Rate this book
In 2005, twenty year-old Joseph Miles went in search of a cure for a disease he was convinced was turning him into a monster. The result was a killing spree that left a string of dismembered and cannibalized bodies from San Francisco to Seattle. Eight years later, after being tried and sentenced to life in prison, Joseph is still searching for a cure. To do so, he must first escape from super maximum security prison where he has been involved in underground death matches sponsored by the prison guards and has been targeted by two of the prison's most dangerous inmates.

Joseph enlists the aid of a lonely female guard with a history of inappropriate behavior with inmates, and a young model named Selene whom Joseph met in art class when he was still a psychology student. She has followed him obsessively over the years and will do anything to help Joseph escape. But could Selene be even more dangerous and twisted than Joseph Miles? Is she really trying to help him find a cure or does she have darker motivations?

I enjoyed Prey Drive by Wrath James White immensely.
This book is Succulent Prey’s sequel, that I loved as well.
Joseph Miles is my favorite fictional cannibal serial killer.
In this story, Joe tried to fight his "curse". He doesn’t want to be a monster, he wants to be able to blend in society without his ravenous urges. Will he succeed? I won’t tell!😄
I found this gruesome, deviant and brutal story captivating.
I highly recommend it, if you can stomach the inimaginable.

This is, by far, my favorite from Wrath that I have read.

Joseph is in prison for well, eating people as we continue from SUCCULENT PREY. Selene, a crazy asf fangirl will do anything to be cursed by Joseph and Cindy, the Correctional Officer who falls in love, and his cousin Dirk, make up a core cast of characters that will be with him until the end… or his/their ends. Sexually thrilling, face paced, and on the edge of your seat drama, makes this a must read!

Wrath has a way of making me hate characters and Selene was no different. I thought it would be Joesph but I ended up liking him so much more in the sequel. The depth of the characters, even the more minor ones, felt rich and fleshed out (pun intended). There are so many hot, slip and slide inducing moments and even more bile inducing ones.

This is my seventh of Wrath’s and I am not sure how he can top it. Everything in it was so methodical and well, perfect. Sequels are usually hit or miss with me, but PREY DRIVE beat out the original. HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND. 10/5.

I think this is the best book I've read in all of 2016. I'm so glad to find out there is a first book. I didn't want it to end. Much to my delight teeth get talked about frequently. I couldn't put this one down.

Six years ago Wrath James White called me a “sick fuck”. True story. I told him how much I dug his writing and his response was to call me a “sick fuck”. He also generously indulged my fanboy nerdiness by signing my copy of his book and and shaking my hand. The book way SUCCULENT PREY and it was fantastic.

About four years after that he published a sequel entitled PREY DRIVE, which I bought as soon as it came out. For some reason, though, I didn’t read it until this week. It’s a stunning and stomach turning work that follows the adventures of cannibal serial killer Joe Miles into maximum security detention. One might think that inside prison the sex, violence and cannibalism would grind to a halt, but this is a Wrath James White novel so, obviously, this isn’t the case.

PREY DRIVE is both an effective sequel and a solid stand-alone novel. The main theme surrounds Joe and his fight to understand and control his need to kill and cannibalize. It’s also an entertaining prison novel, though certainly an over-the-top one that makes no pretence at being realistic.

This book is not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach, and the fact that I enjoyed it so much served as a reminder of how I truly am a sick fuck.

There are a few times in my life when I've so eagerly awaited a book being both published and arriving on my doorstep that I get all jittery with anticipation. And Prey Drive is one of those very books. When it hit my doorstep I ripped through that package like a madman with a thirst to get right into reading it. But instead I decided to read the first part again, seeing as how about three years had passed in a haze and I thought it best to read it before jumping right into Prey Drive. Unless you have a good memory you might want to do the same, though once I started reading it I realized that the visual impact of Wrath's words had stuck with me in the dark recesses of my mind. At least I had the book to stare at while I re-read Succulent Prey, and damn it's a beautiful limited edition!

Before I randomly start blabbing about this book, I should get it out of the way that you can't read this one without having read the first part, Succulent Prey. So if you haven't read it do yourself a favor and get to it!! And I'll do my best not to give away to many if any spoilers for the novel.

First thing that popped into my head as I finished them was how much I felt Wrath has developed since Succulent Prey. The first part is a raw, cruel punch to the head, whereas Prey Drive shows how much he has changed as a story teller. Prey Drive don't get me wrong is another raw, brutal verbal attack, but his style has become more concise and stronger since Succulent Prey was published.

I've found that Wrath has always had an excellent knack for character development and with Prey Drive he really excels in taking the readers on a journey through the mind of Joseph Miles. Most of the novel is set inside a prison, which I feel makes this trek through character development stronger, seeing as there's nowhere for Joseph to go but inside his own head. There's almost a claustrophobic feeling to the way the novel plays out as Joseph Miles tries to regain his humanity and feeds the monster inside him even more.

Just like with Succulent Prey, there is verbal assault on the reader as Wrath mixes in equal parts erotica and violence. These scenes are gut wrenching as Wrath forces the readers mind face down, hard into the viscera and sexuality. Unlike many writers Wrath won't skip around the bush hinting at what is happening, he wants you to know it all. Every last detail. Without a doubt the average reader is going to need a strong stomach and constitution to handle what he describes, but fans of Wrath are waiting for these explicit jaunts through disgusting territories. And honestly I don't, nor can I explain why I'd rather read something like this, other than the fact I want to have a chance to delve deeply into the worse without a chance to turn my head. And I got all of that and more with both novels and the possibility that there may be a third...please Wrath!!

There may be a few copies of this left and I'd grab one, for both the vivid story and the beautiful book it is. Highly recommend to other readers who want fear shoved straight down their throats.

