Hopelessly drawn to one another, they manage to slip away from the wreckage to get a little closer. 5 stars!

Not Quite Enough by Catherine Bybee so FAR exceeded my expectations that I am at a loss for words. I have enjoyed each and every book in Bybee’s “Not Quite” series, but this one is by far my favorite.

Ms. Bybee is a registered nurse as well an author, and her knowledge of the medical field is obvious in this book. I myself am a nurse, so it’s always difficult to read stories that feature nurses. My critical nature always takes me out of the story as I find myself thinking, “that would never happen” or “that’s not realistic”. This is the first contemporary romance that features a registered nurse and gets my unabashed seal of approval.

Although this book could be read as a standalone, it will mean more if read in order. The reading order is:
1. Not Quite Dating
2. Not Quite Mine
3. Not Quite Enough

Many of the characters and storylines from the previous two books show up in this book, and the effect of this will be more powerful if you’ve experienced the other books prior to reading this book.

Monica Mann has traveled to Jamaica in the wake of a horrible tsunami. The island has been decimated and the casualties are mounting. She immediately boards a plane to join the relief effort as an experienced triage and ER trauma nurse.

Trent Fairchild is a helicopter pilot who owns his own tourist company in Jamaica. He has been living in Jamaica, running from a painful past. As the pilot who first transports Monica to the makeshift hospital in Jamaica, the chemistry between them is present, but the setting is like a war zone and is not immediately conducive to romance. Fortunately, this is a romance novel, and where there is a will, there is a way!

I really can’t say enough about this book. The characters are lovable, the setting will astound you, and it’s very reminiscent of the horrific 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. However, the best part about this book is the love story. It’s one that begins during a tumultuous and highly stressful time and yet brings healing and stability to both Trent and Monica. It is a beautiful thing to behold!

This book is a real page-turner, and my advice is to not have a lot going on when you start reading. You won’t want to put this one down.

A fabulous addition to an already great series! Highly recommended.

This book is firmly part of a series and I wouldn't recommend reading it on its own. This is kind of sad because it's the best of them so far—much more heart and less predictable (though still a touch formulaic).

Monica has played a strong role from the beginning, so it's good to get her story, finally. We know she's caring and has lots of love in her heart. But we also know she just doesn't have/take time for men in her life. I was interested to see what kind of guy would break through her shell and reach her feels. And I wasn't disappointed.

Trent is a little bit standard as romantic heroes go, though not offputtingly so. Yes, he's rich and successful but with plenty of time to devote to our over-scheduled heroine. Sigh. This is mitigated somewhat by the circumstances around their meeting as everybody is off their game and pressed for time. Bybee makes that chaos work and not in a cheesy or contrived way, either.

I wasn't a fan of the great misunderstanding, I have to admit. Trent seemed like a smarter guy and he'd already been stung once by that exact same overreaction, before. And the tension with Monica's job didn't gel as well as I'd have liked. I mean, the motivations for the hospital didn't really align very well and the final reveal there was kind of hackneyed ().

Which all sounds like I didn't enjoy the book very much and nothing could be further from the truth. Monica is a gem and Trent is a sweatheart and the two of them together just made my heart swell. I wanted them to find their happily ever after and they were so cute getting there that all the rest simply fell away.

In the end, this was a solid(ish) 3.5. Keeping me up late justifies rounding to four stars and I'm happy to do it.

A note about Steamy: Two explicit scenes of moderate length with occasional playing around put this in my middle range. Barely.

My favorite in this series.
The first 2 previous books help building a very solid heroine and she delivered. I was expecting (and fearing to be honest) that the little nurse might fall for the powerful and sexy doctor Walt but luckily this was not the case, she got attracted by someone outside of the medical world.
I liked the first encounters between Monica and Barefoot Trent and the way they quickly and slowly at once manage to build a relationship, go beyond the obvious and learn to relate to another. Once again, the hero is more of a sweet romantic than a base caveman, though I never doubted his manliness.
I really felt the descriptions of the job of an emergency nurse, in the hospital and in relief situation like after an earthquake were very realistic, neither showing misery nor over optimism. Those were very good moments and provided more than an excellent background.
One thing I did not like so much was the riff-raff regards the lawsuit, maybe trial, between Monica and the Hospital. For an American, the explanations regarding the union's role and how Monica got used as a means to destroy them might be clear. It honestly remained a bit fuzzy, too long and with too much legalism for me.
This was the most engaging of the three books, fully deserving a 4 star rating. I'll definitely read other books from Ms. Bybee and recommend her for short, engaging, light but not dumb, nicely written contemporary romances.

