special when compared to the rest of her family. Dale is a Dark Warrior and has come to the isle in search of the magic that has been calling him from a far distance. He really just wants to hide out as well, as he just needs a place to spend his immortal life away from everyone. But first he wants to find the woman with the magic and that turns out to be Rennie. Not a spoiler as you find that out very early on in the story.
This is a novella so it was a pretty short book as is usual. The story takes place near Christmas so it ends up being a Christmas time love story. If you read this series, I am sure Dale’s story is a must read for you. There is some rehashing of what has happened to Dale before but not that much and that was okay in a novella. I am not sure but I think Rennie is new to the series. They both are very likable characters and it was well written.
It was a good, short but heartwarming read and I rated it 3.75 stars rolled up to 4 stars.
Rennie's druid abilities has always kept her somewhat detached from society. Now that she has inherited her family farm on an isolated island, she might just have found the perfect place to hide her “curse” ability. Little did she know that her destiny was coming at her full speed ahead.
Dale is literally being magically pulled to this remote island. The draw fills his waking and dreaming thoughts. When he comes face to face with Rennie, he must maintain his control...because all he can think about is making her his.
Finding acceptance in someone like Dale's arms is a dream come true for Rennie, but when evil comes knocking will Dale be tempted or choose redemption in Rennie.
Midnight's Surrender is a short story that provides a quick, easy, entertaining read. The chemistry between Dale and Rennie is immediate and since this is a short story it contains an instant love plot...giving me just enough of the Dark Warriors series to make me want more. A must read for every Dark Warriors fan, you can't miss Dale's story.
I received this ARC copy of Midnight's Surrender from St. Martin's Press in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication November 5, 2013.
I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review, so here it is. I had not heard of this series before and was not sure what to expect. The synopsis sounded good so I thought I would read it. And I am glad I did. This is a great story. Rennie has come to Coll to sell her aunt's property and move on with her life. But something is keeping her from doing just that. Dale is a warrior and is being pulled to Coll by Rennie's magic. Rennie has put up her Christmas tree that is smaller than Charlie Brown's and all she wants is to not be alone anymore. When Dale shows up at Rennie's place, he watches her and sees he fall and not get up. He helps her and he has a vision when he touches her. This is the main reason that Rennie is alone. When people touch her, they have visions and it scares then. And when Rennie can't tell them what the visions mean, they leave her. But not Dale, he is drawn to her and the attraction is nothing he has ever felt before. Will Rennie learn the truth about her magic? Will Dale stay or leave when he can't help her? This is the first for me by Donna Grant and I loved it. I have put all her books on my TBR (To be Read) list. Can't wait to read more from her.
"Midnight's Surrender" by Donna Grant. Novella 8.5 in the Dark Warriors series. ***Bonus novella***
This novella was a bonus for readers as the series officially ended with Book 8 "Midnight's Promise". If you haven't read the Dark Sword/Dark Warrior series, that's OK. This novella stands on it's own. It doesn't give away any information as to what happens in the series. It's the story of Dale. A Warrior who sided with the evil Druid Jason. Dale barely excapes with his life after a huge fight with the MacLeod Castle Warriors.
Dale is alive. All he wants is to stay alive and to do that he needs a place to hide. He feels the pull of a Druid's magic and it is irresistible. He will find her even though he knows he's no good for her.
Rennie is a Druid living a life of solitare. All she wants is someone to love her and for someone she can love in return. But that's kind of hard when no one wants to touch you. But when she meets Dale, she may be closer to happiness than she thinks.
Such a great novella. Quick and to the point. Fantastic chemistry between Dale and Rennie. Such a good storyline. I really enjoyed reading it.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Having not read the Dark Warriors books at all, this world was brand new to me. Overall, it was a fun and quick read that included a brief romance, some steamy scenes, some magic, and a unique world.
This book was a very short story that details the romance between Dale and Rennie. Having just come off his time working for the bad guys (under duress), Dale is on the run from everything and being pulled towards some sexy good Druid magic. Rennie is lonely and feeling down around the holidays, determined to hide away in her home to avoid touching people and consequently giving them random visions.
The two flawed main characters made for some good chemistry and interesting story. Druids are not typically my "thing" when in it comes to paranormal books, but I would be interested in seeing what the other books in this series look like. Short stories are inherently hard for me to review, because they always leave me wanting more, which I guess is the point? At any rate, this one was a good change from my usual reading.
NUMBER OF STARS: 4 REVIEW: Dale has not always been on the good side. He feels that he doesn’t deserve any kind of happiness. But when is is drawn to the Isle of Coll by an unseen magic he is powerless to resist it. What and who he finds as the source of the magic will change everything for him. Rennie loves her little plot of land on the Isle. But she is so lonely, but the thought of leaving is to heart breaking. So she decides to spend one more christmas here. With a christmas wish on her lips she ventures out to check on her farm what she finds will change everything.
This was a quick read only 60 pages long. But filled with a lot of action. If you are a Donna Grant fan you will love Dale & Rennie’s story.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.