Wrath James White writes very explicit and gory tales this being one of his best. It was wonderful to go back to the world of Joseph Miles, a sick demented thrill ride that lives up to the 1st book Succulent Prey.

Prey Drive is the sequel to Succulent Prey, and it was so delicious. Eight years after Joe's grizzly murders in Succulent Prey, he is found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. He's stuck in Super Max and is still trying to fight his curse. With help from a female guard and Selene, who was briefly in book 1, Joe is planning his escape.

Selene has been obsessed with Joe and won't stop until he is free. She loves him and tries to understand him more by trying to be like him. But does she really love him? Or does she have much darker intentions? Can Joe really love her without trying to eat her?

Joe is my favourite cannibal. Even though he's eating people, there are times you feel for him and root him on. I have to commend Wrath on the way he writes thick women. He makes us feel sexy, desirable, and beautiful. Thank you for that! Joe has excellent taste! I love the jail fights, the carnage, the characters (We need more Jiro), and overall, I love Joe's character! This is my favourite duology and I'm feening for more. Such an excellent book!

This is the sequel to Wrath’s Prey Drive and it was just as good as the first possibly even better but definitely evenly matched!

Joseph Miles, the MMC, honestly is a new bookish boyfriend for me I can’t help but love him!
Joseph believes that he’s gotten a virus some being attacked by a serial killer when he was a young child. Now he has these urges to consume human flesh that only get worse the more he gives in to these urges.
This second book is about Joseph’s time in prison after being caught and his ongoing and changing plan to escape. He also might have a new fan/girlfriend that he didn’t ask for but she may just be crazier than him.

This is gruesome and gory but also sexy and I love that Wrath combines the both beautifully.
I also loved Joseph even more when he filed his teeth down into points to be able to bite into people easier and that should have deterred me from liking him but I only loved his character more. Joseph also knows there’s something wrong with him and wants to be better! Got to love him.

"Prey Drive" by Wrath James White.

In this sequel to "Succulent Prey," eight years have passed since Joseph Miles went on a killing spree that left a string of bodies in his wake, resulting in a sentence of life in prison. Despite being caged like the animal many believe him to be, Joseph is still searching for a cure for his "disease." In order to find the cure he so desperately hopes exists, he'll need to find a way out of prison. Doing so won't be easy, especially with so few people on his side, but Joseph is willing to stop at nothing to help both himself and the future killers of the world.

It's not often that I read a sequel to a story that I end up enjoying more than the first installment, but that's exactly what has happened here. This story tied up so many loose ends, and we as readers learn so much more about Joseph.

Wrath truly knows how to write a story full of imagery and spice. The scenes of cannibalism and erotica imprinted in your mind long after reading. And since completing this story, I have but one question. Is this the end of the line for Joseph's storyline, or will there be another installment in the future to the Prey series?

Excellent book. I love the authors prose and style of writing. Despite the morbid and heinous content, which is deliciously dark and delectably vulgar, the writing is quite beautiful. The author was somehow able to make me feel like I was really in the mind of a sick and twisted serial killer who was conflicted between feeding the beast and finding a cure. Sometimes the hunger is hard to fight, and the idea of both hating and pitying such a monster really messes with you throughout the story. In short, I loved everything about this book and would definitely recommend to my fellow splatterpunks.

It's been a few years since I read the first book, and I was excited to dig into this to hear the end of the story. No matter how long I wait to read a Wrath James White book, it doesn't change the fact that I get queasy every time

There were some awesome parts in this book, and other parts where I couldn't wait to just be finished. It wasn't great but wasn't bad either...?? This is only one of the few extreme horror books that I have read, and there's plenty of blood and guts, but I think some things were just off and didn't really hit for me.

A extreme horror novel that does not hold back on killing, cannibalism and a lot of sex.

Eight years after Joseph Miles was on a murderous rampage to find a cure for his sickness, he is now in prison. Can Joe be rehabilitated? Or will Selene a woman that can not orgasim and wants Joe’s curse, bring out the monster in him again?

More of the same of the first. So if extreme gore, graphic sex mingled with horrific violence, little in the way of plot until the end, and laughable attempts at being deep are all your thing, Prey Drive should be right up your alley.

I loved the first book but this one just had way too much smut for me. Nothing wrong with that, I just prefer gore over smut. I didn’t finish the last quarter of the book because the engorged monster that could shoot semen across a football field lost me. The recipes though, chefs kiss!!

“Second verse, same as the first.”
The sequel to Succulent Prey certainly lives up to its expectations and is as fucked up as I imagined it would be.

Back in the day, the end of 2008, I received my monthly package from Dorchester books, and in it was Succulent Prey, the first book I ever read by Wrath James White. It told the story of Joseph Miles, a poor misunderstood survivor of a violent criminal. Theories introduced here, such as is evil communicable, are reintroduced in the sequel Prey Drive.

Prey Drive has it all, hot cannibal action, buckets of blood and murder. Also, that misunderstood Mr. Miles. Will the good Doctor, find a cure? Or is the Cannibal Killer a menace that will never be rehabilitated. I breezed through the eBook and was left wanting more, then again, that's a true hallmark of a well written book.

No spoilers here, which prevents me from saying something here, but I will leave you all with this. Wrath James White, never disappoints.

The follow up to Succulent Prey but not nearly as good. The joy of the first book was Joseph fighting against his urges and trying to find a cure.

The majority of that is replaced in this book with more kills and more sex. That is fun and all but it just makes this one a horror porn book, not an interesting viewpoint like the first.

I think it's a pretty good sequel. Admittedly I didn't like the ending as much but all in all the novel owns up to the original.
