From Book 1: Levi Carr is captain of the Roxboro University Lions hockey team. His rival is James Wayne University and their captain, Trevor McCarthy. After an incident in high school and his mother’s death, Levi does whatever he can to make McCarthy’s life a little harder. When leaving the rivaling campus one night, Levi meets one person who can unknowingly help him mess with McCarthy.

My one job in this is to mess with McCarthy’s head and all it has done is mess with mine.

Presley McCarthy lives in the shadow of her twin brother, Trevor. After being separated when their parents divorced, all Presley heard about was Levi Carr being a bully to Trevor. Now in college, Presley is trying to be her own person, but when she meets Levi Carr, it all changes. But will the changes be good or bad?

He is nothing like my brother described. Maybe I’ve been wrong all along.

BREAKAWAY (THE PENALTY KILL 1) by LINDSAY PAIGE & MARY SMITH

I dig a story that involves sports in it or characters that are jocks and this one has both. I am not familiar with hockey so this story gives more appeal to me. I’ve come across this book in one of the blogs I follow and after reading the synopsis, I knew I had to read it. I added this to my to-read list in GR and after a day, decided to read it.

Lindsay & Mary wrote this book beautifully. Yes, the plot seems predictable but IDC, I like how it was written and how the story makes you want to read more and more. The characters are definitely interesting and the mystery behind them and their past that seems to unravel in the present is sooooo enticing. You’re reading it and you have this feeling that you know what happens next but there’s still that thrill that you can’t deny and it makes the whole journey worth while.

Th ending was definitely a cliffhanger but not a cliffhanger that you want to punch someone. At least for me. I definitely want more but this is a trilogy so I expect that the next book will have more depth and the characters will experience more drama that will give us readers a more awesome read. :)

So I’ve never been a hockey fan, but the first thing I wanted to do after reading this book was to watch a game:) And I’m sure I’m not the only person who fell in love with Levi:) It’s impossible not to like the story: a well-written and easy-to-read work. I swallowed it at a sitting, and I didn’t regret a second spent with the characters. They are so charming and funny that I’m sure you will love them at first sight:) Not to mention the intensity of every moment Levi and Pressley spent together – hot, hot, hot! Well, yes, I LOVED the book, and I can’t wait to read the next part.

Luego tenemos a Presley.

Trevor no aporta absolutamente nada.

Loved this book! I happen to be a huge fan of hockey romance books but lately have had a hard time finding any good ones I haven’t already read. So, this was a nice surprise. This was not only a hockey romance but also a forbidden love themed book as well. It is part of a series but has NO cliffhangers.

Levi Carr is the captain of his University hockey team and his rival team was captained by Trevor McCarthy, whom he had history with already. Levi Carr really blamed Trevor for a lot of the hurt he endured while in high school and for taking his captain’s position on the high school team when he moved to his school. Let’s just say Levi can really hold a grudge. He does some mean “pranks” on Trevor and his team and has regular verbal and physical fights with Trevor on and off the ice.

Presley McCarthy doesn’t have it as easy as her brother. When Presley and Trevor’s parents split while they were in high school they were separated. Presley was tired of being in her brother’s shadow and wanted to go out on her own. Her parent s always seemed to always concentrate on Trevor instead of her. She always heard about Trevor being bullied in high school by a guy named Trevor but had never seen or met him before. So when they first met she didn’t know the connection to her brother at first.

Levi thought Presley was beautiful but when he found out she was the sister of his rival he saw her as a useful opportunity to really get to Trevor. He planned to use her and get her to fall in love with him then drop her and leave her brother to pick up the pieces. But things have a funny way of turning around on you…

Levi tried to keep the relationship strictly a revenge ploy but he started to care for Presley. Presley wanted nothing to do with Levi once she found out who he was but slowly started to like him the more he pursued her. Levi was succeeding in tearing her and her brother’s relationship apart just by hanging around her and for the time being that was good enough for him. But would he ultimately be able to go through with the plan? Or would Presley figure out his plan making Levi lose the best thing he ever had?

I loved everything about this book. It had some sexy hockey players and a love born from revenge. The funny thing was that the whole rivalry between Levi and Trevor could have been easily prevented if the guys would have just talked a long time ago, but we all know how impossible it is to get a guy to talk to another guy about their feelings. I rated this book at 4-4.5 Stars and cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Downloaded the book when it was free and decided to see what it was about. I mean I knew it had something. To do with a hockey player so I figured heck ya.
I actually really enjoyed the book. Main characters...Levi, Presley and Trevor.

