Seven Deadly Demons #3

The Demon Prince

Rate this book
When a demon gets a taste for his own subjects, only one woman will offer herself to stop him.

Gluttony has existed in the shadows for centuries. He's consumed everything possible. Food, wine, magical substances, even the sweet kisses of maidens. But when he realizes the one thing he's never consumed is a human itself, his kingdom spins into chaos.

Katherine lives in the shadows of her village. Injured as a child, she isn't a suitable match for marriage. So instead, she dedicates herself to having some purpose in the town. Stitching people up after Gluttony has his way with them makes her realize that she could be more of a solution than a problem.

So she makes the trek up to his castle and offers him a deal he cannot refuse. Her blood, unlimited, if he will leave the rest of her town alone.

Though he's never even considered such a deal, Gluttony finds himself obsessed with this new human pet. He cannot get her honey scent out of his nose, or the kindness of her touch out of his mind. And swiftly he realizes that she soothes an ache in his chest he had forgotten existed.

This little human has reminded him how lonely he is. And now he'll do anything to keep her.

Book 3 in the Seven Deadly Demons series will follow Gluttony back to his kingdom hidden in the moors....

Emma Hamm comes back with her spicy seven deadly sins series! I am writing this review as I received an ARC. This is my honest review.

Book 3 in the series we are once again introduced to Gluttony. He was seen last in Greed’s book (book 2). He is definitely a dreamy demon. All us girlies who love the vampires are going to love this book.

He meets Katherine who also has a disability. Which I thought was good representation. The way the characters are together was such good…SPICE BABY SPICE. It had a good amount to build up the kingdom, the characters, and plot. Even if it’s minimal. Still very good

If you liked the previous two books then you will like this one. I have a feeling Envy’s book might be next.

Thank you so much to the author for gifting me an ARC for a review honestly and freely given!
Where to begin? Emma Hamm’s Seven Deadly Demons series has me in a chokehold and this third installment has not changed that fact. Demon Prince has it all; slow burn, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, stalker-sad-emo-vampire boy, strong FMC, beauty and the beast vibes. I loved it from start to finish so here we go!

!!!!!!!!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!

“When had the scent of blood in the evening become so comforting?” Right off the bat, with only assumptions and the synopsis to go off of, I didn’t know who this chapter would belong to. Quickly unfolding as the FMC POV we are introduced to Katherine. A strong female lead with a fully represented and acknowledged disability. It was honestly refreshing to read a character that is fully present and aware of their disability and their limitations. Kat doesn’t ever just hop into a physical challenge without repercussions and consequences. When she has to rest for two days after a strenuous walk, I felt that. She never once apologizes for her injuries or disabilities.

Enter Gluttony. I think he will resonate with most readers for his “I’m better off alone” mentality. It’s easier to contain yourself and your quirks when you are just left alone. Although most quirks are not the need to feed off of your citizens, you get the point. We are introduced to Gluttony from Greed’s story in Demon Crown Book 2. If you can’t recall, he was the sullen, emo brother who had to remain in Greed’s kingdom for a time to attempt control of his vices after killing a woman in his own kingdom. After returning to his own castle, he is tasked by his brothers to discover the ingredient used in the noxious gas that has the ability to debilitate their kind.

While he is working on his task he crosses paths with Kat, albeit before she knows that they have crossed paths. He becomes obsessed with her scent before anything else and she allows him access to her even though she doesn’t know why as it goes against everything she has learned growing up in the dangerous moors of Gluttony’s kingdom.

While reading their developing story I was entranced by the descriptions of Gluttony’s kingdom. The descriptions of the swamps, and moors, and creatures there rendered them more endearing and magical than devastating and desolate when seen through Kat’s an Gluttony’s eyes. I mean the hill in the swamp scene *SWOON*! “He was a mythical creature, just like the villagers always warned her about”.

What an absolute gem of a story to read. I appreciated that Katherine was a virgin with a disability but that didn’t define her at all. If we did not have access to her internal dialogue we would never know those things as she doesn’t make them her entire personality. She lives her life with strength and dignity and is comfortable learning with Gluttony as they both navigate how to lean on another person. I also extremely love that Envy refers to Kat as a harpy in the end. So reminiscent of sibling banter, it made me laugh out loud!

I am so intoxicated by this series and cannot wait for the next installment. I will patiently wait for the next brother’s comeuppance and spread my love for the series in the meantime. I cannot enthusiastically recommend this series enough!

*it was an absolute HONOR to beta-read this for Emma! Don’t sleep on this one, guys!*

You are, without a doubt, a shimmering star in the night sky of my life.

Emma has outdone herself. Absolutely 110% outdone herself with Gluttony’s tale. I didn’t think we could get any better than Greed, but here we are. First of all, I am obsessed with the uniqueness of the bromance Gluttony has with [redacted]. It is so unique to them and it portrayed so well, from frustrations to loyalties and everything in between. Gluttony gives off completely sad boy vibes, and you know what? He rocks them. He breaks your heart into a million pieces, and I’m not sorry to admit that I was in Emma’s DMs telling her I just wanted to hug him more than once. He is misunderstood and hurting and just wants to prove himself again, and in doing so, he seems to have lost himself. He just wants a companion, and somehow the author made me root for the obviously morally grey monster/villain/demon/sad boy and I am not kidding you when I say this is currently my favorite book she’s ever written. Knocked it out of the park. Not only was Gluttony’s backstory and current story (involving a science lab, which had my science teacher heart soaring!) so riveting to learn, but so was that of our female main character. Kat is such a strong character and her growth and self-realization throughout the book as she understands what she wants and needs and has to do is mesmerizing. The culminating point is just…no words, absolutely page-turning, and the few side characters we met gave me strong emotions one way or the other as well. I will tell you this one is not as spicy as the other two Seven Sins books, but the story wouldn’t be the same if it were. I will recommend this one again and again and again.

