Jase and Carly’s Beginning, and that is exactly what it was, a short intro to the Men of Steel series. Carly was goofy, nerdy and innocent compared to Jase who is tattooed, pierced and liked to share the love. They don’t have much time before Carly leaves for school so she doesn’t want anything serious, but she's finding it hard to stay away, doing things she never imagined doing. I couldn’t help but feel embarrassed at some of the things Carly did, like you wanted to take her under your wing and help her out, but that’s what Jase found he liked most about her.
I know I was warned, but I really wanted to read more about then, just when it was getting good, it ended. I’m curious enough to continue, especially after meeting Jase’s brothers, something tells me their books will soon follow "Cyrus, the badass, Zandor, the kinkiest, or Xavier, the hottest."

Omg, so I was half way done with my review and my computer decided it needed to reconfigure and it shut itself down, so that was it zip....GONE!! Got to hate it when that happens, so this one may be shorter.
This book completely confused me. I'm serious. By the cover and the name, I automatically assumed it was going to be about some badass MAN, maybe ex-army or something who refinds his best friends sister that he always secretly crushed on or something and then feel in love or something. Yes, I read the blurb, but I still got that impression by the name MAN of Steel, and then that cover,...smh. That's not what it was.
First I will start off by saying I'm not bashing the authors work. That's not how I roll. I know the author worked hard on their work and this probably just wasn't for me because I had something else already pictured in my head. It probably doesn't help that I'm in the middle of a re-read of the Rock chicks by Kristen Ashley. Those type of guys just automatically are already in my head, I suppose. However, I do want to get a little bit out of how I feel about it.
Jase was hot. NO, he wasn't what I was prepared for, but he still had an impact on me. He was blunt, tattooed, pierced in several places, yum, cocky, and Italian. Who could turn him down? However, he came off, as this badass, bossy guy and then instantly turned into a mush. Don't get me wrong, I love it when the badasses turn all soft for their women and this was a short story, but we're talking like page 8 he was a mush. I just wish he would've held onto his bossiness a little longer.
Carly......Carly is a whole other story, and honestly I could make the whole review about her. When the story first started I assumed this chick was a freshman in high school. I actually wondered what Jase saw in her at all. But then, OMG,...then I found out she was actually almost a senior, I think, in college. This did not fit. I mean what college girl has a 10:00 curfew?? And, doesn't know how to use Nair. The virgin thing didn't bother me at all, it was all the other things she was so naive about that left me confused about her character. I don't mind a little bit of naivety and even a girl who is a little bit dingy, but I seriously want to know, how has she made it this far in college?? lol!! I don't know, it's a lot to explain, to put it simple, I just didn't get her.
To sum everything up, I couldn't get with the dialogue, the storyline really didn't make sense to me, I mean it seemed the story was just picking up and it just ended. I'm not sure if I'll read the next one or not at this moment. I'm curious as hell, but at the same time, not sure if I want to go there again. it's supposed to be longer and I barely got through this one so I'm not sure.

I'm so glad this novella was free. It was a very frustrating read. The dialogue for the first half of the book did not sound like it was coming from college-aged kids. There were very few contractions..."Yes, I am just cold" instead of "Yes, I'm just cold." I would have like to have seen more -you're- instead of you are. Then, towards the second half of the story, I started seeing more contractions, but without the ('). There were several "cant" and some "your" when it should be "you're" and then some "to" when it should read "too." I would safely say there was some sort of error on 90% of the pages. There needed to be a proof reader on this. The names bothered me too. Josephina told Carly to call her 'Joe.' I think 'Jo' is short for Josephina or Josephine. It was weird later to read "Joe said" and have to remember this was a woman talking. Also, when Carly was introduced to Jase's brothers, Alezandor said he was called 'Sander' for short. I thought that spelling was weird and then the next time his name appeared as "Zander" then later "Zandor." But, the biggest problem for me was the use of "yay" when it should be written as "yeah." When I read "yay" is sounds like it rhymes with "way." Every time someone said "Oh yay" it confused me and I had to translate "oh yeah" in my head. That was nearly as frustrating as the characters constantly shaking their heads "yes". We nod our heads when we are saying "yes" and we shake our heads when we are saying "no." And, my last complaint was that I never found out what was meant by the "Prince Albert" reference until I Googled it. Carly, who was a bit prudish, refers to her vagina as her "who who" and her breasts as her "ta-ta's" so why couldn't we just find out that "Prince Albert" is what it's called when a man gets his "thingy" pierced. The scenes involving that reference were much more vague than they needed to be. Really a large portion of the story was vague and I found my brain had to work hard to make assumptions as to what the characters were talking about or thinking. I will say that I liked when Carly admitted to Jase that he made her "Swoon." That was cute. But, future stories really need to have some editing and proofing before they go live. And, poor Josh. I think Abe and Carly left him at the mall.

