This book was really exciting! Had a hard time putting it down, & I had read it before!
In this book, DJ Randall is having a hard time forgiving herself for doing stupid things. When Joe Crowder, DJ's gram's new husband, surprised her, she straightened up too fast & clipped Major's muzzle. DJ had bought Major from Joe when he & Major had retired from the police force. It had been 10 days since she had ridden Major, because of his injuries. She went for the ice boot. Major reacted when she put the ice in. Joe told her that the time Major had taken a bullet meant for him, it was worse! Afterwards she worked with Megs, the horse that Bridget had ridden in dressage competitions. When Bridget came out, DJ rode over to her. DJ was obeying the commands of her trainer, when a shout from someone drew her attention away. She broke her concentration & Megs faltered. Afterwards she thanked Bridget for allowing her to take lessons on Megs.
Later, DJ worked with Andrew who was really frightened of horses. She instructed him to tighten his helmet, which he did after receiving an encouraging glance from her. After their lesson, DJ had Andrew untack & brush Bandit, the pony.
On the way home, with Joe driving, the warmth from the heater felt good. DJ's friend, Amy, rode with them. DJ hoped that her mother would get home late so she could get her chores done. When DJ saw the lights in the windows, she knew she was in trouble!
