Framed for a series of brutal murders, rebel-turned-CEO Zack Goldman must go to ground. When he discovers that sexy boutique owner Sloane Swift has a shocking gift—terrifying visions that connect her to his mentor’s missing daughter—he can’t believe her refusal to help him. Nor can he believe he’s actually falling for the frustrating woman.
Their chemistry will either find its perfect equation…
Helping an accused killer ranks low on Sloane’s to-do list, no matter how hot the attraction burns between them. But putting to rest her overwhelming guilt over the missing girl’s fate proves more difficult than she ever imagined...that is, until her heart and conscience begin to align.
…or detonate everything in its path.
As the real killer locks in on Sloane, Zack will stop at nothing to keep her safe. And as they earn each other’s trust—with danger in hot pursuit—they may just lose their hearts in the process…
Misty Dietz loves her man, her kids, kayaking, and Dean Winchester (oh yeah, Supernatural fans unite!). She writes romance, but she reads anything she can get her hands on, usually with her fur baby on her lap.
She spends her days writing sexy, adrenaline-fueled stories, enjoying family and friends, and praying her children don't come home with math homework.
The rating i actually a 4 and 1/2 stars, but I rounded it to 5 because the story was good.
The paranormal element was not over-stressed, but nicely fit into the story. It was made like almost the most natural thing. I like how it was done!
Also the love story was good. It has the feel of an insta-love, but it was not overdone. The hero, Zach, and the heroine, Sloane, were fighting this attraction, but, obviously, cound't not succumb to it! *wink*
Zach is a strong (and yoummy!!!) man who has suffered very much in his life. He was abused by his mother, passed from one to another foster family where he was made a scapegoat, wrongly imprisoned... But his sense of honour and his almost over-the-top sense of responsibility towards those he consider his firends and acquired family is humbling. He think he's responsible for everything: Ann's dissapearence, his mentor's death, his business troubles... Still he cannot deny his attraction towards Sloane, and though he fights it, he also succumbs to it. And what a fall that is! :D
Sloane is damaged too. She's "burdened" by a psychic sense: psychometry. When she touches an object she can see what happened around it. But this "power" has brought her nothing but pain. She feels guilty for all the bad things that happened when she tried to use it. So she decided not to use it.
But life has other ideas about it and when she meets Zach, she cannot control it anymore. There's something that connect the two of them. And it's powerful. They may fight it, but it likes them in an unexpected way: they form a kind of telepathy and she must acknowledge that Zach is her anchor to reality when she has a paychometric episode.
The story is very fast paced and there're many unexpected things happening while they search for Ann: not everything is as it seems!
I liked very much the mystery and sleuthing part. How parts of their respective lives were revealed. How at the end (a very, very suspenseful and surprising end!!!) things clicked together!
So, why 4 and 1/2 stars?
Well, I felt that the responsibility parts were too heavy. They both seem to feel responsible for every single bad thing that ever happened. OK, one can feel responsible for one, two, three things, but not for every and each one!
The plot twists will keep you turning the pages. The steamy romance will have you cranking on the A/C. And yes, Zack really is as yummy as the cover.
What I loved best about COME HELL OR HIGH DESIRE was how mature the hero and heroine are. Both have tormented pasts, and both have tried to move past them and help others in what they do. Sloane doesn’t believe in herself (or her ability), and Zack has been burned from putting his trust in the wrong people. But when they come together, they lift each other up. It’s what gives their fast-track to love its credibility. And what makes this a memorable read.
Zack Goldman was saved by John Samuel. Now that he's dead. Zack is determined to carry out his mentor's last request. He will protect his daughter, Ann. She is pregnant and has suddenly gone missing. He goes to her work place and meets Sloane Swift, her boss. Both are concerned for Ann's safety. Sloane doesn't tell him that she gets visions. She is a psychic. These two have a powerful connection. They need to work together, if they want to survive and stop this madman. Misty Dietz has written a suspenseful story that has plenty of twist and turns. Zack and Sloane are partners in everything. She is a feisty and independent woman but fearful of her gift. Zack had a rough childhood and is afraid to trust. Every character is such a distinct personality that I want to know more about them. This story is so well plotted that you won't suspect who the perpetrator is. I enjoyed the psychic storyline. It added to the suspense. This is a dynamite book! It kept me on the edge of my seat.
