The Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel #4

How to Tame a Wild Fireman

Rate this book
The Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel have a rebel among them, and there's only one woman who can put his flames out.

Firefighter Patrick "Psycho" Callahan earns his nickname every day. Fast, fit, and a furious worker, he thrives on the danger which helps him forget a near-tragedy that changed his life forever. But when his off-duty carousing gets out of hand, Patrick is sent back to Loveless, Nevada, where the wildfire threatening his hometown has nothing on sizzling Dr. Lara Nelson.

Lara would rather be thought of as the physician who returned to Loveless than as the misfit brought up at a hippie New Age commune. But right now she's focused on her job at hand, patching up injured firemen...until the past hits her in the hard-muscled, blue-eyed form of Patrick Callahan. Now, the embers of their decade-old attraction have ignited into a full-on inferno, as the bad-boy firefighter and the good doctor take a walk on the wild side they'll never forget.

Romantic, passionate, poignant... my favorite of the series so far!

How to Tame a Wild Fireman is the fourth book in Jennifer Bernard’s totally awesome The Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel series. All the books are fun, sexy, romantic… but there’s always a level of poignancy that brings out the “need to take him home and love him all better” in me.

The Story:

This time the man in need of my tender loving care is Patrick “Psycho” Callahan. For ten years he’s been blaming himself for an accident that almost took the life of his mildly autistic, deaf brother. As the older, more mature sibling, he's supposed to be watching after Liam, not getting him into dangerous situations, and if Patrick had been doing his job, the accident would never have happened. Or so Patrick keeps telling himself. And to further prove his fault, Patrick’s dad, ex-governor of Patrick’s home town of Loveless, Nevada, is an arrogant, blow-hard of man who tosses Patrick not just out of the family home, but out of the family, period. With nothing to lose, thinking there's no one who cares, Patrick has more than earned his “Psycho” nickname. After one stunt too many, Captain Brody gives Patrick just what he needs - a chance to burn off some steam - by sending him to Nevada to help with the out of control fires that are threatening Loveless.

Lara Nelson grew up in Loveless, best friends with Liam Callahan. As Patrick’s younger brother, and always under Patrick's watchful eye, the three of them spent a lot of time together until the accident changed everything. She doesn’t totally understand why Patrick left the family the way he did, but it is what it is, and what it isn't is her business. Ten years have past since the accident, and Lara is settled, practicing Family Medicine at a San Diego hospital. Her life is right on track, but she gets a call that the aunt who raised her has passed away and, much to Lara’s chagrin, she’s the heir to all of Aunt Tam’s worldly goods.

Having no choice, Lara returns home to settle the estate, then jumps right into the thick of things, lending her medical expertise to helping care for injured firefighters working the blazes threatening Loveless. But working this closely with Patrick, Lara finds herself in a whole different kind of “thick of things.”

My Review:

Like I said, I really love these books. They’re not just sexy, they’re truly engaging stories. The characters… their lives, their loves, their trials and their triumphs… every one of these “cursed” firemen are amazing, tormented, loveable people in need of women strong enough to put up with them. What? It’s true! These guys aren’t perfect, but they’re close enough for me! And the stories are always entertaining without being too fluffy or over-the-top dramatic!

Ms. Bernard is one talented author and, lucky for us, she puts that talent to work giving us stories we can get lost in and happily ever afters we can believe in.

My thanks to Avon Book and Edelweiss for providing me with a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

Jennifer Bernard takes us deep into the lives of her characters. She gives us a front and center seat to watch the story of Patrick and Lara slowly unfold. Each is plagued by their own personal issues with returning home. I utterly enjoyed witnessing the Patrick and Lara work through their issues, rediscover what they left behind and bond over their journey while rediscovering an attraction that never died.

How to Tame a Wild Fireman was unpredictable as the fires Patrick “Psycho” fights while the passion burned as hot as a blue flame. Lots of side stories and plot directions held interesting background into Patrick's and Lara's lives. I found myself guessing on its direction and trying to discern the behavior and choices of the characters and secondary characters which kept me invested in the outcome. Romance, daring rescues and re-finding family, How to Tame a Wild Fireman was an enjoyable and entertaining story.