Maybe it's me, I wasn't feeling it. But I dnf'ed. I got this arc a couple of days back and i was so excited to read it, but for some reading I stopped at 47%. I'll probably pick it up again eventually. I don't know it didn't give me the angst, depth and heart gripping scenes that could get me throug a book.

Big thanks to the author for providing me with the ARC in exchange for an honest review. :)

I inhaled this book in two days! Absolutely loved it, completely fitting for my vampire era. And yes, I have been in my vampire era, because of a certain video game, that has a specific vampire, voiced by the best VA ever. And Gluttony? Yes, he is Astarion-coded. YES.

What to expect?
💕 deal with the devil
💕 tragic MMC
💕 chronic illness FMC rep
💕 he falls first
💕 touch her and die
💕 slow burn
💕 grumpy x sunshine
💕 spicy paranormal romance

Basically, all of my favorite tropes.
And yes, in all of these books, there is a certain formula that is followed. The demons fall in love and they have to find a way to make it possible. But it never feels repetitive or the same. Emma Hamm really creates specific individuals who are all completely different: have different character traits, look differently, act differently, and have different circumstances... Every story feels unique.
I absolutely loved Kat and Gluttony. Gluttony has this tortured emo-boy vibe. But who wouldn't? Wouldn't we all be monsters who cared about nothing and nobody if not a single soul ever showed us some kindness or love? Sweet baby was saved by Katherine who despite her struggles always kept her spark. She was always ready to help people, so who better to save our little vampire? Not to mention... Steamy scenes were on point, per usual!

I am looking forward to reading Envy's story and seeing who will turn his world upside down and put Envy in his place hehehe.

As always, thank you to Emma for blessing me with an ARC 🥰

Y’all know this is one of my favourite series and I absolutely adored Kat and Gluttony!! Their story was so precious and the plot in this book really had me hooked since there was a little bit of a mystery in there. I think Kat might be my favourite FMC from this series so far, she is so fierce and kind & gluttony is such a sweetheart 😭 ugh I loved this & can’t wait to see where the next book takes us

Oh my goodness, if you thought Lust and Greed's books were good wait until you read Gluttony's story. I had the absolute honor to Beta read for Emma and I loved every minute of this book. It held my attention, had a great storyline and plot and boy oh boy the spice was divine. I don't want to post any spoilers, but you will love this demon sad boy so much. I am so glad with how the story ended and literally CANNOT wait for the next book in this series already and this one hasn't even released yet! I highly recommend this entire series and cannot wait for you to be able to read this story. Emma, thank you for allowing me to Beta read for you, it was amazing and I am forever grateful to you!

Thank you Emma for the Beta and Arc version of this amazing novel!

Yet again she hits it out of the ball park! This time with an amazing grumpy love story is what I like to call it! What would you do to keep your entire town safe? Would you give yourself over to the demon? Would you go back if that made your town hate you? That’s what happens here.
Gluttony needs to be stopped and Kat knows just what to do! These are two of the cutest and silliest characters ever! They have to be my favorite in the entire series! Kat is a powerful character and will do just about anything to save the people from Gluttony. Gluttony just wants blood but what if he wants just a little bit more, even if he doesn’t know it yet! I wouldn’t call this a sunshine grumpy romance because they are both grumpy! But that’s what makes this story so fun and cute! Yes we get some spice! I would say it’s on a 4 level and it’s amazing! Emma has really done amazing going from not so spicy to driving right in! I suggest this to anyone that loves romance or a good adventure with some spice!
Also I want to tell you the ending is chefs kiss! And I cant wait for more!!!

Where do I begin honestly because this book so quickly falls from being a good read. At first, I had a lot of hope. The world seemed interesting enough and I loved the swamp/marsh atmosphere. The writing was also fairly good. But it never really gets better than the first few chapters.

What infuriates me the most is our main couple and how they lack any real depth, development or anything that makes me want to care about them. On one hand we have Katherine, a young woman who works at an almshouse in a kingdom that has certainly seen better days. What can I say about Kat? Well…she has a limp, scars, a poor hip…and that’s about it. Katherine’s character flaw lies in this idea that everyone thinks she’s broken and no one would ever want her. This is never actually shown to us and so we just have to take her word for it. She also mentions a few times that she would love to be a healer and not just a stitcher, but this is quickly forgotten and never brought up again. Other than that, we don’t get to know anything else about Katherine’s interests and for a character that wishes someone would see her for more than her disability…this book makes it pretty much her whole personality.

Then we have Gluttony, or as I like to call him, Pathetic. We learn that Gluttony is one of the seven demon kings that control this world of mortals, creatures and spirits. Gluttony, in particular, is a terrible ruler who thinks his people are better off without him than for him. This, in part, is because of his taste for human blood, which he acquires by making deals with desperate women in need of money. But it’s Katherine’s blood that entices him enough to stalk her window for weeks on end. Quickly, this obsession is used to justify a bargain between the two, as Katherine wants to keep the town safe and Gluttony simply wants her. Take a shot every time Gluttony refers to himself as a monster and you might just enjoy this story. He’s a mopping, miserable man who manages to not change a single bit by the end of the story. Which, leads me to my biggest gripe-the romance.