4.5 Jamaica baby stars!!

Monica is a nurse and joins a volunteer group that helps in disasters and emergencies. When an earthquake hits Jamaica which causes a Tsunami, her group flies in to help.

Trent has been living in Jamaica running part of his families helicopter tour business. When he picks up a group of medical volunteers he is immediately drawn to the blonde who was terrified of flying in his helicopter.

At this point I was thinking 'here we go, another insta love', boy was I wrong. It may have been insta chemistry but this was much more than an insta love story.

I really enjoyed this one, it was a mix of the setting, plot, chemistry and great characters.

I have been waiting for Monica's story since the very first book and I am so pleased with the way Ms. Bybee handled it. I knew that whatever happened to Monica, whatever man was brought into her life, it had to be someone fabulous and worthy of her, after all, Monica is an angel. Okay, okay, not an angel in the literal sense but pretty darn close. And the good thing is, Bybee portrayed her exactly how I have always seen her. Feisty, smart, brave and at times, a down right hero.

I loved the the Doctor's Without Borders side of the story. It really showed what I always knew, that Monica was a strong capable woman and she needed a strong capable man to be her partner in life. No one else would do.

It is a good thing Trent was in the picture because he was everything Monica needed and then some.

I think what I love most about this series is the sweetness of the family (and extended family). Their love, support and loyalty to one another is just what a family should be. They might not always agree or get along but they are always there for each other. It would be hard not to love them.

I have no idea if Ms. Bybee plans on extending the series or if this was it but I do know that if it was it, I would be thrilled with the way it ended. I love that we got more of Jessie, Jack, Dean, Katie, Savannah and Danny. I love that I could be completely happy if there never was another book, another story because Bybee ended it all so beautifully. Although, truth be told I would love another book just because I have become such a big fan of her work and the characters that she has created.

This once again so so well done, so laid out and flowed so nicely. I breezed through this in a matter or hours and loved every minute of it.

Not Quite Enough is probably my favorite book out of the Not Quite series. It just didn't seem so predictable to me or cliché. I just loved everything about it - especially the characters, Monica and Trent.

I can't say that I devoured it as quickly as the others but that's because I mostly just listened to the audiobook instead of just reading it on my actual kindle. Plus, I just really wanted to enjoy the book as well.

Now, Monica saves lives because she's a freaking awesome person. Even through the most chaotic and dangerous situations that you can shove at her - she will somehow create order out of that hot mess. I loved everything about her and I kind of wish she was a real person.

Then there's Trent, and I laughed so hard out how they first met. Then I fell in love with their relationship. I swooned. I cheered. I shipped. I enjoyed. If I could get more of Trent and Monica in the next book, or like a little tidbit of them - I would be so freaking happy.

I have no idea if the next book in this series will be better than this one. I hope it is but then again a little bit of me doesn't want it to be. Monica and Trent will be my favorite couple of this series forever and ever. No one can take their spot from my heart.

So this book would have been a good 3.5 star for me if two specific lines didn't stick out to me. Two lines in two separate chapters that were unnecessary and could have been easily dropped and served ABSOLUTELY NO PURPOSE except they both touched a nerve with me.

Line one:
The author is explaining a bar that the heroine and her co-workers meet at and rather than describing the bar as a local hangout for the workers she says this:
"The jukebox held some of the latest pop favorites and several from the eighties and beyond. the music wasn't rap and filled with hate which made it a decent spot for the staff to meet up after work. The last thing they needed after twelve hours was headache-inducing bass"

wtf? I'm sorry but that left a bad taste in my mouth. Was it really necessary to degrade an entire genre of music just because you wanted to talk about the lack of bass? you could have easily said it wasn't a club, that the music was low-key, that it was a lounge where they could go after-hours, or half a million other ways to describe the place. seriously wtf?