I received this ARC copy of How to Tame A Wild Fireman from HarperCollins - Avon in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication September 24, 2013.

Summary
Patrick Callahan, or also known As "Psycho" is everything as the nickname portrays. He takes wild risks and is a bit crazy. But on a hot and bored day, Psycho gets a little drunk and crosses a line. So the Captain decides that he can't afford the strain of Psycho's latest endeavor and sends him to his hometown to fight a wild fire. As much as this is a punishment, Psycho doesn't see it that way. Even though he hasn't talked to his family in years, a wild fire that isn't able to be contained, just right up his ally. But there is one person he least expected to find in Loveless, Nevada...sexy Lara Nelson. Lara has just learned of her aunt's death and learned that she inherited the Center  for Sexual healing or also widely known as a Hippie commune. Lara always hated growing up in such a place, but she is desperate to find a buyer and return back to her normal and average life of being a doctor. Then she runs into a man she once knew as a cocky kid who was never heard from again after the fateful accident that changed all of their lives. Lara never expected that Patrick would be the one man she would want in a sexual way, but as they discover a hidden desire for each other they also find a powerful love.
The Hero
Patrick Callahan is the son of a rancher, politician and once a governor. On a vacation from college, he comes home and he and his brother get into an accident, an accident that he is blamed for. His father disowns him, blaming Patrick for his brother's injury and this moment changed the course of Patrick's life. Instead of finishing college in political science, he became a firefighter. Being a firefighter helped him with his urge to have a adrenalin rush and daredevil personality, and Patrick knows that if it wasn't for serving as a firefighter he would probably be in jail or out on the streets. Psycho is everything the name implements and boy has he done some crazy things. In previous books, we don't see much of him except his crazy acts and his superficial attitude or that is what he portrays to most people. In this book, we see a deeper side to Patrick, a side he has kept hidden from everyone including himself. We see Patrick face his past in order to save his future. We see a man that is full of courage and strength, willing to sacrifice for those he loves and has a soft side for pretty women and baby Llama's.
The Heroine
Lara Nelson has changed from the timid gothic girl she was in high school. Her parents died in an accident when she was young and she was sent to live with her Aunt. An Aunt that was a bit hippie and was very open about everything sex. Lara never felt comfortable where she grew up, she always felt like she was the oddball of school and she had one friend...Liam, Patrick's younger brother. Lara never realized she would be a doctor one day. She has changed much from who she was in High School. Lara still is hesitant about anything sexual, but she is intelligent, dedicated and has a caring heart. Lara was a heroine that has a fiery nature. She has such an open heart for everyone, and she can be very diplomatic just like every doctor needs to be. I really liked how her personality shines through in those unique moments.
Plot and Story Line
How To Tame A Wild Fireman is my favorite of the series so far. I really enjoyed the previous installments, but there was something that really called to me in this book. One its Psycho as the hero and boy is he one crazy man, but a delicious and sexy one. The beginning starts off pretty amusing, and boy the whole Pool scenario...the crazy things that happen when you get drunk. Then yippee for a wild fire scenario and facing your past. I just loved this scenario, and this is also where we see much more to Psycho than the crazy stunts he pulls.
"I know I may seem like a reckless driver," he said, swinging the wheel to avoid a jackrabbit bouncing across the road. "But I've never even gotten a ticket."

"Is that because the cops never caught up with you?"

"Haha. Quite the comedienne. No, it's because I'm an outstanding driver, and if I were to break a traffic rule, they'd be so in awe of my technique they'd forget about giving me a ticket and simply applaud my expertise."

