o•mis•sion -Something left out, not done, or neglected.
Strong and resilient, Payton has always been able to pick up the pieces of her tragic life and move on, but not without hesitance when it came to letting others in. Until recently, she’s done it alone, but now there’s Garrett, and he wants nothing more than to be in her life. She is finally finding it easier to leave the hurt and fear behind her for good.
Harboring secrets of his own, Garrett knows it is best to stay away from Payton, but knowing and doing are two different things, and he just can’t seem to stay away from her.
An unexpected encounter brought Garrett into Payton’s life. Mutual attraction and eventually love has kept him there, but will secrets and lies prove to be too much for them both? What happens when Payton's past comes back to haunt her? Will this tear them apart forever?
Taryn is a USA Today Bestselling Author who is also a lover of books and wine, usually enjoying them together. Writing has been a way for her to step away from chaotic reality and live a bit through her fun and sometimes damaged characters. You will almost always find a Happy Ever After at the end of her stories. She can't help it, it's an addiction. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family, but cherishes those quiet nights after everyone is asleep when she can curl up on the couch to read with her geriatric dog. (Shh, don't tell...He's not supposed to be on the couch.)
Basically, this book didn't do it for me on many levels. I didn't like the heroine at all. She was closed off and pissed off the entire book. I just didn't see the appeal. I just finished and I can't even remember her name. Ah, yes, it's Payton. And poor Garrett was a poster child for Codependents Anonymous. I know other books handle tough subjects and make it work and this one just missed the mark, at least for me it did. Two other big issues were the unnecessary recording of minutiae that in no way advanced the story, such as stocking the bar and her walks home, for instance. The second issue was endless telling and not showing, and then NOT telling when the POV changed.
Enough, this just wasn't my cuppa tea.

Sometimes walls aren't built to keep people out... sometimes they are built to see who is strong enough to bring them down.
I loved this book!! For such a short book, only about 180 pages, Taryn Plendl did an amazing job of making me fall in love with Payton and with Garrett and even all of the secondary characters. So full of emotions right until the end!!
4-1/2 Gut-wrenching stars. Wow. This book tears your heart out with pain but also shows you the beauty and love that heals that pain. Patrick's conversation with Jackson made me cry. Loved it.
Favorite quotes: “Payton, I bet the skeletons in my closet could kick the shit out of the skeletons in yours.”
The worst part isn't just knowing I was lied to, but knowing that I wasn’t worth the truth.
Garrett took my hands in his. “Look at me, Payton. I am not perfect, but I love my family without hesitation. I would sacrifice everything for them. The happiness and well-being of my family always comes first.” I nodded. “But you also need to realize that I love you, and as far as I’m concerned, you are my family, too, so that applies to you. You have to trust me.” I couldn’t believe what he just said. “Don't tell me to trust you, show me I can. Don't tell me you will be there for me, be there. And don't tell me you’re sorry, because you’ve already shown me that you are. I love you, too, Garrett.”
Together, all three of us were learning that it wasn’t healthy to hold on to the past, especially if it hurts. Let go, move on, and be happy with what life has given you. Look around and count your blessings. Payton had told us that she held her past close to her heart, but not for the pain. Only because it reminded her that she was a strong person. And she was.
To be honest, I didn't finish the book. But I just couldn't get into it. I strive to finish every book I start, but I just couldn't do it.
I think what made it difficult for me to continue was the way the story was written. I don't really like to read about the everyday mundane things characters are doing. An example of this would be Payton coming home to her apartment and giving the blow by blow steps of her nighttime routine, such as: making tea, then sitting down, flipping through a magazine, putting the tea cup down, then change clothes...I'm sure you get the picture. I also had a hard time with the use of "I". It's probably just me, but when I read a lot of "I did this", "I woke up", "I looked here", or "I think this".. I start to feel disconnected and like I'm just reading a description of a characters movements like a robot. It became too difficult to engage and care about the characters, which then led to my not wanting to invest time into finishing Payton and Garrett's story.
I truly hate to leave this unfinished, but with many books TBR, I needed to spend my time trying to get to others.
She gets attacked walking home from work by his brother. It's enough to hook me from the start. But that's where the exciting ends. There isn't much more to the story. He pursues her, she finally lets him, the truth comes out, they break up, they get back together. Not a bad story, but not an exciting one either.
Not how your typical love story starts out but that's what makes this different. I loved how Garrett fought for those he felt were family and the love he had for his brother. He would do anything for who he loved. I felt for her but then hoped she would accept Garrett. Of course, twists/turns happen but it was worth it to read how the story ends. Liked this alot
I enjoyed this story. It was quick, and draws you in. I wanted to know more about Payton and why she was so closed off. By the end you understand why she had trouble letting Garrett in. Garrett had to work to prove to her he was there for her, regardless of her past, but considering their beginning he has his work cut out for him. I liked the tug of war of emotions and watching their journey.
What a really nice love story. Payton and Garrett were two troubled people who happen to find themselves at the right time. Loved the simplicity of the story but it held your interest. Very touching at times. Beautifully, well written story!
It was kind of eh, for me. I was glad for the entertainment of having something to read but it was generally unremarkable. going back through my Kindle I had to re read the synopsis to remember the story to review it here. it was free, I might have been disappointed otherwise.
This is the kind of story I love! Despite the tragedy in both Garrett and Payton's lives they learn to love and trust and there is a happily ever after for them. Loved this book!
I stepped away from it because it was so telling- like reading a list of activities and had no desire to return. Because I only made it to 14% I didn't think it was fair to rate it.
short easy read. Payton has to look out for herself. She has built a dungeon around herself not letting anyone in. Then Garrett comes along and starts breaking away at her dungeon.
