If You Were an Adjective teaches kids about the noun-describing part of speech in a colorful, easy way. Examples of each "lesson" on adjectives are given to show readers how to do what is being taught. Readers learn all the different things that adjectives describe as well different kinds of adjectives like comparative and superlative. If You Were an Adjective is a fun, engaging way for kids to learn about a specific part of speech. This book would be valuable to me as a reading specialist because it not only helps kids learn to read better, but it teaches them a part of speech which, in the future, will help their reading comprehension even more. The engaging style of the book makes the English lesson fun, not boring. The pictures on every page enhance the fun words and language and can also help kids understand what is being said. Three things I absolutely love about this book are on the last page. There is an name acrostic activity that kids can use to practice with adjectives as well as an explanation about what abbreviation is used for an adjective in the dictionary. On the opposite side of that page is a small glossary with some definitions of terms used throughout the book. This book is a wonderful teaching tool that goes above and beyond simply teaching kids through the main text. Dahl, M. (2006). If you were an Adjective Minneapolis: Picture Window Books
If you Were an Adjective is a great book that teaches kids what an adjective is and what it is supposed to do. Throughout the book it provides kids with a large number of examples that can be very beneficial to them. It has colorful and vivid illustrations that go hand in hand with what the book is saying, it gives the kids an image to what the book is describing. It lets them know that an adjective describes how something sounds, how it behaves, that it might be a proper adjective and plenty of other things.
