A perfect blend of provocative beauty and fighting skill kept her safe in the most dangerous situations. But Maggie Bennett had no protection against her feelings for the handsome, mysterious Randall Carter. Torn by memories of past hurts, hopes for new love tossed her back into his arms and onto the bloody trail of a notorious terrorist. Maggie and Randall would be swept on a wild roller-coaster ride of violence and betrayal ... targets for an assassin's bullet and a passion striking without warning from the dark depths of the heart.
Anne Stuart is a grandmaster of the genre, winner of Romance Writers of America's prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, survivor of more than thirty-five years in the romance business, and still just keeps getting better.
Her first novel was Barrett's Hill, a gothic romance published by Ballantine in 1974 when Anne had just turned 25. Since then she's written more gothics, regencies, romantic suspense, romantic adventure, series romance, suspense, historical romance, paranormal and mainstream contemporary romance for publishers such as Doubleday, Harlequin, Silhouette, Avon, Zebra, St. Martins Press, Berkley, Dell, Pocket Books and Fawcett.
She’s won numerous awards, appeared on most bestseller lists, and speaks all over the country. Her general outrageousness has gotten her on Entertainment Tonight, as well as in Vogue, People, USA Today, Women’s Day and countless other national newspapers and magazines.
When she’s not traveling, she’s at home in Northern Vermont with her luscious husband of thirty-six years, an empty nest, three cats, four sewing machines, and one Springer Spaniel, and when she’s not working she’s watching movies, listening to rock and roll (preferably Japanese) and spending far too much time quilting.
I liked this series but I did have some issues with it. 1) Either we need to know there is another book or this one needs and epilogue - the ending was abrupt. 2) Maggie is written as brave and highly capable but it is not truly demonstrated.
Since books 2 and 3 included a storyline with 2 of Maggie's 3 sisters, I am going to stay hopeful that there is 1 more book with the 3rd. Perhaps then I will see how Maggie and Randall deal with their relationship and future.
Maggie Bennett is stunned to hear her mother is in a coma after her boyfriend tried to kill her. Maggie and her sister, Holly, are quickly on the trail of Timothy Flynn, vowing to bring him to justice. But, they don't find Flynn in London. They find Randall Carter, Maggie's former lover. Maggie believes Randall killed her husband two years earlier. Now is her chance to get even.
I'm really split on my rating for this book. I liked the chase all over the world in search of Timothy Flynn. It kept my interest and force Maggie and Randall to work together. I didn't like the romance portion of the story with the "big misunderstanding". When they finally talk and clear things up, Randall decides he has to walk away from Maggie "for her own good". I hate those kind of stories. So, I split my rating and went with 3 Stars.
I enjoyed this book but I was really kinda lost and had a sneaking suspicion that this book was part of a series - a series I hadn't read (that is bad). It is, BTW. I also had difficulty believing the change of heart that the two main characters went thru as the story progressed. Love? I guess maybe they did feel love but ... but in the end it was that this book just wasn't up to Ms. Stuart's normal level of tension and her "dangerous hero" wasn't as dangerous as she normally makes them.
This was pretty bad. It's not a good standalone novel. Maggie Bennett, the heroine, was intensely annoying and unlikable. Randall Carter, the hero, was too in love with her and not as cool and amazing and Stuart's usual heroes. I couldn't even finish it.
Number 3 of the series and I got tired of hearing her complain and not be honest with us readers and herself. Liked it okay, but it could have been much better...
This was an amazing end (maybe) to an incredible series by the legendary Anne Stuart. Tense drama, intense plot and complex characters. It was a very good read.