He is one good firefighter and just jumps right in. Then Psycho and Lara see each other again. Psycho always has had a thing for Lara, but Lara hasn't until now. And boy oh boy do these two really have to battle inner demons in this book. Psycho has to face his family, especially his formidable father. Lara has to choose what to do with the Sexual center, which was quite different. Its not everyday we get a "hippie" type scenario in a romance, but I really gobbled every delicious scenario that enters into this story. What was quite fun was how these two keep running into each other. I adored the baby Llama that Psycho rescues and clings to him like crazy. I couldn't get enough of the small town country feel to the story, and with the added intensity of a wild fire it really increased the tension and excitement of the story. The romance is sexy and fun, and I loved how well it seemed to flow. And what I really admired was how Jennifer Bernard mixes humor with a sensual story.
"I want you," she said in a husky murmured. " I want your hot, hard, thick, throbbing..."

Oh God, he was going to come in his pants, right here in the Love 'Em.

"...Lotus Root."

The Cover
This might be my favorite cover of the series. I love the pose here, it's so romantic and sweet but sexy at the same time. I love the background of the wild fire.

I totally adored this book! Wish I could give it ten stars!

Together, Patrick Callahan, aka Psycho, and Lara Nelson, pool their skills as firefighter and doctor to fight the fire, save lives, face familial problems, and their mutual desire for each other.

Jennifer Bernard has done it big time with HOW TO TAME A WILD FIREMAN. Reading this one is like riding a roller coaster of emotion, action, sexual fire, and heartache such that made me want the ride to continue and never stop. I’ve always liked Psycho but in this story, we see a sensitive side of Patrick that had me falling in love with him almost immediately, or well, at least as soon as he carried an adorable llama out of the fire. I love a man who isn’t afraid to admit he can’t do everything, can’t fix everything, and can admit when he’s made a mistake. Jennifer wrote the most amazing hero character ever and I’m in love with him.

Lara is tough as nails but has the biggest heart a gal can have. Even when angry, hurt, or scared, she can find it in herself to look out for others. Always feeling like an outsider, she revels in being part of something greater and that makes her someone I could easily have as a best friend. When her protective instincts kick in there’s no telling who she’ll stand up to and when she does, you want to cheer for her.

HOW TO TAME A WILD FIREMAN by Jennifer Bernard is extraordinary and enthralling. It takes us on a journey from San Gabriel to Nevada and back. It makes us worry our book or reader as to how she’s going to get Patrick and Lara together. Then they’re off to Mexico and a landslide of emotion than will have you falling in love with Patrick even harder, if you aren’t already. When the fire threatens their loved ones back in Nevada, they rush back to Loveless where danger lights an even greater fire that tears open truths, pulls families together, and begins to tame even the toughest Burl Ives-type character in Big Dog Callahan.

I highly recommend HOW TO TAME A WILD FIREMAN by Jennifer Bernard to anyone who wants to be swept away by a romance filled with action, danger, self-revelations, love of family, reconciliations, and falling in love so hard you’ll never want it to end. In other words, this is a mega-must read for all romance lovers.

Perfectly funny, charming and steamy! I had the best time reading this book and I did not want to put it down. I seriously contemplated a sick day just so I could finish it (well, maybe not seriously but it did run through my mind, ha). When you open the pages of this book it is like you fall into the lives of Patrick and Lara. You are not just an observer you feel as if you are there with them throughout the book.

Patrick or Psycho is the perfect male – he is hot, sensitive, bad-@$$, sexy and vulnerable. He is just a great character and the details describing his tattoos will certainly tip you over the edge (well, I guess if you like that sort of thing). Lara is sweet, kind, smart, and like most of us running from something in our past. It is interesting to watch the dynamic relationship between Patrick and Lara and Lara and Liam, Patrick’s brother. I also appreciate the representation of a person with a disability as “normal” – whatever that is. I wish there had been more resolution between Patrick, Liam and the rest of their family – maybe that will be forthcoming in another book in the series. These are just the type of characters you could read about on and on and on and never tire of them.

This book is part of Jennifer Bernard’s Bachelor Firemen series, but it certainly can be read independently. I have never read any of the other books in this series (something I hope to rectify very, very soon) and was able to pick up with the story. From what I have gathered from others who have read the series, the other books introduce different characters but each book has its own independent storyline. The characters are reoccurring in the books which adds to the continuity of the series.

