I find these novels interesting and entertaining. Not quite finished with the Nobel series yet as I had to take a mental health break after wading through three books worth of needing a particular character to bite the dust only to have him come back in the next book due to a time jump into the past.
Ok. On to Bear and Mandy’s side quests. I adore Bear. I also adore Mandy. My concern. Mandy isn’t a foolish person. Often the way she’s written is as if she is. No one would expect a tactically smart and highly alert character to waste precious seconds on a call for help with an apology. They would expect her to use language that would give a location. Also, prior to this interaction, her phone would’ve been silenced. I guess what I’m saying is characters are products of their environment and not a gender or trope based on age. Mandy has had years of training and real world experience to be written as a product of her environment rather than a mistake making child. This was often tedious and added nothing to the plot but to alienate an entire group of people that would become fans since this Bear Mandy side quest series is fairly take enough for YA readers. If teens are wise enough to silence their phones for a theater, a character like Mandy shouldn’t be given a plot line where she follows someone without noise disciplines her gear. It’s the little things like this that detract from the level of enjoyment for this series.
So far, Rachel Hatch is my fav followed by this series. Hope for more but with a new character arc for Mandy that provides her with the ability to use her skills in a more realistic way.
Well they did it again. They can get into so much without even trying. Don't stop for gas and run inside for snacks you never know what you'll run into. Or who you will end up helping and why. Bear draws trouble like a magnet fortunately his heart is as big as he is. Now Mandy wants to be like Bear and is trying to sharpen everything Bear has taught her. Just when you think they've got enough going on in walks a friend. Or is she a foe? Great job. I love Bear and Mandy and I'm so glad their adventures will continue. Looking forward to Book 5. Thank you.
While the end of the synopsis here is a bit over the top, this book is definitely different than its predecessors. It truly send the reader over the hedge into where the series is going next and what the overarching plot might be. The central mystery is a bit sidelined in order to accommodate all the setup but it’s still pretty solid. And quite a few characters from previous books show up, which is fun in a “Leonardo DiCaprio pointing” kind of way.
Back to My Stomping Grounds in N.W. The beginnings are pretty standard, they get Bear and Mandy into the story line. The twists and turns then get us into following the story and trying to guess where Author Ryan is headed with the plot. Always enjoy Bear‘s mentoring of Mandy as both a teenage girl (had three of those) and as a young woman growing up understanding how to be independent, cautious, aware of the danger in today’s world. The plot is good, Marcus is still in the rear view mirror and Agent Iris is gaining ground as a regular story member. On to book five. VR, Mags,
Another amazing book with Bear and Mandy! Wherever Bear and Mandy are trouble seems to find them. Kelly needs help, and Mandy convinces Bear to help her. There are a few surprises in this book, and it is very difficult to put down. Who killed Ethan? What is going on in Arlington, Oregon? Bear is trying to figure this out. You must read this book to find out what will happen.. You will not be disappointed. Happy reading! 😊
This was such a good addition to the story. I really enjoy these books. My ultimate dream would be for Bear and Mandy to run into Blake Brier and gang, Mandy and Ian could make for some good adventures (yes I’m talking to you Mr. Ryan… I’ll take an acknowledgment) These stories are so well written I anticipate them from the moment I finish one until the next one comes out.
Bear and Mandy are a great family pair for this kind of story. Who lives like this and shows such love and understand between father and teen, while both having the grit and talent to survive the shit storms they put themselves onto? Fun, easy read to get your adrenaline going. I really hope this kind of stuff doesn't really go on, but it is exciting to read about!
Set in OR. 260 pp. This was just ok for me. I think it suffered for my not having read the earlier books in the series. I just didn’t really connect with or care about these characters.
Another small town and Mandy and Bear run into another criminal enterprise. Iris that they worked with in Indiana is back and they uncover aside business of a farmer's son to sell fertilizer and gasoline to a group of domestic terrorists to make their bombs. They help the FBI get the evidence for the bust. Bear agrees to work to uncover who Mr Dragon is.
