Father Dane Caruso has been a priest for seven and a half years and certain of his affirmation to help the Catholic Church and preach the Word of God. He was the person everyone called on during a crisis or emotional devastation — Dane was everyone’s rock. However, all that came into question after the death of a dear friend. Dane begins to look at his life and do some soul searching, revisiting situations and monsters from the past that continue to rear their heads in his time of need and spiritual upheaval. He seeks relief in unconventional things, his flesh forcing him to make choices that he knows are not healthy. Trying to get back on track, he goes to a local park, one of his all-time favorites, and sits and simply thinks, day after day, trying to heal a broken heart.
As he continues to visit the park for peace of mind and solace, he can’t help but notice a beautiful Bohemian woman. She more than catches his eye, arousing feelings in him he’d suppressed since he entered the priesthood. He can’t get her out of his mind, and though he can’t put his finger on it, she appears familiar to him. She is practically his polar opposite, yet the two forge a friendship built on humor, respect and admiration. However, the struggle soon ensues once Dane realizes he likes her to be more than just a friend, and he has to make serious choices that could affect so many people who love and depend on him.
He is at a crossroads — does he give up the priesthood to be with her, or forge ahead, forgetting about Lotus, the angelic songbird that floated right into his heart... ______________________ Please Note: Though this book is not classified as erotica, it does involve the following subject matters/topics/ideals, which may be offensive to some audiences: religion – particularly the Catholic faith as it pertains to priesthood. It also includes detailed sexual and intimate depictions of a consenting couple and a host of situations that are adult in nature. This book is not intended to encourage or discourage those in the Catholic faith. It is a love story that deals with the human experience in its totality.
Tiana Laveen was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. She moved away, and now lives inside of her mind, but her heart is occupied with her husband, two children, and twisted imagination. She enjoys a fulfilling and enriching life that includes writing books, public speaking, drawing, painting, listening to music, cooking, and spending time with loved ones.
Tiana Laveen is a uniquely creative and innovative author whose romance fiction is geared towards those who not only want to temporarily escape from the daily routines of life, but also became pleasantly caught up in the twisted, well developed journeys of her unique characters. Tiana creates a painting with words as she guides her reader into the lives of each and every main character. Her dedication to detail and staying true to her characters is evident in each novel that she writes.
After reading this gem of a novel, all I can say is that this is not your average everyday IRR love story. It's a story that transcends race and religion, but speaks to matters of the heart, faith, love, forgiveness, and redemption.
I was well pleased with the fact Ms. LaVeen has chosen to focus more on the story rather than just erotic aspects of the story. After having read her "Saint" series, I was glad to know that Ms. LaVeen was not stuck as a writer of IRR erotica/Street Lit.
As a writer, I believe that Tiana LaVeen is just hitting her stride and beginning to perfect her craft as a stellar writer.
Although there were a few miniscule editing mishaps, overall the storyline was well-paced, the characters were well-developed, and the story, captivating.
It is my opinion that this book is a worthwhile investment for anyone's Nook or Kindle Library.
This is a love story, but it is so different from anything this author has written. Dane is a priest, who falls in love, and this is not erotica this is romance, you get to watch he a Rhapsody fall in love and it’s written beautifully. This author’s imagination and intelligence always amazes me, she wrote this story well, it’s not like anything I have read, she did not cheapen the relationship with hot sex, she showed you a friendship that turned into the love that was meant to be.
OMG..... I just finished this book!!! It was SUPER FANTASTICALS! I want a husband like Dane! Dane is a man who loves so strongly, PASSIONATELY, and deeply! (The piano love scene: *moans* O_o) This was a beautiful story! Rhapsody is one blessed chick! I attended Catholic schools from preschool to 12th Grade, so I witnessed some of this emotional turmoil. But this book gave me even greater incite! Thanks again for the great research and another great read Tiana Laveen!
Ugh! Lost a huge review. Hate it when that happens! to be continued....
OK- this may be a tad spoilerish, but not in details so much as overall. This was a a fairly decent read. Its been on my list FOREVER but with me being so moody about what I read, it took a while to find a couple of days that said "Catholic guilt" to me. LOL
Lets go with the pro's first.
Laveen OBVIOUSLY did some homework in terms of Catholicism, the priesthood and the repercussions that would follow a situation such as this. Father Dane's life, his interaction with his peers and even with the heroine, Rhapsody (yes, I know. I just can't with that name) were very much in line with what I would expect from someone in his dposition. He was likeable, committed and even in the midst of his personal upheaval, his FAITH was without question. I never felt he didn't know his own mind or was some how just in denial while enjoying getting his kicks. That's huge because I think a story like this could easily run that risk if not handled correctly.