Come Hell or High Desire by Misty Dietz was an action and suspense packed story. There is also a paranormal aspect to the story as Sloane and Zach are not only attracted to each other physically but he seems to be an anchor for her psychic abilities. That was a new twist for me that I had never read before.
The twists kept me guessing throughout the book and the end had me gripping my Kindle in tight fists because I wasn't sure how Ms. Dietz was going to give me an HEA. She did and it was perfect.
I loved this book!! It was action packed and had me in the edge of my seat. The twist and turns had my guessing. Awesome job Misty you have a winner! If you like thriller suspense this book delivers! I highly recommend this book!
Action-Packed and Thrilling Since his mentor John's sudden death a year ago, it's been a daily struggle for Zach Goldman to keep up with the construction business he inherited. He's getting by though, clawing his way through. Until someone leaves an inscrutable note on his door one morning. It asks just one short question. "Where is she?"
When Zach figures out John's daughter is missing, he's rocked by self-loathing and fear. He'd promised to take care of the woman who was like a sister to him. Obviously, he failed, but he's going to do everything he can to bring her home.
Boutique shop owner Sloane Swift isn't too concerned when Zach first shows up to ask about her friend and employee Ann. She's too shocked by the pleasant zap to her psychic senses when they touch and too overwhelmed by healthy, normal lust for the gorgeous man. When they meet up at Ann's house later that day, though, Sloane finds out just how bad things really are, for Ann and for her own closely-guarded secrets.
She can tell something very, very bad has happened even before she comes in direct contact with the negative energy around Ann's front door. Actually touching the doorknob hurdles her into a dark and terrifying psychic vision that makes her violently ill. Now she's got to explain the inexplicable to someone who doesn't look real long on embracing a bunch of woo-woo stuff, because one touch tells Sloane that Ann's time is very limited, and if Zach wants to find her, he's going to need Sloane's help to do so. No matter how desperate she is to keep her secrets.

Have you ever read a book that introduced you to a secondary character with such presence on the page that you're desperate for that character to get their own book just so you can spend more time with him or her? Maybe it was the scars and damage that the character has that drew you to him/her, or the honor with which he/she lived despite it. Maybe it was just the sheer intensity of his/her personality. Whatever it was, it caught you by the throat and almost superseded your feelings about the book in which he/she was introduced.
Then you get that next book, the one in which the secondary character you met and fell for is now featured, and it's fantastic, giving you a more detailed look at the character, more definition to his/her personality, and the sort of thorough backstory that both breaks your heart and makes you fall even more in love with the guy...or girl. It's everything you were hoping it would be and leaves you feeling excited and satisfied for that character.
That is exactly, to the letter, how I felt about this book and Zach's character. I loved him intensely and enjoyed finding out a bit about his past and the people in his life who helped shape him into the sexy, strong, sometimes self-doubting but noble man he is. A far better man than he thinks he is. There's just one problem with all that awesome.
In this case, there was no first book. In fact, as far as I know, this book isn't a part of a series at all. It's a stand-alone novel. And yes, that's a big problem.
See, I think there actually is a first book. There has to be, even if that book has never been published or the story exists only in the author's mind. This one is just too quintessentially a second book in a series to ever convince me that there isn't something, somewhere, written or not, that featured Zach's friends Twyla and Archie and their relationship. A story in which John is still alive, at least in the beginning, and Zack is the brooding guy with a tragic past that offers up a kidney to his best friend's terminally ill wife because he can't imagine not doing everything he can to save the life of the woman who has come to mean absolutely everything to the man who is closer to him than a brother, regardless of the danger to himself.
Because that is who Zach is. That's the awesome character we meet in this book. And we get all that delicious detail about his past that fleshes him out and makes him real, if in too-brief snapshots of a rough childhood and heartbreaking young adulthood. What we don't get is the foundation, the building blocks of the character and his key relationships to the now-deceased John, to Twyla and Archie, to Morgan, and most notably to Ann.