There’s barely a side cast in this story, which is completely fine if the story really takes its time to develop our main characters. This is not the case here. Katherine and Gluttony quickly fall into obsession with each other and because of this, they fail to ever recognize the other’s flaws (so much so that they are barely written into the book). Both of them believe the other can do no wrong and every problem is the fault of others, especially in Katherine’s case. She so easily calls out Envy (Gluttony’s brother) on every inch of his flaws but then praises Gluttony as the best person ever. He literally almost kills her because he doesn’t have control and somehow Envy’s the bad guy for healing her nonstop for a week. Even the town gets blamed for being in shambles because they didn’t try hard enough instead of her admitting that Gluttony has failed them. Katherine views Gluttony as this perfectly imperfect being and it taints the way we perceive the story. I almost feel bad for her because it’s clear the death of her parents have left her vulnerable to the point that I believe she would have fallen for any man that didn’t see her as just her injuries. Lucky for her, Gluttony sees her blood too much to notice! It’s a horribly fleshed out relationship that is borderline toxic and I found myself wondering if the story was going to acknowledge them as such and have a more misfortune ending that speaks on the leeching of emotions between two people who are clearly insecure and unloved. The fact that the spirit Spite turns into Compassion because of Katherine actually made me cackle. Dare I say Spite turned into Desperation and actually wanted to die.

Any conflict is short lived and boring and I found myself rooting for the rebellion because I hated Gluttony THAT much. It’s perfectly reasonable to want to kill the demons that appeared out of nowhere and declared themselves rulers, especially the ruler who is failing his own people. I also hate that when Nikolai (the main rebel) says he’ll kill Katherine and torture her, it’s despicable. But when Gluttony says he’ll track down Nikolai’s entire bloodline and bathe in their blood it’s totally sexy!

In the end, Gluttony turns into the spirit of Restraint (although we manage to see him exhibit no such thing). Him and Katherine are madly obsessed and married while learning really no lessons of value. Probably because 80% of their story is rehashing the same conversation over and over again but with different sex scenes. Envy is the only saving grace of this entire thing but I’m sure his book will nerf him of that.

Oh my lanta! I freaking LOVE Gluttony so much. His ‘sad boy’ vibes were killing me, especially when our FMC would call him out and tell him to stop being such a sad boy. The banter, the tension, the healing journey, the world building all is fabulous. Not everything appears beautiful at all times in our lives but that does not make it worth any less of our attention.

Oh, Gluttony watching him grow and change over the course of the book was so much fun to read. Between the stalking, science experiments, the cleaning lol, the research he does on Katherine's long-term injury. I have been rooting for Gluttony since he was introduced in Greed's book. Between all the brothers I personally would LOVE to spend my time in a dark castle with nobody that is located in a dark swap. But I have also been called weird in the past.

“Oh, he loved her more than the sun loved the moon. He loved her more than forever and wanted nothing more than to rot with her until nothing was left but them.”

Katherine is compassionate, smart, strong, stubborn, forgiving, open minded and a truly beautiful character. She does not let her disability define her. She overcomes and adapts when the world tries to fight her.

“The kingdom that was filled with so much dangerous beauty, just like her. And though Katherine would likely never see herself in the same light, he knew just how dangerous she could be.”

I love that Emma has created such an engrossed kingdom for each one of the brothers. Each kingdom has their own creatures and monsters, morals and culture, and dangers and troubles. It is truly incredible, and I physically cannot wait to see who and what she does for book four.

Thank You So Much for the ARC ❣️

Interesting idea of taking the seven deadly sins and turning them into ruling demon kings that find love.

I loved that the FMC was injured and had a high tolerance for pain since she live with it all the time. Also made for some amazing “who hurt you” trope. I love that she didnt get magically healed of the old injury. And she battled with the idea that she was not broken. As someone that deals with chronic pain myself, it was amazing to see this represented in a fantasy romance book.

It was not as brutal and gory and torturous as Lara Thalassa’s Four Horsemen series, though there were still many dark elements to it: beatings, pain, death, sorrow…sin.

The Demon Prince is the latest in the Seven Deadly Demons series. We’ve already read Lust and Greed’s stories, and this time, we’re focused on Gluttony. We met him in The Demon Crown, where he helped Greed and Varya after being forced there by his brothers. Back in his own kingdom now, he’s been tasked with figuring out the substance the rebels used against Greed. He’s also under intense scrutiny. His desire to consume blood a problem. The humans living in his kingdom are seeing more and more attacks and are placing the blame directly on him, while new strangers to town stir up resentment and rage. And Katherine, a healer in the town, finds her way into Gluttony’s sights. Where he proceeds to be drawn to her beyond reason. Her scent like a siren call for her blood.

Gluttony as a character is super interesting. His very spirit core forces him to want to consume more and more. But he’s also seemingly lost much of what made him gluttonous. His castle is run down. There’s no fine things surrounding him, as he’s let them all rot and wither. His desire for blood has consumed him as much as he wants to consume it. And his past haunts him, leaving him troubled and giving big sad boy energy. When Katherine comes into his life, it’s like he gets an infusion of pure life into his own veins. She brings him back from the edge.

