Charlotte Pence is the author of Many Small Fires (Black Lawrence Press, 2015), The Branches, the Axe, the Missing (winner of the BLP Black River chapbook prize), and Weaves a Clear Night (winner of Flying Trout chapbook prize). A professor of English at Eastern Illinois University, Pence also edited The Poetics of Song Lyrics (University Press of Mississippi, 2012), which explores the intersections between poetry and songs.
Charlotte transforms the painfully mundane task of essay writing into, dare I say, an enjoyable, and enriching experience. Curse her for making me want to write more...for making me feel like I can rise above the din of mediocrity and actually share my thoughts in a way that is meaningful for both writer and reader.
Used this book for ideas on how to break down essay writing for my fifth grade students! Never thought that I would be able to apply to my students but was pleased to be wrong. Easy to read!