It felt very much like walking into a movie theater twenty minutes into the featured presentation.
Therein lies the largest stumbling in this book for me, particularly as it pertains to the suspense elements of the plot. Ann was a complete non-entity to me throughout the story, with no real impact on my emotions one way or another. As a result, I didn't care beyond the level of passing curiosity what happened to her, or if Zach and Sloane would find her before her ugly demise. I was more affected by what happens to a character we do meet in this book, yet that horror never really seemed to have much of an impact on either Sloane or Zach after the initial hit, which puzzled me.
Here's the thing though, I still liked this book, despite what is a pretty serious problem. In fact, I liked it a lot. The elements I couldn't connect with were far less significant to me than all the wonderful things to which I connected brilliantly. Like Sloane, who I absolutely adored.
Despite her tendency to burst into tears a bit too often for my tastes, I loved her. She had some personal issues and a tragedy in her past which provided some nice layers to her character. I appreciated that. What really made me love her, though, was her unerring eye for judicious pragmatism in the face of pretty disturbing goings on and the way she dealt with Zach's inherent alpha male-ness. She not only held her ground with the overprotective and occasionally stubborn male, she had no qualms about telling him exactly where he could stick his attitude when it started to choke her healthy independent streak.
I believe the term she used was seismic jackass, and I loved every second of it.
They were great together as a couple, and their chemistry hit hard, fast, and was totally off the charts. Maybe it wasn't always appropriate to their surroundings or what was going on in the story, and their relationship progressed to love way, way too fast for me given the timeline of events, but I couldn't help but absolutely love them. And I was a huge fan of Sloane's psychic abilities and how they were introduced and utilized in the story.
Now, about that story...
As a reader, I don't have to feel particularly connected to the victim of a crime to be able to fully enjoy the pulse-pounding action and thrilling danger in which the main characters get themselves embroiled. That's a very good thing in this case, because this book was an absolute roller coaster of emotion (in Zach and Sloane's relationship), danger, mystery, and suspense. I had no idea who was responsible for Ann's disappearance until the moment of reveal and the plot twists after that reveal made my gut clench. Did not see that horror coming at all.
For me, this book was absolutely a high-octane thrill ride of paranormal romantic suspense with great characters and a sizzling romance that wowed me in a lot of very awesome ways. It's just not a stand-alone novel...despite the fact that it is.

Oh my what a story. From the set go we see Zach who got a strange message from an unknown person to do with an unknown person. Well the unknown person was that until he went looking for Ann his mentor's daughter Ann & whilst he's seeking her out he meets her boss Sloane. And it's from here where things take a total turn for the 2 of them. Here we have a hard hitting of trying to locate & see where Ann is & whose involved with her disappearance. Here we have a lot of go & hard hitting situation, where things don't go any such easy way of keeping each other sane whilst they're trying to find Ann as things go from bad to worse before things can start to settle & become free for all of them. But there is also some sad areas during this fantastic book. Come in & have the on the go suspense & who is it??
I enjoyed reading this book, it had a subtle paranormal feel that fit with the story. Both of the characters in this book come with pasts and both resolve to do better in the present/future. Zack is hoping to locate a woman for his mentor that is no longer in his life. Sloane is also trying to use her power to locate a missing a woman. Zack goes to see Sloane and she refuses to help him, he refuses to give up. Can these two work together to find their missing people? Is it the same person? What happens when the chemistry kicks in and begins to complicate matters? This was an entertaining book to read with a really good story that flowed really well.

A fantastic read which jumps off the pages and takes you on a thrilling ride to clear the name of an innocent man and protecting a woman who can see the danger that lurks in the shadows. Zack is one of those hunks that you dream about, roughened hands and sensual smoldering eyes that sweep you off your feet. Sloan has a secret and she doesn't want the world to know, but her attraction to Zack throws caution to the wind to save them both. A very intense read that I could not put down, very well crafted characters and with the paranormal twist that sparks the imagination. I have really enjoyed Mitzy's books and her writing is wonderful.

