Beautiful photographs & simple, elegant prose make this a wonderful story for all ages. It follows the life of a butterfly, from the laying of an egg, throughout it's transition from a caterpillar, to it's migration to Mexico. Bonnie Bader has turned this simple children's book into a lovely story, & I learned a little bit about butterflies too.

Beautiful book with color photographs that take you through the life cycle of the monarch butterfly and their incredible journey to a select location in the mountains of Mexico and back again.
My inquiring mind wanted to know how they can return to the northeast US in one season. The book states that this butterfly will begin her journey with other butterflies but will not fly all the way home.
Obviously there is a way for that to happen in the short period of time allowed. According to National Geographic it takes 5 generations to complete the journey with each generation taking only 5 to 7 weeks. Quite amazing!

I liked this book because. I think it would be a good book for your young kids. It tells you about how the butterfly flys north and when. It tell you the most common places for them to grow and. Its got lots of pictures to help your kids learn what butterflys are. This book is probably best for your kindergartens.

An informational picture book about the life cycle and migration of monarch butterflies.

This book stands out from the myriad of other books on butterfly life cycles for its lyrical, almost poetic text and the fact that it combines life cycle and migration information. The photographs are also amazing. A good choice for kids learning about butterflies and animals that migrate.

Stunning close-up photos depict the remarkable lifecycle of a monarch butterfly, step-by-step. I don't think I've seen such detailed photos of the chrysalis before. This one will definitely catch the attention of kids who enjoy learning about the natural world.

This is a great book that can be used as a guided reading book or even as a read aloud for younger students. This book very simply explains the life cycle of butterflies with simple text and very vivid photos. I think the photos are what really make this book worth while because it is hard to see butterflies (in any stage of life) close up since they are so fast and scare easily. The photos are high resolution, enlarged views of each stage of life the butterfly goes through. I would use this book during the insect unit I do towards the end of spring. I purchase painted lady butterfly eggs and hatched them in my room last year and used this book to help the students see what was going to happen. This book can also be used as a reference for sequencing.