Katherine herself is amazing. She was injured as a child and now has chronic pain. Her hip causes her problems, leaving her limping. Her joint is messed up, her nerves firing pain up and down her legs and glute. I have a super similar issue. I have a fused disk in my tailbone that caused a bunch of issues, leaving me with chronic back pain, and later on, an inflamed nerve that radiates down my leg and glute. My joints are a mess too. So I seriously FELT this. Her pain is so similar to mine, and it’s so rare you see girls like us as the main love interests. Violet in Fourth Wing was the closest it came before this for me. But I was so thankful for this character. Seeing her overcome her issues and keep living was amazing.

She was one of many who were afraid of Gluttony until she met him and couldn’t help being very into him. She gave herself over to him in exchange for him only feeding on her, trying to help her town. No one in her tiny village saw beyond her injury before, so she had no experience going into this. And she looses herself in Gluttony a bit. But things stabilize eventually. The two are very cute together. And I loved getting to see their journey.

I knew the town would become a problem, with the strangers there trying to stir things up. Each book we are seeing more and more of the plan to overthrown the demon kings. The showdown here was great, and I can’t wait to see more in further books until we get to the true source of this. Envy seems to be the next book, as he was the visiting brother here. Every book has one which is then the next book’s focus. We got to see the other brothers call in, and Selene and Varya were with them. It was great to see them again, especially Lust & Selene, who I feel like was so long ago, and I’ve missed them! I’m hoping when we get to the last book, everyone joins in!

We also have the requisite change of the demon king and his love being made a spirit to contend with. If you’ve read books one and two, then you would know this is coming! I loved what happened here. It was very sweet for Katherine. Much like Selene, she got to be friends with the spirit first. Though, it was given in a very different way. Actually, it was the opposite from Selene’s! Gluttony’s change was less extreme, which seemed quite fitting. Maybe it would make sense for Gluttony to be gluttonous about changing as well, but to me, I thought the fact he couldn’t change that much more fitting! He was Gluttony, and there will always be something gluttonous there. But learning restraint is priceless for him!

I’ve loved all of the Seven Deadly Demons books so far, and I can’t wait to get to Envy’s and learn more of his super magical kingdom! I love how different each brother and their kingdom is. From Lust and his pleasure filled orgy kingdom of plenty. To Greed and his warring desert kingdom. And now Gluttony, with his vampire-esque nature, his kingdom filled with dangerous beasts and small number of humans, and the moors, bogs, and swamps that dominate the land. I’m looking forward to the rest, and seeing what each will bring!

I received an eARC of this book. This is my honest review of the story!

I received this book as an ARC, so many thanks to Emma Hamm and team! This review reflects my honest opinions about the book.

As always, Emma knows how to create something unique and exciting! I love coming back to this world with their floating islands and grumpy demon kings, and I love how different each brother is from the next.

This book focuses on Gluttony, who is a vampire but with such an interesting twist! He was absolutely a sad boy (as described by the FMC herself), and I loved seeing him coming out of his shell around Kathrine. The self-loathing was, however getting a bit much and it carried on for a very long time. Him seeing himself as a disappointment to his brothers for most of the book made sense, but him being overly emotional and withdrawing from Kat for days because he didn’t deem himself worthy of her got old pretty quickly. He also kept mentioning to himself how he would try to make himself better for her, then he would go and tell Envy how much he appreciates Kat and that she’s brave and all this.. BUT NEVER TOLD HER, at least until very much towards the end of the book. He was telling everyone else but HER what he thought about her, all the while she was just there thinking “This guy thinks i'm broken”

Now with Kathrine, she was also doing the same thing as him, making promises to herself how she’s going to “woo him”, but i never saw that in the book. As a character and how she was portrayed, I absolutely loved her. She was so raw and no-BS allowed, always direct even in front of Envy. Unapologetic about her actions and the man she loves!!!

The relationship did progress at a weird pacing, which put me off a bit. There was no actual build-up or “slow burn” properly, at least not that i caught, and it felt like they went from “they hate themselves so they are not worthy of the other” to straight love. There was some part where they were saying “friends” but that didnt get developed very well, I didn’t see them being friends.
I also didn’t like that whatever Gluttony was doning for Kat is was just mentioned, never shown. HOWEVER, the moment they put everything aside and were like F-ck this we’re in love, it was a brilliant relationship. They were so cute and Gluttony was just so whipped for her I loved it.

The plot was very much background noise to me and a little bit weak, especially compared to the other 2 books, and stuff got resolved very easily I think. The stalking didn’t last very long she just went after him. The weird mist was discovered just like that oh it’s this herb that actually grows almost everywhere. Oh and that mob and revolt was just meh, cool detail is the same people as in Greeds book (or rather the same group of people) but honestly I didn’t care for it. It would ve been more intriguing if the town itself came with the idea. I wish the thing with the murdered people would’ve been a more prominent plot point, but that’s obviously just personal preference.

All in all, the book was good and enjoyable and I will definitely continue the series because I’m so invested in these brothers!

Kat & Gluttony - I did NOT see their force coming to sweep me away as the favorite of this ongoing three-book series. And yet.. here we are and I'm not mad about it.

The scene: Gluttony's kingdom is not as opulent as the two brothers we've read about so far. In fact, its literally a boggy, marshy, swampy type of kingdom where living is hard and working is all people know - its an honest living but no one is exactly thrilled to live here. Poverty is the name of the game and folks will do just about anything to get a little more coin.. even if it means making a deal with their unscrupulous, blood-drinking king.