This was quite a complex story and takes a little while at the start to get into the characters. It was packed full of drama & suspense. There’s Zack - yum - who’s friend has gone missing and Sloane who has psychic abilities who ends up helping him. I liked their intense connection. Their relationship is a slow build as they wade through the sh*t storm that is happening around them and learn to trust each other but you can feel the sexual tension simmering.

This is a fascinating and dramatic story, the paranormal aspect adds a little more suspense to it. Zack and Sloane connect not only physically, but Zack seems to temper her ability so it's not so harsh on her. Zack can't understand why she will not help find Ann, she's supposed to be a friend. Through all the twists and turns the heat between them builds, as does the danger. A thrilling end is in store for everyone involved. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

An incredible read full of suspense and intrigue and an intense storyline. A psychic uses her ability to help her lover find and capture a serial killer. Poor Sloane has issues with using her gift to help others especially since she could not save her own sister. This book is a nail biter as Zack and Sloane race against time to find the killer and save their abducted friend.

In a world where many writers find it is easier to write about vampires and werewolves it was nice to find someone who went against the norm to give us a chance to explore the side of a psychic. Psychics seem to get a bad rap, but I instantly liked Sloane. She didn’t flaunt her ability but rather kept in hidden. That is until Zach enters into her boutique wanting to know about her employee Ann who seems to be missing.
Zach is trying to keep the construction business afloat after his mentor John dies. A note sends him on the hunt for Ann (John’s daughter who is like a sister to him and missing). His first stop is at Sloane’s boutique.
Sloan is psychic and as she gets a glimpse at what Ann is going through and realizes that her time is limited. As the two work together to find Ann Ms. Dietz has given us an engaging story that is sharp and crisp with plenty of chemistry; where sparks tended to fly when they are together.
I found that even with the slow start it soon kicked into overdrive revealing a mystery that kept the killer a secret until just the right moment. You would think you had it figured out only to be thrown a curve. There was a gauntlet of emotions as both characters had pasts that left them entrapped and snared in their own world of pain and terror but they soon saw that there was hope together.
I liked the way Ms. Dietz would throw in the plot twists it kept the story interesting and the reader on their toes. The hidden horror in the story just kind of crept up revealing the danger.
I like the idea of how instead of taking the characters so far of the deep end with the scars, damage and psychic ability Ms. Dietz used Sloane and Zach to ground each other making them more realistic in the reader’s eye.
As the story progressed the layers started to peel away from this sexy couple allowing them to find out who they really are. The paranormal element was understated and not overdone which was nice. It took a backseat to the story itself.
The depth of the story and characters was a nice change of pace adding to the overall appeal that captivated this reader. I look forward to more from Ms. Dietz.
Zachary Goldman is a bad boy who's made it good, but not without some very hard lessons. Zachary has learned not to trust all but a very select few. When one of his circle goes missing, Zach takes on the job of finding her. Little does he know that everything he believes is about to be blown to bits.
Sloane Swift has enough secrets to fill a bank vault, she also has a truckload of guilt to go along with it. Convinced she can't be trusted not to hurt those she comes into contact with, Sloane keeps to herself. When she is pulled into the disappearance of her friend and employee, she has no choice but to put her trust and secrets in Zach's hands.
Two minutes after I agreed to read and review this book I was kicking myself. I was already backed up, I was exhausted and getting the beginnings of a summer cold. I was positive I wouldn't be able to give the book a fair shot. HA! Didn't Misty Dietz just shock the mess out of this tired ol' romance junkie. Not only did this book hold me spellbound, but I read it in one night. From the first page, I was all over Zach. Damaged, but trying to be as good as his mentor and friend believed him to be, Zach won my heart. With an overdeveloped sense of responsibility, Zach is determined to take the weight of the world on his shoulders. *sigh* The journey he and Sloane undertake is as emotionally raw as any I have ever read. The action is fast and furious. It keeps you guessing and second guessing throughout the entire book. The chemistry between Zach and Sloane is explosive and beautiful. There is also a mild paranormal element which just put the cherry on top. All in all, Come Hell or High Desire was a welcome surprise and a book I definitely recommend.
