Amber Kell

Amber Kell has made a career out of daydreaming. It has been a lifelong habit she practices diligently as shown by her complete lack of focus on anything not related to her fantasy world building.

When she told her husband what she wanted to do with her life he told her to go have fun.

During those seconds she isn't writing she remembers she has children who humor her with games of 'what if' and let her drag them to foreign lands to gather inspiration. Her youngest confided in her that he wants to write because he longs for a website and an author name—two things apparently necessary to be a proper writer.

Despite her husband's insistence she doesn't drink enough to be a true literary genius she continues to spin stories of people falling happily in love and staying that way.

She is thwarted during the day by a traffic jam of cats on the stairway and a puppy who insists on walks, but she bravely perseveres..

She also writes under the name Mikela Q. Chase

Calvin is a young carpenter who is working for Anthony, the architecture who is building a paranormal posh hotel. Anthony's consultant for all it's vampire is Alesandro, a fashionable and very handsome vampire who since the first moment is attracted by Calvin. But Calvin has two reasons to avoid Alesandro's attention one he doesn't see what a gorgeous vampire like Alesandro could see in a simple man like Calvin, and two, he has an hidden plan to kidnap Anthony. Calvin's sister was taken in captivity by a stranger and the price for her freedom is Anthony. In the other two books in the series. Courting Calvin is a little less sexy and a bit more simple.

RE-READ NEW VERSION 28/11/11

Opinion on new version:
I think the previous release gets better revision this time around. Definitely NO MISTAKE of writing Odin as Anthony's grandfather (like it is in old release) when it is clear that it is Zeus, as mentioned in book 2.

As the story goes I like it more than book 1 and 2. First, because there is introduction of a threat for Moon Pack, in terms of mutant werekins. We have Calvin, a human carpenter that Anthony hires for his para-beings hotel, facing a dilemma since his sister is kidnapped and to save her, he must bring Anthony to the kidnappers. So apart from the usual quick/instant mating, we have threat looming in the background.

Then, there is Alesandro (from book #1), a vampire who has instant attraction to Calvin. It's nice to have another paranormal non-shifter characters into the series. AAAND, the joy of reading about Anthony, who is simply the best character :p. Love how he handles Silver, his Alpha mate.

I totally enjoyed this third installment in the series and I'm glad that I've continued reading them. Calvin and Alesandro were pretty awesome as the human and master vampire. The author has now introduced a valid foe to be focused on, at least for another book, so it'll be interesting to discover where this leads.
Looking forward to the next book!

E voi, cosa state aspettando? Correte a leggere!

This one doesn't read well as a standalone, so best read at least book 1 before this one.
I liked that there was a semblance of a plot, but there was no relationship development. They saw each other, fucked and were in love. Even the drama of 'I'm not worthy' was condluded with just one present. If and how vampires mate was never explained. (Also, the defeat of the villain was way too simple.)
As a quick book snack I liked it okay, but even with the fated mates trope the romance wasn't fulfilling at all, 2.5 stars.

This one is boy!vampire meets with boy!human! (Well, they're more 'men' than 'boys' but eh. You get the point.) Anyway, Twilight alert!

Rest assured, though, Alessandro the Vampire is a much more charming and likable creature than Edward Cullen. I mean no offense - charming vampires are okay in my book, as long as they don't glitter! So Alessandro being the not-so-frightening sexy vampire lover to the guilt-ridden human carpernter fills me with glee.

Calvin, too, is a much more entertaining human than Bella Swan. His capacity for angst is just as big as Bella but somehow he doesn't make me want to shake him and shout at him to "grow up!" I find his predicament - his sister being kidnapped by mutant wolf creatures who threaten the peace of the paranatural communities - quite intriguing to read.

But the biggest draw for me from this third installment is the existence of these new mutant werewolves. I didn't see that coming because I thought this was going to be a lighthearted, happy-go-lucky romance series. Ever since the second book, where an enemy shows up to harm Ben, I got the feeling that there was evil lurking in the background... but now that we can see the form that evil takes shape in, the series becomes more entertaining.

At this point, I couldn't let go of the series even if I wanted to. It's not just that the fact that main pairing trumps the Edward/Bella pairing by a thousand megawatts of thunder strike, but I love good whimsical adventure. And this series continues to prove it has many of it, instead of just sappy-smiled and doe-eyed he's-my-mate-I'm-his-mate-let's-get-nekkid-now romance...

2015 Re-read:

Again an okay, albeit blindingly fast, tiny story. People sure do commit very fast to either love or advanced relationships. Still, I appreciate that there aren’t pages upon pages of sex (even if the romance is still sex-based) and that there’s actual plot happening.
I guess that’s the good part about accelerated storytelling: a lot might be left out of rushed, but at least it’s not boring. It does help that the characters come slightly more alive (even the vampires, hah) than in some of the short, sex-based paranormal series I have sampled. Add a very non-serious tone, mixed with the most awful pickup lines and self-mocking narrative, plus the fact that no one is infallible or remotely perfect.
All in all, this makes for a mixture of its own, both in the good and the bad.

The Anthony saga is already in full swing and at its amusing stage.

