Mason Sothard, captain of the Orono PD in Maine, has long aspired to building a SWAT team in the northern part of the state. To bring his dreams to fruition, he needs the help of a woman he left behind; a woman who was once his best friend, but who scared the life out of him when she wanted more than he could offer. Can he face his past as fearlessly as he confronts danger? Mase has one shot at getting things right, and if he blows it, he knows his failure will haunt him for the rest of his life. Everlee Jalcourt, or Ever as she’s known to her friends, has a broken life-compass. For as long as she can remember, it’s always pointed straight to law enforcement, but… After fourteen years on the PD in Chicago and a five-year member of her local SWAT team, she’s suddenly, and unfairly cut loose and set adrift. Not knowing what else to do, Ever agrees to stay with her recovering aunt in Orono, Maine. But is that the only reason Ever is moving east? If she’s honest, it doesn’t hurt that it happens to be the hometown of someone she once thought might play a huge part in her life. Now she has a decision to make. Will she hide until she discovers what her next career move should be, or should she put herself out there, contact her old friend, and hope he sees her differently this time?
Brand new series featuring some strong men and women who depend on each other to keep them all safe and take down some really bad people for the police. The members of Swat! Mason Sothard is the chief of a brand new swat team, looking to bring on new members. Everlee Jalcourt is a college friend of Masons, she also followed the path of protection. She was a police officer then she became a member of another swat team. Now she has joined his team.
This is a story of re-connecting with each other, facing the past and finally letting go. A story of stepping outside their protective bubble and taking a leap of faith. As always 10+stars from me to this amazing author! Mason (Police and Fire: Operation Alpha)
Mason Sothard is on the cusp of realizing a dream, firming and implementing a ten squad SWAT team that will cover the northern sparsely populated portion of Maine. The only thing better would be reconnecting with Everlee Jalcourt, the woman Mason 'friend zoned' fifteen years ago, something he's regretted ever since, is suddenly back not only in his town but in his life. Ever is back in Orono and determined to forge a relationship with Mason. She's never gotten over him. Leaving her Chicago job as a police lieutenant and SWAT team member under less than optimal circumstances grates on her butit's time for a career change. Mason may want to move forward with Ever but there's a big reason why he's tenuous, at best, in going all in. Until he bares his soul they can't be the couple they're meant to be.
A brand-new series from L J Vickery…and what a start. We meet with our 2 main characters – Mason Sothard is tasked with starting a new local SWAT team and creating a solid and trustworthy team. Everlee Jalcourt a college friend of Mason was a police officer who also became a SWAT team member in another area, but who left because of ‘team’ issues. This story is about how they solve the issues between them. I really loved the way this book came together. The friends they’d had a while back are also part of how they resolve some of their past but feature strongly in her change of career. I really enjoyed watching how the SWAT team began and how they dealt with the issues. Lots of action, romance and a little suspense make this a great new book and series. Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.
Downeast SWAT book 1 - Mason Having read LJ Vickery’s, Heroes in Hardhats, I was interested in reading this book of a new series. Happy to say I was delighted that the reasons I enjoyed the previous series will keep me coming back for more of this newly formed SWAT team in Maine. LJ Vickery makes the relationships interesting. Whether it be between family members, team members or romantic relationships. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Thanks to LJ Vickery for all the details given in setting up the new SWAT team, recruitment, procurement of technical equipment and safety gear etc.
Loved getting to know Mason & Ever. It took them 15 years to reconnect after problems that Mason had overwhelmed him. It is nice to read that men also have hang ups. Really enjoyed the way these two got over the hurdles that were in the way. I also loved getting to know not just the main characters but also the ones in the back ground, so much so, that I have downloaded the next two books available in this series. Many thanks.
Wow a great start to a new series. Great characters that pull you in from the start. I haven't been disappointed reading anything by thia author. She tells a story that make you believe you are right there. I can't wait to read more. Definitely would recommend reading this book. I was given an advanced reader copy and I voluntarily leave this review.
This was a pretty good story. These two have been dancing around each for years. Mason was starting his Swat Team and Everlee is trying to bounce back from what happened in Chicago. The teams are working well together especially on their first call, but later on in the story when Everlee is in trouble Mason really gets worried. HEA.
Loved this new series, Mason and Evers story. Long burn has nothing on the time gap in their story, but it was worth the wait. Will Evers get her man, who has his own issues, can they find a way read this and see. Recommended