The author also TOOK HER TIME. Now, let me be clear with that lol. There WAS one point where I did think it was almost moving too slow. The friendship developed over time, and even though we as the reader can pick up the cues that, "Hey-y'all are feelin each other", and it was clear that THEY knew of the attraction it was also clear they had ZERO intention of doing anything about it. And it didn't even irritate me lol I respected it. Good on her. Also, Dane wasn't wishy washy and I can't say he was ever truly in denial. Once he started really feeling this woman, he fought it ofcourse BUT, not to insane degrees or in ways that made him come off as punishing HER or not knowing his own mind. And once he made his decision, he did NOT falter. It was made clear he knew what he had to lose, but he placed that mantle on his shoulders and dug in. He always made it clear that AFTER he made the decision to see what the relationship could be, he was all about worrying about HER and seeing to it that she felt secure and guilt free. I dig that. He also showed just the right shades of manhood. It was nice to have a confident man that didn't have to be all alpha in a book. An alpha priest would be a damned hard sell. LOL
Now the con's.....
We are made aware that Dane has suffered in terms of his family from a very young age. We are never told the details of this until nearly the damn end. While I can understand why Laveen may have taken this route, it kind of backfires in that if you DON'T get that kind of information as you read it, the ultimate pay off scene falls flat. When Dane finally stands up, asserts his intentions to stop carrying the weight and we are finally told what was what with each family member, it came off for me as way anti-climactic. When a likeable lead is a really good person who has sacrificed themselves for others, its good to get that build up over righteous indignation on their behalf. We as readers are denied that with this novel. I ended up kind of shrugging and saying "Oh, that was the deal." LOL Rhapsody's relationship with the ever present bitchy sister was much the same way. Chick was beyond bitchy with her and it evidently REALLY affected Rhapsody, but we really didn't understand the why of it until almost the end when things start magically coming together. By then I didn't care since all I'd seen was Rhapsody kind of taking it even though her attitude was at odds with the way she handled most other things in life.
Another con- while I liked that he never waivered, I do think the consequences were glossed over. A few blurbs about whispers and how he was treated by his fellow priests but really we aren't made to feel the WEIGHT or the blowback. Which was both nice and kinda sucky in that it was obvious going into he knew what to expect and we never got to see him handle it.
So ya, overall a good read. I'd recommend it even if I can't say I wouldn't change some things to suit myself personally. For me, that's damn near high praise
I started listening to this book (Kindle Fire) on my drive from Atlanta back to NC and was riveted to the story. I'm not Catholic so the details about the religion captivated me. The love story was awesome. Well done!
This was a really beautiful and original love story. It started off a bit slow (before the characters met up) but once it got going I couldn't put it down. I'd recommend it.
I like bed this book and reading it from Dean's point of view. Made it relatable. Dean is compassionate and oh so alpha and showed an humanistic story side to priest and a deeper understanding of how things in life change. He loved being a priest, but he knew on a deeper level that something was missing and that something was the love of a good woman. I what he found with Rhapsody was something unique, irreplaceable and indescribable. The letter from his best friend Josh was heartfelt and I cried right along with him. This was another amazing read by Ms. Lavern. I believe that there are people out there like Fr. Fitzpatrick who give up another chance at love for duty, and I believe there people like Dean who take a chance and grasp the opportunity that are placed into their path. Not everyone is meant to live this life or make this journey alone. This story to me was about choices, Fr Fitzpatrick, himself in Dean and struggled with with Dean's choice to live the priesthood not because of what Dean had done but because of what he did not have the courage to do. Dean journey and self discovery throughout this book took a toll on him, it's hard trying to be everything to everyone and not be true to yourself. I glad that he found happiness that he had been searching for with Rhapsody.
This was a decent read. It was a very slow start, and I truly never got into the book until half-way through, literally. Well, maybe 40%. I understand that Ms. Laveen wanted to build up the story and characters, but it just took a long time to get there. We knew that each character had issues and secrets, but it took a long time to expose any of them, but she always mentioned them. Up until I got to around 30% of the book, I could only read a page or 2 at a time because it just wasn't interesting. The main characters didn't even connect until the 30%, hence that is when things started getting interesting. The premise was very good. I give Ms. Laveen an A for originality, that's for sure, but I think that in us trying to get to know Dane and Rhapsody as individuals I lost interest due to too much backdrop first, and not enough story of them together.