If you are into books that are hot, steamy and about coming home for second chances this is definitely worth your time!

I love Jen Bernard's Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel series. I have enjoyed each book and each time I finish the latest, I aways say it's my favorite. Following my trend, How to Tame a Wild Fireman is my favorite book in this series to date. I have always been intrigued by Psycho, now I am a whole lot in love with him!

Psycho tends to do crazy things... part of that could be the adventurous part of him, the other part of it could be that he uses those things to mask emotional scars that he is he is trying to hide. After getting into a bit of trouble involving a digger and a plan for a swimming pool by the fire station, he volunteers to return to his hometown to work as a smoke jumper. Returning home proves more difficult than anticipated when he comes face to face with Lara and his family who still blame him for an accident that injured his younger brother.

Lara wants to be seen as more than the weird kid from the hippie commune. She has gone to school, proven herself and now she is back and has inherited her Aunt's commune, along with it's Goddesses (her Aunt's quirky friends/colleagues). They want to keep the commune open offering it's special form of therapy (lots of laughs here), but the part of Lara that needs to feel normal just wants to be done with it so she can get back to her normal life... then she runs into Patrick, and there is more than one wildfire ignited in Loveless.

Patrick and Lara have page-burning-turning chemistry. Their banter is fun and entertaining and this story is full of quirky characters from the Goddesses to a funny rescued animal that also loves Psycho. Be prepared for lots of action, laughter and steamy lovemaking! I was looking for information and the release date for the next Bachelor Fireman book as soon as I turned the last page (Four Weddings and a Fireman- Release Date Set 2/25/2014).

I give How to Tame a Wild Fireman 5 STARS and have added it to my FAVORITE BOOKS list! I am so excited to have discovered this author and this series. I look forward to more great stories from Jen Bernard!

Oh Psycho....Came close, but Harry is still me man. Great Read, in keeping with the rest of the Bachelor Firemen, Jennifer Bernard gives us Laughs, Heartache and a WHOLE LOTTA Sparks to be flying, and I am NOT talking about the ones coming from a Burning Building.

Psycho (Patrick Callahan), is as sexy as his nickname, and the one woman who could always get under his skin, has come back into his life, and turns it UPSIDE DOWN!!

Loved watching Psycho and Lara sniffing around each other until the clothes went flying!!

Full review to come, but this one is a MUST READ...After you read about Harry that is...in The Fireman Who Loved Me.

Loved it. Patrick is one of the Bachelor Firemen who is also one of the most intense. He works hard and he plays hard. But when some of his off-duty antics tick off his boss, he gets sent to Nevada to help fight the wildfires there. Back in his hometown, he has no intention of getting in touch with his family, who kicked him out ten years ago. He is stunned to see Lara Nelson, his brother's best friend, who he'd been attracted to back then. Lara had returned to Loveless to decide what to do with the property she'd inherited. As a doctor, she's been roped into helping treat injured firefighters. She never expected to see Patrick there or feel an out of control attraction to him.

I loved both Patrick and Lara. Patrick has earned his nickname of "Psycho" because of the risks he takes both on and off the job. While he appears to simply enjoy the rush, it's really a way for him to escape his memories. Ten years earlier he and his younger brother, who is deaf and mildly autistic, were involved in an accident that Patrick feels he was responsible for. His father felt the same and kicked Patrick out of the house and the family. Patrick's years as a firefighter have been one way that he attempts to atone for his mistakes. Helping with the wildfires in Loveless is another way. He doesn't plan to contact his family at all, but that ends when he is spotted by both Lara and his younger sister. I loved seeing the different sides to Patrick that come out in this book. He is the protective older brother, who wants to help his little sister. He is also still fighting the guilty feelings over the accident that injured his brother. That brother has left home and Patrick is desperate to find him and talk to him. There is also the son who cares about his parents, in spite of how they treated him, and how he takes his own time to make their home fire safe. I loved the sweet side of him that came out with his rescue of the llama and how the critter loves him so much. And then there's the sexy firefighter who is so attracted to Lara that he can hardly see straight. What was really fun was seeing him get to know Lara the woman and realize that she was more than just a woman to sleep with. He has his moments of male idiocy, but he also has times when he is very sensitive to her needs. I loved seeing him begin to think of a future with her and trying to figure out how to make it happen. I also loved the way that Lara makes him think about things that happened in the past and start to look at them from a different angle. I also loved his reunion with his brother and his acceptance of all the changes they have both endured.