Levi is not only a talented, mouth watering hockey star he is also a smart one. Hockey is his life but he also is a chemistry major.

Trevor is Levi's rival and has been since high school. He also plays hockey but on a different team. Levi has hated Trevor for years and always looks for ways to get to him. And the feelings are mutual Trevor hates Levi.

Presley is Trevor's twin sister. A a sister that Levi didn't know Trevor had and now he has devised a plan to get at Trevor. It involves using Presley but he is about to dive into something he wasn't prepared for.

This book had me giving a evil laugh sorta because the player is gonna get played. I even thought Levi was bad but there is definitely a different side to him and you cannot help but fall for him. He draws you in and you are hooked. His intentions may of started off wrong but they quickly get turned around. I think Presley and Levi are great together. She has some crazy parents and a dad that doesn't seem to really notice her but Levi notices everything about her and she is drawn to that. Levi doesn't talk about his last but he opens up to Presley and he is even baffled by it.

It was a quick read but packed with a great love story. Now the ending had my eyes bulging from my head because it just stopped abruptly. So now I'm gonna have to find the next book.

Kudos to the author.

This book was rather disappointing to me. It sounded like it would be a fairly interesting read, and parts of it were ok, but overall it just fell very flat for me.

I didn't like Levi and my opinion of him didn't change much throughout the book. His reasons for hating Trevor were silly. I understood that it might have been upsetting when it happened, but the lasting effect just didn't stick.

I also didn't like the development of Levi and Presley's relationship. There should have been more build up. They never really got to know each other. And once they said I love you it was just too overused. They just didn't seem like the people that would do that so it hugged me.

The ending was too neatly wrapped up and some of the events just didn't make sense. I was not a huge fan of the writing. It was too stilted and I had I hard time getting into a flow with it. Not a book for me I suppose.

The biggest problem I had about this book was how it degraded women. Puck Bunnies. Seriously? And the main female character Presley spends the book being against those Puck Bunnies but proving she was one by the end. Levi was a jackass sleeping around with Puck Bunnies. They TRULY deserved each other. I wouldn't have finished this book if it weren't for a reading challenge. Waste of time otherwise!

Wow, such an amazing story between Levi and Presley. It may have started out rocky. Yes Levi wants to get back at his rival Trevor by getting with his twin sister Presley. Presley doesn't know if should get with him because Trevor hates him and vice versa. It was great to see how there relationship developed.. Can't wait to continue with this series.

Guys, I just read this book indicate by Ka Nobre, an person extremely attuned to the literary news. Thank you for your statement, Ka, you gave me a gift! I liked this book too much, but I regret to inform that it not yet reached the Brazilian Market. So stay tuned, as you leave you stay smart.

In fact this is one of those books that you think so: another trilogy, another one of those books that gets you a slave, or just feels liberated after ending the series. But this is yummy too much!!!

The story revolves around the game of hockey. Or rather, hockey players. For those who do not know, is that game on nice with skates and a stick in a different format. The game is a usually dynamic, but the game was not hooked me, of course. It was the story, which is very interesting. And i’ll start looking this game with different eyes... lol.

The good guy is Levi Carr, a boy who is a only son of super loving parentes, whose mathers was a fervent hockey fan and passed that same love for the game to her son. He was captain of the hockey team in high school, and one day loses his title of captain for his oponente, Trevor |McCarthy. This guy was a pain in the ass of the boy. Besides not being friends, the guy still comes and takes his place on the team. And to make matters worse, the next day he loses his position and tell him to his mother, she wakes up dead. She was sick and he did not know the severity of your situation. And Levi transfers to McCarthy the blame his mother died thinking that his son failed in it task to be the team captain. It seems silly, but what brand the book is how the character matures throughout the book and acknowledge their mistakes and their faults, without trying to find a guilty for her.

The girl is Presley, twin sister of McCarthy. She, on the other hand, is a girl who suffered from parental separation, as this caused the Split between the brothers, who were by then very close, as almost all are twins. And the father had eyes only for his son. What hurt her enormously. The scenes where she meets her father are very interesting and the course of this relationship is also curious.

