This was a good story but it was a tough one to get through because it did not hold my attention as well as the others. I was growing tired of the saga of Ross and was just wishing that by this time they would just hurry up, catch him, and be done with it. As it was, I think Ross' end was dealt with as an afterthought. He was mentioned in all of the books so there should have been more than a 'well he's dead - let's get married' sort of ending.
Still, the story concerns Brandon and Mariana and their romance is one that makes the book. They are drawn together rather haphazardly it seems, and Mariana does not want to get involved with Brandon as much as her heart wants her to. She has a duty to perform yet the more time she spends with Brandon and the other Scotsmen she does not want to go back to King Edward. It also turns out that in returning she may be facing a brutal death at the hands of a cruel king.
There is subtle commentary that reminds the reader that women were no more thought of than the sheep or cattle that men owned. Noble women had dowries or property that could make a man rich. Women were there only for pleasure and to bear the 'heir and spare'. Mariana is a fallen noble woman trained specifically to pleasure men. She is prettier than 'just a maid' and therefore she becomes desired by a king whose favour she dare not fall out of.
In a world where virginity is a commodity that increases a woman's worth Mariana does not have that value. She is used goods. She has been mistress to a king who is the Scots enemy. Hardly a creature to be desired. Brandon sees first Mariana's beauty but then he sees beneath that to the substance of a woman that attracts him. Strongly. He wants to deny the attraction he feels since he believes his desires must bow down in favour of what his laird wants.
It doesn't work that way.
Thankfully, Laird Wallace knows that a man will be caught in love's snare. He does not mind, and he is even willing to encourage Cupid's folly as long as the warrior so thus ensnared is still his to wield at the enemy.
Ross is incidental and truly there ought not to be much thought given to him, but I do like it when a bit more is given to even a bad character when his end arrives.
What makes this a 5-star rating despite my hesitance and wish for Ross is that the story of Brandon and Mariana was worth Ross' intrusion.

In this action, adventure, historical romance we get a history lesson, a romance, a heroine with backbone, strength, courage, something worth fighting for and a hero that would do what it took to take part in his countrymen’s freedom from the tyrant king Longshanks. This medieval romance gives more with each new additional romance added to its series. The was something different in this romance between Lady Marian and Laird Brandon Sinclair. I followed their romance from the meeting to the very end with enjoyment. I found that with this addition to the series. You really did not need to have the previous books under your reading belt to follow along with what was going on. Women will do what they feel best for them when they have been used and abused and so willingly sacrificed to the so-called enemy. I am certain Longshanks was not quite expecting the little surprise that he got.
Eliza gave a new Laird with his own strength, convictions, determination and the highlander protective streak that I love so much. The passion levels were a bit out there than with the other reads of this series. I attribute that to the fact that Lady Mariana was used by the king for his own purposes. She had her innocence stripped from her long ago. The danger. The passion. The secrets. This adventure was brought to life and delivered a good read.
"The Highlander's Triumph" is the story of Mariana, the mistress to the King of England, who is sent to Scotland to tell off the rebels and ends up finding love with one of them instead. Highlanders win every single time! This book is the fifth in The Stolen Brides series by Eliza Knight. You can jump right into this book if you wish (it's definitely a stand alone book) but if you plan on reading the other books, read the other ones first or else you will know what happens to some of the other characters in the series.
Oh, Brandon and Mariana, how I loved you so! This book is filled with a really hot romance and a lot of action! I really liked the story between them. Mariana is the mistress to the King and when she is sent on this super dangerous journey to Scotland, she does not even blink. You have to appreciate that kind of bravery. Also, as a King's mistress, she is not nearly as shy as some of the other heroines in this book... so much hotness! Brandon makes for a really fantastic hero. I loved reading about him. He is trying hard to fight for his country and is not afraid to stand up for what he really believes in, which is definitely an admirable quality.
That being said, there is also a lot of great historical detail. I loved being able to see what was going on in Scotland at the time. The historical detail really added a lot to this book. This book is probably my favorite in the series so far. It had a really nice balance between the love story and also what was going on in Scotland at the time.
