Dangerous Pride is an historical romance set in 18th century Scotland.
Lachlan Forbes has always been a part of Catriona Ogilvy's life, and she has loved him for as long as she can remember. Separated by duty, deception and clan conflicts, she fears it is a love that can never be realized.
Injured in the massacre at Glencoe, Lachlan has emotional and physical scars that make him doubt his value as a man and husband. Bound by honor to marry a woman he doesn’t love, he is forced to confront his feelings for Catriona as she matures into a beautiful, compassionate and fearless woman he fears he will never deserve.
Set against the backdrop of historical Scotland and the Jacobite conflict, Lachlan and Catriona must overcome treachery, murder and deceit to be together.
Dangerous Pride is the story of two people who struggle to set aside their fears to explore passions they are unable to deny.
This book was fantastic. The story was filled with action and some suspense and the characters were to die for. They were well developed and I actually cared about what happened to them.
The story is set in Scotland in the early 1700s and focuses around Lachlan and Catriona and their clans.
Lachlan is betrothed to Catriona's sister for the sake of uniting the clans, Elizabeth and let's just say the relationship didn't work out. *No spoilers*. Fast forward some years and lots of drama later, he ends up Catriona who he thinks does not want to be with him and he's not so sure he wants to be with her, either but he thinks it can work. She has stipulations and he agrees to them and they get married.
I have to love Catriona. She'd never been treated well by her family and when something real came along, she couldn't accept it and wondered about Lachlan's sincerity. She was indeed an innocent and I think she may have seen herself as unlovable even though she'd loved Lachlan since they were children.
Flip this around and Lachlan thinks he's unlovable because he has a disfigured hand and he thinks he's inept at protecting the people he loves. The reality of that was he was a very handsome, able man that just didn't see it in himself all of the time.
I knew there was something fishy about Niall, too but we don't find out the truth about that until the end of the book. There was mystery involved there, too. I had my suspicions about it but I wasn't sure until it was revealed.
I've read lots of romances in my day and I don't think I've read a love scene that was so well written as the first time for Lachlan and Catriona. It isn't very often that a scene like that takes my breath away and the way he treated her was beyond reproach. It was so sweet and quite an awakening for them, especially her. It was a great scene.
There were some wrong word uses in the book but they weren't bad enough to take away from the story unlike some other books I've read. The story and the characters were solid and carried the book.
I was long overdue for reading a book this good. It was done with style and feeling and those two work so well together. Way to go, Eve Cameron!
Engaging and gratifying, with a lot of excitement.
I received a copy of this book from Story Cartel, and I’m glad I did. Although the book was rather long, I read it all in one day, only stopping when I had to.
I was drawn to the characters and their stories – individually and as a couple. Their development was believable, and their flaws loveable. The author did an exceptional job at making them seem real.
There was a lot of drama throughout the book, all revealed at an enjoyable pace. I never felt overwhelmed by the action, and never bored with the inaction. It was a very satifying balance.
I was also drawn in by the secondary characters, so much so that I’m hoping this book is a part of a series. I’d liked to read the outcome of some of their stories.
I definitely recommend this book to romance lovers, and anyone else who enjoys a good book.
Enjoyed the story and the characters. I would have rated it more than 3 stars except there were so many errors in the e-book version it made the flow of the story difficult. The hero was fierce, protective, and eventually overcomes his pride and realizes he is in love. The heroine is a survivor and headstrong--trying very hard to protect herself from getting hurt again. An entertaining Highland love story.
I initially gave this, book 3 stars, but don't feel I should penalize author for typos. (I read it as an e-book). The story was well written and author did well allowing reader to understand thought processes of both the hero and heroine.
Overall, a fast paced book that kept my interest. Several plot twists added intrigue and suspense. The main characters were well developed and there was good historical detail.
The book showed how siblings could be treated so differently during that period of time, depending on their birth order.
I think Lachlan was more than patient with Catriona while she discovered her strengths and her role in her husband's life. Typical ending but a good one.
3.5 stars. I enjoyed the first half of the book much more than the second half, as it became more like the usual historical romance story, in which Catriona has insecurities and difficulty believing that Lachlan actually loves her, even after experiencing several instances which prove his love. In addition, parts later in the story were predictable.