Lara had spent her teen years in Loveless, taken in by her aunt after her parents' deaths. She spent those years feeling ashamed of the place, embarrassed by the purpose of her aunt's business. She endured a lot of teasing and prejudice from her classmates, her only friend being Patrick's brother Liam. She never understood his family's actions after the accident, but put it mostly out of her mind after she left to go to college. She avoided going back to Loveless, wanting to put that whole time behind her. When her aunt died and left the property to her, she planned to go back, sell it, and return to California. When she arrived in Loveless she ended up putting her medical knowledge to use helping to treat the firefighters. She also discovered that selling the property wouldn't be easy, and that she cared too much about her aunt's friends to just kick them out. She was surprised to see Patrick back in Loveless and discovered that the faint attraction she had felt as a teenager has become as big a fire as the one the firefighters are battling. She's never felt anything like it before and had assumed that she was one of those people who just never got into the whole passion thing. I loved seeing the effect that Patrick had on her. She also got to know him better and saw how he used his reputation to run from his feelings about the accident. I loved the way that she made him take a fresh look at the events of that night. She also doesn't just sit back and put up with the things that he says or does and has no problem letting him have it when she's mad at him. She has a tendency to say some mean things when she's mad, but has the heart to apologize when she calms down. I liked seeing her start to take a look at her own life and choices and see where she wants her life to go. I loved her support of her friend Liam in his current choices, and the way that she brought about his reunion with Patrick.

The romance between Patrick and Lara had some interesting ups and downs. They went from being just in it for the physical, knowing that they would only be in Loveless for a short time, to trying to figure out a way for them to be together more. Patrick slowly came to realize that he is capable of a real relationship with Lara, but had trouble trying to put his feelings into words. Lara's evolving from a rather passionless scientific type to the wild woman she is around Patrick was fun to see. She had to make the jump to trusting her feelings and following her heart. I loved seeing them get to know each other as they are now. The final resolution of their lives together was great.

The secondary story of Patrick's family and the things they were going through was really good. It gave an excellent insight to how Patrick ended up where he did and why. It also showed Patrick in a good light as he made sure his parents' house was safe, in spite of the way his father was acting. There was a lot of maturing on Patrick's part, as he went from his old way of trying to anger his dad to actually trying to get along with him and protect him.

I also really enjoyed the part that the "Goddesses" played. It started out with them seeming like really odd hippie-type people, but got a lot more grounded the more I saw of them. Their love for Lara was obvious in the way they had tried to take care of her as a teen, and how they want her to do what's right for her now. I enjoyed all their comments about the firefighters as they were helping out at the command center, and later when Vader came to help Patrick with the repairs. It was fun to see them help Lara see herself differently.

How to Tame a Wild Fireman is book four in The Bachelor Fireman of San Gabriel. I have really enjoyed this series and have come to anxiously await the next book so we can find out what is happening with all the characters we’ve met and have fallen in love with. This story belongs to Patrick (Psycho).

I have said it before, but it bears repeating Ms. Bernard is a master at describing a fire scene. Whether it’s a building or a forest fire, she captures your attention and truly has the ability to place her readers right in the scene. Her knowledge of the trade is well documented within the pages of her stories.

To be completely honest, I felt that this book was too busy with subplots to completely draw me into the underlying love story. Lara and Patrick both have a lot of baggage in their pasts and it gets revisited and hashed through quite a bit. As much as I understand that needed to happen, it seemed overboard to me and completely overpowered the story of Patrick and Lara. They bounced between Nevada and California quite a bit and even made a stop in Mexico. All it did was clutter up the base of the plot and introduced some unnecessary circumstances in my opinion.