I really struggled with The Highlander's Triumph. I didn't like how Lady Marianna was written. Brandon was just so so in my opinion.. I really can't put my finger on what cause my dislike of the story!! I couldn't connect with these two characters the way I did with the other H/H in the previous books. Sorry I really wanted to love this book or at least like it,especially after the big entrance of Lady Marianna and Brandon toward the end of bk4 The Highlanders Warrior Bride.
Pretty cute, and again nice to have something other than the virgin-bride standard. The sex scenes were a bit annoying, I actually started just skipping passed them, but the story over all was entertaining.
This was a wonderful addition to The Stolen Bride Series. Eliza Knight does a wonderful job of suspense, romance & intrigue. I can honestly say I have enjoyed them all.
The Highlander's Triumph by Eliza Knight is an interesting Medieval Romance, set in 1298 Highlands, Scotland. #5 in "The Stolen Bride" series, but it can be read as a stand alone. "He was a warrior fighting for Scottish freedom. She was his enemy’s mistress." Laird Brandon Sinclair is a brawn highlander, who has sworn his life to the Scottish clause and his fealty to Robert the Bruce. Lady Mariana, is a French lady, who was given to King Edward as his mistress. She was sent to a village to draw the Bruce's men into a trap. All she wants is to escape the tyrannical King Edward, but she's left in a burning village, where Brandon and his men find her. Was she sent to spy by Longshanks? Brandon and Mariana are a complex but intriguing couple. An English King's mistress and a Scottish warrior, will they find love and a HEA? Slow at times, but generally a good Scottish Romance, although, "The Highlander’s Triumph" was not my favorite of this series, I found I was invested in the story, the plot and the characters. With danger around every corner, sparks flying between Brandon and Mariana, treachery, and more, this story does have much to recommend it to readers. I have been waiting patiently for "The Highlander's Sin", which is next on my list to read. "The Stolen Bride" series is a complicated, compelling and intriguing series. I would recommend reading Brandon and Mariana's story! A good Scottish Romance! I received a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own. Rating: 4 Heat rating: Hot Reviewed by: AprilR
Brandon and Mariana's story. Book 5 in the STolen Bride Series. These two met after the Ross had burned a village and left her to either live or die. Mariana was Longshank's mistress. He had sent her with a message for The Ross, the highlander who turned on the Scots and supported the English during the war. Mariana is just a high class whore. She has had so many men that she does whatever the English King tells to. She will stay with any man he orders her to have sex with. Brandon falls in love with her even knowing what she is. You can read this book to learn what is between she and Brandon. I am not fond of this book. As much as I love reading Eliza Knight books I just cannot recommend this as a good read. I just had to make myself pick up this book and read to the ending. The fact that she has had so many men is beyond my beliefs.
Laird Brandon Sinclair has given his life to the Scottish cause, Swearing fealty to Robert the Bruce, he will stop at nothing to see oppression end. Brandon is determined to get her back. Stealing Longshank's secrets felt like a victory, however, taking his woman will be this Highlander's ultimate triumph.
Laird Brandon is also a warrior supporting Wallace and The Bruce. Mariana is the French mistress to the English King. Brandon rescues her from a village fire and takes her back to the castle to determine her role. Is she a spy for the King? They cannot control the attraction between them but trust is difficult. Their story is steamy and action packed. I always enjoy the male characters the most in these highlander books and Brandon is no exception. Hot.
Another great book about the Sutherland’s and their cousins. This story is about Brandon Sinclair who is fighting for Robert the Bruce against King Edward. Brandon meets a lady that is trying to get out of a burning village. She has secrets she can’t reveal. This is a story that anyone that enjoys this genre will enjoy
This book 5 in series but can be read as a stand-alone
Unique storyline filled with well crafted characters.
A woman with a past filled with men who’ve mistreated her meets a man who promises to protect her. Their story takes a reader on a journey through mistrust, fear, danger and love.