Line Two:
The author is describing how the hero was looking for the heroine's last name on the mailbox to find her apartment.
"He was happy her last name wasn't Gonzalez or he'd have been knocking on doors half the night".

Maybe this is a southern Cali insider joke (the heroine and the author are from the area) but to me it made me really annoyed with this author, especially after trying really hard to ignore the previous offense. I really really hope the author said it as a joke that South-Cali people would get because to me it came out as offensive to a whole group of people.

I don't like to judge or point finger but I thought it was important to point this out so you can understand my low rating. The story wasn't too bad a read, I'm just not going to give it a thumbs up after it left such a bad taste in my mouth.

Sesso poco e molto romanticismo.
.
«Mi sei mancata» le sussurrò. «Anche quando credevo che tu fossi di un altro, mi mancavi.»
Lei aveva un groppo in gola. «Non puoi dirmi che mi ami, ci conosciamo appena.»
«Non so come definire i sentimenti che provo. Per la prima volta, però, desidero la possibilità di provare a vivere qualcosa di più importante della solita avventura.»

Just like all of the other books I have read by this author, I devoured this book and was quite sad to see the book end.

The author always seems to draw me into the story so much that I feel that I am watching what is happening with the characters she so brilliantly weaves into the story.

I have liked Monica from the first book in the series. Although this book can be read as a stand alone book, I already knew, hang read the other two book in the series that Monica was a very selfless and giving person. She was born to be a nurse and had a very generous and loving nature.

After disaster hits Jamaica, Monica flies out with the Borderless Nurses and Doctors and other volunteers. She has had to use her vacation time and had has to cover her shifts with other colleagues as her boss is less than helpful.

She takes a VERY long shift in the hospital only sleeping when she is about to fall from her feet. She conditions are dire, the supplies run are not enough and she is sent to a clinic away from the hospital to help minimise the amount of people sent to the hospital.

The man who flew her to the hospital, Trent, is there to fly her to the clinic where in very poor conditions, he helps her for the first day. Later when she is almost dead on her feet, he takes her to his house for a hot meal, a shower and a clean empty bed.

He is there the next day when she is dead on her feet and the doctor tells her to go sleep.

Trent is in Jamaica as he ran from his family after his parents were killed in a plane crash and believes himself responsible. He has issues with lies and trust but falls for the pretty and very kind nurse Monica. He sees the dedication she has in her work and loves how generous she is to the people around her. He also likes how blunt she is.

The pair find the electricity between them sparking constantly and eventually after knowing she has some hours off work they go to aback with a cave for some private time together. After making love for the first time and having a swim, they go back to the cave only for an earthquake aftershock to collapse the cave entrance where Monica gets stuck and they have to dig her broken leg out.

They spend time together in the dark cave getting to know each other and drinking the fresh water only for Monica to get an infection and she runs fever. Trent does what he can, but by the time they are found, Monica is gravely ill, and even Trent finds himself ill.

A mix up at the hospital leaves Trent feeling angry and lied to, and he leaves without saying goodbye and he goes to live with one of his brothers. Monica is upset to find Trent has gone, but later finds that not only has her boss fired her, that she is now subject to an investigation and may lose her licence to be a nurse.

Family help and money get her the best lawyers and help to fight her case and her brother-in-law contacts Trent for help. Trent immediately flies down to help and when he sees her they both realise how much they miss each other.

Time along with help from others makes Trent realise he has to stop running and Monica realise that she has to relinquish control sometimes and let the ice inside her heart melt for a man eventually. Its always lovely to see how the family are always there for the other members, blood relatives or not

This type of book is always a feel good book and always leaves me wanting more. I would recommend this book to all romance lovers.

4.5 Sweet Stars!

Source: eARC for Honest Review from Author

GAH! I love Catherine Bybee. Every book that I have read of hers so far I have absolutely adored. This book is part of a series but I read it as a stand alone with no problem and I will be going back to read the others after reading this one.

There is just something special about Catherine's books. They have a great balance of love, drama, chemistry & wholesomeness.

