Overall Series Rating 2.5 Stars

I like the artwork and this sounded cute… so I kept at it.

I have a stubbornness about finishing stories (I should let this go) but the characters in Captive Heart feel flat. I read MeruPuri by the same author and had real problem with the relationship dynamics, I’ve got similar problem in Captive Hearts. Both Megumi and Suzuka are entirely too accepting of “the curse”. Once you get past volume 1 everybody just seems to go along with the fact that the two of them are in love (except for a brief concern from Megumi’s mother).

Today's manga post is on Captive Hearts, Vol. 05 by Matsuri Hino. It is 200 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Megumi and Suzuka on it. As it is the fifth volume in the series, you need to have read the first four volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes magical, shojo love stories. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this volume. The story is told from third person close of the main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.
From the back of the manga- Convinced that finding the jewel of the Dragon God will release the Kuroishi family from their curse, Megumi and Suzuka travel to China together. Will they succeed in their mission and finally break the captive spell?

Review- A good conclusion to a series. Suzuka and Megumi are bound and determined to finally break the curse on Megumi's family. In doing so, they discover that others have been cursed by the Dragon God and why. The Dragon God fell in love with a girl from the village but villagers feared her and got themselves cursed. Suzuka wants to free everyone. This ending is good with all threads from previous volumes and the Dragon God's reasons are explained. A good, solid shojo series, it does not break the mold but it does deliver what the reader wants from the genre. I would recommend this series and the author.

I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

I couldn't be more disappointed

Talk about zero consequences and throw away characters. Plots of convenience and holes so big you can drive through them. I feel like this series was a waste of time and money. If they hadn't been gifted to me I'd never had gotten pay volume 1.

This series was definitely a wild ride, but a good one. It started slow and honestly quite confusing, but as the chapters progressed the story became clearer and better overall.

Suzuka and Megumi are in china trying to break the curse the dragon god placed on Kuroishi family. Megumi and Suzuka are confronted by angry villagers, who have also been cursed by the dragon god. Will they finally be able to fulfill the contract or will the villagers get to them first.

This book is similar to S.A. because Takeshima is in love with Hikari but she doesn’t want to believe it. But in S.A. Takeshima is very protective of Hikari, like Megumi is with Suzuka.

I give this book 5 stars because I thought it was funny and interesting towards the end. I like all the romance and fighting that happened when I read it.

Overall score: 2.5. Rounded up for pretty art.

Absolutely absurd little series... but it's charming and fun in its own way. Having not touched it in nearly a decade, I forgot everything and felt like I was reading it for the first time, which is always a fun experience. This is definitely not a manga for everyone, many would find the premise and execution too ridiculous to swallow... but I enjoy my occasional stupid manga, and I adore Matsuri Hino's art style, so that made the going a lot more palatable.

The woman who wrote Vampire Knight destroys her own name with this series. I struggled through 5 novels of a convoluted story that went from being simply odd to being some deeper story that never connected. All of the stories she threw at these characters would have made a good series, instead she rushed through it and told 5 stories in 5 volumes that never connected. I'll be hesitant to pick up anything by Hino again.

The end has some plot twists and the backup characters are funny. An extra star for the dragon and the "village of animal people" curse.

The bastard dragon god An ended up becoming my favourite character. Maybe because in this version he spoke with a Portuguese accent (versus the rest of the cast that spoke with a Brazilian one -- seeing I read a Brazilian edition of the book)

This is a far as I get in this series so this rating is 4 the whole series.
This one was kind of heavy to read, I finished it only for love to the author and because the drawings are soooo beautiful, but the whole "I'll do whatever you say, 'cause I love you" curse was a bit ridiculous and I seriously believe that it could be more exploited in the plot.

The story itself wasn't that great at all and the ending was just terrible, so why am I giving it five stars, simply because of the really, really short story at the end "tell me the real meaning of that kiss" because it was hilarious!

Overall, this manga was okay. The story line was good, but the plot moved kind of slow for me. Unlike Matsuri's other works where it keeps me shouting for more, Captive Hearts was somewhat opposite of that.

it's such a happy ending. though i didn't clap at the end (which i have totally done in the past). why don't we meet up with suzuka's adopted parents? still, it was such a cute story!

An okay series that had an interesting ending, but pales in comparison to her Vampire Knight chronicles. You can tell the author was warming up for her next accomplishment.

It was very silly, but still entertaining. Unfortunately I probably won't keep the series for very long on my bookcase since they weren't Vampire Knight quality.

Well it got even goofier, the fur flew, and everything came out to a mostly satisfying conclusion. A fun read, just don't expect much.