Written in dual POV, my favorite, we learn as we read that Kat has been independently on her own, making her way, with debilitating injuries sustained in childhood. She gets no real support from the community she lives in but manages to feel understanding and empathy with her fellow townsfolk. As is wont to happen, a chance encounter with a spirit places her in the sights of Gluttony.

Gluttony, the emo sad boi of his family, has decided he's so monstrous that no one needs to be near him - thinking it better to let his kingdom fend for itself rather than impose his abhorrent presence on his subjects, he lives in his castle and exchanges his coin or other items to the people brave enough to ask it of him. Lonely and so tired from being the outcast for so many years, Kat is a light in his darkness, even though her bargain makes him feel that he's only as good as what he can give.

Kat has a backbone of steel and a heart of literal gold - she shows up for her people when they want nothing to do with her and decides that she is worth sacrificing if it means they'll be safe. Gluttony, exposed to Kat's kindness and determination to help all those around her, finds that he may be a monster ruling his kingdom but he would very much like to be her monster.

Watching Kat do literally nothing but be herself around this man who is so misunderstood and stews faithfully in his self-hatred gives the most heart-touching feelings.. a romance where the FMC is able to reach the MMC purely by the way she shows him with actions, not just words, that he is worthy.

If you like:
- a Beauty and the Beast aesthetic where she radiates light enough for him to be warmed by it, too
- the story of Dracula, but if Dracula was a broken man beat down by his own self-loathing and allows for the misunderstanding of his character to go unchecked because he seeks self-punishment
- seeing how the MMC finally feels like who he is is enough, and embraces all that he is and will become..
.. you're going to inhale this book. Definitely check out books 1 and 2 as they're equally as delightful and you'll see some repeat characters here, but I would argue it's just as easily consumed (pun intended lol) as a standalone... but trust me, you'll pick up the others anyway.

2.5 to 3 stars.
Technically finished on 28 December, but I had to hold off marking this as finished until after my holidays.

GENERAL THOUGHTS

For some reason this book felt a lot different from the first two. It was heavy on the romance, which is not a bad thing (and one of the similarities to it’s predecessors), but it read like a bit like a gothic romance.

There was an undertone of melancholy, lots of ansgst, self-loathing (from both MCs), background plots of gore and murder, set in a murky-tone “swamp” kingdom…

I like myself a moody romance read, but this one edges depressing because of how repetitive the “moonings” are of Gluttony & Katherine.

Katherine has crippling (pun intended) scars from her past and thinks herself lesser. Gluttony thinks he’s a monster and beyond redemption, yet can’t help but obsess over his “pet” (kind of a kinky nickname, but okay). Together, they were so depressed and full of self-pity for 80% of the book that it read as such a downer…

THE “OH”

I also found it irritating that almost every other scene features an internal monologue of Gluttony or Katherine’s to start off with: “Oh,” “And oh,” and “Ah”, followed by some love-struck declaration. For instance:

💬 “Oh, he wanted to feel her lose herself around him…”
💬 “And oh, that heat burned ever hotter.”
💬 “Oh, the jealousy that burned through him…”
💬 “And oh, she was lovely”
💬 “Oh, he wanted a thousand things with her”
💬 “And oh, he was nothing but a moth to her flame.”
💬 “Oh, his pet pressed back”
💬 “Oh, he needed her in his arms and his fangs in her neck”

… If you’re wondering how many more there are, the answer is MANY. Too many more. I started feeling the irritation at seeing these patterns at around Chapter 14, and this book has 46 chapters in total. It’s so freakin’ overused.

SPICE

Not much to complain about with the spice, although this one was a little slow (around 50% mark). It was also a little kinkier than the first two in the series, and there is a blood kink, but that is to be expected as Gluttony is some weird demon-spirit-vampire.

Sadly even the spice and romance is terribly overshadowed by how depressed the characters are most of the time, and by the time they get together, I was more skim-reading the spice scenes because in between the heat were comments of such angst that I was too over it to care.

CLOSING REMARKS

I started skim reading around 78%, and barely caught the plot reveals, epic love confessions and the HEA… and I must have pushed too hard with this book, because this should be the part that you take your time to read, and I was too tired to care that skim-reading meant that I missed most of those details.

I'm a glutton for Gluttony (haha). Demon Prince is the third book in Emma Hamm's Seven Deadly Demons series. I wouldn't have thought it but so far, Gluttony is my favorite of the brothers.

Let's face it, Gluttony is an emo vampire and I mean that in the best of ways. He totally surprised me, he seems more human (or as close as they can get) than any of his brothers. He has such deep emotions. He wasn't the monster that he, nor his brothers, nor the kingdom thought he was. Gluttony had some major self-hatred going on and I felt for him. He has a compulsion that wasn't in his control and no one bothered to ask the right questions or really get to know him. He was both nerdier (he's an alchemist) and sweeter than I expected. I adored him.

Katherine is Gluttony's love interest. She cares about people, she looks after them both medically and emotionally. While she does have a disability (an old injury), she does this with grace, she is a very capable woman. I had a couple of issues with Katherine. First, she kinda let her people disregard her, and made excuses for them until she couldn't. Second, she kept talking herself out of her feelings and let rumors color her POV, even if it was for a short amount of time. However, I loved that Katherine eventually thinks for herself, takes the time to get to know people, owns up to her feelings, finally, and is more open-minded than most.