I immediately disliked Brandon, because he got all uppity about Julianna (LOVE her) and his attitude towards this woman that he had JUST met. UGH. And Marianna is a whiner and way to simpering for my tastes. I had to finish it. Just in case it added anything to the series, but my oh my, what a waste of time. Agree with others, I kept skipping the "sex" scenes.
I enjoyed this installment, mostly because of Marianna. She is not your typical heroine, and I enjoyed the fact that she was the King's mistress and all that entailed (as opposed to being a virgin, never been kissed, etc).
I'm hoping that the next book tells more about the warrior priest, and why he stole her ring.

Good read. A little steamier than I like but still enjoyed the character development, the intrigue of the story line and historical times. Will read others in series since they were loaned to me.
So this book I am sure I wont be able to read as the h is the kings whore. I don't do mistresses or whores, and although I realize she probably had no choice in the matter the author did.
This felt like a good story outline with more original characters, but with increasingly copy and paste elements from the earlier books. The characters deserved better.
This was my second book by this author and I read it immediately after finishing the fourth book of the series. After starting in the middle of the series, I would highly recommend reading the series in order as some prior information that is good background knowledge is not re-summarized as some series authors do so nicely.
This book was a big disappointment compared to the story and writing style of the fourth book. I didn't hit any real action/adventure or story line until about 130/140 pages into the book. I found the actions by Brandon's group implausible, but kept reading, interested in seeing how it played out.
I don't have a category for DNF in my reading shelves, but this book may be why I add the shelf and follow through one day. I rely heavily on the posted, brief book summary, average Goodreads rating and somewhat on reviews and shelves by other readers.
This story turned out to not have much substance. A big section of the book after the action/adventure started turned it into an explicit bodice-ripper. This was very inconsistent with the fourth book or I'd have never continued reading the author or series. For me, there was a weak, poorly written story written around a huge sex scene.
Also disappointing was that this book showed no effort to improve grammar and punctuation. It is hard to believe that either book is a final published edition of the book or that proofreaders and editors had a hand in its production.
I have enjoyed this series I love the Scottish brogue of the men. I can actually picture the men speaking and there is nothing like a man with an accent. This series is a fun so simple read. If you are looking for a book to read at the beach or just during downtime, then look no further. This is a series and in order to know the characters being referenced along with the build up of the storyline, they should be read in order. However, they can stand by themselves too, but you will get more from the book if you read the stories, in order. Anyways, the books in this series are like potato chips, you cannot settle with just one.
Book 5 in the series, THE HIGHLANDER'S TRIUMPH is Brandon and Mariana’s story.
Brandon is so mmhmm. He's one of those characters that has you wishing you could step into the heroine's shoes for a day…. or a month.
Mariana is one of my favorite heroines. She has guts, gusto and steel for a backbone.
Another not to miss story in the Stolen Brides series. The action, adventure and romance had me glued to the pages from the first chapter. Eliza Knight will continue to be one of my favorite and most read authors.
I received a copy for review on Celtic Dragon Book Reviews. All opinions are my own.
Please don't read the below because I pretty much spoil the book for you.
Spoilers ahead...
Well, ok, you have been warned.
OK -- this book kind of jumped the shark for me. For a chick with a broken arm, she doesn't complain about it much during all of the jarring horse riding and highlander riding. ;) And the fact that she never once gets preggers for all of the years she has bedded tons of men and the first couple of times she's in the sack with the highlander, she has twins? Go highlander sperm!
::sigh:: I'm still going to read the other books though...

Just finished the book and couldn't put it down, it was so good!! Lady Marianna has always been told what she had to do since she was 15 and became the King of France's mistress, then she we'd, he husband died and she was made the King of England's mistress. She never had a choice in it!! Laird Sinclair finds Lady Marianna as she escaped the burning carnage!! He immediately takes a liking to her that grows into more!! A wonderfully written story!!
This was a slightly different story as the main female character was French and not the innocent female that the other heroines were. It was a good read and held my attention throughout. This story had more plot than book 4 did.
Not as good as previous books in the series. I got bored with it. The audiobook narration was good but the story was hard to get into and the ending was dull. Not a total loss but not the best.