This is a series that I will follow through until the end. Even though I had a few issues with some of the storylines in this book, I loved reading about Patrick and catching up with all the guys at the firehouse. When they have scenes together you are guaranteed a lot of laugh out loud moments. Their banter back and forth is hysterical. As usual with a Jenifer Bernard story the sex is smoking, the characters are lovable and the attention to detail is impeccable. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.

Lara and Patrick's present-day story begins with Patrick's cavalier attitude toward committing a dangerous crime while he's drunk. His behavior might have made sense if her were a teenaged frat boy, but he's a 29/30-year-old firefighter--not cute. Grow up.

The overall backstory and weaving of the current familes'circumstances with the drama of the wildfire and drought conditions is nicely executed. J.B. is a good stroryteller, but her talents don't totally offset the fact that Lara and Patrick are presented as whiny, short-sighted and mean-spirited, especially when dealing with each other.

And Patrick's parents?... His dad is an emotionally abusive, bombastic dictator. His mom doesn't do anything to fight for her oldest child for 10 years; just allows her husband to evict her 19-year-old from their home, family, and college. She doesn't secretly keep in contact with him, slip him money to stay in school or anything at all except wring her hands. Yet, in a conversation near the end of the story, Lara and Candy have the nerve to call each other "brave!"

Patrick's brother Liam, their sister Megan, his friend Vader, the goddesses, the llama and the wildfire scenes make How to Tame a Wild Fireman an entertaining read in spite of Lara and Patrick's juvenile behavior.

FAVORITE STORY IN THE SERIES

Psycho's story is easily my favorite from the series to date. Patrick is from a small town in Nevada called, Loveless. After a tragic accident he never returns to that town and his past. That is until his Captain offers his an opportunity to go help with the wildfires that are endangering his hometown. Patrick hasn't seen his family or Lara in what seems like an eternity. Both left Loveless to never turn back. Love him or hate him, Patrick wasn't the kind of guy you ever forgot.
The old friends to lovers is one of my favorite troupes. Patrick is cocky and forward and obviously very interested in his old friend, Lara. Lara? Not so much.
"I don't think we should be involved anymore. We'll still be friends, of course. I'm glad we got to know each other again. And I really appreciated the... well, having sex with you."
I have to say, I almost died with how hard I laughed at her saying this. Can we say awkward?

Of the 8 in this series that I have read so far, there isn't a point that sticks with me more than when Patrick is trying to prove to her how he feels.
"But it comes down to this. I love you. I want you. I trust you more than anyone I know. I admire you. I respect you. And I can't keep my hands off you. To me, that adds up to spending my life with you. But, if you aren't there yet, I'll wait. Not patiently, though. I'll be the kid in the backseat going, 'Are we there yet, are we there yet?' "

3.5 STARS

There's more than meets the eye when it comes to Psycho, aka Patrick Callahan. When he finally takes things too far, the chief sends him on a job fighting a wildfire in his hometown. History, heartache, and unresolved issues plague Psycho, but he commits to the job as a way to make amends with the chief. He doesn't plan on catching up with old friend and onetime crush, Lara Nelson. Lara's in town to figure out what to do with the business that her aunt willed to her.

Patrick and Lara both took a defining event and used it as a springboard to change their lives. Patrick chose firefighting and Lara chose medicine. I enjoyed the character of Patrick's brother, Liam, and only wished that I could read more about him. I did take issue with the Big Dog big reveal at the end. I find it hard to believe that no one questioned the situation before Lara got there. Having experienced a similar situation first hand, that seemed fairly unrealistic. Back to the good stuff: Patrick and Lara had undeniable chemistry. It was almost a second chance at love, except neither realized the other had feelings in the past.