The romance in this book was fantastic. The connection between Kat and Gluttony was instantaneous but neither wanted to admit their feelings to even themselves at first. It was obvious they were smitten with each other, probably because they could see what the other couldn't, as well as a piece of themselves reflected back. They really were perfect for each other, they both finally found a person to care about them. It was the sweetest. Gluttony's kingdom is a bit worse for the wear but Katherine finds the beauty in it. I can kinda see why, this kingdom has supernatural creatures. Emma worked in a lot of Celtic mythological creatures like the Vodyanoy, Kelpies, Will-o’-the-wisps, and more in the story. I love mythology, fairytales, and folklore, so I highly enjoyed those little touches.

What an excellent read Demon Prince surprised me in so many (good) ways. I loved reading Katherine's and Gluttony's story and the ending was perfect. Kat and Gluttony had a visit from a certain green-eyed brother, Envy was an idiot and insightful all at once and I have a feeling that we will be getting his story next. I can't wait until he finds a woman that can meet him

He loved her. Oh, he loved her more than the sun loved the moon. He loved her more than forever and wanted nothing more than to rot with her until nothing was left but them.

Emma Hamm just keeps raising the bar with this series, and The Demon Prince might be my favorite yet. I didn’t expect to love Gluttony more than Lust, but his story completely stole the show.

Gluttony is such a resonant character—his “I’m better off alone” mentality feels so human, even though his flaws are far from ordinary. Kat, on the other hand, is his perfect opposite. Scarred and underestimated by her village, she’s learned to carve out her own worth, even if others fail to see it. When she offers herself as a solution to Gluttony’s hunger, it sparks a relationship that is both tender and consuming in the best ways. Their meeting is fate, and their slow-burn connection absolutely captivated me.

One of my favorite parts of this book was the setting. Gluttony’s domain could have easily been cold and bleak, but Emma painted it as strangely beautiful—haunting, yes, but also magical. The way Kat and Gluttony experience the world together made those landscapes feel alive. I could definitely see myself walking the same path as them.

Kat herself was such a standout heroine. Her disability and inexperience are part of her story, but they never define her. She’s strong without posturing, brave without being reckless, and her personal growth is just as captivating as the romance. I loved how natural her connection with Gluttony felt—the way she softened his loneliness while he gave her space to claim her own strength. She matches hiss loneliness with warmth and understanding, and their journey together is equal parts tender and enthralling.

And then there’s the humor. Envy’s jab at Kat near the end had me laughing out loud—classic sibling energy that brought so much warmth to the darker tones of the story. Emma balanced romance, world-building, humor, and tension so well. The climax of the book was absolutely page-turning, and even the side characters stirred strong emotions in me.

Between the immersive writing, the rich world-building, the emotional depth, and a romance that hit all the right notes, this book was nearly impossible to put down. Gluttony has firmly earned his place as one of my favorite demon princes.

Gluttony and Katherine ♡

I love this series. Each book is similar in some ways but so different in others. Gluttony was my favorite side character in Greeds story, I couldn't wait for his book to come out.
I didn't expect Gluttony to be such an emo guy because he didn't appear that way in the previous book, but after learning what happened, it sort of made sense. Kat was great, I loved how fiery and determined she was and never let her weakness stop her from doing anything.

Gluttonys kingdom, unlike his brothers, is somewhat disjointed. His castle is empty and falling apart. The villagers fear him because of what he has become. Unlike his brothers, Gluttony has become to like the taste of his own subjects by drinking their bl00d. They come to him seeking deals for coin when desperate in exchange for a sip. Kat works in the almshouse she's the best stitcher for the healers, and working with blood is nothing new. Their kingdom is dangerous with so many creatures ready to feast on them she's always busy stitching up some poor soul. She's even stitched up victims after Gluttony has had his way with them, but his latest victim nearly didn't make it.
She's never seen the demon who rules their kingdom, but she knows enough to know she hates him. Lead to her by a spirit one night. Kat quickly becomes Gluttonys' new obsession. Her scent draws him in and sends him crazy. He stalks her nightly in the shadows and eventually sends Kat right to his kingdom for a deal. Her bl00d and he bl00d only if he stops stealing it from the unwilling. Of course, Gluttony agrees he's been dying for just a taste.
But Kat quickly discovers Gluttony is not who she suspected he's much more in many ways, and as much as he wants to keep her, she wants to keep him too. But someone or something is out to turn Gluttonys kingdom against him as more victims turn up sporting injuries, imitating his own feeding patterns.
Like a disease, they infect his subjects, turning them against him more. With the only person by his side being Kat, he has more to worry about than just him now.

ARC Review:
“They were all flawed monsters. He had just accepted it about himself long before his brothers.”

Have you ever just really wanted to hug a character so freaking hard? And then like, idk, have them *hug* you back

I honestly don’t even fully know what to say about this one. I just 1,000% loved it and think everyone needs to go read it!

Emma Hamm has given me, yet again, a favorite. Her world building, characters, and plot lines always draw me in but when she writes someone as flawed as they are loving I just can’t put the book down.

Gluttony is what I would call a sad realist. His kingdom isn’t the best, he’s a “lousy” king (who isn’t flawed?), but he has a job to do and he is GOING to do it, past consequences serving as a lesson. Unless…..

Here we find Katherine. A strong-willed woman who tends to the injured in her town, smart as she is compassionate. She quickly becomes Gluttony’s newest obsession. She shouldn’t feel the things she does for the king who causes the wounds she sews up, but she sees him. She really sees him. Which creates a problem all its own….

