At a Friday-night party in New Jersey, sixteen year old Jesse Tynan witnesses a murder of a young girl, and witnesses a skyrunner—a ghost-like insect apparition—emerge for the first time. Then the body of the murdered girl spontaneously burns to ashes, leaving no evidence, but the skyrunner proves to be a much bigger problem. It's a manifestation of negative emotion from a parallel universe; the "Otherworld" where our emotions affect our other selves.

When Jesse teams up with unlikely companion Ashton Blake, he's not only introduced to the Otherworld, he's trapped there! Jesse's journey crosses paths with many memorable faces as he searches for a way back home to protect his grandmother, and does all he can to escape the prowls of a dangerous witch.

The whole thing becomes a giant death trap at the center of an elaborate 'Trick.'

Gritty, exhilarating, and utterly gripping, Stacey T. Hunt's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride of pure adrenaline.

This book really stands out. I'm usually really wary around science fiction (no idea). I read this one sometime around 2013 and re-read again this year and after reading so many books from this genre, I still liked this book.

Yes, this book was fast-paced and cliched at some points but this book was also one of a kind because I didn't have any problems with the triteness of the book. I even enjoyed it. I really related with Jesse's character and the prosthetic was a nice twist to his appearance. I love adventures where you leave your old life behind and return a changed person and if you love them too (bet you do) I don't think Trick will disappoint since it's an awesome story.

I also think that if Trick had an adult MC and more violence and things-that-make-you blush scenes, it would be the best book ever. Oh well.

Anyways, you must definitely give this book a try. It's really cute and adorable and sometimes, and each and every character is unique and portrayed so differently, yet they complement each other and the story so well. The idea behind the skyrunners was also very well done, and Ember was particularly evil and very cool in this. Stacey's writing has matured incredibly since her Cascade Adventures days, and I'm happy to say I will most likely be reading the next book if I see it around.

I highly recommend that you read "Trick" Written by Stacey T. Hunt and tell all your friends and family about this amazing tale! I loved this book!
The story is about a teen age boy named Jesse who meets a beautiful teen girl named Emberlee who invites him to a party. Unfortunately he witnesses a murder there, but mysteriously the body crumbles into ash. Then his grandmother get kidnapped by an otherworldly glowing-blue monster. Jesse's simple world around him is completely turned upside down. Nothing is as it seems. With the help of his new friend Ashton, he has to find a way to rescue his grandmother and now defeat the beautiful teen Emberlee who turns out is a witch. This is a story that will continue to surprise you! Stacey T. Hunt truly has a gift to be able to write not only this book but so many others.

Oh. My. GOD!

Riveting. Positively riveting. So many twists! So many turns! So many gasps! I don’t know how Stacey does it, but she expertly navigates through a variety of characters and plots and subplots (and ROMANCE!) and creates such an amazing STORY that I’m completely swept up and CANNOT PUT IT DOWN UNTIL I’VE CONSUMED EVERY LAST WORD.

Seriously. I told myself I would only read a few pages while I ate dinner. And then, once I realized I was 82 pages in, I gave up all pretense of getting anything else done and settled more comfortably into my papasan chair. I am so glad I was able to get an ARC.

And this may be the hardest part. There is NO SECOND BOOK. As in, right next to me, right now, at this very moment, available to read. What. Am. I. Supposed. To. Do. With. Myself. Now?!!? Do I really have to wait until Christmas for the next installment?!!?

For all of you Stacey T. Hunt fans out there patiently (or maybe not-so-patiently) waiting to read Trick, don’t worry, it delivers. Oh, it most CERTAINLY delivers.

While the book does fall prey to the usual clichés of YA, those mostly work in its favor. Giving the main character a prosthetic was a good choice, leading to quite a few twists on the usual themes that kept the book from becoming too trite. I've passed my copy along to my nieces. We'll see if they have anything to add.

The major flaw about this book is the frequency of grammatical errors, but I decided to forgive that. I forgive it because if this is not the author's first story it has to be an early one. That is not enough by itself to forgive the grammatical errors. What makes it forgiveable is the obvious reason that it has to be such an early work of the author. After looking at the copyright date and some of the biographical information about the author it is apparent that she was only sixteen years old when the book was copyrighted. Add that to the otherwise high quality of the writing and it is hard to deny that Stacey Hunt is something of a prodigy. The story is well plotted and suspenseful and on par with a lot of best selling thrillers. Most writers at her age are still turning in barely readable essays in English class for the teacher to mark up in red ink. Given those circumstances the grammatical errors pale and they are only occasional anyway. I have a feeling that Stacey Hunt will become a rather well known author in the future if only she can hone her writing abilities and break out of the vanity publishing ghetto. I definitely wish her well and hope that I will soon see a book by her published by one of the major publishers.

I loved this book. I'm not going to give away any spoilers but it reminds me of one of my favorite books Neverwhere by Niel Gaiman, it has the same quality and similar other world aspect. I highly recommend this book to everyone. I can't wait to start book 2. Stacey is a true talent and to have written this at such a young age with this kind of quality, I'm blown away. Keep an eye on her folks she will be a big name in story telling soon. Waiting for her new book Game of Nightmares also. No Rush I know your still finishing school but I wanna read it! Favorite character by the way Ragnar.

I didn't really want to write a review for this one, because there are other reviews that are pretty much what I would say as well, but nonetheless, I loved this book a lot.

I suggest you read the free prequel, which is actually really good! I think it's best to read it after you've read maybe a chapter or two of Trick first, so you can get an idea of who's who - that's what I did, although I hadn't planned it that way.