I love Jennifer Bernard and her Firemen of San Gabriel. HOW TO TAME A WILD FIREMAN is an awesome edition to this series. Each book can be read as a stand alone title, but I will say that you fall a little more in love with each new book that comes out. Patrick "Psycho" is one hot fireman, with a hot story that will leave you smiling, laughing, and sighing. I loved the attraction and story around Lara and Patrick. While at the same time, I loved watching Patrick/Psycho reconnect with his family. There are deep emotions and some funny ones in this great story. If you like romances with fireman, strong intelligent women, and story-lines that keep you quickly turning pages then HOW TO TAME A WILD FIREMAN is the perfect read! I can't wait to read what's next from Ms. Bernard! I highly recommend this one to everyone, just be sure to keep a glass of water nearby, you never know when you'll need it!

I couldn't put this book down!! A great addition to the already fantastic series by Jennifer Bernard. I like how she brought us away from San Gabriel and back to Psycho's home town, but never lost site of Station 1 in San Gabriel. We still kept tabs on the crew even though most of the book was not at the firehouse. The fact that Psycho was fighting wildfires in his hometown, really brings home the fact that most firefighters will do anything they can to keep their family and loved ones safe.

Thanks for another great read!

Not bad, but not great either. It got a little tedious in the middle. The author kept throwing all sorts of random crap into the story which didn't actually do much to enhance or move the story forward. I'll be honest, I skipped entire chapters just to get to the end, and I don't feel as though I missed much! The entire premise of the story hinged on a LOT of coincidences too, so I had to suspend some sense of reality. All that being said, it was a fun read, but not terribly memorable.

Even the llama falls in love with Psycho! <3
Psycho takes time away from the firehouse to return home and volunteer as a smokejumper when a nasty wildfire breaks out nearby.
Dr. Lara Nelson is on work leave to manage an estate willed to her and agrees to help at the base of operation's command center in the medical tent.
This is, by far, the FUNNEST and FUNNIEST Bernard book to-date. The commune residents and the llama really ramp up the entertainment level!

A good story with plenty of exciting action and I enjoyed the llama. I generally liked the characters and how they related but there were a couple times midway when heroine made poor choices that just didn't sit right. Doctor Lara goes to her hometown to sell inherited property and childhood 'friend' firefighter Patrick returns to fight a nearby fire.

Best bachelor firefighter story yet for me

Of course I haven't read them all yet, but this one really resonated with me. I loved both Lara and Patrick "Psycho." They were very well developed characters who dealt with a wide variety of problems really we'll. I loved the llama. She added a cute touch to the story.

Patrick and his younger brother's best friend Lara met 10 years later after disaster strikes. How they both deal with what happened then and in the meantime make them very special characters. You saw only glimpses of Psycho one the previous books, but here he really shines. I really just loved the whole thing. The wildfires and family issues just made this more deep, in my opinion. You really do want to read them in order, starting with One Fine Fireman novella and then going on to books 1 - 4 which is this one. If you like hot scenes, action and a good dose of humor sprinkled in, you should love this'd series. Besides, who doesn't love firemen? Enjoy!

But right now she's focused on the job at hand, patching up injured firemen . . . until the past hits her in the hard-muscled, blue-eyed form of Patrick Callahan. Now, the embers of their decade-old attraction have ignited into a full-on inferno, as the bad-boy firefighter and the good doctor take a walk on the wild side they'll never forget.
Totally book candy. 5 stars

HOW TO TAME A WILD FIREMAN is the fourth in Jennifer Bernard’s Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel series. Patrick “Psycho” Callahan has been running hard away from his past and throwing himself completely into being the best firefighting machine ever. Extra training? He’s on it. Need a volunteer? He’s it. When a temporary gig on a hotshot crew brings him face to face with his hometown and his brother’s best friend, Lara Nelson, he’s hit suddenly with the reminder that running away hasn’t really provided the peace he hadn’t recognized he’s been needing.

For her part, Lara’s done her best to set aside those years too, but inheriting her beloved aunt’s sexual wellness and healing center yanks her right back to her past as well.

Jennifer Bernard writes Patrick and Lara warmly and the people who love them help nudge them to face their pasts and their fears. Loved seeing these two find their happiness!