The book catches fire after Levi knows the sister of his rival at a party. Years passed after high school, they are in college and are captains of rival teams. The girl goes to a party watching her friends who is dating one the players on the team of good guy and meet for the first time. Levi sees the opportunity at that time to use Presley against brother. Put it up, and that joke falls in love with her for real. And it’s reciprocated. And that’s where the situation is sinister. Because it starts to curl when he finds himself stuck in the dilemma between love and trajectory plotted revenge.

The book would be a book of good guy seeking revenge using the girl, but it was the behavior of the characters, so striking. Convincing dialogues. And how he recognizes his mistakes and go from there. He knows he’s wrong, you know who has a huge shit, and how he finds a way that? Recognizing the error. Do not blame anyone else but himself. And the final action taken by surprise. Like I said, it’s about building relationships and how we view things. Worth a read. What kills is standing waiting for the rest of the series.

OMG! i need to search my kindle more often for books i haven't read yet.. WOW this book does not disappoint. Well, except for the mild cliff hanger it was a great book!

this book was a short quick read with duel POV'S. It follows two people one being Levi Carr, and the other being Presley. This new adult book will have you hating Levi and loving him, and then confused...

Levi had it all. A great family, captain of the hockey team at high school, and a great future in college and possible the NHL. That all changed when a new kid came to school. That kid was Trevor. He stole the Captain spot from Levi, and to add insult to injury his hot popular girlfriend. This will start the biggest war yet.

Levi is now in college where he is the captain of his team, and is offered to play for the penguins next year. He loves to mess with Trevor still. he is the captain of his rival team. One night while his team mates and him were messing with their equipment he saw a pretty woman. His team mates told him that this girl was named Presley and she was Trevor's twin sister.. Levi had a light bulb moment.. well you can see where this story is going don't you :) Levi was going to make Trevor mad, and also break a girls heart...

Presley has a twin brother. She loves him, but she gets no attention from her family. her family is all caught up his Trevor's hockey career. She is in college for pre- law and gets straight A's. The only thing she gets from her family is a envelope full of money and not even a hug. The only thing she had going for her was that Trevor was her best friend and listened to her, and also tried to get her family to join in on a bunch of family conversations. well, her best friend Marley asked her to go to a party because her new boyfriend was at the rival college. She spotted Levi. Even though she found him very attractive she couldn't let anyone know. This guy made her brother's life hell, and she knew he was off limits. That didn't stop Levi from continuing his game. So, After Presley lost a bet she had to take him to dinner with her best friend and boyfriend.
This is were is starts to get interesting. Levi and Presley relationship starts to bud into a full blown relationship. Levi keeps telling himself that he is going to leave her and his plan is in full swing. That is until Presley keeps surprising him, and making it hard for him to leave. The only thing he likes is the look on Trevor's face when he caught him in her apartment. Levi will realize how bad Presley has it in her family, and he will want to make it better. Levi will also start to break down walls and tell Presley all his darkest secrets.. just when you think things couldn't get more hot, steamy, and wonderful they pull in a big twist that will leave your mouth dropping and asking yourself what just happened.
lets just say keep your friends close and your Emmey's closer.. things will backfire for an already budding plan, and then relationships will be tested and new friendships will be made.. this book will not disappoint you.

This was such a surprisingly good book..

I'm not much of a sport fan myself especially in Fiction. However, what interested me was the characters themselves beyond the sport. Levi and Presley started on the wrong foot but soon they realize people are more complicated than just perceived judgments. Levi's intentions to get close to Presley wasn't honorable at first but he grows to care. Presley too wasn't immune to gossip about Levi but she manages to uncover Levi's true nature and slip under his pretense.

I loved their dynamic most of the story.

Now, what I didn't like much was the other characters (except Levi's dad, he's the sweetest <3). Trevor, Pres's twin brother and father lacked any deep emotional development. Trevor spent most of the time threatening & pressuring Pres to leave Levi, I know that's because he does cares but he get annoying. Pres's father too was not pleasant. He favors Trevor all the time and practically ignores her and one little scene at the end is supposed to make her forgive and forget?? I don't know. That's not in my books. I was waiting for Pres to grow a pair and tell him how she feels but she didn't :(

Anyways, this was a really good story and I liked the writing style too.. others grievances are forgotten xD

Pretty cute read actually. It started off a little slower, and I wasn't sure if I would get into it. The writing could be a bit clunky at times. But I really liked the depth that we got from both characters....there's a lot more to Levi than I was expecting. I found his cocky/jerk side a bit harder to rationalize at times, but then sometimes one person can open your mind and make you take a look at yourself. I liked how they resolved their trials....it wasn't too easy or pat (like a pat answer, I can't figure out the word I want). Should be interesting to see where this goes. I'll probably read the next one, this couple was pretty adorable, and I want to see what happens with them.

