Possess Me Slowly

Megan Riley has always lived her life right—right boyfriend, right college, right career…right up until she discovers that her boyfriend is engaged to another woman and “debriefing” her boss was an expected part of her job description. Heartbroken and desperate to start fresh, Megan takes a job as a night manager at a swanky hotel in New York City. But when a wealthy VIP guest checks in, expecting more than a simple turn-down service, Megan has to decide between doing what’s right or finding out just how right something so wrong can feel.

Marriage is something hotel-mogul and confirmed bachelor, Preston Strauss, refuses to entertain, until he discovers that he needs a wife in order to maintain controlling interest of his family’s hotel empire. With his sheets still warm from a wild night with the sweet but incredibly sexy Megan, Preston decided marriage wouldn’t be so bad. Not if done right. So he offers Megan five-million dollars for three years of marriage—and three years of sharing his bed. But when their faux-engagement turns real, Megan’s past comes back to haunt them and it might just destroy any chance they had at a real future.

This book contains adult content and sexual scenes. Meant for readers 17+. (Adult Contemporary Women's - New Adult Fiction)

While covering for a barman at the hotel she's a manager at, Megan Riley meets Preston. She's immediately attracted to him and vice versa. Preston persuades her into going up to his hotel suite and spending the night with him.

Thing is this is Megan's first one night stand, so she's out of her element and so the next morning she leaves Preston asleep in bed and does the walk of shame home, she's looking forward to a day off from work.

Alas, she gets a phone call from the hotel saying she must come in immediately!!! The hotel owner must speak to her!!! My, my whatever could it be??? Did the owner find out she slept with one of the patron's???

Oh the mystery! Oh the intrigue!

She walks into the hotel owners office, and what do you know!!!! It's freakin' Preston!!! He wants to know why she left him???

He proposes!!! You see his father is retiring and he has 3% shares in the hotel, Preston has 49% and his brother has 48% His father doesn't want to give Preston his 3% because he isn't a family man! So Preston comes up with this ingenious idea, Megan should marry him to show his father that he can settle down.

And wait for it there's a contract!!! Preston has a secret in his past, something that scarred him. He goes nuts if anyone mentions it!!! He never wants to have children!

Poor Megan who is supporting her retired parents is under a lot of stress, which gives her an ear infection!!! She gets a course of antibiotics, meantime she and Preston are going at it like bunny rabbits!!! Soon after she starts feeling queasy! Oh whatever could it be????

Ummmmm not!!!

And guess what???? She's pregnant! Pregnant, I tell you!!! Who would have known!!!

Silly Preston, pushes her away because he thinks she's after his money!!! But she isn't, he realises his mistake and they live happily ever after!!!

I have been dying to read this book ever since I read BREAK ME SLOWLY and, hello, so worth the wait. I LOVED Adam and Kate’s story, but I have to say this book blew away every expectation I had. Preston is by far my new favorite NA hero. He is still dark and brooding, in the way that we love, but he has this charming swagger that makes him irresistibly HOTT! This book explodes with sexual tension, a smoking 10 from the first chapter on, and the sex scenes are, um, WOW! But Ryan also creates these characters who are so realistic and so complex you can’t help but devour this novel in one sitting. She balances the romance perfectly with the other story lines and the scenes with Megan and her parents brought me to tears.

Best New Adult I have read this year!!! And I can’t wait for the next book.

Oh, and I loved the short story on Adam and Kate.

I believe I've read the same story before, but nevertheless this book is better than the first. Overall, so predictable and cliche.

This book was interesting. This genre of romance was new to me. It was a bit exotic which wasn't bad but not something I'd re-read. I liked it but the girl in the book was snobby and honestly what girl agrees to be married to a guy for three years just so that she can get 5 million dollars. I mean it's a lot of money but still, it's stupid.

Gotta love the grovelling scenes Preston was delich and Megan was just perfect. Their chemistry was off the charts and the scenes were super and I stress on super .. hot. I didn't mind the scene at the end since I kinda of saw it coming knowing Preston and all. Megan boarded the forgiveness train a little too quickly but hey we got the HEA so no complaints there and the grovelling was damn good.

3.5 pretty good, but the latter part of the story was rushed and wrapped up in a bow in a somewhat unsatisfactory manner. Admittedly, I am a sucker for HEA, but this left me feeling like there were too many unresolved issues. Their relationship felt like it needed more development to reach the level of intimacy the author wanted between Preston and Megan.

Sorry.. Is this a joke? This book was a total rip off of some stupid book that I can't remember the name of... but I do remember she got pregnant, he flipped, and then there was something about a dog and the Mets. But, same story. Also it needed a lot of editing. It was missing whole words!