Thankfully, this one was a freebie!! I'm giving it 2 stars for two reasons... first, all of the errors!! The incorrect use of words or phrases was crazy (ie Yay=excited and Yeah=agree). Second, I realize it was a novella but didn't expect it to end at 62% or leave us hanging as it did! I did like the characters and the premise and I am interested in learning more about the Steel boys but I'm not sure I'd spend money to read about them when the author can't take the time to have her work edited.

Normally I don't read novellas as they're just to short for me but when I saw the cover I knew I had to read it. Jase he's just all sorts of bossy, and I like it, "Carly, it's Jase. I must have grabbed yours by mistake. Meet me at the beach so we can switch phones, ten minutes." He seems to always get what he wants, I'm not sure if I like that in a man yet, "yes, I told you I wanted to hang out, and by that I meant you and me, not everyone else." Jase is a sarcastic little s***, "yes Carly, my mom owns a little shop on the boardwalk. She also does tattoos." Jase smirked at me, "I had your name tattooed on my a**." Jase I guess his thoughtful, "I broke up with her so we could spend time together. I am not a cheater, and either are you. Climb up on the board, we will deal with her together," Jase patted the board. "Tick tock baby. I won't let her hit you Carly." And there was a cliffhanger everyone knows how much I love them (not).

This is the first book by MJ Fields that I ever read (originally in 2014). It was the start of my love affair for the Men of Steel. The cover caught my eye, but the writing captured my heart!
Carly is socially awkward. Her innocence and naivety is endearing. I LMAO with the chemical hair removal scene .. priceless.
Jase is an alpha, tattooed hottie .. tattoos, pierced nipples and Prince Albert oh my!

OMG! What utter rubbish. No storyline whatsoever, Carly sounded and acted about 12, calling her breasts "ta ta's" and her vagina "who who"?!!!
The book had so many mistakes in it and half the time I didn't even have a clue as to what they were talking about. Not even worth 1 star!

Carly is on vacation visiting her father and while hanging out with her cousin Abe, she met this hot, gorgeous, messy black hair, beautiful eyes, dimples and all, Jase, Abe's best friend. But Jase has this beautiful but crazy girlfriend. Jase couldn't help his attraction to the beautiful yet innocent Carly. So, they started off "fake" dating. Then Jase broke up with his crazy gf and made it official with Carly.
There definitely is a lot of humour in the story that I enjoyed.
There is the annoying grammar that it gets kinda confusing.
There's the fact that Carly didn't know what a Prince Albert was and it was never really explained what it was, I guess it was just assumed that all readers knows what it means. Then there's the "yay" meaning "yes", took a while to get used to that, even then I find it annoying. Comes the gesture of shaking the head and I would assume that was a "no" but then, it means "yes", I would prefer a nod then.
But yes, after a while with a slight headache after, I got the hang of it.
But, setting aside all that (if you could) I would have really enjoyed the book.
It's a short read, funny and romantic. Story continues on the next book.

4 "NICE TO MEET YOU" STARS!
I actually read the new and updated book of "Jase" and this is included in that but I am still going to give my thoughts.
In this book, we are introduced to Carly, Jase and the rest of the Steel men. Carly is a college student taking her summer break out at her dad's in New Jersey. She goes to college out west where she lives with her mom. Jase is a tattooed, bad ass alpha male who owns a tattoo shop with his mom and brothers. When Carly and Jase meet, it is not under the est circumstances. He has a girlfriend, Pam, who is a total bitch. When something by happenstance happens and has them meet up one night, this ensues a whirlwind of attraction and the start of their relationship.Jase and Carly continue to meet up late night and keep it innocent because Carly does not want to be a cheater. When Jase finally decides to give up crazy Pam, Jase and she ensue on a whirlwind romance that they think can only last all summer long.
What will happen when Carly goes back to college? Will they try to work it long distance or will they end their summer fling?
I love Jase. Though I thought he was an ass at times, he was still sexy, broody, alpha, controlling, possessive, and his dirty talk was yummy. I also like Carly. I thought she could hold her own against Jase and gave him shit right back when he was acting like an ass.
I can't wait to continue on with their story and see where there relationship progresses too.

