A fledgling actress. A foreign talent scout. Will he make or break her career?
A fast-paced erotic novella set amongst the city lights of Hollywood, featuring an arrogant talent scout, his personal assistant, a beautiful and talented young woman and some serious, seedy revenge.
AUDITION is the first book in the Southern Belles series by erotic romance author, Amanda Heartley.
Annabelle Gibbons is an independent and ambitious actress who left her home in Georgia to make it big in Hollywood. She's played plenty of small parts, but now she's been presented by her agent for a major role where she first meets the cocky and dismissive talent scout, Vicktor Rossen. Before her career can really take off, she needs to impress him.
Despite her excellent performance at the audition, Mr. Rossen seems dis-interested and unimpressed until she uncharacteristically loses her temper to grab his attention. It works, and in spite of her angry outburst, much to her surprise, she gets a callback to see him again. In the negotiations that follow, Annie has second thoughts about whether the part will be too big for her and perhaps Mr Rossen's expectations of her are a bit too much?
She strikes up a friendship with Vicktor Rossen's overtly gay personal assistant, Daveed. They see each other every week; he shows her a side of Hollywood she had never even dreamed of and when Vicktor Rossen crosses Annie, her friend Daveed is there to make sure she gets her revenge.
AUDITION is an engaging and occasionally erotic story about life for a struggling actress in Hollywood and the sordid underbelly of making it in the movie industry.

3.5 Stars Audition by Amanda Heartley features Annabelle, a small town girl hoping to make it into the ultra competitive world that is acting. At an audition that could possibly change her life forever, she loses it and let's the director have a piece of her mind. Once reality set in, she realized she might've ruined all her chances but in the process made a new friend. This book was a quick read with the promise of an entertaining storyline. Annabelle is spunky and motivated enough to risk it all. I look forward to reading the rest of it.
For some reason this book annoyed me. The writing wasn't bad and the storyline had promise but it just really bothered me. I was not fond of the characters.
There is this fine line between being a sexy arrogant alpha male and then some cocky selfish bastard. The male in this book was more the latter.
The author contacted me and suggested this book as it was free on Amazon. Well, I'll try anything once, especially if it's free. So I read it.
First of all, I'll tell you the parts I did like...I'm a southern girl so I loved to see the southern connection. I did like Annie, she appeared genuine but somewhat naively stupid. And I liked the language or more specifically the terms that were used. None of this throbbing flesh or pulsing mound, I hate the old school Harlequin Romance novels of your mother's era terminology. If you're gonna write smut, write it and be proud, don't hide behind antiquated words! The editing was pretty good, I only saw one small mistake. Not bad for today's standards.
Now on to what I did not like...The infamous casting director propositions her to get her a part and then a few weeks later she is able to suddenly believe he might have more interest in her? I found that part hard to believe and even harder to believe that she had sex with him in his office right away. Especially after his own assistant warned her. It just seemed too stupid to be believable.
The part about the spa and what goes on in the back room, I get that, but the part I didn't understand was why show us her interest if she isn't going to carry through with it? It's like drama for the sake of drama. It built up to nothing. Maybe this is a part of the character that will be followed through with in the next book, but at this point I wasn't intrigued enough to pick up the second book, so it's an open ended plot point. I hate those!
I also did not like the dialog, it seemed a bit forced or contrived for my tastes. And I've had gay friends, very flamboyant gay friends so I know their conversations can be quite out there, but it all felt forced in some way.
The book had a great start, but it seemed to fall flat towards the middle and never recovered. I'll be honest here, I only finished it because I told the author I would read it. Otherwise, I may have flounced it altogether.
I know there are several more in the series and a very small part wants to pick them up and read them, but the other larger part says no. I'm not sure which part will win out at this point.

This novella was ok. While I was reading it I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but in the end I did.
One of my issues with this was the use of the word "snatch". Might just be my issue but I hate that word. I can understand if a guy uses it, but I just can't see any woman referring to her lady bits as her snatch. It just put me off. Luckily, I only saw it a few times.
I spent most of this story either being pissed at Vic for being such a dick or being pissed at Annie for being so stupid.
Although there was some sex in this, I would not consider this erotic. The sex was off-putting because of the situation surrounding it.
This books redemption came in the form of the ending. It was great. I didn't expect that at all. My jaw dropped and I was laughing my ass off at the image I had conjured in my mind. And I have to admit it felt good. Payback is a bitch.
If you're looking for romance or a HEA, this isn't it. If you want something that will probably piss you off and then make you laugh, then here you go.
And I am tempted to read the next one in this series. If I do, I'll be crossing my fingers that I will not see the word snatch.