Bear is a hard act to follow, but Mandy seems to be following in his footsteps in spite of that. I can see why that thought both terrifies Bear and makes him proud at the same time. Demon spawn are like that....and I mean that affectionately. LOL
Not usually, my kind of book, however, gonna read them all now
This looks like the latest in this series of books. However, it was a good stand-alone story. I am hooked and want to read the newest one and go back and read the rest. It is good to read more fiction in different genres. I recommend this book.
Bear and Mandy living off the grid, find themselves once again involved in a murder mystery, dangerous people and some really good beer. The Magic Tap brings everything from beer to wheeling and dealing that could take Bear and Mandy’s live’s. And then there’s Iris……
I think this was the best of the series so far. Bear is a really good man with all the right reactions. The relationship between him and Mandy is heartwarming. I hope to find and read the book(s) of their beginning. I realize I should have done that after starting the first book as soon as I recognized Bear as sidekick of Jack Noble (I think)…series I started then went on to another author.
Oh my bad karma seems to follow this father and daughter everywhete!they are real lucky that they are able to keep doing the right things to keep them alive.its so refreshing to see the bond between them.I have really enjoyed their escapes and the good they leave behind
Bear and Many are still on the run. Now they are in Oregon. Iris Duvall finds them and she and Bear link up to catch some bad guys. The story line is simple but what sets this apart from all the other similar stories is Mandy.
I just finished reading Over The Edge in less than a day. I couldn't put it down! Fabulous story line and as always so suspenseful. Sorry I have to wait till next year for Between The Lies but I'm sure LT Ryan has books to keep me busy till then 😊👍🥰
I can always rely on this author to offer up a great novel that holds my attention without relying on the use of gratuitous sex and foul language. I always look forward to his next offering.
I love the Bear and mandy series. Action packed twists and turns. If it's ever a movie, I imagine maxl from stranger things as mandy and Eric Roberts and Bear. Can't wait for the next one!
I’ve read all of the Bear and Mandy series, and I’ve enjoyed them. This one is a little slow in the adventure area. Bear was to easy going for me. I know he has to think differently with a kid, but that’s not the Bear I’ve come to know!
This was a good story. A little easier to predict the villain early on. Most of the authors stories twist it up as the end gets near. But this one wasn't that way.
This one was the set up for a new story and I can't wait!!
Enjoyed the relationship between Bear and Mandy and it shows how impressed love and committed are. Liked the persistence of Iris who can see there is more to bear than any vicious rumors.
This was definitely one of Bear and Mandy best adventure. No matter how hard he tries to keep his head down low something always comes up. It will be really interesting to see what he does with Mandy while helping Iris. Great job !!! 10 stars plus!!!! Thanks, Carl Clause
Really liked the story. Lots of twists and turns. Keeps you guessing who was the real villain, and little surprising in the end. Love the way Bear and Mandy seem to find a challenge wherever they go. Highly recommend.
As much as Bear tries to stay hidden and not get involved in other people's problems, it just isn't in his nature. A chance encounter at a gas station leads to uncovering a huge problem. Good story with interesting characters.
I loved reading a other book about Bear and Mandy. Seems like every where these two go they are always followed by trouble. and can never turn his back on someone in trouble therefore almost getting himself and Mandy almost killed.
I like Bear and Mandy adventures, this was pretty tame compared to the other books in the series, recommend reading the first books in the series. The first books are better as far as action goes.
Good escapist stories are what LT Ryan is all about. The Bear and Mandy series builds on the earlier series of Bear and Jack Noble (sort of like the Borne series). I have read the both series in order and wonder if someone simply starting in the middle would appreciate them like I do.
Must read! Hard to put down, the story was great and the characters all added great insight!
Great read! Hard to put down as I was so caught up in the story. The characters were awesome and can't wait to move onto book 5! Thanks, highly recommend!
