3D Video: From Capture to Diffusion

Rate this book
3D video is presented here on a computer science point of view, with the presentation of trends and solutions for 3D acquisition, representation, compression, diffusions and applications. Keywords are multiscopy, stereoscopy, multiview system, 3D displays, 3D TV, Free-viewpoint video, 3D reconstruction, 3D compression.3D video has become one of the new technology trends of this century. In this book, we present computer science-based solutions to achieve the complete pipeline, from acquisition, through data treatment and representation, to 3D diffusion. Several types of camera systems are considered (multiscopic or multiview) which lead to different acquisition, modeling, storage, rendering solutions. Applications are visited to illustrate performance of benefices of such systems. While 3D vision have been existing for many years, the use of 3D cameras and video-based modeling by the film industry have induced a booming of interest for 3D acquisition technology, 3D content and 3D displays. In this book, we provide elements to understand the underlying computer-based science of these technologies, stepping away from traditional 3D vision. We explore new applications and perspectives that were not previously considered because the underlying technology was not yet there.