I loved this book! I have read the Oceans Apart and Fueled Obsession series and was thinking I might get something along the same line as those but it is completely different and I was ok with that. Annabelle Gibbons, Annie, is a small town girl from backwoods Georgia looking to make it big in Hollywood. Acting has always been a passion of hers but unfortunately Annie just can't catch a break. Annie is quickly reminded that she is no longer in the south and is a dealt a crappy hand but even though she didn't land her dream job, she's made a great friend out of it. When she's given a second opportunity to possibly land a big part, she quickly jumps on it and finds herself in a compromised position and someone she never wanted to be. Just when she thinks things in life couldn't get any worse, she receives a phone call that as her rethinking her life in L.A. If you have read Amanda's books, you know there is usually a lot of sex but this book is definitely different. Now don't get me wrong, there's a scene or 2, the language is that of a sailor and there is a bit of drama and heartbreak. If you're looking for a 400 page book, you won't find it here but if you are looking for an easy read with a plot and a twist or two, look no further. The ending had me laughing my rear off and eagerly waiting to get my hands on book #2 in this series!!
Annabelle Gibbons is a struggling actress who left her small town home in Georgia for the bright lights and big city of Hollywood. She realizes quickly what it takes to get ahead and it isn't just her talent they want from her. She does a lot of small roles and then suddenly gets a chance at a breakout role. Unfortunately for her Vicktor Rossen is in her way. He is a young , handsome, full of himself talent scout. He propositions her in more ways than one. Annie being full of piss and vinegar shoots down his advances and decides to ride it out on her talent. She makes a few bad decisions and poor choices and ends up in Vicktor's office with only her body for the final vote of the role. Vicktor of course is a rat and double crosses Annie. She decides that revenge on Vicktor would be sweet and maybe teach him a lesson to stop taking advantage of the woman at his mercy. Annie may have not gotten the part but Vicktor surely gets his just dessert. Annie ends up returning back to her home town for an emergency which puts her acting career on hold . This was a quick read and gives a quick introduction to Annie and her life which will continue in book 2 I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review. ~~Michele~~
I found the plot engaging from the start and felt like I was getting to know Annie, the main character, right away. I've never thought about it but I could empathize with what it's like to be a struggling actor or actress in a city like Los Angeles.
The character development was very good throughout the book and with the introduction of a secondary player in the first chapter, your interest in the story line is maintained well. The multiple erotic scenes are to me, beautifully graphic and paint the pictures in your mind perfectly.
There are some good pointers to what is to come and the ending chapter has some wonderful revenge thrown in for good measure. It's a bit of a cliffhanger which I don't mind as I know the author has the next two books in the series already written.
I can't wait to see what happens after Annie gets home in Betrayal which is in the Kindle Store now and with the sequel to that due out in July, I'm happy to give it the five stars it deserves as it seems I'll be entertained.
The story had a premise that I liked: plucky southern girl goes out to LA to become famous. Even though these weren't groundbreaking plot points, I thought that there would be a lot of room to make this an engaging story with characters that I loved. Of course, I was hoping for hot and sexy as well. Unfortunately, this story relies heavily on stereotypes. The movie producer has the stereotypical casting couch, and her gay best friend is made one-dimensional by being every gay stereotype. The main character is unclear about her motivations for sleeping with said slimy producer then acts shocked when he acts exactly like a a jerk would. The biggest challenge for me to believe [SPOILER ALERT] was that the main character's "revenge" was to ambush the sleazeball director in a BDSM dungeon in a compromising position with another man. I'm thinking, this is revenge? In LA? With a notorious director? I don't think this headline would make TMZ for a second. This is the first in a series, and I'm hoping the the next book is better.

i was given this given this book as a gift for an honest review.
this is a short, quick read and is a cliffhanger that is just part 1 of 4.
Annie dreams of making it big as an actress but every chance she gets she is turned down until Vicktor gives her an offer that is hard to refuse. When Annie thinks Vicktor likes her for her and has a steamy encounter with the handsome director she is quick to find out he just used her. Annie and her new friend set out to seek revenge against Vicktor. Upon gaining her revenge she receives bad news about her grandfather and must head back to the hometown that she so quickly ran from to begin with.
This series is a very short and quick series but you laugh, get mad, and do a little crying along with the story and people in it. This is Amanda's first series and although not the best of her series (in my opinion) it is still worth a quick steamy read if your looking for a quick readers romp. Especially when you get to the rest of the books.
This book is not erotica, it's not even a romance. There is very little sex and even less kink in it. And there's absolutely no relationship building of any kind. The plot revolves around revenge. And just because there's a room with chains where kinky things might happen, doesn't make this an erotic story!
