Megan breaks up with her long-term boyfriend and meets her knight in shining armor both at the same time. Tony seems the perfect rescuer and Megan’s quickly smitten, but not so smitten as he. Meanwhile Megan’s roommate wonders whether Tony’s devotion isn’t maybe just a little creepy, though Megan herself just wants to find and follow God’s plan—be it falling in love with the right guy or convincing said roommate that God is real and cares for her.

Escalating boy-friend troubles soon suggest both Tony and the ex might be potential psychos, but when Megan is physically attacked it’s not clear who she should blame, or who she can trust. Tony’s increasingly irrational behavior doesn't help. Nor do the increasingly scary rumors spread by his ex-girlfriend. But Megan's in love. Where should she turn?

In Mishael Austin Witty’s Christian romantic novella it’s clear a girl should turn to prayer and trust in God. But living out that trust can be hard in the face of betrayal and deception. By the final page readers will have a fairly clear idea of who’s done what, but the future remains uncertain for all the characters, giving an incomplete feeling to the story. That said, Shadows of Things to Come presents an exciting and tense part one to the Flashes of Time series, creating fascinating characters, providing plenty of genuinely scary romantic suspense, and promising more to come for Christian YA readers.

Disclosure: I found this free and bought it for its intriguing plot.

"Shadows of Things To Come" by Mishael Austin is a cleverly set up suspense romance. The day Megan splits up from her long time boyfriend Keith, just as he was about to propose, she meets Tony Driscoll, someone she would be interested in, were there not nasty rumours circulating about him, his family and his own past.
Megan's recently rejected ex Keith is still around and obsessed with her, as is Tony very soon and possibly his brother Robert. There is a lot of uncertainty in this story that keeps us guessing, indicating a great talent for story telling.
Unsure who to trust - apart from God - Megan's situation takes on a new dramatic dimension when a series of accidents casts more suspicions over the level of obsession the men have with Megan.
These parts of the story read like a great psychological thriller, the ambiguity of the characters is well highlighted and make this a very entertaining and enjoyable reading experience, while the plot is throwing in a few more surprises and welcome sub plots, such as Tony;s father in prison.
The perspective of the narrative changes between the characters, giving splendid insight into all the characters without ever giving too much away, another highlight in the book.
The setting is a Christian college and so there are some Bible quotes and expressions of faith in God that only really affect the character of the book towards the end, but which some non-Christian readers may find controversial. However, be assured that the story at its core is strong enough for that to be overlooked - if needed.

Since I wrote this book, I guess I have to say that I liked it. And maybe I did. I loved it at times and loathed it at others, but I'm grateful that I got through it. As far as books go, it's not the best out there, but it's certainly not the worst. It's definitely worth the $2.99 Amazon Kindle price (which goes done to NOTHING on April 1, 2012 - just for the day only). Take a look: http://www.amazon.com/Shadows-Things-...