“He wouldn’t have it. His newest obsession would not live in such a dangerous place.“

My favorite thing about their evolving relationship is how they compliment each other while being so different. Gluttony takes, Katherine pushes back, and they both learn. And how much he CARES for her. Oof. I’ll take one Gluttony for me please! He can redo a room for me any day.

I love getting sucked into an Emma Hamm world. It always feels like you are in the middle of the setting with the characters and it’s no fun to wake up to the real world after! This series has been a favorite of mine but so far, sorry Lust, Gluttony is my new fave!

Read now for:
- he falls first #obsessed
- kinda sorta stalks her
- disability rep FMC, grumpy MMC
- slow burn
- blood play
- steammmmmmy romance
- touch her and die
- a forced-proximity-type deal

" I live in this world and see it for what it really is. Not for what it can give me. "

This book is honestly such a lovely reminder of the beauty that still exists alongside the brutality we witness in the world. I absolutely loved everything about this book. From the romance, the plot, the unique setting, the disability representation, and the emotional healing journey.

The scenery in Gluttony's kingdom is utterly fascinating and unlike anything I have read before. I was enthralled by the swampland and all of the beasts that dwelled in it. To have a kingdom of towns that were built onto the swamps created such an interesting dynamic between the townsfolk, the creatures, and their demon king.

Katherine is such a light in this story and to see someone shine so brightly with kindness, patience, and perseverance in spite of the almost impossible odds against everyone living there, along with the attitudes of her peers was very emotional for me. A welcomed reminder that it costs nothing to be kind and that situations, actions, and words of others should not affect your ability to be compassionate.

Gluttony is our resident gloomy goth boy and I love him for it. His journey from self-depreciation and loss of meaning to being hopeful for the future and his ability to change was so satisfying to experience. He has some of the most romantic lines in this book and it made my heart melt. He is a mix between a hot chemistry professor and a feral cat out for blood and I was here for the duality.

I can't believe I am saying it, but I think Gluttony has outranked Greed as my favorite (I honestly didn't think it was possible). His and Katherine's relationship was emotionally gratifying and really captivating to watch unfold.

Thank you Emma for the ARC! I loved your sad emo boi and am ready to see Envy get his world turned upside down!

I loved this book! It's the perfect October spooky read, it contains mentions to several Halloween creatures and has a dark, but not that scary, plot.

Gluttony is one of my favorite characters from this series so far. He's incredibly self-aware, which is refreshing to see in comparison to his brothers, who can sometimes be a little dense. He still had a lot of thinking and growing to do, especially once he realized he couldn't change for someone else, he has to change for himself. It's a great message. In the end, getting better is something you do for yourself!

Katherine is also such a strong character! She spends a lot of the book struggling with accepting her disability and dealing with how poorly other people treat her. She learns that her disability doesn't make her weak and not to tolerate anyone's disrespect.

Their relationship is quite sweet. Katherine is quick to not believe the worst of people and Gluttony doesn't want to hurt her, even though he does want to drink her blood. This makes an interesting dynamic, as they have to get to know and trust each other, despite their complicated situation.

Envy is a complex character. He cares about his siblings, but doesn't want to tell them that, so he creates elaborate schemes to find out their wellbeing instead of asking. He was also quite rude to Katherine at first, but he did realize his mistake, so he's not opposed to being proved wrong or to apologizing. I'm quite interesting to read his book too!

We meet a lot of new princes in this book, which I wasn't expecting, but it was very interesting to see their dynamics as siblings.

If you're looking for a spooky romance this October, check the Demon Prince out!

Tw: sexual content, drinking blood, torture, violence, mentions of a fire and injuries, ableism.

Emma Hamm, what did you put into this? I literally could not put it down!

I am so honoured that I was chosen to be an ARC reader for the Gluttony book. I won’t go into too many spoilers, but overall I will be highly recommending this book to my friends, mother-in-law, my neighbours, the lady at the post office, and basically anyone who asks me for a book recommendation. I can’t wait until it comes out so I can get my hands on a hard copy to put on my trophy shelf.

Katherine was our main female character in the book and the amount of compassion that she shows to everyone in this book is amazing. She has a permanent limp from being in a house fire when she was young and fell down the stairs. Katherine worked in a clinic to help people who were sick/in pain and sew them up if their wounds were too great. She was apart of Gluttony’s kingdom, which a little spirit lead Gluttony right to her window.

Gluttony was a sad demon king with skeletons in his closet. Until he smelled Katherine. He was obsessed with her but didn’t want to frighten her. He preferred to consume blood as his main diet and hers called to him. She came to him to make a selfless deal as all the villagers assumed he was slaughtering them and drinking from whomever he wanted. Katherine said he could have her blood and only hers if he leaved the villagers alone.

At the time, there was a chemical that Gluttony was trying to solve for himself and his brothers, that could potentially harm them. After the close proximity to Katherine, he figured out it was a herb that caused this could cause this to happen to his brothers.

Gluttony started to change as he and Katherine fell in love with each other. There was also Spite, the little spirit who Katherine was found of.

I’m surprised with the high rating on this book. Out of all three, this was my least favorite.

Katherine— Katherine, Katherine, we get it. You’re not broken. But how can we remember you’re not broken when you continually bring up that people think you are and the forever aches and pains you’re going through. I think it was great of Hamm to represent burn survivors and handicapped BUT I feel like she didn’t talk about the strength burn survivors may have. Or even the struggles Katherine may have gone through with her traumatic past. I think she was stubborn and I’m surprised she was given “compassion” as her spirit because I didn’t think she exuded that all the time. If anything, she irked me.

