Birch Island Cases #1

Observer: A Supernatural Thriller

Rate this book
I feel like a moth trying to figure out what that blinding, beautiful light is. So close it’s about to burn me alive. It’s exhilarating.

Giving in to the pull of the Island, Owen Lamont has taken a writing position at The Birch Island Observer. A supernatural tabloid focusing on the weird and unexplainable.

For Owen, that means every week is a new story.

A new spirit to chase.

A new monster hunting him in the dark.

When you see it, aim for center mass. You won’t get a second shot.

Now, he’s being followed. Is the Woman in Black a government agent, an assassin, or something worse?

Owen can’t be sure who to trust or what to believe. But he does know one thing for sure: he isn’t just investigating anymore. He’s now a part of this story.

The key is in the door. All you have to do is turn it.

Observer Is a fast-paced supernatural thriller with roots in episodic monster-of-the-week horror media. If you love paranormal investigations and occult mysteries, you’ll love Observer!

This was awesome!

Owen felt drawn to Elizabeth's Court on Birch Island, but not just because of the tourist attractions. Something has always compelled him to be there, and when he decides to make his residence there full-time, the search for the source of that compulsion gets even stronger.

Real supernatural events keep happening there, and Owen has found himself smack dab in the middle of it all.

Will Owen be able to survive long enough to find out why he's here?

Great beginning to a series that reminds me of the X-Files bit instead of professional agents as the protagonist. You have instead some guy that could either be you or someone you know.

Very cool storyline, and the rhythm of slow dread to extreme revelations is almost every chapter!

Very fun!!

Old skool creepy
One way to get one’s creative writing juices flowing is by working at a rag that sells ‘stories, not facts’. Kinda like a non-FBI “X-Files”, except that ‘not everything is a conspiracy’.

I don’t have the prequel (‘Dark Petition’), but I do have three related short stories (‘The Boneless’, ‘The Ritual’, and ‘The Radio’).

Jacob Marsh is my new favorite horror writer! I love the way he balanced every day life at the paper with some weird twisty macabre elements! Excited to see where he takes the reader next!

Owen is a reporter for the Birch Island Observer. That tells supernatural stories. As he investigates, he encounters a mysterious woman in black. She seems to be following him. Is Owen safe? Full of mystery

Honestly didn't even finish it. About a 1/3 of the way through, and nothing really seems scary or creepy. Just not that interesting.
