Krista Lester combines the cuteness of bunnies and the wisdom of Buddhism to explore some of life's greatest questions in a humorous and accessible way for people of all ages and faiths. She is a music teacher, writer, meditation practitioner and yoga enthusiast in the Boston area.
I picked this up because I love rabbits. Being a bunny mom of two house rabbits, I found this book to be wildly inaccurate as far as rabbit behavior goes. Don't get it expecting to read anything about how most of what bunnies do all day is poop and sleep and eat. And chew on your expensive electronics.
As far as the Buddhism goes - very peaceful and thoughtful insights into life, put into perspective of hopping and carrots. The illustrations are adorable.
Definitely this is a book for a person looking for nuggets of wisdom about life. Not about bunnies.
Great book for inspirational quotes redone from the point of view of a bunny! Quick read and enjoyable, I think they should make a calendar out of this book
First off, I will say I won this book on Goodreads, and per their rules, I must disclose this on any review I write. Now, I thought book looked really cute, and signed up on a whim the day before it ended. I wasn’t sure how I’d like it, as it is a book that compiles tweets, but I decided I liked both bunnies and Buddhism so what can it hurt? Honestly, I loved it. It is not my favorite book, but I have some quotes stuck in my head. The funniest, and most thoughtful in my opinion follows;
On Page 4 “A potato is a potato no matter how much I want it to be a carrot.”
Some pages have images of bunnies; hopping, sitting, eating. Most have 3 tweets per page. It’s 191 pages, but an extremely quick read due to the format. You don’t need to be Buddhist to enjoy this book, a lot of basic moral principles are within it. I find it might also be a way to communicate with children more complex moral standards, my niece for instance on why hitting the dog isn't nice. What child wouldn’t want to learn with bunnies after all?
In short, it’s not my go-to book, but I am glad I had the pleasure to read it, as it was an interesting look at a rather complicated thing. It was relaxing to read as I was settling down after work.
Bunnies bringing wisdom. What more can you ask for?
I picked up the book last year, immediately pre-ordering it when I saw news of it on their Twitter page.
It’s a quick, casual read, but not meant to consume all in one sitting. I feel it’s best enjoyed in small doses :) Read a couple every day or every week, maybe with a cup of tea in hand, and reflect.
Accompanying the sage quotes are many adorable illustrations of bunnies. They get a little repetitive, though. Maybe in volume 2, if there is one planned (I certainly hope so!) we’ll get more varied bunny art, or even pictures of real bunnies much like the pics on their Instagram.
So, if you love bunnies and need a fun, helpful guide for your path to enlightenment, this is a nice book to add to your shelf. Or gift to a loved one, as I did.
Bunny Buddhism is a very clever way to teach Buddhist wisdom. Krista Lester is the author of this simple enjoyable book and Durell Godfrey is the illustrator. The illustrations are wonderful and add so much to this delightful read. I received my copy of Bunny Buddhism: Hopping Along the Path to Enlightenment as a part of the Goodreads book giveaway. It arrived directly from the author. Thank you.
A really cute book of buddhist based sayings by a thoughtful, whimsical author. She combined her two favorite things 1)Buddhism and 2) bunnies and made this original way of looking at the world possible. Many are seeking enrichment and spiritualism through various means, and this provides a slightly secularized lens, thanks to the bunnies, to get one's feet wet in the Eastern religious thought. Lovely, funny, touching, thought provoking.
This is not a lesson book about Buddhist bunnies but rather quotes from Buddhism reworked to be about Bunnies, ie using words like carrot for material goods, or bunniness for bliss or nirvana.
Some of the quotes are adorable others are just so mind shaking! It’s great. A fast and easy read that can be glance over agin, or started at random places for a daily dose of bunniness!
Only a few pages in but I am in love with this book! So excited to share this with my kids we have been talking a lot about meditation, mindfulness and Buddhism. This fits in perfectly and is absolutely adorable!
This is a playful collection of Buddhism inspired quotations retold from a bunny's philosophical viewpoint. A whimsical approach to finding bunny wisdom.
I won this book on Goodreads and I am very pleased that I did. It is a cute little book that would be a good choice for someone just starting out with Buddhism. It reminded me of The Tao of Pooh ( a book that was published about 30 years ago). This book is a fun book with a lot of quotes about a bunny. It is easy to substitute words that apply to you and not the bunny so it will be more meaningful to you.It also helped that I LOVE bunnies and used to have several. I do think anyone trying to become more mindful would enjoy this book.
A collection of tweets from @BunnyBuddhism. A wealth of invitations to stop and think for a while. Krista Lester offers Buddhist thought in terms of bunnies and bunniness, hopping and carrots. I know enough about Buddhism to think the metaphor works most of the time. And, by making it a metaphor, it was easier to see parallels to Christian spiritual teaching, too. (I'm a United Methodist pastor, so the question "Will this preach?" is lurking at the back of my mind through all my reading.) Glad I read it--and following on Twitter.
Can confirm bunniness does not exist and most bunnies, being prey animals, are terrified of lots of things. Cannot confirm whether this book made me feel better or worse. Bunnies tho. This is definitely for old man/woman buns who DGAF. Yeah.