When I started Come Hell or High Desire by Misty Dietz, I wasn't sure if I would like it. I found the beginning a little slow for my taste. As the story progress, I found myself unable to pull away. Once the sense of danger started to pick up I was captive to the story.
Zack Goldman is a man with a past. So, when a friend goes missing he becomes the prime suspect. However, he's trying to prove that he's innocent. Yet there is someone who wants to ruin his life, and this evil person will stop at nothing.
Sloane Swift gets caught up in all that is going down. She wants to help, but is afraid her psychic ability will cause more harm than good. However, Zack is willing to put his trust into her ability and hope to find Ann before it's too late.
As I said, I found the story a little slow at the beginning. I guess the whole idea was to build the intensity, by the way it did. As the danger level of story increase, I found myself glue to the story. I had to know who was the real culprit. I have to admit I was shocked and really didn't see it coming. Serious, you would think it was one person, the next thing that person gets killed off. A nail biter of a story. I love the chemistry between Zack and Sloane. Plus, they tend to anchor each other down when things get bad. Overall, a pretty good action book once the crap hits the fan. So, if you are looking for an action book with some twist, you might want to checkout Come Hell or High Desire.
A novel change from shifters and vampires. Misty takes us into the world of Psychics!!
Sloane has a small boutique and desperately tries to hide her psychic ability. Her mother may be able to bring families back together but she just seems to wreak disaster!! But when her friend and co-worker goes missing she's willing to take a walk on the wide side and try to track her down.
Zach has treated Ann, the missing friend, as his sister and keeps an eye on her for his late friend and mentor. He knows something has gone wrong but with his mired past, no one will take him to seriously..or they will point the finger at him!
Zach and Sloane work together to try and determine what has happened to Ann but as the body count rises so does the sexual chemistry!!!
There are no easy outs in this story. I kept changing my mind as to who was responsible ( you'd think working for the police in real life would be of help!!!) but no I got sucked in and chewed out! The danger keeps you on the edge of your seat and the passion between Sloane and Zach is kept at a lovely simmer before bubbling over.
There is heartbreak, revenge, unrequited love and harsh betrayals in this twisty romantic suspense/PNR. The PNR is never over the top so those who do not really enjoy paranormal books will still find plenty to love in this lovely gem!!
I actually quite enjoyed this book. I usually only read the Indulgence or the Bliss line from Entangled. But I think I just found a great new line...
Zack had a rough childhood growing up.He'd seen some unfortunate thing in his life. After someone turned his mom in to the social services, he got put in foster care.By the time he was 17 he was out on the streets. Luckily for him John saved him by giving him a job with his construction company.
Zack get's informed his mentor's daughter is missing(and is also pregnant) so now he has to try to find her.so Zack goes to Skinning Dipping which is where Ann worked. Zack meets Sloane, Ann's boss. Right off he has a connection with her. Zack ask's her to help find Ann, at first(explained in the book)she's hesitant, but reluctantly agrees. From here on out, they half to find Ann and also her kidnapper.
This is a Romantic suspense book, which is actually my first time reading one and I liked it a lot.The Author goes into the background of the character's so you actually know what happened and why their that way, which is a good thing because I liked to know the details. I also enjoyed the plot.I don't usually read about kidnapping/abductions, but I'm glad I did because I enjoy them.
I really enjoyed this novel. I would have given it four stars if it wasn't for the whole "I love you" (two days) and "marry me" (one week) bullshit between the two protagonists. Sorry folks but I'm really bloody tired of this pattern that so many authors tend to follow. Every time I come across this I have this overwhelming urge to throw my Kindle off my balcony. Yep, that's how much it bugs me. And before any of you readers who like to criticize other readers' reviews, remember, this is MY opinion so back off.
That being said, this is still a really great romantic/suspenseful novel with a little paranormal thrown in. It's full of intrigue and deception with a lot of surprising twists and turns. The author successfully delivers a well-written story, as well as two protagonists, Zack and Sloane, who are very likeable, and who have a lot of sizzling chemistry between them. My apologies. I made a mistake. Zack is loveable as well as being a sexy, gorgeous, hard-bodied construction worker. A man that every woman would jump thru fire just to feel his calloused hands on them, me included.