I just finished Men of Steel and I am really not sure what to think of it. I liked it but there were things that I disliked. Carly is home from college to visit her dad. She is hanging with her cousin Abe when she meets Jase. Jase is dating his on and off again girlfriend Pam. Crazy psycho Pam is what Jase calls her. Carly is an innocent girl and doesn't want to be with someone else's guy so she tries to ignore him but really does like him. He pretends to date Carly and because he really does want her, breaks it off with Pam to really date her. It only have a couple of days involved then she has to go back to school with promises that Jake will come and see her now it is to be continued.
I liked the story line but I feel a part of it feel short. I just cant quite put my finger on it but I think that there was to much to go on with very little time in the story and it just felt rushed. I liked both characters but not sure at least at this point if there was anything that really attracted me to them.

OMG... yes I totally read this book out of order but OH WELL!! This is the PERFECT intro Carly and Jase. This gave their whole back story on how they meet for the first time. Let me just say when reading this book I could totally relate to Carly when I was at that age and meeting the first person you are totally taken with. There are A LOT of LOL moments and the chemistry between Jase and Carly is off the charts HOT from the very beginning.
Now I can't wait to start Jase to see how they are able to make any type of relationship work being that Jase lives in New Jersey and Carly in California.

With a cover like that and the name Jase Steel, I figured this quick read was a no-brainer. Boy was I wrong. It almost felt like we jumped into the middle of a story and never really go the full explanation. Maybe because it is such a short book or novella, there was some skimping on character development.
The characters Jase and Carly are supposedly in their twenties, but their actions towards each other are very immature. Jase was this hot, tattooed and pierced lady killer, it was hard to picture him nervous around nerdy Carly who was sneaking out to meet him as a college Sophomore.
I think the author needs to work on developing the characters a bit more and definitely send the book back to the editor. I understand with indie publishing things are different, however as a reader if there are too many mistakes it distracts from the story.

This is a great introduction to the Steel men and what a intro it is.
We meet Jase and his sexy brothers has wonderful mother and the woman thats gonna knock him on his ass when he is least expecting it.
I dont really read novellas they are too short for me, but having the next book in the Men of Steel series ready to read when i finished the novella helped.
I really enjoyed this quick intro to the Steel boys and Carly i like the characters personalities and there interactions with each other.
The Steel brothers have a great dynamic within there family and leave you wanting more.
I look forward to getting more details about each brother from future books.

If you are just planning on reading this book then I don’t know if I would recommend it. As a standalone it has a few problems, mainly the cliffhanger ending. But it is a great lead in to the rest of the series.
In this book Jase & Carly meet for the first time and Jase is a little smart a$$. However they are attracted to each other and can’t seem to stay away from the other. But I have to say that my favorite part of this book is taking a trip to the tattoo parlor and meeting all of the brothers.
This is a must read to get to know the characters of this series but don’t give up after reading this book. This novella has so much more meaning after reading the next book in the series. It ties up all the loose ends left in this book.

I think I got the version that had all the errors in? It's a OK story and it was good enough for me to look into the others in this series. The way it read, I thought the girl was in high school not going back to College and at first the guy was coming across as a teenager but nether of them are. The author just needs to tighten up her writing and watch her errors and I think these are going to be great books. JMHO!

