I admit that I may have gone into this book with too much hope. I tend to dislike series books because there are too many loose ends. However, i do believe that a book can be a good series and still have a few loose ends. But I also believe that SOME of the ends needs to be tied up at the end of each series. I really like the premise behind these books and, when the author is describing the world our characters live in, it is a very interesting picture. However, I think there are too many similes. Too much description without any "meat"...describing a beautiful scenery while comparing it to something equally beautiful does not give me appreciation for that scene. I think we need more concrete descriptions that do not pull my mind away from that moment. Although the story is good so far, I keep getting frustrated by how no one in the book seems to know what is going on...or when some characters/narrators KNOW what is going on (we can tell from their internal dialogue) but don't share with the reader. This is probably my biggest complaint about the series. Similar to someone who says something JUST to get you to ask more. I think you should just come out with it. If you are going to introduce a character (from a first person type of perspective), you have to also allow us into their brain. You can't feel like you really connect with a character if you can tell they are hiding something.
**SPOILER** Also, I will say that I got a little irritated by the scene in which Declan is chasing his sister and mother around and then it turns out the VAC machine is EATING them? WHAT??? That, to me, was more than just a bit strange. And then nothing. That is the end of that scene and we never come back to it in this book. I know this is Science Fiction, but we start out with a dystopian type genre, then basically zombies (reanimated corpses - although not flesh eaters so I hesitate to call them real zombies) and are now moving into sentient machines. It's a bit schizophrenic.
I think this still has a lot of potential and hope that the next book in the series can wrap up at least a few of the questions.

Thank you again to Brian Spangler for this copy of Blinded by Sight. This book goes further into the description of Declan's world and into the story behind the VAC machines. It not only continues Declan's story, but it goes more in depth into other character's lives. We learn more about Ms. Gilly and her Chosen, about Declan's father (Richard), and we meet a new character named Isla who resides within the machine. Declan is determined to rid the world of the fog and, once again, see the sun. We follow him on his journey to the machines to put an end to this nightmare once and for all.
The transition from Gray Skies is absolutely flawless. I loved the originality of the machines and finding out what makes them work. Every step of the journey so far has been intriguing. A must read after Gray Skies!
I thought I was confused before...I had no idea! This story just get more involved and suspenseful each chapter! Where is it all going? Love it and on to the final now!
