Why do some authors feel the need to add convoluted family drama to smut books? Sure, some background story to get us to know and care for the characters is always good, but keep it simple if you don't have time to develop it properly between bouts of smuttastic sexcapades.

Having read the previous books in the series, I was curious to see what Gianna, the Marquetti sibling du jour, had to say for herself after ten years away from her family. At the end of the day, I just thought the Marquetti family was a bunch of stupid fools. Ten years of estrangement due to that?! Ack, give me a shovel so I can hit them all!

Note: To be fair, I have to say that I skimmed through the sex scenes because ménage isn't my thing. I don't think that interfered with my understanding of Gianna's character, but one might enjoy the book better if they buy her falling in love with two guys in the span of a few days. As for me, I thought their "love" conversations were contrived and eye-roll-worthy.
