DNA, the schematic for life, and so much more. For the long dead aliens, it’s a message media of treachery and treason through the centuries. But events centuries before her time has set fate into motion from which there is no escape. E. M. Lohr, a recycled husband, is a man of many layers (can you say onion, of the spicy variety). Officially retired from writing regulations for the federal government and work in general, he indulges even more in the world of reading and writing fiction. He lives in the gorgeous countryside of West Virginia and when he is not playing on the tractor, he is practicing cooking for his lovely bride.
Astronauts from earth find an alien beacon on Mars. After several years deciphering the information in it the ISA builds a ship and computer that will take them - they hope - to their planet. A crew of 12 is then hand picked for their various skills - pilots, astronomers, mechanical engineer, computer engineer, biologist/botanist, psychologist, medical doctor, anthropologist, cook and an ambassador to represent earth. Their special skills are needed as the mission is expected to take at least 2 years. At the last minute a 13th member is added. 17 year old Rosalita "Rosa" Martinez. No one is sure why she should be added to the crew. They only know her DNA matches the information they have from the beacon. Without her the message said not to bother coming.
I really enjoyed this book. Its not often I read a book this fast. I can't wait for the next one.
Thank you Wendy for the heads-up about the contest. I'm so glad I won.
This book was a fantastic read! There was always something from the first chapter to the last and I loved every part of it! It has been glued to my hands for days. I enjoyed the characters; a few of them sticking out and becoming my favorite and I loved the humor in it too! It was an easy read and there was never a dull moment. You will come to know Rosa, Natasha, Hiro, and several of the others very well (even Daemos). :) I highly recommend this. I truly believe anyone would enjoy this whether a sci-fi fan or not! I hope there's another one coming soon!
