Teton Romance #2

Teton Splendor

Rate this book
Naive and spoiled, Sophia Yancey believes she is the only daughter of a wealthy Boston businessman. She’s always struggled to fit in among the city’s elite due to her dark hair and bronze skin. When a rugged mountain man from the faraway Teton Mountains arrives to reveal her true identity, Sophia is in denial.

Joseph Walker made a promise to a dying friend: travel east to find the old Indian chief's granddaughter and bring her back to her people. Unsure whether the girl is even alive, Joseph arrives on the doorstep of Byron Yancey, his only clue to her whereabouts. He expects to find Little Raven, a girl of Indian heritage. Instead, he meets stunning socialite, Sophia Yancey, and realizes that the journey home to the Tetons will challenge him in ways the wilderness never could.

Away from the confines of polite society, Sophia must rely on Joseph as they travel a long road of danger and discovery, wary of a killer seeking revenge. As love ignites between them among the grandeur of the Tetons, will Joseph be able to keep her safe, or did he make a grave mistake in removing her from the only life she’s ever known?

I never thought I'd be a writer, much less publish a book some day. I always wanted to be a veterinarian. I guess life just had other plans for me. When my husband and I decided to start a family, vet school pretty much went out the window. I used to work with a vet who had three children while going through vet school. To this day, she is my hero.

I live with my husband and two teenage sons in southern California. I have a Welsh pony and a miniature horse (down-sized from a barn of six horses). A crazy Labrador retriever who is a food vacuum, three cats, two parakeets, four bearded dragons (my compromise with my sons when they wanted a snake), and a small flock of chickens complete our menagerie of critters. I can’t imagine my life without my animals. My dream is to live in Montana some day.

Four years ago, I began writing a story that, for whatever reason, was stuck in my head for almost a year. I have been an avid romance reader for a long time, and the idea took hold to - why not? - write my own! What a simple idea, right?
It has been a long and difficult journey from my first sentence to a completed, and hopefully polished, manuscript. Today, I have a completed series of 5 books and a novella in what I called The Yellowstone Romance Series, two books in my new Second Chances Time Travel Romance Series, and I am currently working on the final book in a trilogy set in the Grand Tetons.

This book is one of my favorites. Sophie was brought up in Boston's high society, but never did fit in because of her dark Indian colored skin she got from her mother. Joseph was asked by her Native grandfather to go and get Sophie (Raven) and bring her out to him to meet before he died. Sophie is a brave strong willed woman and thought she would like to see how her mothers people lived and that she might actually belong somewhere which she didn't feel like there in Boston.
The adventure and surprises with twist and turns on the journey out to the great Teton Mountains will keep you turning the pages and growing to love the high spirit of Raven ( Sophie). The attraction between her and Joseph was felt from the beginning and you can feel it grow with each day and event that happens in this exciting story. The writer has the reader so involved in this book that you never wanted it to end. You feel like you are living the experiences with the characters. I can't wait to see future books and to find out if Sophie climbed those high peaked mountains she said she would in the beautiful Teton Mountains. Great read!

Once again, Peggy Henderson has created an absolutely captivating story. She draws the reader immediately into the story and keeps you wanting to read (even past the ending)! I loved the relationship between Joseph and Sophie. It grew with every page and you could practically feel the emotion.

One of Ms. Henderson's greatest strengths as an author is her ability to paint the images in your mind of the beautiful lands she clearly loves. Teton Splendor is no exception. Never having seen this area, I had no problem imagining the land Joseph loves and Sophie comes to adore.

This book was an excellent follow up to the first book in the series, Teton Sunrise, but is has the ability to be read as a standalone as well which is becoming more and more rare these days! I can't wait for her next book in the Trilogy!

Trenton splendor

Another brilliantly written story that I couldn't put down two people from two totally different ways of life coming together. Sophie knows she is different in Boston society her skin was darker and she was only tolerated because of her father being a rich business man ( Mr Yancy ), Joseph turns up wanting to take her to her grandfather, it's a long journey and lots happen on the way including falling in love and she finds the truth out about herself and her real parents who were murdered when she was very young. The story brings them both back to the Teton mountains and her indian grandfather who had for so long wanted to meet her. A must read a truly fabulous story of love, romance, family, and finally vengeance. I can't wait to read the next book in this series it's so exciting.

I enjoyed the audio version of this trilogy!

These three books were incredible! They're descriptions of the rugged terrain, the native Americans, the cities of Boston and St. Louis, and the steamboat trip were spot on! The growing love of the different couples and trials they endured are the kind of stories that lead to legends! There were a few mild sex scenes, but even in the audio version, they're easy to skip if you feel the need! The narrator did a beautiful job portraying the Native Americans, the French trappers, the children, the city folk and the Mountain Men! A difficult task in my opinion! I was extremely impressed and completely absorbed into this series! I'm so glad they were combined into one audiobook!!