For Monica she holds people at hands reach to protect her heart which gives her the title of Ice Queen but under that cool exterior is a warm loving soul who just wants to help others.

As soon as Monica hears about the devastation down in Jamaica she doesn't hesitate to help out with borderless nurses. Once she gets there she is confronted with all the devastation and loss of the island. What she didn't expect to happen was for her to lose her heart.

Trent is using the island as an escape from his past and guilt and the last thing he wants is any form of commitment. But once his island is destroyed he wants nothing to do but help. Which is flying people around via helicopter during this trying time.

Monica and Trent go about their way to help the island but keeping getting pulled back to one another until they can't deny their attraction any longer. The chemistry is there and once they let loose another earthquake hits the island and creates more damage and danger.

Once back to reality our good friends assumptions and miscommunications rear their ugly heads and cause Trent and Monica to question everything they went through. Add in political warfare from the hospital Monica works in and all hell breaks loose.

But with love and support of her family Monica finally lets her ice shield done and risks her heart for happiness.

I love Trent and Monica together and I can't wait to read more from this series.

I had the pleasure of meeting Catherine Bybee at an author event this year. Though I had seen her books around, I hadn't read any yet. She was terrific and we found what I'd hoped would be just the right book for me - Not Quite Enough - as I love the medical field and romance. So I bought my copy, got it signed, and went on my merry way. Well, let me tell you, when I finally got to reading it, my first thought was "Why didn't I read this sooner?" Then my second thought was, "I wish I had bought more books."

I loved Not Quite Enough. I'm not going to hash out the details of the story - the synopsis covers it enough. But I will say that there wasn't a dull moment from cover to cover. I never got bored or lost attention. Bybee took routes and detours I did not expect, and made what I expected to be a simple romance into so very much more. I liked the complexity of the story, yet how true to life it felt. It was thoroughly engaging. I also loved the medical aspects of the story, and the unique situations the characters were placed in, which I could completely imagine through Bybee's writing. Though I work in the medical community, I don't think the medical situations were too much for someone less familiar with it, unless you hate that sort of thing.

Monica and Trent were wonderful characters. Individually they had great strengths and weaknesses, giving them the range to help others and at the same time grow themselves. And together they felt complete. The romance was really well-written. For such a unique situation, I completely fell for this couple and how their feelings came to be. Somehow Bybee was able to combine quick feelings and physical attraction with deeper emotions and an urgent situation with heartache and longing and love to give this couple all the depths they needed to feel genuine and real. They were tested and made mistakes. But then things happened toward the end that I totally loved and enjoyed the way Bybee put it all together.

This was my first read of Bybee's but it won't be my last. Not Quite Enough can easily be read as a standalone. Other characters were integrated and weaved into the story seamlessly, and even though I didn't know the stories behind the other couples from the previous books, I didn't feel left out of the loop. If anything, the amount I got to know about them simply makes me want to go back to the previous books and read their stories, which I plan to do. All in all, a wonderful contemporary romance!

REVIEW OF AUDIO & EBOOK; MARCH 6, 2014
Narrator: Amy McFadden

McFadden was horrible here. The story was more about the aftermath of a disaster with a romance thrown in the mix. After what I felt was long boring first chapter about A Day in the Life of an ER Nurse, I thought the book would pick up steam with the introduction of the Barefoot Pilot, but nada. It just turned into another disaster-type movie turned into a book and where the locals are called 'natives'. Really? "Natives walked along the side of the road without their normal wave and smile." and complete with bright white teeth against their dark faces..."Their team leader, Dr. Donald Klein, introduced the Jamaican native. Reynard offered a smile, his white teeth in direct contrast to his dark skin. The smile was brief." Yup. Really.

When the narrator laughed during a sex scene, for some reason the sound of that squicked me out. I couldn't continue after that. I'd already skimmed what I could of the rescue scenes but it was too late. Many readers love the rescue/action scenes as the backdrop for the romance so this book worked well for them. I find disaster movies and books boring and when it comes to romance, I prefer the background to be of a "quieter" sort - a murder rather than a massacre; a police procedural rather than a mop-up operation; and even if it involves high-tension action like the rescue of Laura in the heart-pounding prologue of Pamela Clare's Striking Distance, the focus must be sharp and directly on the MCs. In NQE, the hussle and bussle of the rescue effort intruded on what should be the main point of this book - the romance. I didn't care about the rescue efforts that much and what the nurse-cum-heroine had to contend with because I hear it everyday - my son's girlfriend is a doctor at trauma center and regales us with ER cases and a doctor friend does a lot of work with rescue missions so I have rescue stories coming out of ears.