Gluttony — you, sir, were one moping idiot. I feel like Hamm tried to portray him as smart with all the alchemy stuff. But he made dumb choices solely because he was “hungry”. SIR, we get it. And we get you’re filled with sorrow and regret.

The only thing I enjoyed was knowing the brothers more. I wish wish wish there was more interaction between the brothers. I hope we see them come together more. I’m really disappointed in this book. If it was about building connection, I wouldn’t mind but it felt forced. I didn’t feel like it was genuine or that love was really growing. I saw more a friendship than anything. I also wanted to see the human problem to be addressed more. It was such a minimal part of the overall story that it seemed pointless.

It was more like Katherine whining, sacrificing herself, getting a bit horny, wanting to still be independent, but then being a bit of a hypocrite later??? Like huh?

I had the honor of both beta reading AND ARC reading this book and let me tell you, it's another masterpiece!

Emma has done it again! These books just gets better and better.
The Demon Prince is the story of Gluttony and I absolutely adore him🥹
Everyone sees him as a monster, but in reality he's just a big old softie that waits by the door for Katherine and would do anything for the ones he love.
From the moment he sees Katherine, he's obsessed with her. He needs her.
Katherine is scarred and disabled. She has a bad hip after an injury when she was little. The people in the village sees her as broken, but Gluttony sees her as a woman. A brave woman.
Kat is fierce, compassionate and strong. She never complains. She's used to pain, but refuses to let it stop her. She makes a bargain with Gluttony in order to save her people.

It was refreshing to read about Kat since she's disabled. She reminded me of myself so much since I also have a bad hip. I was born with hip dysplasia and I also have HSD (hypermobility spectrum disorder) which results in chronic pain. We also look alike with our red hair, green eyes and freckled nose.
I love the chemistry between Gluttony and Kat. I love how amazing they treated each other. As equals. Gluttony did everything in order to make Kat as content as possible. Kat didn't want to leave Gluttony's side when times were rough.
They were made for each other and I was made for this series🥹🧡

AND she does it yet again! I swear, every book I read gets better and better and even though EVERY single time I say that the demon in the book I’m reading is my favorite, here I go again saying just that!! Gluttony from The Demon Prince by the ever so lovely @emmahammauthor is BY FAR my FAVORITE demon king. As always a huge thank you to Emma for not only letting me read the arc for this book, but also letting me be a beta reader (my first one ever). She’s pretty awesome 😊 Gluttony is so full of raw emotion, he thinks so poorly of himself because he thinks he is a monster but in truth he is just a softie. He is emotionally ruined but DAMN did I love him! When he catches a whiff of Katherine he becomes obsessed. He needs her. And slowly she realizes that she needs him! When he asks her to come live with him in exchange for something important from her she jumps on the opportunity to save her kingdom. Katherine has a bad hip but gluttony thinks she is perfect. She is strong and fights through her hardships! She’s compassionate, caring, wise and unafraid. But will she save the kingdom or her heart?
As always, I love the enemies to lovers, the slow burn, and I absolutely LOVE the way Emma keeps world building these books. She is so creative and has such an artistic writing style and each story she writes flows so smoothly. The moores are some of my favorite magical elements. The smut 🌶️🌶️ !
Cannot wait for more from my favorite author

This book was hot.
I knew that Gluttony was going to be a very hot demon indeed, especially from what we've seen on the previous book, but I was not expecting it to be this level.
He was also a sad boy that hated himself and I was not expecting that. It really complemented to Katherine's personality well.
I loved her resistance to challenges and loved that we got a MFC that had a disability - and one that didn't *vanished* with magic.
My only complain is that these two characters were isolated from everyone, a lot of the book was internal monologues. It's just not healthy in the end. I wished Katherine had breaks with friends and find connections other than Gluttony. And wished Gluttony would open himself to other people beside Kat. Also wished for him to actual start helping his kingdom instead just doing a speech at the end that he will help them from now on and Kat's speech at the end that him paying to suck women from the village was a way of helping them - which was very convenient if I have to say, as we know he sucked their blood because he wanted it, not because he wanted to help.
I also do understand why this book was more character driven than plot. Both these character needed time to actual heal from their internal struggles, and they managed to do that in the end.
Besides that, very hot book! Loved that his body would morph into an actual demon when he was horny hehe.
Now I'm ready to Envy, let's go!

Gluttony and Katherine two broken souls who needed each other to heal.

Katherine had an accident as a child and she was left physically altered for life. Because of this no matter what she did or how hard she worked she was always viewed as broken or less than.

Gluttony, the king of the region, was feared and exiled by his own people because of a misunderstood mistake he had made in the past. Because of this everyone viewed him as a demon instead of their king.

When Gluttony becomes obsessed with Katherine she decides to use this to her advantage. And offers herself to him in exchange for her leaving the town alone. They begin to work their way into each others hearts and lives.

Healing from deep wounds takes time but Katherine is patient and helps Gluttony find his way. This book is very long in the way of them working through their issues. And time passes in a strange way within the story. I’m not sure how long of a time frame the story covers. But I did have a bit of hard time with the extensive coverage of the emotional issues. It was almost as is each time progress was made then something happened and they regressed.

The story overall was worth the read. And if the premise sounds intriguing then I would definitely give it a go.

I received this as an ARC for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review.