A truly engaging read. I look forward to reading future novels by Misty Dietz.
This is the first book that this author has published and I have to say it was fantastic and better than some books I have read from authors with multiple books. I basically read this book in one sitting because once I started I didn't want to put it down until I found out what happened. Zack’s friend Ann has disappeared, and he is trying to look for her. He goes to the shop that Ann works and meets Sloane. When Sloane touches Zack she instantly feels an attraction to Zack. Sloane has a special ability to touch an object, normally metal that a person has touched. When she touches the object she gets a picture of what is happening or happened to that person. However, when Zack is near her ability seems to grow. They must work together to find out what has happened to Ann. I have to admit, the author kept me guessing until the very end. This book has it all romance, mystery, suspense, and a little paranormal. I can’t wait to read another book by this author. I hope she writes another book with these same characters. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
I have problems when a book doesn’t grab me by the end of the first chapter. This book was really hard for me to get into. I love reading romance, and I’m not normally interested in paranormal. But once I got into this story, I was glad I hadn’t given up.
Ann, who’s pregnant, has disappeared. Her boss Sloan, who is a psychic, and Zac, who has trust issues, go in search of her. On occasion, Sloan’s independence ruffle Zac’s feathers, but their connection is strong, even though they both harbor secrets.
Of course I had it all figured out right away. WRONG! The mystery, suspense and twists and turns keep sending you in different directions. I had no idea who the crazy guy was! Then I got depressed because I’m a sucker for books with the happy endings and didn’t think that was going to be the case. WRONG AGAIN!
Great romance, great suspense, great mystery, and I just might change my mind about paranormal, as long as it’s not too deep. What really topped it off is this book seems to be a stand alone. When I finish a book, I want to be finished and know how it ends.
If it hadn’t taken me so long to get into the story, I’d have given it 5 stars!
Come Hell or High Desire is an incredible story filled with well written suspense, plot twists, great secondary characters and (my favorite) an intense connection between the Hero, Zack and the Heroine, Sloane, with an emphasis on connection!
Misty Dietz is a debut author, but proves she has already mastered the art of keeping this reader loving the suspense just as much as the romance. She starts the story off a bit fluttery as we get to know the main characters and they get to know each other, but then gets down to it and solidly builds a strong plot that so completely captured my attention to where I just could not put the book down because I had to know what was going to happen next. MD did not let me down, she kept me guessing right up to her reveals and with them she delivered VERY unexpected plot twists, with steamy scenes between Zack and Sloane, and yes, with the all important HEA. She wrapped it all up nice and tight... no nasty cliffhangers!! 4.5 stars
*I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Wow!! Wonderful read. You get romance without the erotica (of which I have no complaints about but don't always want) mystery, suspense and a bit of the paranormal thrown in which, all-in-all, made for a very enjoyable, relaxing read. Zack, a rugged, handsome man with a none to happy past gets drawn into the life of Sloane and she into his. Sloane has an ability to touch an object or a person and get a picture of was happening when the item was touched. Her ability has failed her in the past and she doesn't trust herself. They are brought together when Ann, Sloane's friend and employee and Zach's "family member" goes missing. Neither one of them want to trust the other but they start learning to.
In a story where not everyone is who they seem and trust is a very important commodity, Misty Dietz shows that sometimes those you do trust can be your own worst enemy.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this story. The hero Zack is a mans man. He isn't a guy to take over the heroines life, he isn't a guy to try and change the heroine, but he accepted her and tried to help her become a better version of herself. Sloane, the heroine, doesn't complain and constantly put herself in situation where she has to be saved; she can take care of herself. She has doubts in her abilities, but is able to push through and do what needs to be done. They are both very real characters.
The twists and added drama to the story throughout the entire book kept me interested and curious as to where the story would lead.
The only thing that I would have liked more of is the history of how Zack met Morgan and Archie, and why he had such loyalty to them. There was mention of his troubled past, but I would have liked more of it since there was a lot of darkness to him.