Teton Splendor (Teton #2)
By: Peggy Henderson
5/5 stars

Joseph Walker, the eldest son of Alex & Evelyn, is all grown up and at the request of a well-respected Bannock Indian chief, Two Bears, Joseph sets off to Boston to find the chief’s granddaughter. Raven is the daughter of French trapper, Laurent & Whispering Waters. But when her parents were murdered, her father entrusted her life to the mountain greenhorn, Byron Yancy with the explicit instructions to take their daughter, leave and protect her from the evil Oliver Sabin.

Raven was raised as Byron Yancy’s only child, Sophia, in the Boston society where he grew up. Byron took over his family textile business and grew even more wealth. He never married or had any more children, leaving Sophia as his only heir. Sophia always felt out of place in Boston society, where she was looked down upon because of her mixed heritage, but was just barely accepted because of her father’s money & connections. However, she was never told about her biological parents, therefore she knows nothing about that side of her family.

Joseph is determined to take Raven to meet her grandfather before he dies, but he expects to meet a little Indian girl, not a stunning socialite who was raised as a privileged & pampered white woman. He still wants to take her, but there will be vast differences in his ability to travel with her than when he was alone. He will not only have to provide and ensure her survival, he’ll have to protect her from any evil forces out there.

Of course, with so much time being spent together on the trail, they will have to fight their attraction. Sophia will have a choice to make where she wants to live. Either in the wilderness with Joseph & his family and her Indian family, where she doesn’t totally know how to live or Boston society with the only father she has ever known, who gave her everything, but where she was never accepted. Will love be enough for her and Joseph?

I was a little bummed at the end, because I felt like I needed more closure or an epilogue that showed Joseph & Sophia in the future. But the epilogue sets up the next book, which is Joseph’s brother, Lucas’s book.

I gravitated to this book because I was feeling a little stressed with modern living---you know the kind with incessant traffic, fast-paced work schedule etc. Plainly, I needed a mental break and wanted to experience some adventure and romance from a time past. Teton Splendor was perfect for my mood. The love development between Joseph Walker and Sophia Yancey is very sweet, innocent and sensual. There is one love scene in this book and it's definitely lovely....I do wish there were more though. But, overall a very nice book that is well-written with a plot riddled with the suspense of danger coming from Sophia's parents' killer and the couple's ever-moving journey in the wilderness on the mission to get Sophia to meet her grandfather who is a Native American chief over his tribe. The narrator, Steve Marvel was excellent. His voice is perfection with a nice deep voice for the males and he also does a good job for the women. Overall, very good tame audiobook.

WOW! This book was truly GREAT!! So glad I had the entire Trilogy! One of those times that I didn't want the books to end!
I love historical romance -- particularily those set in the western United States! Being set in the Teton's of Wyoming, this Trilogy caught my eye! This story is set in a time and place that I would have loved to have been a part of! Book two is set just after the time of fur traders, mountain men, and the famous mountain men rendezvous! Loved bringing in the "city" (Boston -- love the choice!) with the "spoiled little rich girl" and bringing her back to her heritage in the Wyoming wild!
While I'm not against a well written love scene, I'd much prefer an awesome romance, and this one didn't disappoint! Couldn't wait to read book 3 -- although I didn't want to read it because I didn't want it all to end!

I really enjoyed reading Teton Sunrise, the story of Joseph Walker's parents, but Teton Splendor topped it in my opinion. As always Peggy Henderson combines wonderful description of an area of her country that she obviously loves very much with subtle character development and historical facts. The story of Joseph and Sophia's journey in terms of their travel across the country, as well as their own personal development and the growing love between them, was beautiful to read. And to add to all that there was the intrigue of whether a killer from Sophia's past might strike. All in all a fantastic story...and I think that I'm a bit in love with Joseph ;)

I can't recommend Peggy Henderson's books highly enough and am eagerly looking forward to the publication of Teton Sunset.

The year is 1853 and Chief Two Bears of the Bannock tribe has charged Joseph Walker, trapper and mountain man, to travel to Boston and bring his granddaughter back to the Wyoming frontier, so she can be reunited with her grandfather before his health fails him completely. Little Raven, or Sophia Yancy as she is now known, was taken twenty years ago at the age of two by Byron Yancy, at the urging of her dying father who was mortally wounded and his Bannock wife killed by a vengeful enemy threatening to kill the baby girl also. Little does Joseph realize that by honoring his old friend's request, he is fulfilling his own destiny. This captivating story has a timeless appeal and is the 2nd book in Ms. Henderson's sensational Teton Romance Trilogy.

Loved Sophia Yancey (Little Raven) and Joseph Walker's story which begins in 1853. Humorous at times and sad at other times.

Another wonderful love story about how one goes from growing up in the city to learning to live in the wilderness.

Includes briefly some of the previous characters from the Yellowstone stories.

Thank you again Ms. Henderson for another wonderful book.

Very good

The first book was free, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy the second one. I did and wasn't disappointed. I just bought the third one, and anticipate it being just as good.

The series continues to be a great one and so entertaining. Joseph learned to court a woman from his father. So many miscommunications and non-communications lead to a very entertaining courtship with lots of twists and turns to make a very entertaining story.

Well done!

I am just starting book 3 in this series and I am certain I will enjoy it as much as the first two. Excellent research into Wyoming history and the Native American tribes that inhabited the mountain areas during that time period.
