Deadwood #3.5

Boot Points

Rate this book
It’s not really about the boots … or is it?

BOOT POINTS is a set of short tales about Violet Parker’s purple boots. It is set in the story time between the third and fourth books in the Deadwood Mystery series. Each tale not only explains more of Violet’s history, but also shows the role each character plays in Violet’s life.

In addition to this short story, there is a deleted scene from Nearly Departed in Deadwood, the first book in the Deadwood Mystery Series. Also, there are three short stories called "Dancing with Dialogue," "Rainstorms," and "Metro Madness" pulled from Ann's short story vault.

I'm a big fan of Ann Charles' two series, the Deadwood series and the Jackrabbit Junction series, so I am always happy when she gives us a taste of her worlds between major full length releases. Boot Points is a short story from the Deadwood Series, somewhere between #3 and #4. Violet's Deadwood SD is a fun mixture of mystery, romance and the paranormal written with Ann's great sense of humor. Violet Parker is the single mother of twins, Layne and Addie, and has had her share of bad luck. Her sister, "the daughter of Satan" and her cheating ex, father of her twins, being just a part. Now that she has settled in Deadwood she is being plagued by trouble of the supernatural variety. Boot Points explained the importance of Violet's purple boots in her life and the loyal back-up of quirky characters she has acquired. Just about all back-up makes an appearance, not least "Doc" Nyce, Violet's current (and maybe forever)love interest.

There are also three short stories,"Dancing with Dialogue","Rainstorms" and "Metro Madness"; also a deleted scene from Nearly Departed in Deadwood.

4 Stars... This is a fun short in the Deadwood Series... Lovers of this series know that Violet's purple boots hold great meaning, especially for Doc.... When they go missing, Violet is understandably upset, but with Doc's help hopefully this mystery will be solved and quick... As the search continues, Violet informs Doc of the history of her boots and the important role they have played in her life... In addition, there are some small moments in which the author provides some clues to her readers as to Violet's abilities and true persona... A quick, effective, and entertaining read in this fun series:)

This was a short quick read about Violet Parker and her purple boots. Violet and Doc are looking for her boots that her kids have hidden around the house. While looking for them she tells Doc the story of how she got them. This book also had a few other short stories in it. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.

The minute this showed up on my Kindle, I was diving in and devouring it. Ann Charles is one of my favorite writers. She is funny and witty and you never know what is going to happen in her tales.

Getting to know a bit more about Violet's favorite purple boots was enlightening and I am pretty sure I noticed another clue drop in what I believe is an ongoing thread throughout the series. I can't wait for further books to see if I am right.

I loved the short "Rainstorms", it took me a minute but when I got it it was seriously funny and all too accurate.

I love the short stories by Ann Charles. (B)MootPoints was a truly a fun read. I love Doc and the craziness that is Violet (Spooky) Parker. She has more willpower than I think I could where Doc is concerned. Crazy Woman!
I really enjoy getting the behind the scenes events in the Deadwood Series that I am addicted to.

Love this series. I'm so glad I found these books. Not sure why this book is numbered 3.5 as it should be read before Dead Case in Deadwood book 3

Short story set between Book 3 and 4 of the Deadwood series.

BOOT POINTS first story is about Violet's purple boots. (I would give it 3.0 stars)

The next short story is a deleted scene from Nearly Departed in Deadwood, the first book in the Deadwood Mystery Series. (Another 3.0 stars)

Ann Charles also includes three unrelated short stories:

"Dancing with Dialogue," (This was very interesting, Ann's assignment was to write a short story using only dialogue, without names or any identifying character "tags." She did an excellent job. I completely understood who was speaking, and whether they were male or female. 5.0 Stars)

"Rainstorms" the next short was about raining cats and dogs. (Cute....3.0 Stars)

Last short: "Metro Madness" pulled from Ann's short story vault. (This was laugh out loud funny...5.0 Stars)

Ann does it again. Violet is in search for something that has disappeared. I am sure that we all have been there and done that.

this is a very short story featuring Violet and Doc - it is a quick and fun read. I am so hooked on this series of books setting in Deadwood SD.

There are 4 books in this series and they all are fun to read and leaves me wanting more.

I am looking forward to more stories about this crazy fun set of characters

Having read the previously published works in the Deadwood series by Ann Charles, I knew I had to have this one too!

Boot Points offers a background look into Violet's past, particularly in regards to her sister! It helps to fill in a few blanks, and make the story more cohesive overall.

I can't get enough Ann Charles! Her characters, especially Violet, are quirky and fun. You never know what will come out of someone's mouth next.

This is a great short story by Ann Charles that goes along with The Deadwood Humorous Mystery series. There are also several other entertaining short stories in this book too. If you are a fan of the Deadwood series definitely get this one because a lot is explained about how and where Violet got her famous purple boots and also her relationship with her sister Susan is explained. If you aren't a fan of the series...I definitely recommend it for a fun read!

I really enjoyed the short Violet Parker story. It was a well written back story about Violet's purple boots. I also enjoyed the pictures and the deleted scene from Nearly Departed in Deadwood. I didn't care much for the rest of the shorts which accounts for the 3 stars.

I love the story behind Violet's boots! Throwing Doc into the story made it awesome as they are made for each other. I got a chuckle out of the others as you can see the beginnings of Violet's stories in them.