I also found the plot ridiculous. That the actress could make the mistake of sleeping with an agent to get ahead is believable. But what wasn't believable was that she could plan this complicated plot of revenge in just a couple of pages without him being the least bit suspicious of her sudden changed behavior. Another thing that was completely unbelievable is that this struggling actress can afford all her clothes, getting her hair done regularly, live in LA, and everything else on her part-time waitressing salary.
There is nothing brutal, continually humiliating, or predictable for or from Annie in this book. The book is a short, fun romp, I read in one sitting. The interplay between Annie and Daveed is humorus. The plot is not predictable, as so many are in this genre. It read like the life of a fun, horny, young woman I would love to meet over coffee. The book is short, but there is a second available; I think I'll read that one, too! I HATE grammar nazis, but I do notice broken or missing words. I usually see at least one per 10 pages, even in books written by the "PROS" but found only one in the entire book. Throughly enjoyable, easy to recomend, and giving it five stars is easy! Kudos to Heartley for breaking the NORM!
Annabelle "Annie" Gibbons attends a casting call for movie part. Annie wants her big break but doesn't want to end up on the casting couch to get it either. Mr. Victor Rossin bluntly tells Annie she'd get the part just doing her turn on the casting couch. Annie feels like all her dreams are shattering at her feet. Annie befriends Daveed Mr. Rossin's assistant. Annie and Daveed have many outings as friends. Will Mr. Rossin help Annie with the part? Your answers await you in Audition.
Annie just wants to make her dreams come true is how I see her character. Rossin is a pig and disgrace as a male. I thought the story was creative and intriguing. The characters were surprising and interesting too. Look forward to more of this author's works in the future.
The story was ok. I did get into it after a while. Was a little drawn out but was good. It was a quick read. Annie moved to LA to be an actress. In the process she shows up and auditions for a director who is an ass and uses women. She storms out and runs in to his gay assistant and they become great friends. The director decides to meet her again and wants and exchange for the job and she slaps him and walks out. Later on she meets him in the elevator and he invites her to his office for coffee. They talk and she thinks he is nice and decides to sleep with. When all is said and done, she realizes she was used and mad and wants revenge. Story was good.
***I was provided and ARC in return for my honest review***
I just have to love Annie, she doesn't take crappy from anyone. when casting director Vic Resson assures her he could put in a good word for her with the other director; just so he can use her for sex. Annie goes all out on the revenge. Loved It.... Just goes to show, a good girl should never push her morals aside for attraction and her body's betrayel.
i had a good laugh with this book... and i love how it ends... Payback is a Bitch! And i was like, what? that's the end of it? i was hoping to turn more pages...
Overall this book was good. I downloaded it free from Amazon. It was fast paced and I liked the main character Annie. I would have liked a little more of a "steamy-ness" factor....but I enjoyed the ending. I would read the next book in this series.
this had potential ..but fell flat .. it could have been this amazing thing I think but was too rushed. the author can write a sex scene for sure...but some of the characters names are just too annoying to take serious
I'm not 100% how to rate this. So it's a 2-2.5 for now.
There are likely some spoilers ahead.
The writing was okay. Not great but not horrible. I don't really feel any sort of emotional connection between the characters at all. I'm hoping that improves in the next book.
In general- this reads like the author possibly started to write a book, but perhaps didn't know how to finish it. So she broke it up into the ever popular "serial" novellas. That's just how it read to me.
I am definitely torn about the "revenge" at the end. WTF??? ***SPOILER ALERT*** Getting revenge by restraining a man to a wall and then having another dude blow him- while he's protesting the whole time- well...that's rape my dears. And that's just not cool in ANY form. Yes, he guy was a douche. But you know what? HE NEVER FORCED HER TO HAVE SEX WITH HIM!! Soo...yeah. We will see how the next one plays out.
I enjoyed this book and the storyline. The lead female character was at times a little whiny and at others would make you laugh. The only problem I had was the secondary character Daveed was really overdone and fit every stereotypical comment ever made about gay people. Though he had funny moments and was loveable I just think the gay stereotype was overdone.
Good start to the series and I look forward to Annie's next adventure.
1.5 stars I wanted to like this. It was listed as an erotic romance and I have to say... it wasn't really erotic and there was no romance. I was glad that Victor's and Annie's first meeting ended the way it did. I'm a little confused why Annie reacted the way she did after their second meeting (technically 4 th time meeting?) I really really disliked the ending. It felt rushed. And Annie did things that really didn't fit with her character.