I'd ask for a refund from Audible just for the narrator but I paid only 1.99 for it so I'll let it be. I am so disappointed with this book after enjoying the first in the series:(

I’m a huge fan of Catherine Bybee’s Not Quite series, but Not Quite Enough (Not Quite #3) is my new favorite book of the series. After getting to know Monica Mann in the first books books, I enjoyed getting to delve deeper into her character through her own story as well as learning more about her love interest, Trent Fairchild. I've always liked Monica’s fierce and spunky nature, but Not Quite Enough showed a different side of her character – a side that’s hardworking and dedicated to her job as a nurse. Experiencing the aftermath of a natural disaster through Monica's nursing job is especially heartbreaking because of the detail and care that went into the narrative.

For various reasons, I felt a deeper connection to the two protagonists. Heartbreak is a universally understood concept and both characters are more relatable because they are broken and battered. Exotic locale, disaster zone, and wealthy hero aside, the book is more grounded in reality and it’s easier to connect with the characters and understand some of what they’re going through. While I enjoyed the fantasy of the first two books, I loved all the details of the day-to-day activities of Monica's life and career because it’s her work that provides the backdrop for her relationship with Trent. Their romance is a whirlwind but their instant and intense chemistry makes it easy to forgive the suddenness of their emotional and physical connection.

Like the rest of the Not Quite series, Not Quite Enough is a quick, mostly lighthearted read, with just enough angst to gently tug on the heartstrings and the perfect amount of steam to satisfy romance lovers. Catherine Bybee excels at character development, providing detailed back stories for every character. I feel like I got to know Monica and Trent well, discovering more about them as the story unfolds and I genuinely liked their characters. Along the same vein, the best part of this series is getting to check in with past characters. This is a close and loving extended family and it's thrilling to see how it grows and evolves with each book.

I received an electronic copy of Not Quite Enough via Netgalley. This has no bearing on my rating or review.

4.5 stars.

I first read Not Quite Dating and thought it was okay I didn't have any real plans to read another book by Catherine Bybee but then this little gem popped up on Netgalley. I'm so glad I read it. It was a cute, romantic story with just enough drama to reel you in but not leave you overwhelmed.

I liked Monica's no nonsense attitude and Trent was sweet. I loved the banter about Monica's fear of flying and how he first distracted her on her first helicopter flight.

I have a new found respect for Catherine Bybee. This book is AMAZING! The whole time I wondered why she isn't a television screen writer??
This book had all the elements of a gray's anatomy and more, except about nurse. It's not just a romance. It had humanity, humility.
The characters were more than life like. And the story, how it flowed seamlessly from one event to another proves how well planned this book is!

I can't say enough about this serious or this book in particular! Can't wait for more from Catherine Bybee?

I liked this story alot because it wasn't just a romance. The humane story of Monica going over to Jamaica to help a devastated island after a large earthquake and tsnamai was heart felt to see all the suffering. The sexy barefoot helicopter pilot, Trent, made the story more down to earth. I love the relationship between the two and how it developed. This was a good story full of events and growing attraction that you couldn't put down. Good read! 4.5 stars

4.5++ I don't read a lot of contemporary romance, but I do pick up all of Catherine's books as they are released. This is the third in the "Not Quite" series. This can be read as a stand alone but it is nice to revisit the other characters. I have found that each of Bybee's books just get better. This is the first of her contemporaries that had me reaching for a Kleenex though.

I have loved Monica's fierce protectiveness and witty retorts throughout the Not Quite series so I couldn't wait to get to know her better! Her heart for others was inspiring! Trent's care for her was heart-warming! I loved that this wasn't a vacation fling romance. This was a humanitarian effort turned heart-healing romance.

Salve lettrici,
L’arrivo in Giamaica è catastrofico.
