Kaikkein ikävimmin yllättyy Titus, jota jokin paha on selvästi uhkaamassa. Onko asialla pukinsorkkainen demoni vai viekas setäpuoli, joka on päättänyt kaapata pojalle kuuluvan perinnön?
Debi Gliori (born 1959) is a Scottish author and illustrator of children's books. She grew up as an only child in Glasgow, and when young began drawing and writing stories. She started writing children's books in 1976, and attended art school in Edinburgh from 1979 to 1984. She then received a travelling scholarship award to go to Milan, and worked as a freelance from 1984 onwards. She is the author/illustrator of many books for children including Mr Bear, the winner of a Children's Book Award. She is best known for her black comedy Pure Dead series for older children, which display strong elements of family lives amid dark and fantasy-based plots.
These books are so witty and hilarious and whimsical. I highly recommend this series for all ages. I read the series when I was wee but meeting Debi Gliori last week reminded me of how Pure Dead Brilliant the books are, and I decided to reread. I read PDB in one sitting, in 3 hours. A wonderful story, all tied up and completed in a good amount of time. I love children's books!
In another fabulous display of rampant imagination, Ms. Gliori once again threatens the lives of the Strega-Borgia clan. She can't seem to leave these poor people in peace.
An impending inheritance, a vengeful relative, and a determined demon all come together to make the family's life a malestrom of malevolence. In the meantime, we learn some tidbits about the family's ancestry, discover the provenance of that large diamond in the front hall, and most intriguing of all, we get a glimpse into who and what our favorite nanny is.
Oh, and along the way, there's some time-traveling, as well as some yoga.
I could have done without Knot's fondness for poo, but Gliori's world is so fascinatingly insane that I'll overlook it. Can't wait to read more!
Considering this was the original end to the series it was rounded off nicely. Mrs McLachlan wasn't the only saviour in this story, infact she had all but met her match. Pandora and Titus manage to avoid causing too much trouble, instead they appear to be on the recieving end of it. More of the family's secrets get revealed in this original finale, ones of the past and the present.
Pure Dead Brilliant by @debi_gliori is a science fiction book, about a family that has an elderly ancestor in the kitchen freezer, some beasts in the dungeon, and for a month, they have some witch colleagues with a demon to be the cherry on top. The action-filled tale is full of chapters that are filled with nonsense as well as funny, amusingly scary bits and has a normal family turn into something that comes out of a storybook about monsters. Bringing out the hilarity in all the readers but also those chills in the back you get sometimes. Written by Scottish writer Debi Gliori, it is one of her first novels and the third book of the StregaSchloss series. The amazing book has talking beasts which also are some mythical monsters, such as a dragon called Ffup, which paints her nails, and has a baby dragon called Nestor. There are many other creatures such as a centaur, a yeti, and a griffin. When reading the book, emotional relationships are seen to be endured between the family and the beasts. At the start, the tension is captured between the siblings especially Pandora and her brother Titus as he is going to inherit a lot of money. A terrifying, tense, nerve-racking situation befalls near the end and there is a lot of drama adding to the story. It is written very well as a different kind of drama occurs in the story. In the end, a life-changing announcement is made and there is marriage between the beasts. For this was amazing, I like to suggest all to read once.
I liked this one although not a fan of the time travelling. I still cant get over the fact that the baby is called Damp! What a name to go though life with.
I feel like Ffup really does steel the show in this one and it resonates all the more with me after having my own kids, the humour really does cater to parents just as much as it's target audience.
Book 3 in the series - such an enjoyable, quirky and fast-paced story filled with magic ✨ Written for kids, but great for big-kids who want an escape from the real-world 🥰
In fine form, this fun and fiendish series that still reminds me of a weird amalgamation of the Addams Family, Disney's "Mary Poppins," and Lemony Snicket, is on its third volume and a good read.
Titus is dealing with his cursed inheritance, Pandora is worried she has lost her brother forever, Damp is discovering her magic powers, a demon is stalking the family in hopes of gaining Titus and Damp's souls and the precious Chronostone. Baci has invited her entire fellow witch class to the Strega-Schloss home, Ffupp and her paramour are working out their differences, and to top it all off, there will soon be a new addition to the family.

I read the first three of this series a few years back when starling was smaller. I happened to see there were at least three more that had come out since then and thought I might do a little fun children's book reading. I didn't realize at first I had read this one before, actually, but it's good to get back into the swing of the series. a sort of addams family with italian roots living in scotland, they are fairly intricately plotted. there are a bit too many poop jokes for my taste but I have to consider I am not the intended audience. much like the addams family, a story of family closeness with a weird setting, although the father in these is cranky, not like gomez addams.
This was a fun book to read. I found myself living Titus even more than I did in the other books and I even found myself loving tarantella the spider and normally I hate spiders. The characters developed so much more in this book than the first two. There was great adventures that the whole Strega Borgia family had. I defiantly recommend this book to everyone.
Childhood read once again. I picked this up in a bookstore in Scotland when I was around 9. It's part of a series but still quite easy to follow since there are only 2 I've ever read and I still love them. Black comedy for kids. So Scottish. Debi Gliori is wonderful - in name and in skills! 3* stars.
Personally, three and a half stars. Didn't like the history flashbacks so much, but the present-day gadgets were cool! It goes a little deeper and darker than the previous two books, and it's less funny.
Compared to the first two books, I thought this one was much better. It kept my attention and I only put it down to sleep and eat. lol I hope this means that the series will keep getting better and better! :)
Wow! there is a lot going on in this book. I'm going to say TOO much going on in this book. I'm an adult, and I had a hard time keeping the strings of stories from tangling up. Still, it was a very entertaining book.
this book was so so so good!!! it was super funny and really cooly magical...i hope you know what i mean.Debi Gliori did a really great job on this book...cant wait to read the whole series!!!