Carly is home from college to visit her dad when she meets Jase. Carly is young and really doesn’t know the way of the world and when she meets Jase, he has a girlfriend and is flirty with her. I didn’t like that to begin with. I’m not into cheaters and I felt like this was where it was going to go. Grant it, Jase and Pam are on and off again but I felt that wasn’t right. At this point where they are on again, he pretends to have a fake date with Carly.
WTF??? Really.
I really didn’t get the point of that. He breaks up with Pam and wants a real date now. Lord, if this is the start of this, what in the world is going to come next.
Jase is supposed to be all alpha like. Uhm, no. He is not. Yes, he is sweet and sexy but I wanted some grrrr moments out of him and it wasn’t there for me.
Carly was just childish for me. Yes, she is supposed to be nerdy and doesn’t know “how hot she is” type of girl but was just kind of wishy washy for me.
I just didn’t see the point of this story. I thought it had potential but with all the things that were in it, it just felt rushed and just sometimes didn’t make sense. I do not know what to do with this one. I am kinda of.. sort of.. disappointed.

Jase Steel lives on the Jersey Shore and works in his mother's Tattoo/Piercing shop with his three brothers. He meets Carly, his best friend Abe's cousin, at a party on the beach, and is instantly attracted to her, but he currently has a girlfriend. Carly is spending the summer with her father, and will be heading back to California to begin her senior year in college. She is unlike any other girl Jase has met, and, even though she will only be in town for a few more days, breaks up with his girlfriend so he can take Carly out.
This was a short story that serves to introduce the characters in the series and tell the story how Jase and Carly's story begins.
The story itself was good, but there were many grammar, dialogue, and spelling issues that were distracting. This was disappointing since this was an updated version of the book that had undergone "significant editorial changes" (according the update notification from Amazon.com).
I think the series has promise, from learning more about Jase's past and seeing how that plays into his relationship with Carly, to other books in the series, which I assume will be about Jase's brothers, who all seemed very colorful from the glimpse of them that was given during this book.

You should read this book, and others by M.J. Fields, if:
- You don't care about the misuse or outright absence of proper punctuation.
- You don't mind not knowing what the hell is going on.
- You enjoy reading about chin faces and especially love it when someone shakes their head yes.
This was seriously the worst "book" I have ever read. But don't take my word for it. See if you can make any sense of it -
Yes, I actually read the book and still had no freaking clue what was happening. Even trying to figure out who was saying what was a constant struggle.
I had to laugh when I read in the acknowledgements that not only had this book been edited (seriously, if you call that editing, then it's time to look for some new editors), but that the author was pursuing writing full-time. It reminded me of what my husband sometimes says when he sees women who pluck their eyebrows until they're practically non-existent, only to draw them back in - "Do they actually wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and say, 'Damn, I look gooood'?" That same concept applies here.
In a way, I find it sad when people devote their lives to pursuing something that they're truly awful at, because you just know that they're never going to experience any real success at it. Sometimes, it's better to just cut your losses and move on. So, my advice would be to cut your losses and move on, not only for your own sake, but for ours as well!

I don't normally read novellas simply because they're not long enough to tell a story. This one however, is an introduction to the series so I made it a point to read it first. I'm glad I did, it gave me the proper intro to the characters and who is who.
Yes, there are some grammar issues in here. I've read three installments in this series and none of them are error free, but I chose to read these for entertainment, not to nit pick.
Carly is an overprotected college kid who is extremely naive and very innocent and uneducated in the world of relationships. To me, that's actually refreshing for a change. I was in my early 20's when I gave up my v-card, so I like seeing that in a story. Jase is a bad boy, he sees what he wants and he does what he has to in order to get it.
As this is just the beginning of the story, it's best to be read first before you dive into the actual stories.
Men of Steel is first, then Jase, then Jase and Carly. I've read all three now and I am very pleased with this author's work. So, obviously, I enjoyed Men of Steel or I would not have continued on with the series. I am looking forward to reading the rest of it and see what the other Steel men have up their tattooed sleeves!

Very short, this novella is a detailed prologue before starting the main story in "Jase".
"Men of Steel", MJ Fields's series will focus on the adventures of the Steel's brothers. In this introduction, the reader meets Jase and Carly and all members of the Steel family that already show a sacred potential...

In this novella, the story focuses mainly on Carly, the innocent and funny girl who attracts Jase's attention.
A chaste romance that looks promising, as there is humor and good, sweet repartees. Also,the main and secondary characters are endearing. They make you want to encountered them.
In short, if I'm not a fan of novella, I admit I enjoy to meet the heroes before the real novel. Almost as if the author had given me an appetite. So now, I impatiently expected the dish. I hope "Jase" will keep all its promises!
