Temptation is a great evil. It can make you feel on top of the world or make you wish you had never succumbed in the first place. It can make a person or be their destruction. But what does one do when they meet a temptation that calls to their very soul? This is the dilemma that Alaina finds herself in over and over again with Jonathan. She knows she shouldn’t yield to the temptation but the pull to him is so great she can’t deny it. Stuck in a passionless relationship she finds her desires in another man, a man who has captured not only her lust but her heart as well. Will the temptation be their downfall or their salvation?
Jinni James is an administrative assistant, wife, and mother of two girls as well as a step mother based in Huntsville, Alabama. Since child hood she has written many short stories and poems but never dreamed of writing a novel. She attempted to write many stories but never finished. Finally she was in the perfect place in her life to write a story that had been invading her thoughts and dreams for a very long time. That story blossomed into her first novel The Wolfs Maine. She is now currently working on her next novel.
Although this is a short story - you really feel the characters. Jinni James brought them to life for me. What Alaina and Jonathan feel for each other is explosive. I'm not a huge fan of books where the H/H are in other relationships, but the pull between the two and the contrast of the other relationships worked for me. I would have liked to have met Melanie, perhaps we'll see more of her in story two.
“I don’t understand why Destiny allows some people to meet and fall in love when there’s no way for them to be Together.” ~SunNoQuotes/Tumblr~
That quote and those impactful words kept running through my mind like a broken record as I was reading Temptations. Why…why would the Universe or Fate be so cruel? This delectable short story had me doing some deep thinking, which isn’t always a good thing. However, in this case my wayward thoughts added my own personal spice to the tale.
Jonathan and Alaina are two people who belong together, but can’t be ‘together’ because they’re in relationships with other people. Still, they seize every opportunity to sate their lust for each other in some very torrid sex scenes. I found myself caught up in their covert coupling and wondered what I would do in their situation...if I could resist Temptation. I particularly liked the outdoor sex scene with the risk of discovery by their nearby respective mates adding fuel to their furtive quickie.
The lust and desire between Jonathan and Alaina simmers in each paragraph, but is it more than mere lust? The author has written the story from Alaina’s point of view and she clearly has it bad, but Jonathan also can’t get enough of her either. I’m not selling lust short, but I kept asking myself just how much do they truly love each other. Responsibility and obligations are powerful anchors, so I understand the fix the two of them are in. Do they hurt the people they care about or do they fight that b*tch called Fate and find a way to be together??
This is the kind of book that makes me eagerly anticipate the next installment. I guess I’ll just have to buy Erotic Encounters – Volume 2 to find out what happens next to the star crossed Jonathan and Alaina.