I liked how Dane and Rhapsody's relationship developed once it got started. They were 2 people who needed something that they weren't able to find in others. Dane was a priest who listened to other people's stories and secrets, but after his best friend died, he had no one listen to his story. Rhapsody is a free-spirited woman who took life as it came, but had a horrible taste in men since she always chose ones that were emotionally unavailable. They came to each other to be one a others support system, and from that something stronger developed. I truly liked how their relationship developed. ****************spoiler*******************I didn't like the way he ended his career as a priest. I think he should have had all his affairs in order first, and left the priesthood before his relationship with Rhapsody had gone any further. I felt that Dane and Rhapsody's love was tainted a little bit. Either he or her should have had more self-control and respected his position until after he stepped down. They didn't have to get married first, but I expected more from their love for one another. I loved the wedding and the reconciliations. I just wish that all the secrets didn't come out in one scene, but through the course of the book. I think it would have helped to keep me more focused.
I've had this book for a while and I wasn't sure if I was ready for it. I'm not Catholic so that wasn't an issue. Even if I were, I know things like this happen and every story is different. But I knew reading it would make me cry; and I was right. I love Tiana's writing style because she goes deep with the characters and they come alive. I found myself feeling Dane's pain when he found out his best friend Josh was dying! I could feel his struggle to not go over the edge of no return. Rhapsody had her own struggle and just like Dean, she had nobody to confide in. Her volatile relationship with her sister didn't help. She had her mother but the love of a sister is a special bond that would've helped her get past her self doubt about her love life. Dean and Rhapsody both had demons that kept them hostage to a life they thought was hopeless. God answered their prayers when the time was right. They found love in the mist of the storm of self doubt and obligation. Like Josh said, "Just because you're good at something doesn't mean it's your calling!".
Awesome book...just what you would want in a love story. When you can visualize everything happening like you are watching a movie you know it's a great book!
DNF. Do not know if I will continue this book. The subject matter was not an issue. The pacing was off and the writing didn't connect with me. Maybe I'll try again at a later time.
4.00 Stars. (BW/WM). Amazon non-audio purchase. Forbidden romance. The story reveals that the hero, Dane Caruso, entered the priesthood as a means of escaping the weight of harboring the secrets and dysfunctional behavior of friends and family. Dane was a popular high school athlete with a study girlfriend; but by his 2nd or 3rd year of college at age of 21, he had become a womanizing 'bad boy' dabbling in drugs and alcohol who was being overcome by guilt , depression and alcoholism. The heroine, Rhapsody Thomason/ Blue had pursued a career in music from her youth, like Dane, there were elements of dysfunction in her family...her mother spent a lot of time apart from Rhapsody and her sister to pursue a singing career and Rhapsody and her sister's relationship became adversarial because of jealousness. The author did a great job of developing the events that lead to the romantic involvement of Dane and Rhapsody...to start, we learn that they were school mates separated by three years and although they didn't have a lot of interaction, they were attracted to each other back then. The storyline moved slowly because the author tried to give Father Dane and Rhapsody the appearance of maintaining a reverent and respectful attitude for the Church and the Priesthood and claiming their love as a means following the dictates of their faith in their creator and each other and all that was good and didn't sully the story; but all the attention given to other characters did drag the telling to earn laborious reading proportions. Good story.
Everything he does he does it well, he is not a “ Haftasser” kind of guy & he loved the same way weather is the Church, and All that it’s involved,…his family, his friendship with Josh and his love for Raspsody . He loved with all his being and gave his all, it’s no wonder that he was so “successful” as a Priest and everyone is his family came to him with all their heavy baggage….& the weight of it all drove him the bottle and even that he still managed to control and still functioning. It’s hard for me to review this book properly, first the book is so goooood and packed so much… needless to say I won’t do it justice. So let me just say, it’s an amazing read, whatever your denomination or whatever your beliefs… you will enjoy it. Dane, a man of integrity was wise beyond his age, I would say he was gifted ,and God’s chosen him as a Priest for a season and his abilities to help others can be extended beyond priesthood & The Lord blessed him with his beautiful Angel in the name of Raspsody who happened to be someone he had his eyes on as a teenager but never had the courage to speak to… wow! And that girl is truly gifted with a voice of an Angel and her and à piano is One. They are quite a pair and she had a crush on him as well as a teenager. Isn’t God awesome! I absolutely love the book and the characters are WONDERFUL!
This book was AMAZING!!! DANE & RHAPSODY were two beautiful characters with whom you couldn't help but fall in love. Their love was pure. They didn't just jump into bed, their feeling grew and evolved in a passionate loving relationship. Their chemistry was electric.
MS Laveen has a way of drawing you into her books and the characters, to the point you forget you are reading a fictional book. She has a way of making you want to befriend with the couple. I love her imagery and decriptive many that allows you be in the scene with the characters. This the 20th book, I've read from her and I am always in awe with the manner she writes and develops her characters. She has yet to disappoint me.
