October 17, 1966 was one of the darkest days in the history of the F.D.N.Y. On that day, twelve members of the New York City Fire Department were killed in the line of duty. The following account is one man’s personal experience on that tragic day: the mixed emotions that bombarded him, the final crushing realization that twelve of his brother firefighters had died, and that every man’s life is irrevocably tied to another’s.

Compelling reading.

Everyone has dates they remember, for various reasons, good and bad. This short story is the harrowing personal account of events, which started on the evening of October 17th 1966 in the New York Fire Department.

In this story, we follow the narrator through a routine evening at the department, which suddenly changes as a fire is reported. As it grows out of control, more engines are called to assist and we follow the horrific events of that fateful night.

This short book takes the reader through a rollercoaster of raw and honest emotions, as the narrator allows us a glimpse into life as a firefighter, and a world where comradeship is paramount, decisions must be obeyed and sometimes tragedies happen...

Everyone should read this story, is one I’ll never forget!

This short proved to be an emotional read, and one that will stay with me. The description shows a stark contrast between how a night for a fire crew was expected to go, then showing us how this can change suddenly and leave your life in the balance

A good read, very heart wrenching to think of such an event

This is a very short book about one firefighter's experience on October 17, 1966. There was a large fire that burned out of control and many firefighters lost their lives battling that fire. He survived that night and this is his story.

This should bring home to anyone just how much our emergency workers are risking each and every day. You just never know which day will turn out to be "the big one"