I found this book to be SO very annoying. Courting Calvin? More like Sexually Molesting Calvin

I mean, I understand that the magic of this type of books are the insta-love, the undeniable attraction and, of course, overbearing partners (usually sold as "protective") but I just can't understand how the characters are okay with being literally sexually assaulted by complete strangers... Not only that, but that the situation it's happening on the first pages of the book.

I consider that the type of relationship and drama behind the plot NEED and beg for more than 41 pages of developing. I couldn't read more than 3 pages without needing to stop and analize why the characters were acting like that, I needed more depth to sympathize. And well, it's very hard to feel anxious about Calvin's situation when he goes from crying over his sister's kidnapping to fuck with Alessandro within minutes.

Calvin was the most "normal" but Alessandro was very very very overbearing. The guy was gridding Calvin after just meeting him, fucking him after just 30 minutes of "knowing" each other. CRAZY, even for a book like this. I was cringing very hard when he was calling Calvin "mine" the very first day of knowing each other's NAMES. I can't hahaha.

Oh yeah, and the book ends without the second main problem (Calvin avoiding him because he's feeling inferior) being actually resolved, we are left with a hint of a HEA... Great!

Maybe I'm not vibing with it because it has a lot of things that aren't "my thing" anymore.

This was so much fun. Calvin and Alesandro were so adorable together, although, Calvin had to be wooed a bit before he felt fully accepted by Alesandro. I really enjoyed the aspect of having mutant shifters as the threat in this story. I found it to be quite unique versus the cliché of human hunters or crazy scientists which are the usual threat in most of the shifter books I read. Cute and very steamy read.

getting better

3.75 stars

This series is getting better with each book.
Yes I’d like them to be longer and a little bit more involved but at least we are starting to have a storyline to go with the mating. There is also a series arc storyline that looks like it will keep my interest.
The characters are all pretty likeable to me. I liked Calvin in this one, and the pairing with the vampire Alesandro is great.
Looking forward to seeing where this series leads

¡AMOR Y SECUESTRO!

Calvin gets more wood than he expected.

How much wood can a woodworker work if a woodworker could grow wood? As much as his vampire lover wood want to play with?

This is a love story with humans, vampires, werewolves, parents, grandparents, sisters, lovers, bosses, guards, gods, paranormals, mutants, architects, consultants, construction workers, trees, and flowers. Watch out for the chaos and lube.

Calvin is worried. He is being blackmailed to save his sister's life. Alesandro seduces Calvin and then finds out what is bothering Calvin. Alesandro along with Anthony and the others help save Calvin's sister. When Calvin pulls away in guilt, Alesandro woos him until Calvin accepts being his. Anthony tells Calvin that he doesn't blame him and still wants him to work for him.

Wow, this one left entirely too much on the editing room floor. I barely understand Calvin and Alessandro's relationship let alone their personalities. Maybe I'm missing the point. Maybe these are all just supposed to introduce a couple and then let them develop over the rest of the series as part of the ensemble. We'll see...

I wish the books in this series has been longer because the ideas are great but not developed. If this series was about the relationship of Anthony and Silver in the background the pack members beginning to find his mate it's would be much better but even this can't be put in 50 pages.
Despite this... For 50 pages is a nice little story. It would be very nice this series being revised, expanded and published again because has some good ideas here.

Amber Kell continues in her paranormal series this time exploring another classical hero of the genre, the vampire lover.

Calvin is a young carpenter who is working for Anthony, the architecture who is building a paranormal posh hotel. Anthony's consultant for all it's vampire is Alesandro, a fashionable and very handsome vampire, who since the first moment is attracted by Calvin. But Calvin has two reasons to avoid Alesandro's attention, one he doesn't see what a gorgeous vampire like Alesandro could see in a simple man like Calvin, and two, he has an hidden plan to kidnap Anthony. Calvin's sister was taken in captivity by a stranger and the price for her freedom is Anthony.

In comparison to the other two books in the series, Courting Calvin is a little less sexy and a bit more simple. I think it's almost a passing book, a little step more in the series; Calvin and Alesandro are side characters in the series, friends of friends, and so it's their story, almost a side story in the main series.

As always I think it has potential, but in this case the potential is more linked to the whole series than in this single story that nevertheless it's necessary you read if you want to follow the series. And finally I have a little doubt: in book two the author says that Anthony's grandfather is Zeus; in this book Anthony's grandfather is Odin... they are two different grandfathers, one by his mother side and one by his father side, or the author gets a bit confused? Probably I have to read the following books in the series to have an answer.

This isn't going to much of a review.

A good 3.5-star story that begins the progression of what looks to be a series story arc.

I liked that Alessandro wasn't uber-cocky given his long life and experience. I miss that we don't know what is involved the the conversion process.

Scarey moment toward the end. And Calvin has a SBS (Stupid Boy Syndrome) moment at the end.

Nice quick read. If I'm not careful, I'll rip through this series in no time! :-)

P.S. I love the third edition covers way better than the first or second editions.

Worst of this series so far. Chock-full of typos and grammatical mistakes and sounding like a 14 year old on crack wrote most of the conversation.

Also, Anthony's grandfather is Zeus according to the previous story. Why a Greek demigod would appear and claim Odin (a Norse god) as his father and Anthony's grandfather is beyond me. It's probably the biggest editorial mistake I've ever seen so far.