Dane and Rhapsody had me entrenched in this book. When Dane and Rhapsody acknowledged each other in Mies Park, I was hooked. I figured that forming a relationship would be nearly impossible for them. But as they spend time as friends, they realize they wanted more. They had gone through so much with their families. Dane kept the family secrets and his best friend Josh Is ill. Rhapsody and her sister had problems. Oh yeah, Dane is a Priest. Please purchase this book to see what happens. My emotions were all over the place. I cried, laughed and cheered them on through the entire book. Thank you Tiana Laveen for sharing this outstanding story!!❤️🥰
I liked the dual POV. I also appreciated that the story wasn’t rushed. The H/h each had something to work through and it was refreshing that it took time before they were intimate. Well done. I will most likely read this one again.
I'm having the most difficult time putting into words how much the story moved me... Admittedly I passed this story over quite few times because the beginning read in the sample didn't "grab me". Then I saw another review that said it picks up so I gave it a chance and boy I'm glad I did. The emotional turmoil that Dane went through within himself and what he wants out of life-I shamelessly fell in love with a priest.. and fell deeply in love with him once he made his decision and was at peace with himself. Tianna Knows how to write THE PERFECT "HERO". And once he gave himself the green light to just love and be in love with Rhapsody .. my gawd it was on point!!! This is the second novel I've read of the author's. The internal dialogue is aplenty. It seems as if the story's dragging at some points, but once the conflicts start showing up every sentence mattered. And although you have to get to 70% of the story until the characters consummate their relationship, the wait was well worth it. They were friends first.. Truly friends first!!! It was a great simmering with issues peppered through where it made sense not to get instant gratification. The man was a priest after all. I loved how Tianna took the reader through the journey of his decisions. it was all credible. he was so real. Rhapsody was also real. It was as if They were my neighbors. He wasn't a saint , or perfect before he was called to the priesthood. I didn't expect him to be any different when he made his decisions there after. His core Catholic beliefs were still there he was just letting nature take its course and I never got the feeling that what he was doing was wrong. How could I? the rationale to do otherwise would be cruel as evidenced by Fr. Kirkpatrick's admission. The secondary characters were just as appealing and interesting as they play a big part in Dane's and Rhapsody's life and decisions. And my goodness that scene with Josh's letter.. even if I was the coldest B!tch around I couldn't have read that and not bawl my eyes out. No matter what your religious belief , this story has at the heart of it the theme of being in love and the decision that two people ultimately made to welcome it into their lives.
One of my favorite books. They found love in the strangest place and they were just what the other person needed. Read this book years ago and till today I’m yet to find a book that touches me the same way
This story is one that could appear to be controversial but for me I found it to be a great way to show love prevailing. I absolutely loved Dane. And this story takes you on a journey of love so sweet. There were so many things covered in this story that I think the author laid out so well. Second chance at love for some, forgiveness, and restoration. This is a must read and definitely one for my reread pile.
Great book! Worth the price. This is not your Alpha hard nosed billionaire fluff. Dane's turmoil was so thoroughly described, you felt his internal battle. Living ones life because of the expectations of others is stressful and difficult. The first half of the book deals with Dane accepting what he knew in his heart. He loved his family and his church but he wanted more. Once he has made up his mind it's full speed ahead. The heat comes off the pages. Dane and Rhapsody are soul mates. Loved their story. I will reread this book.
This book is amazing. Why should a priest be denied to love? God did not intend for us not to love and be in love. He is love. Dane just wanted more in life than the life of a priest. He deserves to be happy with God in his life and the true gift of love God sent to him-Rhapsody.
This book was beautifully written ..classy ..well done ..it drew me in and really took me on a journey with these characters ...the struggle could be felt ..I loved how things were explained ..I feel like author really done her homework ...If you are looking for an elegant tasteful "Priest" book ..this is it!! Very happy I read it...Recommended Read!
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. I loved, LOVED this story. I don't have enough words to describe what I was feeling while reading it. This story is original and beautifully written. Ms Laveen really showed her talent in this book. A must read for you true romance readers.
A-MAZE-ING!! This book did not disappoint and it kept my attention from beginning to end. I really enjoyed the characters and especially the message behind the story seeing as it is so controversial and relevant to this day and time.
Aside from the longwindedness [which is par for the course with Laveen] and the cutesy-neatly-wrapped-up-in-a-bow-sugary ending, I really, really, really loved this book. I felt like I got to really know these characters and enjoyed 'watching' them get to slowly know each other.
This was one of the best stories I've had the pleasure of reading this year. The love Dane and Rhapsody had for each other was fantastic. Thank you Ms. Laveen for an excellent read.
while i did enjoy the book man did it take a long time to get there. i like that it was important to him that he made sure things were talked through and worked on