Megan moves to New York to get away from a bad break up with an ex and to help pay her father, who has dementia, medical bills.
Having to replace someone in the bar she meets Mr Suit and Tie, only when she finds out that he is a VIP does Megan start to worry, as she didn’t remember a Preston on the list. After helping him to his room, and seeing the heat in his eyes, when he tells her to break the rules, Megan agrees to give herself one night.
After being called to work with a meeting with Mr Strauss, Megan is surprised to find out that it was Preston, who wasn’t happy she just left and offered her a proposal, marriage and she would be paid at the end of three years, to ensure that when his father retires he will get the majority share in the hotel.
The longer Megan knows Preston the more she realises that he has demons in his past, when she finds out about them and talks to him, he brushes them aside. With Megan’s father deteriorating, Megan remembers why she agreed to the marriage.
Somewhere along the way, both Preston and Megan realise that they have developed feelings for each other and both deny it. When Preston’s father finds out about the contract, he assures Megan that the shares will still be a wedding present, unless the marriage doesn’t go ahead.
Megan needs to know if what they have is real and asks Preston, before she tells him her news, when he says yes, the reaction from the news wasn’t what she hoped for and she runs. At the same time, she receives a call about her father missing so Megan heads back home.
Megan and Preston needs to work through Megan’s and Preston’s past, the family jealously trying to tear them apart and Preston when realising what he has done has to try to win Megan back. Love this series and can’t wait to read the rest.

This was a bit better than the first book although there is a lot of drama. The sister in law is definitely a piece of work. I wish that Joya would give her female leads a bit more backbone, especially ones who have been dealt a few crappy hands. This one didn't have the abrupt ending of the first book and included some real-life family drama that touches the heart. Looking forward to book 3.

Everything that could go does and I’m just done with this day almost time to go home. A very attractive older man sits down at the bar and has the most amazing green eyes, suddenly I’m not as tired. He insists i carry his bag to his room, a briefcase, really? The next thing I know we are ripping each others clothes off. I slip out the next morning and go home.
Enjoy

5 out of 5 Licks

Since I did the first review on Ms. Joya Ryan’s Break Me Slowly, I felt it only right that I should give the second in the series a run for its money. I gotta say, I was not disappointed. This story picks up with Megan the best friend of Katelyn from the first book. She has moved to New York to make more money and get away from her cheating ex-boyfriend. Unexpectedly, she has her first one night stand with a shaggy gorgeous fella named Preston. Little does she know, this one night stand is her boss and he wants so much more than one night with her. He proposes marriage as a business relationship and to fulfill mutual needs…he needs a wife, she needs money. Simple right? Wrong!

I was swept away with this tale. The chemistry between Megan and Preston was ridiculous. It was palpable and made my heart thump, my blood thrum and my body tingle…as did the hot sex scenes. Damn, that man knows how to please a woman in the sack. If only he could get it right emotionally the entire world’s problems would be solved. I’m talking world peace would occur. Hunger would end. Seriously, he needs to get his shit together. Does he? You’ll have to read to find out all the sides of Mr. Preston Strauss. There are also some fabulous surprised I hadn’t expected.

Some of my favorite bits form the novel:

His hot mouth closed around the soft spot of my inner thigh and he sucked hard. “Christ, you’re f***ing mouth-watering,” he growled against my skin.

I was in the twilight zone, and not the kind with the hot tween vampires. No, I’m talking full-blown crazy town.

Nothing was easy, and the rainbows I had been thinking would somehow shoot out of the world’s a** and glitter over my life were long gone.

What was so surprising from this novel was the believability. The concept sounds ludicrous but somehow Ms. Ryan makes it work. A cold business arrangement turns blistering hot. A one night stand ends up being so much more. Megan is a character that you love to love. She’s strong, sweet, smart, sexy, but lacks sensibility. All the best “S’s!” She’s also vulnerable because of things that happened in the past that leaves her between a rock and a hard place. All puns intended here. Preston is a complete dichotomy and can also be sounded out as “dick-to-me”. He’s everything you never knew you wanted in a man. Give him a shot…I dare you!

Overall, I’m not sure if I liked this one better than the first because they were so different and equally beautiful. That’s saying something. I’m so looking forward to the release of “Capture Me Slowly” in September the final book in the series. I’ll definitely be “one-clicking” that novel the moment it’s available.

I must say that this installment was better written. The time frame wasn't much better, but the premise behind the story gave a different feel as it all started out on a contractual basis.

It was nice to see and keep in touch with the characters from book 1, even if Brian, Grace and Tim were still physically MIA. We still were up to speed about their affairs.

I finally got a chance to understand Meg and even though she is more confident, assured and out spoken than Kate, I never knew the vulnerabilities that was in this girl's life. She seemed all put together, so the mention of the scheme, lies and secrets were a surprised, even the illness of her father. It seems all these characters are messed up in one way or a next, and Emma's turn is up next.

I like Preston. Once again we didn't get to spend much time with the mogul, but I liked the times we did, even when he was going crazy over having a bathe. I am surprised the room even had one.
He was charming, funny, caring and everything you could ask for in a husband, make believe or not.

While the story line was obvious and the secrets few but not as eventful a reveal, there was still a level of comfort with this story that you just kept on reading and felt a sense of understanding even if you are sure what's going to happen next.

There however were some variables that kept you guessing, as it relates to what trouble Emma has got herself into, and the mood we would get from Emma's dad. Once again, skimming the surface was a theme of this series. Depth was sporadically overlooked.