**2.5**

I'm not sure how I got through the first half of this book. The hero is petty, short-tempered, arrogant and just generally a douche. He hates the guy who stole his captaincy in high school and plans to seduce his sister to get back at him. And while some people see cockiness as charming, I never have, so I don't even understand why she fell for him.

I will say though that once he realized he was in love with her and had to confront his douche-ness, he became a lot more likable and I starting enjoying the book more. Overall though, still only mediocre.

Loved the story of Levi and Presley. It is refreshing to read a story about young adults in college but still feel the maturity of the book. Sometimes I get nervous to read books about characters in college because I am so far removed from the life style now. However, I felt Lindsay and Mary did a nice job of appealing to older audiences in the story. It is truly a story about love and the obstacles we must overcome. Just read book 2 and it was just as good! Can't wait for the novella and book3 !!! :)

I guess I give it a 3.4 not really earning enough to be rounded off to 4. I am sucker for sports stories with romance mixed into it so I was kind of disappointed with this. It was more of plotting, revenge and getting even than the actual hockey. I also found the conflicts a little bit anti-climactic. I know it's not a standalone and maybe there's more in the next book but let's see it I get to read the 2nd one.

Lindsey Paige and Mary Smith start us on a new series. I've been fortunate enough to read a beta version and I see success in their futures. Characters to love, some to hate. All well drawn and believable. Don't want to say much until they are published, but you want to read this book, and I have a new book crush. LOL

I love this story and can't wait for more. Levi finally finds his match in a fiery red head named Presley the only problem she is the twin of his bitter rival who took his Captain spot away after his mother died. At first he want to use her to get back at him but attraction and trust wins out leaving him blindsided and fighting for his girl.

Sometimes revenge is not so sweet. Just as Levi is ready to exact his revenge on his rival McCarthy things change in his world. Actually his world goes upside down and he has to figure out how to deal with it. It being his emotions, his past, and his rival. Great book with a cliffhanger looking forward to reading the next book.

Hockey is currently my favorite sport, so I was really excited when I came across this book. I thought the romance was kind of sweet, but I thought it was too instant and I didn't like the reason why Levi started it. There was also way too much foul language and steamy scenes for my liking, but only took off 1 star for this.

What did I just read?!
This book was by far the worst book I’ve ever read. So many things wrong with it.

I had such high hopes for this. The plot sounded interesting, a Romeo and Juliet of hockey. Sad to say it’s anything but that. There are so many plot holes in this story and the characters are so underdeveloped that to me it almost feels like the author just did some free writing and called it good. The story moved way to fast. Within the first chapter we cover a week of the story. Why?!? Not to mention the writing was very telling and not showing. The author clearly has never seen or followed hockey to know when they play games and what or how to write the damn games either. So disappointing.

Levi is a complete ass with little to no regards to women and frankly it’s degrading. He’s petty, immature and a little too full of himself.

Presley is not better. She might like a strong independent woman, but she lets the men in her life call her shots. She too is childish and immature.

Now, their relationship. There is nothing there. They went from ‘i hate you’ to ‘do me now!’ in no time. It’s was poorly developed, feeling totally fake, and not relatable what so ever.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I've now read a few of Lindsay's books and each time I find another adventure to follow and want more of. One of my favorite things about her is that she's a lover of ice hockey. She not only finds a way to include it in some of her stories but you can find the passion for the games and for writing in each of her books. I highly recommend this to readers who enjoy sports and romance. She has found a way to blend them both seamlessly without going overboard on either topic. Even though I'm a Caps fan and she is a Penguins fan I will let it slide, why? Because when I was a kid I loved the Penguins too, in fact my favorite goalie Tom Barrasso of all time played for them and still to this day he has a special spot in my heart and he was one of the reasons I wanted to be a goalie.