I am glad that the whole gang, from Adam to Emma were incorporated into this story. They all blended so well and made a predictable but easy transition into friends.

Darlene and Charlie seem necessary but inconsequential to the story and I wonder if their presence didn't bother Meg because of the nature of her union or the confidence she seems to ooze from every pore. Whatever it was, it was golden and admirable. I love a woman who is certain in her man and her relationship, ain't nothing hotter!

I loved the bonus scene for Adam and Kate, even if I expected more from this situation seeing as how it took the span of two books to occur, but once again an issue was lightlty highlighted and for the first time, a question was used to transition into the next story.

Overall though , this was a short and sweet read. It even had a few elements and layers that were handled well and I loved the chemistry and flirtation between Preston and Meg. Looking out for book 3 with Emma and Rhys. Can't wait!!

Well Book 2 of the series Shattered by Joya Ryan and it did not disappoint. I didn't think I could enjoy reading a book more than book 1, Break Me Slowly but I am happy to report I was wrong. I loved the romance story of Megan and Preston.

The heroine of our story, Megan Riley, has always lived her life on the straight and narrow —the right boyfriend, the right college, the right career… until she discovers that her boyfriend is engaged to another woman and her career takes a disgusting turn when her boss expected part of her job description to give him some hands on job performance service. For once the good girl was going to have one night to be bad, live out her wild fancies with a drop dead, handsome stranger in a one night no holds bar one night stand. To Preston Strauss marriage is something the hotel-mogul and confirmed bachelor, refuses to entertain, until he discovers that he needs a wife in order to maintain controlling interest of his family’s hotel empire. With his sheets still warm from a wild night with the sweet but incredibly sexy Megan, Preston decided marriage wouldn’t be so bad. Just to bad for our girl Megan that the stranger is the owner of the swanky hotel she works at.....

The journey that Megan and Preston take to find their happy ever after is everything I expect in a well written romance. I can not wait to read book 3, Capture Me Slowly, Emma and Rhys love story. I would rate the sensual level a 9 and highly recommend this for a great romance read.

Megan Riley, a strong character that I was able to relate to. Moving to the New York to start over and support for parents is hard to do. Megan is looking for a stable job that will pay the bills and while working at the international Strauss Hotel is the way for her. Being the good manager that she is, one an employee calls and says he’s going to be late she steps in and takes care of business. While tendering bar, she meets a striking man having a drink that catches her eye. Always being the good girl, she knows that she shouldn’t mess with clients of the hotel but the one time she throws caution to the wind, she gives in to the sexy, alpha male that commands her body for the night.

Little did she know, the sexy one night stand is no other than John Preston Strauss, owner of the hotel. He extends an offer that she can’t resist and agrees to a marriage of three years to help him secure the upper hand when his father retires from the company. During this hot affair, she starts to care for Preston but he doesn’t want a relationship just a business deal. Preston is all man and hard to resist but when he pushes her away with his harsh words and attitude she leaves. Preston is fighting the feelings that he thought he would never have for another woman and realizes that he cares for her and damm the contract. He tracks her down to find her at the bed side of her father that has advanced dementia. There is professes he love and begs for her forgiveness.

I thought the ending was a bit rushed and parts of the book were too predictable. Preston deserved to grovel a bit more from all that he put Megan thru but overall the book was good.

I was so glad to get Megan's story because in the first book in the series hers wasn't a good one, or didn't end happily. Mr. Preston can sure be persuasive when he wants to be, "you're not on the clock," he whispered and traced a finger along my hairline from my temple to my ear. "Right now, you're just a woman. I'm just a man. No rules. No expectations. Just pleasure and escape." Sweet mama the way he talks I want to jump his bones. Megan has a temper, especially when she think she's being insulted, "you know what," I stood up, "I'm an adult and proud of the person I am. I'm not the type of girl who makes a habit of having a one-night stand but last night I did, and that's all you were. If you want to try to make me feel bad or cheap about that, you're wasting your time. So either fire me or get over it." Go girl put that boy in his place! Preston is a man that cares for his woman, but he doesn't realize it until it's to late, but then he comes to his senses ladies, love a man who can admit he's wrong and he desires his woman very much, "I recognize that look," he growled and leaned in to nip my earlobe. "And while I'd love nothing more than to eff you right here on the counter, we have to get going." I liked this book but the first one still has my heart.

Just got done with reading Joya Ryan’s “Possess Me Slowly”, I absolutely loved every single minute of this book. I thought Adam from the first book was hot but damn it, Joya ups the ante with Preston this time around. There were a couple of times where I thought my heart was going to beat out of my chest and my temperature spiked. When I say this book had everything you would want it does, Megan & Preston’s relationship one that most people can related to. What happens when you fall in love without it being in the equation in the beginning? That was the question these two individuals had to answer. I loved the way how Joya intertwined the characters from the first book, Adam & Kate, story and leave us wanting more at the end. Another five star book guys, I recommend you go out & get it ASAP.
